We've been to Kid Cashew several times and have tried a variety of dishes. One thing we appreciated was the dog-friendly patio, and on previous visits the food was consistently good. The chicken skewers were especially great during earlier visits -- very moist, flavorful, and something we specifically came back to order again. Unfortunately, our last visit was really disappointing. The chicken was extremely overcooked and very dry compared to prior visits. The brussel sprouts were also undercooked and mostly raw. It's also worth noting they do not take reservations for parties under six, which can make planning ahead difficult during busy times. It was frustrating because we know the food can be much better based on our previous experiences. If the kitchen were more consistent, the rating would be very different. read more

I said it six years ago, and I'll say it again -- just go to Kid Cashew. In all the years since my first visit, I've had nothing but good food and good experiences. The food is consistently good and has so many good-for-you options that you can't go wrong, whether you're ordering a wood-fired portobello gyro or the deliciously juicy Big Mac daddy. (Ok, that last one's not good for your health, but it *is* good for your tastebuds.) All hail the wood-fire grill! The patio outside is still a great spot, even in the winter when it's covered. The setting is cute, old timey, has outdoor seating also, menu has asterisk beside the gf options, but extremely loud with no sound buffers, lighting is harsh with uncovered bulbs, the front main entrance doesn't have any handicap access and it has a giant step up that's part of the cement and no hand rails, and the ramp at the end of the building isn't at a marked door so it looks like it's for deliveries. Food was beautiful on the plate but tasted absolutely horrible! The only thing on my plate that tasted good was the raw carrots, raw celery, and water if that tells you anything! I ordered gf 1/2 chicken and avocado sandwiche with a side of beets. The beets were burnt and the sandwich tasted so bad I gagged on it and only took two bites. The small amount of goat cheese that came on the beets was good. The waitress wasn't attentive to our table either. We did explain our food tasted horrible and she replaced it with a cilantro chipotle chicken skewer and the smell was so bad from it I couldn't eat it. Our daughters gluten food was bad as well. Sat at the bar for a quick meal here. It was lively, but not too loud. I ordered the octopus, meatballs, and rotisserie chicken. The octopus was flavorful, but a tad bit chewy for my liking. It was not enough to take away from the dish. The meatballs were phenomenal. They were tender, juicy, and the sauce they came in was INSANE. Lastly, the rotisserie chicken was well-seasoned and very moist. My only complaint would be that it's a bit hard to pull apart, but that is to be expected. The service was friendly and attentive, especially for sitting at the bar. I love that they were shirts with "goats" like Ali and Bourdain. Additionally, the prices are extremely reasonable. It's been a few years since we have been here so we decided to give it another shot. We went for brunch after @frontporchsundays. Between the two of us we had a Bloody Mary, a burger (not the Mac daddy, the one with bacon) and the egg stack . The good: the Bloody Mary had a bit more of a kick to it than my husband would like but he still enjoyed it and was the best thing we ordered. The not so good: The texture on the egg stack was strange and not pleasant at all. I left 2/3 of the little square on my plate untouched and the server didn't even comment or ask about it. The bacon was undercooked and limp but I cut off the fat and ate the bacon and avocado. I would NOT recommend the egg soufflé/stack. Lacking in flavor and the texture was not remotely egg-like. The burger had good flavor but the bun completely fell apart in my husband's hands after the FIRST BITE. He ate it with a fork and left the bun and the chips behind because the chips had a spicy seasoning on them and between that and his drink, it was too much spice. Again, the server takes his plate away with most of the food on the plate still and doesn't say a word. The first visit wasn't especially memorable and this second visit wasn't any better. Where to even begin!? My brother was in between having us eat here and a place across from here called Penguin. I'm really happy we ate at Kid Cashew! From the service to the atmosphere on the patio where we chose to eat, everything was immaculate. Our server told us about a great deal where the tapas are all discounted until 6pm Monday through Friday. We got a bottle of wine for the table and tried a bunch of food to share for the table. I think one of my favorites was the chicken skewers! The chicken literally melted off the skewers and tasted so good with the cilantro lime. The Mac and cheese was to die for too. Can't forget the octopus! It paired well with the couscous and seasoning. If I was around here again in Charlotte, I would definitely come back here and do their tapas again! I ordered takeout to the office and, unfortunately, the food wasn't very appealing. I ordered the Impossible Gyro, but it appeared to have some type of chicken in it, which was confusing and disappointing since I specifically chose a plant-based option. Upon entering the establishment we were quickly greeted and seated. Our server wasn't too far behind to take our drink order and took an order for a small plate for us to share. Our small plate arrived a shortly after about 5 minutes. We received the cast iron Mac and cheese and it was delicious and couldn't recommend enough. We decided to order the Big Cheese Burger and the All Natural wood fired chicken avocado. Our waiter at that point had been a little infrequent but had managed to keep our waters from going empty. When our meals arrived is where things took a turn. We hardly seen our waiter anymore, which was a bummer. My chicken sandwich ended up being shredded chicken which no where on the menu mentioned that, but I could've asked that prior to ordering I'll admit. Wood fired just led me to assume it would have been a patty. That being said of our meals were very bland. So I was looking for something to add at least to try to salvage it. Mine being shredded chicken it didn't really change how bland it was with trying to add salt and pepper or the chipotle sauce I was offered. I was offered two other things but those it's typically are on the bland side of things too so I didn't attempt. The burger was on a similar issue, no seasoning and just relied on the wood fire. The bacon on it was also unevenly cooked. The only thing not bland in our meals were the chips which were an unbalanced amount of cayenne pepper. Overall I liked the atmosphere and the starter. While it wouldn't be somewhere I'd highly recommend based on what I ordered, I'd definitely go back and try different items. Looking around us plenty of people seem to enjoy what they had ordered. So I'm assuming we just ordered something not as good, or had an off day for the cook. read more

Kid Cashew already gets a lot of love from locals but as an out of towner, I'll add to it! Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night and it was packed! Good for them. We had a little wait but it was no big deal. The patio is lovely and this is a pretty spacious restaurant so things move fast. We ordered the beets which I really liked. I got the chicken (with a side of beans that never came :( ) and my dinner date for the pork. We looked our food! The chicken was cooked perfectly. The vibes are cute and farmhousey but it's cozy and people are perfectly nice. One thing that's weird is that for a place that accommodates a lot of different diets they didn't have any GF desserts. The value for the portion sizes and quality is here is really what pushed to 5 over 4 stars. They also had some great sauces that came with my chicken I would recommend, especially for a group like a family or birthday dinner. read more

After becoming stranded in Charlotte due to the winter storm, we embarked on a culinary adventure and discovered Kid Cashew, a Mediterranean restaurant. The establishment's namesake originates from the owner's childhood pet goat. We were impressed by the menu's diverse offerings. I opted for the quinoa-stuffed avocado and shrimp with polenta as starters, both of which were delectable, and concluded with the lamb burger as my main course, which was exceptional. My partner began with the spicy feta starter and subsequently ordered the quinoa-stuffed avocado after sampling mine. For their main course, they selected the salmon, which was expertly prepared. I also indulged in the Pearadise Margarita mocktail. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu and strawberry shortcake, which were both excellent and the perfect ending to a really amazing dinner. I had been eating pizza for dinner three nights in a row and was in dire need of something green. Kid Cashew to the rescue (I am so glad this rhyme worked out). I absolutely love the early aughts shabby chic aesthetic they have going on in the dining room. It reminds me of my favorite East Village Manhattan crunchy granola restaurants (but slightly upscale and updated). I'm a sucker for random chandeliers. It's spacious and inviting. There's a dedicated vegan section of the menu. Thank you! They are proudly anti heat lamp, microwave and fryer and you will not miss them. I ordered the vegan Caesar salad, which thankfully does not contain croutons, and added some Impossible meat. It's a huge salad and I loved the creamy dressing, hearts of palm and avocado making it a hearty protein and healthy fats-loaded dinner. We also shared the hummus, which is excellent as well. While I didn't love my lavender lemonade (too strong, barely any lavender flavor), I appreciated that they had a decent selection of wines by the glass. Service was prompt and friendly. I'd give this place a solid 4 because the food is good and they have a great selection of options, including halal chicken and vegan options. I ordered the Lamb cheese burger and although it was tasty, it was a bit too greasy for me. As soon as you bite into it juice oozes all over your plate and when you sit it down it runs all into the chips, making them soggy. My bread was pretty soggy too. The rest of my tabled ordered the shrimp and grits and all loved it. I'd come again and just try something different. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. The restaurant had a rustic vibe and an outdoor patio that I can't wait to check out in the spring or summer. I had no trouble finding a parking spot in the lot, and the prices were pretty fair. She also explained that the kitchen doesn't use heat lamps, so the food comes out as it's ready. Honestly - that's preferable! We started with the trio of dips, which came with a hefty amount of warm pita. Although they were all tasty, we agreed the spicy feta was our fave!
