I told them I was leaving soon for a vacation and just wanted a nice refresh, but they decided to take my money and fill my face with open wounds, some of which are now growing with infected puss. A solid 4.5 out of 5 I booked a last minute appointment to get a facial and eyebrow wax at Janina's. She accommodated my next day request, thanks to some cancelations,which was greatly appreciated. The facial was one of the most professional ones I've ever received. She was soft-handed but thorough. I was worried as she didn't ask me much about my skin regimen/habits/tendencies, but I guess my face told her everything she needed to know. She took the time to educate me about hydration and the difference between my freckles and my skin tags. And she was very friendly overall. If it weren't for a couple things, I'd have given her a 5/5. Mainly she left me unattended twice, once for the steam and later when my mask was drying (15mins at a time). Both felt great but I would have preferred her presence or check-ins. That time could also be an opportunity to work in some other bonus, like a quick hand massage. Plus the steam felt localized, it didn't get my whole face, maybe she could have been more mindful of that since it was so important for opening my pores. I felt the difference when she was working on blackheads where the steam hadn't hit my face (ouuuch). Apart from these really picky exigences, it was a perfect treatment. I'll definitely be back. The shoulder/neck massage at the end is a personal touch, a really nice treat (better than some RMTs). I RECOMMEND: the facial. Wax was ok but the facial was amazing and a great value. EXTRA TIP: Honour your appointment. Janina and staff run a tight shift, scheduling wise, so no-shows and tardiness are not the best way to start off things with what could be your new favourite aesthetician. read more

I went here last year & saw Janice, who is no longer working here. Janice's energy was very soothing and her massage was incredible, so I thought I'd return. I was told she doesn't work there but figured that her expertise had to do with training, so I went ahead and booked with someone else. I was chastised 3 times for various things with a sentence ending in "Girl." I received zero neck/shoulder massage. I felt a long of burning when she out the masque on but thought since she hadn't described a single thing she was applying the whole time that it was normal. My face was so inflamed when I left I wanted to put a bag in my head & the other assistant was just gawking at me. She also brought two women in the room to get supplies or something while I had the masque in and eyes covered speaking to each other in Polish, which made me feel like my comfort didn't matter. I began going to Janina back in 1997. She is a true beauty professional. She knows skin like no other. I had veered away from Janina and her products for about a year or two because I started to experiment with big name drug store products out of convenience (especially while I was traveling). My face began to break out really badly. My chin was covered in white heads and zits. I would have to wear SO much make to try and hide it. I was really starting to feel down on myself. I went to the doctor and gave me some cream and offered pills. There was no way I was going to take pills for acne! I refused to believe this. I went back to Janina for a facial and started using her products again and my face completely cleared. It's a miracle. I keep going for facials once a month. I gave Janina another chance for a facial a couple of months ago and now I am hooked. She is, indeed, my esthetician of choice. Already came back a couple of times, with good results, and now I signed up for her microdermabrasion sessions. She needs time to work on your face, and will do it properly if you arrive on time, and don't tell her to hurry (reasonable, huh?). Allow 60-90min for a great, relaxing and renewing work. Winter is TERRIBLE for my skin, it becomes very dehydrated, and I have a few breakouts, it's hard to find a balance, so it's important to me to do facials so I don't look horrible. Her prices are unbeatable, the only problem is booking - think about at least two weeks in advance if you want a Saturday. read more

If you are looking for a thorough and knowledgeable esthetician, Janina offers one of the best facials around! She doesn't cut corners and focuses on the cleaning and healing of your skin. I found her very helpful and my skin has improved greatly after a few months of treatment. Not that my skin was horrible, but I feel the difference! Also, her prices are very reasonable and she offers skincare products that are better quality and less expensive than the fancy-mass-marketed-consumer-over-the-counter junk. So this review is a few years late; I can't recommend this place and Janina enough. She helped get my life back. I broke out in acne which were hormonal, along the jaw line, deep deep big ones, that were painful and then spread to my cheeks, forehead, neck, lower neck...this affected my social life, which I had none, never left the house, my job, my dating life, everything at the time. i saw doctors, dermatologies, and wanted to put me on medication and more creams, and in the end, after calling around from laser centers, researching acne medication side effects, birth control options, creams, researching spas in the area, and questions their experience and knowledge, I finally picked Janina's. If you are looking for a fancy expensive exterior and interior, but shit inexperienced, and expensive service who most likely will end up making your acne worse, then go somewhere else. Don't let the look of the place fool you. It's clean, professional, and they know what they are doing. I saw Janina and she basically helped me get my confidence back. Been on an exhausting hunt to find a place to get a great facial where you aren't paying for the location/decor & where you aren't pummelled with selling while trying to relax and enjoy. Finally found it here. Janina was gracious and welcoming, even though I showed up an hour early, my mistake. Felt immediately like my business was appreciated. I was paired with one of her newer employees who did a wonderful job but with a guided oversee by Janina which shows a great deal of care and attention on her part. She patted my hand and told me a joke. It was a really pleasant experience. I was upsold on a moisturizing treatment but she was right, I needed it and it wasn't done in an aggressive way but more a recommendation. Saw a huge difference in my face, especially the yucky frown line in between my eyebrows. I now trust her recommendations and will be open to hear about her products in the future. Because she is charging a reasonable price for her services I will go more often rather than treating a facial like a luxury. You would think spa owners would understand that. It's not a luxury environment so if that's your thing, probably not the place for you. I'm okay with a few less leather couches and water features to get a quality experience. I got the following done at Janina's: underarm upper lip full leg brazilian underarm: no problem upper lip: she only did the two sides, very quickly and didn't even look to see if there was anything left (there was). full leg most painful leg wax I've ever have. The person working uses wax strips that are far too long, so as a result the ripping & tearing feeling is greatly increased. There was a lot of wax leftover on my legs and when I came home and took off my jeans, there was dark, sticky stuff all over my legs! I've had leg waxes at other salons before and have never had this problem. brazilian: again, most painful brazilian I've ever had. Her strips are far too long and her technique is not very good. I had an extremely pricey oxygen facial for over 150 dollars, it took less then 20 min. By the time I had gotten undressed and lay down, it was over. I was shocked by the less than stellar time she took to look at my skin, evaluate what my skin needed and I saw zero results. I get better results at Dove spa with their standard facial. Stay away from this place for any Fancy so called facials. Total bust and no care taken. Should not have left the 10 dollar tip. I called Janina on a Wednesday hoping to get a Saturday facial appointment despite all the reviews saying a Saturday had to be booked weeks in advance... She tried to schedule me another day but when I told her I was leaving on vacation she fit me in but told me she would have to leave me at various times throughout the facial. She did have to leave me several times but the appointment was still very relaxing and very thorough. My skin looked really good right after (even with her major extractions..she sees everything!!!!) but my skin continued to improve over the next few days too. Janina knows skin and her personality is very warm as well, I felt very comfortable immediately. I was really impressed and pleasantly surprised about the lack of 'hard sell' of skin care products. I can see why her reviews are all so wonderful and although yet another one might only increase my wait time for her, she deserves another great review.
