This is such a lovely, hidden gem in the Oakhurst neighborhood. We've been previously for regular dinner and drinks but finally were able to attend one of their Weird Wine Wednesday events. For $50 you get 4 wines and 3 small plates plus information about both. The pairings were excellent and the food was incredible. We ended up ordering the truffle fries and dilly dilly chicken off the menu after the tasting just to round out the meal. I've never had anything bad here and the service is always excellent. A snazzy little place with more than just a cool name. My wife and I visited The Teal Turnip on a date night and it was the perfect, intimate experience. A smaller restaurant with a big punch and a fun menu. We had reservations so we were quickly seated upon arrival and waters were made ready immediately after seating. We were super hungry so we ordered an appetizer of I Yam What I Yam ( a sweet potato bruschetta with lemon mascarpone) which was amazing and definitely not something you can find anywhere. For my main I chose the Cobia with pesto and gigante beans. I love the amount of flavor with this dish and I love even more that they had Cobia (not a very common fish found in restaurants). The fish was perfectly cooked and again, the pesto exploded with flavor. I wish would have saved room for dessert but after these amazing dishes we were stuffed. Second time here and this place just can't do any wrong in my eyes. Tried a different dish and dessert this time and was not disappointed. Everything from the atmosphere to the food to the awesome customer service, seriously this place knows how to do it. I had the bougie burger with the truffle fries and lavender lemonade. Those fries were crispy perfection, the burger was flavorful and juicy. I didn't plan on getting dessert but I heard the waiter telling the next table abt the menu and a crowd fave is the lava cake. So had to try, and let me just say I saw the Gods and heaven at first bite lol. They make them to order, no frozen microwaved nonsense here. It took abt 12min for them to prepare and it was so worth the wait. Warm, buttery, gooey deliciousness was presented to me and I literally was in love at first bite. My partner and I visited Teal Turnip as a date night. They are located in a shopping center so there is a parking lot. The restaurant itself has a large kitchen area (I believe they do a lot of catering) with about 10 tables and a bar. The restaurant itself is seasonal and so they change their menu multiple times throughout the year. Every dish we ordered was amazing! Each dish was well seasoned with creative favor combinations. We ordered several small dishes because we wanted to order so many things. Our server was also very knowledgeable about the menu and friendly throughout service. I really wanted to love this place, especially as a small, women-owned business, but I'm honestly baffled by the 4.5+ star rating. The food was just okay and definitely didn't match the price point. The lamb was overcooked, the meatballs were dry, and the crab dip was a lemon bomb. One of the most surprising letdowns was the $7 "table bread," which turned out to be a single dinner roll that reminded me of Outback's brown bread... And the $20 smoked old fashioned came with a clementine wedge, which absolutely doesn't belong in a cocktail. I appreciate the concept, and the service was fine, but overall, the Teal Turnip was a major miss for me. I was in Charlotte visiting my mom over Easter and she mentioned this small plates restaurant near her home in oakhurst. We arrived around 2 pm and there were a couple other people, but the restaurant was quiet. It was really beautifully decorated, with an open kitchen, nice bar, and quality chairs and furnishings. I was a little concerned by the "small plates" mentioned and the prices were pretty low. We started with parm truffle fries that were phenomenal! I'm so used to eating frozen then fried fries at restaurants that these were next level! We couldn't put our finger on the flavors in the dipping sauce but it was nice! While we were reviewing the menu my mom and I both got lemonade. She got the basil and I got the lavender. They were both great! For our entrees my mom got the beet salad with blackened chicken, and I got the million dollar burger, with a side salad. The complexity of the flavors was incredible. The portions are really big and honestly I took 1/2 my burger and entire salad back. My mom also took 1/2 her salad home. The total bill, including drinks, the fries, my upcharge side salad, and our entrees was only $40! I couldn't believe it. The quality was amazing. Highly recommend this spot! read more

We got there a little on the later side and told that there was no rush and to enjoy our meal. That's exactly what we did. We started with the Mod Tom. Not your typical charcuterie board, this had pickled peach and a basil cremeaux. Mouth wateringly delicious. For my entree, I chose the You're a Cute-cumber and there were protein options for chicken or salmon. Another entree had U10 prawns so I asked if I could add those instead. The chef came out to discuss the prawns, how many I wanted, and did let me know the price. U10 prawns aren't your typical shrimp. They were fantastic and I'm glad I made the choice. How lucky we are to have this absolute gem in our part of Charlotte! I think Kai was my waitress/ bartender, and she looked out for me the whole time, hinting at the incoming crowd that may delay my takeout order (without rushing me!) So pleased to see this place bustling and keeping that quality through the roof. Pretty strict on no kids, bummer if you got a good one, but there's not a ton of room or kiddie menu so probably the right call. We had a lovely time at The Teal Turnip this evening. The staff was very welcoming and inviting as well as knowledgeable about every detail of the menu which is appreciated! They were having a private event tonight so the restaurant was set up a little differently than usual. The menu was so unique as they update it seasonally and source food from local farmers - big plus. The cocktails were delish and they have a sommelier on staff so the wine list was awesome - AND had the sommelier's tasting notes. Their focus is small plates so we tried 4 - the Gourdeous was amazing and our favorite, the brisket meatballs were delish (on the sweeter side), duck was very well prepared and blue cheese polenta was lovely, and the scallops were ok but not our favorite - needed a bit more seasoning. Finished with the red velvet brownie which would typically be too sweet for me but it had the perfect balance. The menu pictured will only be there for another 2 weeks or so before they flip to their full fall menu. I was very happy with my meal and gal pal had their goat burrata tacos and they looked amazing! The menu is the winter lunch menu right now if you look them up online. My trip here was way too long overdue, considering I can walk here from home. I just cannot say enough good things about our experience here. We got a reservation, which I recommend since it is a smaller, intimate restaurant with limited seating. They allow for walk-ins, but based on availability. There's also bar seating. We were seated immediately and got to explore the craft cocktail and very extensive wine menu to order one almost immediately. We ordered off of their fall menu, which runs until early January, so hurry there if you're wanting it! Now let's get on to the good stuff. My boyfriend ordered a Teal Turnip cocktail, which is a beautiful purple color due to the empress gin, the taste was a refreshing citrusy flavor. I ordered a dirty vodka martini because I am a sucker for fresh blue cheese stuffed castelvetrano olives. It was delicious! Our waitress suggested we start with the gourdgeous, and boy did she steer us in the right direction. This might be the absolute best take on bruschetta I've ever had. I'm planning to come back for it before they change the menu. We also ordered the fish and greens and the white bean hummus and tomato Vinny had amazing flavor. Decided to brave the wet weather and try out The Teal Turnip. I have been wanting to try them out since they had their soft open. The changing menu, SMALL PLATES, and varied food options is what drew my attention. Definitely not a basic vibe which is a nice change for Charlotte dining. This a a quaint intimate space and it may be best to reserve a table to ensure seating upon arrival. Cute date lunch/night option. We ordered the Truffle Fries and Cahones Brisket Meatballs for sharable starters. Both were tasty. I do feel the fries were too crispy stiff to truly absorb the truffle essence. The truffle dip for the fries was full flavor and the maple bourbon bbq sauce that married the meatballs, didn't disappoint. For cocktails we tried the Pomegranate Margarita and a freestyle cocktail called French 75 which was a Lemon Drop- esque drink made with gin and champagne to complement. For our main course small plates we topped off with Rodney's Fish which is the Catch of the day fish, Grouper surrounded by greens, lentils, and a tomato style chutney. Braise the Roof short rib with pasta was our other choice. Both dishes presented well and were delicious. Let me start by saying the 1 star has to do with the food and not the staff. Our server took our order but after that she never approached our table again. The other FOH staff took care of us for the balance of the evening and they were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Party of 6 on a Saturday night. 1st the food was overly salty. Beef Cheeks and Mac and Cheese appetizers. 2 people ordered the lamb med rare. Came of well done, hard and inedible. 3 people had the pork schnitzel. Over fried to the point of being pork jerky. We wound up sending a lot of food back which the restaurant did take off the bill but after such a horrible experience the entire bill should have been comped. We also ordered 2 bottles of wine but only received 1 of them. Their website states that they are woman owned so it would have been nice to see the owner or a manager at some point. But I didn't think they had either there. The restaurant business is hard on a good day so if they want to survive then they better get their sh*t together. I admire them for opening in a area not know for upscale dining but you have to be able to deliver. The only thing they successfully delivered was the check! read more

I went in for a solo dinner and drink on a Saturday night just after prime dinnertime. The menu was really impressive so I was excited to try some things. The food did not disappoint! The main thing I was looking forward to was called the Mod Tom, and it consisted of burrata, tomatoes, and pickled peaches. The flavors were bright and fresh, the dish was perfectly seasoned, and the presentation was lovely. I then tried the bread, which was Brazilian pão de queijo inspired (the menu called them popovers). It definitely nailed the flavor of pão de queijo while still being unique. The dessert was a take on carrot cake and I loved it - not overly sweet and really moist. The ambiance wasn't totally my vibe - I didn't love the music (it sounded top 40-ish) and the interior design felt pretty industrial, which personally seems at odds with a tapas place where you think of sharing food with friends and loved ones. Even some art on the walls could have added some warmth and character. That said, I had a great time and, most importantly, the food was sublime. Truffle fries were mediocre but the burrata was excellent. Then for the entree part, the Dilly Dilly chicken was overcooked and dry but the Cevi-che Lives had a great balance of fishy taste and the cucumber gazpacho.
