I went to Lux to give them a try. I am very picky when it comes to the shape of my nails and not all nail tech's have the skill to do a proper "soft square" shape. That being said, I had Mia do my nails. I had a "bio gel fill" and "shellac polish" done. Mia was very accommodating, she asked me what I wanted done, and she showed me all the books of nail colors. Her work was very gentle, efficient and precise. She shaped my nails exactly how I told her and I was very pleased when she was done. From start to finish it was a very enjoyable experience. Broke a nail while I was at work so I started looking to see what was in the area that could be good. Lets be real nail salons are a hit and miss these days. However with the great reviews I was reading on this place I wanted to check it out. Can I just say you definitely need to be patient when going to this location. The parking lot is crazy small.. I was lucky enough to wait a few minutes and get a spot! I walked in (with a thought of being turned down because they were busy *side note yes I had a back up plan) and asked for a refill. The manager just kinda looked at me and then looked through his books and I was fortunate enough, he said I could have a seat (reluctantly). The establishment is small , to me everything just seems really cramped in one. There were a lot of client service staff to accommodate every seat in that place which was really good. I had a woman (she was blonde) and didn't introduce herself. However the work she did with my nails was beautiful. she was extremely precise which I thoroughly enjoy. I chose the colour that she was wearing because I couldn't spot it out in the selection. Bio-Gel Refill - $40 cash ($45 if you use card) Mr. Manager asked me if it was my first time and i replied yes, he then informed me to next time make an appointment because they are an appointment only nail salon. Which is fine if I lived near here and this was my nail salon. However I have a nail salon but I just did not want to head up then back down for what I needed to do. I would not go back to Lux Nail Bar. Actually it was quite a bad experience and it's only been 5 days since my shellac manicure and my thumb is already cracked. Shows they didn't apply it correctly. Even on the first day, I could see it was uneven - she didn't take any care to do it properly. I got a pedicure and after it got messed up because she hit my foot, she put another coat of polish and no clear polish and said it would be ok. I'm quite picky with my nails but Katie did them perfectly, didn't thin out my nails before applying the gel and picked out a colour she knew I'd like. She's also super quick but very thorough, it took under 45mins!! The salon is super busy, make sure to call and make an appointment. There's TVs to watch while your getting your nails done and it's very clean. The front desk people are also super friendly. Can't wait to go back for my refill! This time it was a woman who managed the appointments and answered phones, extremely rude attitude over the phone. When I called to make the appointment I tried to ask to have a very skilled technician who does a good job on cuticles. Instead she interrupts me and says "I'm busy no time for this just come to the appointment" this should have been my clue not to bother going and yet I went. Kim did my manicure,not sure the other girls name for pedicure. Kim's manicure ended up being the worst I have ever had in the last 20 years. I have tried telling her to do thorough cleanup of my cuticles. She just looked at me, ignored; and proceeded to do her work. When she finished one hand I looked at it and asked she do one more pass at it because cuticles and dry skin was still very much there. She attempted to do it even though she said "where? I don't see it". After a few attempts I just gave up. I'm attaching the picture of my manicure. It's just 1 hour old. I can do a better job myself. Throughout the appointment the nail technicians kept talking amongst themselves, including with the manager, in their own language. Non-stop. Talking and laughing. This is not acceptable in a place where customers do not speak their language. But I would even overlook this if the quality of work was good. I'm soooo disappointed I would never come back. This used to be my hidden gem. The cost today was $38 and I left $40. When I was leaving and paying I could not even make myself leave a tip because of how bad the service was. And I'm usually a very generous tipper. I was not asked, when settling the bill, if I liked the services. Instead the lady shouted (and I mean shouted) to the workers something in her language which had an English phrase of "two dollars", probably complaining to her stuff of the low tip... The lady that owns this place has extremely poor customer service skills. I asked her a question to explain why she was charging almost full price for a refill and 8 dollars more for a mani and pedi shellac and she showed a very poor attitude, raised her voice and got extremely defensive. I used to go to this place regularly because I felt that I was paying a reasonable price for the quality of service, however that is certainly no longer the case. For starters, she needs a major lesson on customer service. When I initially asked the question she threw the price card in front of me without explanation and walked away. When I told her I didn't appreciate that she started getting extremely defensive and loud. They are no longer clean as I see they resue the same equipments on multiple customers without sterlizing it. They created a hole on my friends nail as they accidently sanded a part of her nail off. The lady inflates the price according to her liking without proper explanation. She charges a much higher price than her son who used to run the place when I started going here. For the price I paid, I would rather go elsewhere and get top quality service. I was excited to see such a well-rated nail salon so close to my place but was sorely disappointed after I went in for a full set of bio gel. This isn't about the tech's language skills because I would hate to fault anyone for that, but it was so incredibly frustrating that she made no effort at all to listen to my requests and continued to interupt me as she pretended to understand what I said. At one point she stepped out of the salon to bring over someone to translate but they only exchanged a few words and when he left I realized she had still thought I was trying to trim the sides of my nail when I had actually asked to smooth out the lumps on the side of my nail bed... I told them that I really wanted my nails to look nice because I was having my engagement photos done that weekend. He kept telling me they will look nicer after I refill them, which obviously doesn't help me... At the end, I found it futile to try and make improvements because she just kept huffing and puffing any time I spoke. I let her finish up and she skipped a bunch of standard services like hand cream and removing the extra polish on the underside of my nail which was sticking on my skin. Even though they change wooden sticks after each time it contacts with my skin, maybe it's the way the paper is peeled away, left me with bad bumps and rashes. I honestly love this place! Felt welcomed the moment I walked in. Got a French pedicure and a half leg wax. It was my first ever time getting my legs waxed but the lady talked me through it and even cracked in some jokes making me feel 100x more comfortable about the whole experience! The pedicure was nice and relaxing with the added bonus of these huge comfy massage chairs. My nail technician was super nice and really looked like she knew what she was doing! Pros Hundreds of colours to choose from, customers mainly choose from the 4 binders. Fast service, can feel a bit rushed at times. Equipment is individually sterilized and opened from a package which is something that you should be looking for in a nail salon. Cons The technicians don't have nametags and are talking in viet, I guess it's a part of the nail bar experience. Walk-ins rarely accommodated, 95% of customers make an appointment. I recently started working down the street from this place. Due to my work schedule, it's difficult for me to drive to my usual place in Mississauga to get my nails done. I needed a simple service-- to get my shellac colour changed (no manicure). I called that morning, and specifically asked the man who answered the phone how long it would take-- he said 15-20 mins. That seemed more than enough time during my hour lunch. I figured it might take a few minutes for the technician to get settled in and I should be out in 30 mins tops. When I got there, I was shown to a chair and made to wait 10 minutes until the technician came. After she finally showed up, she wrapped my fingers in tin foil and acetone, to peel off the current shellac. I've been getting shellac manicures for a year, and I know 100% that it takes 5 minutes at the absolute maximum to get it all off. This technician told me she was going to take "a quick lunch break" DURING MY SERVICE!! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. But sure enough, over 10 minutes passed until she came back and then began. My appointment was at 1:30 and she didn't start on my nails until 1:50. I go to this Lux Nail Bar location regularly to have manicures and pedicures done. I usually call ahead when I'm 20 minutes away and they've always accommodated me. I've never requested for a specific manicurist and I'm always satisfied with the results. Their gel manicures and pedicures easily last two weeks for me. The manicurists are friendly and I enjoy watching whatever they have playing on Netflix while they're working. I don't mind that they don't have their prices clearly listed anywhere because the prices they've charged me have always been reasonable. However, I can understand why that may be frustrating for others. Lux Nail Bar will continue to be my regular nail salon because the location is convenient for me and they're flexible with their bookings. read more

Nails are uneven, poorly painted, sloppy, catching on things as they are not filed well, no oil on my cuticles, cuticles weren't even cut well as there is still so many, they will for sure peel within a few days and she slopped this together in 36 mins . Had to peel all the top coat off of my skin and file them down at home to try and preserve them for at least a week. Will not be returning. This is my new fav nail salon. Not only is it close by to me but the price is extremely reasonable. For a wax that I usually get it only costs me 30 compared to places I've been which is 60. The price is so reasonable and it's very clean and the ladies are superb there. Very gentle and tentative. For a shellac manicure, they make sure the shellac is close to the cuticles as possible and no missed spots. I hate when places leave a gap between the cuticles and Polish. I also find that my shellac manicure and pedicure last longer than the place i used to go to, not sure if it's different product or technique. Also, they have been perfect shaping my nails. Some places that I've been to don't shape them equally or I'm unhappy bout one. But it's been pretty even so far. Even for my pedicure. They already have a wide selection of shellac colours but everytime I come they add more and more. I've only been a few times and already the staff know me. Makes me feel very welcomed. This will for sure be my go to nail salon now. Parking is really tight here tho. I would suggest you go early. read more

The nail bar opened less than 2 years ago. I had a manicure and pedicure for $35 before tax and the service was phenomenal. The nail bar is small and narrow, but it was nicely renovated and looked clean and professional. I have been to many nail salons offering the same prices, but this nail bar takes their time to buff my feet, message them and lotion them. I asked the staff which brand of nail polish lasted the longest (I don't remember the brand right now), but it lasted me weeks longer than my previous nail polish, when I got it done at a different salon. This Was my favorite place. I went last week again to give them another chance after the last four or five times of being unhappy with the experience. Last week the manager said she had to put me in the book 15 minutes before I could arrive but said I could arrive anytime for my shellac mani and regular pedicure. When I got there at the time I originally wanted she said I had to wait for about 15 minutes - I left one and a half hours later after the manager half did the shellac removal even though she's not experienced, half assisted by one of the technician who when I asked if it was okay to remove the shellac so quickly left in a huff and told the manager I had refused to let her help me. Then the third person came and she finished the color upon which I realized she hadn't cleaned my cuticles or done the full service I had originally booked. She told me the manager had told her I only wanted my nail color changed - definitely not. I checked with the manager as I was paying to find out why she had said I only wanted nail color changed and she pointed to someone else's name in the book. Not me. They didn't have the staff to do my pedicure either. When I asked why I wasn't told to not come or not wait instead of being there for an hour and a half the manager said it wasn't true that I had been waiting that long. ‍ one week later - two nails have chipped. Tony your management skills are incredibly missed here. This manager is always angry shouting and doesn't portray the calm you need at this spa like location. Another three clients were turned away during this time even though they had appointments and arrived on time!!! read more

So the time came to walk around the neighbourhood and see what my options were. And there were a few. Most of them were just OK. And then, I discovered Lux - on Sheppard, just past Bayview, in an unassuming little plaza - and I'm so glad I did. Tony runs the place, and he is definitely a big reason I keep on coming back. He not only knows everything about the salon (like ALL the colours he has on hand), but he remembers returning customers AND their favourite colours, and styles. AND the man helps out where he can, whenever possible, everything from removing polish to doing touch-ups, all in addition to making appointments and taking payments. I have been happy with every service I've received here. My nails are always beautiful, and my eyebrows always done to perfection. Just left there. The owner is rude. Does over charge. Loves to argue. I told her to keep her voice down. That what I paid before for the same service is what not she's charging me. The place is dirty. Had to tell them to clean off the chairs and arm rest. So many flies in there. I suspect from the glass at the sink with a spoon and some leftover drink and their nasty garbage can. Was not putting my foot on that. Had my pedi done three times to fix the same jagged bad nail polish job. Told her I would go home and file it myself. To think she was asking me what do I think. Each time I told her fix it. One should never have to ask. She has eyes to see it's not right. Also, I told the nail technician to not clip away my cuticles. She did anyway and now the pointer is sore and they look awful. She tells me to use oil at night. Which I do anyway when I had cuticles. I should of just been firm with her. But that's not me. I still can't believe her response, the Owner, when I told her as I was waiting while my nail dried that s senior was at the door. She say, I know as she proceeded to argue with one of her technicians. Left her standing there for another technician to greet her. The owner is extremely rude very unprofessional.
