Pomegranate Margarita

Friendly service and good food. I love the quirky names. Only thing that kept it from 5 stars is a lot of things I wanted to try were out that day Guess I gotta go back again! Ha!

Amaretto sour/old fashioned
Khadiga B.

We live nearby and stopped in here for a quick cocktail after a long work day. They weren't too busy and we got seated at the bar, asked for an amaretto sour and they said they didn't carry amaretto but could make something close to it - it was amazing! Husband got an old fashioned & it was equally good. Will have to stop by for dinner soon.

Lamb shank and meatballs

I really wanted to love this place, especially as a small, women-owned business, but I'm honestly baffled by the 4.5+ star rating. The food was just okay and definitely didn't match the price point. The lamb was overcooked, the meatballs were dry, and the crab dip was a lemon bomb. One of the most surprising letdowns was the $7 "table bread," which turned out to be a single dinner roll that reminded me of Outback's brown bread... And the $20 smoked old fashioned came with a clementine wedge, which absolutely doesn't belong in a cocktail. I appreciate the concept, and the service was fine, but overall, the Teal Turnip was a major miss for me. If you're looking for true quality local, farm-to-table dining, I'd recommend Restaurant Constance.

Weird Wine Wednesday with neighbors -Teal Turnip nailed

Great food small plates/tapas --all made from local ingredients-seasonal offerings. Menu changes at least monthly. You can get small plates/sharables or entree portions. They also have a great lunch menu!! Excellent bar with innovative cocktail and wine offerings. It's in Oakhurst center and has indoor and outdoor dining. It's such a great restaurant for meeting up with friends or just a romantic dinner for 2. Definitely make reservations. It's more of an adult atmosphere so i don't think it's for younger children unless you dine outside. Also check out their Weird Wine Wednesday -the last wednesday of each month for a terrific 4-wine pairing with small bites. DELICIOUS INNOVATIVE and fun plus you learn about each wine. It's definitely a fun evening as shown below. It's definitely a meal -so u won't go hung

I was in Charlotte visiting my mom over Easter and she mentioned this small plates restaurant near her home in oakhurst. We arrived around 2 pm and there were a couple other people, but the restaurant was quiet. It was really beautifully decorated, with an open kitchen, nice bar, and quality chairs and furnishings. I was a little concerned by the "small plates" mentioned and the prices were pretty low. We started with parm truffle fries that were phenomenal! I'm so used to eating frozen then fried fries at restaurants that these were next level! We couldn't put our finger on the flavors in the dipping sauce but it was nice! While we were reviewing the menu my mom and I both got lemonade. She got the basil and I got the lavender. They were both great! For our entrees my mom got the beet salad with blackened chicken, and I got the million dollar burger, with a side salad. The complexity of the flavors was incredible. The portions are really big and honestly I took 1/2 my burger and entire salad back. My mom also took 1/2 her salad home. The total bill, including drinks, the fries, my upcharge side salad, and our entrees was only $40! I couldn't believe it. The quality was amazing. Highly recommend this spot!

The Teal Turnip is a gem in Charlotte's Oakhurst! It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience. Think cozy neighborhood bar, but make it fancy. The service? Top-notch - you'll feel like you dropped by to visit family. And the food? It couldn't possibly be boring! Taylor and Steve whip up imaginative dishes with unique flavors, and the Cahones (brisket meatballs!) are a must-try. Plus, the menu changes five times a year, so there's always something new to discover. It's elevated dining for the laid-back crowd. There is parking in the free lot onsite and the price point is moderate. The food and cocktails are priced fairly to me.

The food is truly farm to table with an amazing menu that connects you with the vegetables and proteins when they're in peak season. The service was amazing! We booked an early reservation, but the restaurant got pretty crowded while we were there. It's a cute location with windows you can see into the kitchen. It's not a huge restaurant but it's definitely worth a date night!

Happy Place beer

Tucked away in a small shopping center on Monroe, this is a hidden gem! Small but beautiful, it has a wonderful atmosphere. The service was impeccable, and attentive but not hovering. We got there a little on the later side and told that there was no rush and to enjoy our meal. That's exactly what we did. We started with the Mod Tom. Not your typical charcuterie board, this had pickled peach and a basil cremeaux. Mouth wateringly delicious. For my entree, I chose the You're a Cute-cumber and there were protein options for chicken or salmon. Another entree had U10 prawns so I asked if I could add those instead. The chef came out to discuss the prawns, how many I wanted, and did let me know the price. U10 prawns aren't your typical shrimp. They were fantastic and I'm glad I made the choice. Even more glad that everyone there, all the way to chef/owner, is so helpful!!! Teal Turnip, just like the name of the beer my husband had, is definitely my Happy Place!

Teal Turnip offers great quality food with flavors that truly stand out. You can tell they prioritize fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation in every dish. That said, the portions are a bit disappointing, especially considering the higher price point. While the food is undeniably tasty, the value doesn't quite match up, which left me wanting more for what I paid. If you're looking for excellent flavors and don't mind splurging a bit, Teal Turnip is worth trying. Just don't expect to leave feeling completely full unless you order extra!

Edamame hummus
Jessica P.

Run. Don't walk--get here as fast as you possibly can. This place will blow your socks off with both the food & service. The edamame hummus is to die for and the seasonal bread (cornbread) is OMG good. I cannot say enough about how lovely and clean and YUMMY this place is. The textures chef incorporates, the flavor profiles--it all works.

Gourd-geous app and turmeric, carrot Titos drink. So pretty together!

The Teal Turnip is everything I've ever wanted in a restaurant - intimate atmosphere, great lighting, phenomenal service, and really amazing flavors. They also have a seasonal patio. How lucky we are to have this absolute gem in our part of Charlotte! I think Kai was my waitress/ bartender, and she looked out for me the whole time, hinting at the incoming crowd that may delay my takeout order (without rushing me!) So pleased to see this place bustling and keeping that quality through the roof. Pretty strict on no kids, bummer if you got a good one, but there's not a ton of room or kiddie menu so probably the right call. Again, just thrilled they took a chance on our part of the city, hope we can continue to make it worth their while!

We had a lovely time at The Teal Turnip this evening. The staff was very welcoming and inviting as well as knowledgeable about every detail of the menu which is appreciated! They were having a private event tonight so the restaurant was set up a little differently than usual. The menu was so unique as they update it seasonally and source food from local farmers - big plus. The cocktails were delish and they have a sommelier on staff so the wine list was awesome - AND had the sommelier's tasting notes. Their focus is small plates so we tried 4 - the Gourdeous was amazing and our favorite, the brisket meatballs were delish (on the sweeter side), duck was very well prepared and blue cheese polenta was lovely, and the scallops were ok but not our favorite - needed a bit more seasoning. Finished with the red velvet brownie which would typically be too sweet for me but it had the perfect balance. The menu pictured will only be there for another 2 weeks or so before they flip to their full fall menu. It is clear they have a strong cocktail program and wine expertise so would be fun to go here for drinks again soon! Solid parking options!

There's outdoor seating, and initially we wanted to sit outside but we didn't have reservations. Luckily, they seated us at a small corner section near the back of the bar. It's very cozy and intimate inside. Just my type of vibe. The service was top tier. They were unable to validate our parking because of some sort of discrepancy with the signage outside and lack of having the proper equipment for validation. To make up for it, they offered us complimentary champagne to start. We were not expecting that, and pleasantly surprised! Their menu has an eclectic selection of cocktails, both full and mini. We opted to order from the mini cocktail menu, and we each ordered two drinks. I had the Creepy cucumber cocktail and it was refreshingly sweet and probably my favorite drink of the night. I also ordered the Don't Shy Away which was a sour and spicy rum concoction with carrot in it. It was definitely spicy and had a puréed texture. I really enjoyed it. And, then don't get me started on the music!!! The dj was masterful. He played all the types of music I love and he mixed them in such a refreshing way. I ended up asking him for his contact information before leaving, and whether he does weddings because my fiancé and I are currently looking for a DJ. He was just that good. This would definitely be my spot if I lived here in Charlotte. It was the perfect way for us to end the night.

It's a small intimate setting and I do love the dark aesthetic they did. Gives it a swanky vibe and makes a great date spot. But they were burning incense in the tiny space and it was overwhelming. The other bar guests sitting next to us agreed. *They did finally pick up on it and the staff moved it toward the kitchen door* Staff was friendly as well, though, it was busy and looked as if they had a trainee in tow, so attention was lacking just a bit. So why we came: The drinks were average to me. One was weird (Pineapple Fried Rice) and I just couldn't get it sit well on my palate - and I tried - sip after sip. But the mixologist saw my struggle and swapped it out for a different one. I did like the Don't Shy Away - it was an interesting take on a margarita with a strong carrot base. The Whispering Dove was a take on a Paloma and I couldn't find the lemongrass infusion on my palate. So I found it pretty basic, but pricey. So overall, decent. And I might stop buy if I was stuck in the area again.

We were there for probably 2ish hours and only got 1 drink (the one outside) as it was so hard to flag down our waitress, etc. I suspect that this place, having recently received awards / gone viral, is a victim of a huge influx of people stopping by. Now while she was vaguely aware of their "spirited kingdom" menu, I had NO CLUE. It was the best surprise! They have such a cool menu with a full theme park map containing 4 lands with 4 cocktails each. The cocktails all match the type of ride they are, it's honestly such a cool idea, and it was so well done. I loved the art. I will say, I was skeptical that all of their drinks would actually work and worried that they'd be too caught up in the theme to make results but . . . Oh my goodness I was so impressed by the drinks here. I think a lot of bars these days can get so caught up in trying to be unique that their drinks become nearly undrinkable. This place definitely doesn't suffer there. They brought us an aperitif when we came in, but unfortunately I have a blueberry allergy so we skipped that. We had 4 drinks between the 2 of us and they were all awesome. I ordered the star breaker and the green dragon (what can I say, I love gin and a good coaster), and they were both balanced and tasty. My friend got the diablo and the neon shift, and they were both fantastic as well! The neon shift was served with a black light too which was super cute. The one drink I have to call out specifically is the green dragon. There was something about this drink that was so unique, I have genuinely never had anything like it but I would order it a thousand times over. It's so good. It keeps me up at night. It haunts my every bar order. I will be writing home about it. What else can I say about this place - the service was great, the atmosphere was fun, and the DJ was amazing. I thought "wow this guy really likes sax covers" only to look over and see him PLAYING HIS SAXOPHONE LIVE?? Iconic. This place was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it. The spirited kingdom menu will only be around for 6 months according to the waitress, so definitely catch it while it's there! If I'd heard about it sooner, I would've maybe descended upon them with 200+ theme park engineers in town for the conference (maybe it's a good thing I didn't know they were there until after it was over), but instead I will just say DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATION NOW

(I really don't like touching the handles of spoons that hundreds of people have touched.) Some of the stuff is self serve but not any of the hot dishes. While I take full responsibility for arriving 15 minutes late, I was shocked at how rudely the hostess--who we later learned was the manager--handled the situation. Rather than a simple acknowledgment of the delay, or improbability of getting a table, she made a point to shame us, emphasizing that accommodating us would be an extra burden for her. This set an uncomfortable tone from the start. When she begrudgingly seated us at a table that had somehow magically become available, she made another unnecessary comment, implying that I should do my part to not make her job so difficult again. My partner was immediately put off and suggested we leave, but I decided to give the restaurant another chance, assuming the manager might just be having a rough night. Unfortunately, things did not improve. The food, best described as uninspired frozen bar fare from the main Duckworth's kitchen, took over 30 minutes to arrive--and even then, it was served before our drinks. When the drinks finally did arrive, they were nothing exceptional. I ordered a French 75, and my partner had a Paloma, only to realize that even the drinks had come from downstairs at Duckworth's. Given the restaurant's supposed reputation, I was surprised that it didn't have its own bar, unlike how things are set up at The Cellar. The only redeeming aspect of our visit was our waitress, who was pleasant and professional. However, what puzzled us the most was that despite the manager's initial reluctance to seat us, nearly half of the restaurant remained empty throughout the evening. With at least three or four servers working in a relatively small space, it was clear that staffing wasn't the issue--so why the hostility? It was hard not to wonder if other potential diners had been similarly turned off by the manager's deplorable attitude and the underwhelming menu. Overall, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths--both literally and figuratively. Between the lackluster food and drinks, and the uncalled-for attitude from management (she is bald and was wearing a dress on the evening of 2/14/25 at 9:30PM-11PM), I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.
