The staff are extremely knowledgeable about all of their products, and can give you quite a few hints as to what to use each thing for, and they're great about finding exactly what you need even if you weren't sure what it was at first. We've gone in there wanting to get a tea, for this mood, or feeling this way, or just to experiment with a new flavor and after just a couple of simple questions they had several suggestions, and you can sample some of the oils, teas, etc.. They do have a few places to sit if you want to have a nice small pot of hot tea while you work. Last night, I came here with my friend for a tea tasting class. This is such a cool place! There were tables set with black linens, a pad of paper, a pen, a few tasting cups, and a fancy teacup and saucer. The owner of the shop, Missy, filled each teacup with a really yummy tea called For Her. It was very light and floral. As we sipped the tea, she went over the history of tea and the different types of tea. As she talked about each specific tea, her teammate Lauren went around and poured a sample of the tea in our tasting cups. Missy would talk about the health benefits of each tea and what notes we should be smelling/tasting. She also told us some fun stories of her conference and experiencing the whole tea making process. After the class, we could explore the tea leaves on the shelves and buy them. I got a peach oolong (which was one of the teas we tasted) and Happy Days (another fruity tea). The shop also has spices and balsamic vinegar to buy. Missy and Lauren did such an amazing job and I really enjoyed the class! Hope to be back soon! read more

I wanted to try something different than a big Corp coffee shop. This is an amazing spot. They offer tea and so much more. The staff was super friendly and explained the 100's of different teas they offer. Stayed and had a few cups of tea while also buying some sweet jelly's and flavored oils for cooking. I love this place!!! They have a big selection of teas and seasonings for pretty much anything. I bought a tea that was spicy and mixed it with a berry flavored tea to cut the spice a little bit and it helped get rid of my sore throat and stuffy nose. The place is warm and inviting. read more

I will start this review stating that I've been going to the Tea Tree in Batavia for several years fairly often and can speak from repeated visits the inconsistency of customer service. I have always been greeted, usually someone's there to answer any questions or help me find something to suit my tastes. That being said, my last 2 visits in particular, both after the new year, have been mediocre at best. I was greeted both times when I walked in, but that's where the customer service stopped. Their shop is in desperate need of more inventory. They're out of some of the most popular teas: Matcha powder, English Breakfast, and others. Their Chaga mushroom chai is a new favorite of mine I tried for the first time in the fall on a recommendation from a woman I met from Germany. They were out of it at the beginning of January, but they did get more in stock at some point since I was able to refill my tin this time. There's a young woman who works there that's not very friendly and gives off a "I'm only working here for experience and a paycheck" attitude. An example of this: I asked about whether she knew when I could expect them to get more matcha powder in, and she said, "whenever they restock the supply." Then I asked if she could tell me if the Plainfield location had any in stock and she responded, "You can call them and ask." On my receipt it said her name is Kassie. I would give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she was having a bad day and it was leaking into her professional life that day, but I'm pretty certain she was the same person who rang me up last time I was in there and it was a very similar experience. In the past, other employees there would not only apologize for their low supply of whatever was missing, but they'd help me find something similar and if I was interested, they'd call their Plainfield location for me and ask if they have certain teas in stock. I hope it's just this one employee that's not the happiest to be there and that this store is still generally a great place to work and shop. I live in Plano, so it's a good drive every time I visit. Actually, there IS one thing better than that and that's going IN The Tea Tree! Not only do they have a fantastic selection of teas, spices and oils, they also have Missi! She is the owner and heart and sole of the place! All the staff is fantastic, but when I go there and Missi is in, I'm ready for a long and fascinating conversation! Recently I purchased White peach and Kauai cocktail and, surprise surprise, they have become my favorites! And, mind you, I have about 25 different kinds of teas in my house. Such a great place! It's a good thing I don't live in Batavia anymore because I would definitely be spending all my money here... :) So many different loose leaf teas to choose from! While I was there I got the Moroccan Mint tea and my boyfriend got Brewed Awakening- a black tea blend with coffee beans and white chocolate. I bought extra of that one because it was different than anything I had ever seen before. But tea just comprises one room of the store- there's also a vinegar and olive oil room, a spice room, and an essential oils/candles/misc room... I was in heaven! I tried a couple of the balsamic vinegar and ended up buying a peach balsamic. She even has small taster bottles for $3.75 so if you don't want to invest in a whole bottle, you can buy a bit of everything! Definitely plan to return- hopefully sometime soon! read more

One trip was enough to have me OBSESSED! The Tea Tree is everything I could dream of in a shop and more! I was instantly impressed by the massive selection of loose leaf teas. I drank three cups of tea just walking around in the store - there's THAT MUCH to look at! Plan on spending an hour or so here! My favorite teas (so far) are banana and endurance. Let's just all agree that the name of this adorable cafe is awesome and completely fits the vibe of the store. This cafe has a wonderful, well organised, nicely packaged, assortment of teas, spices, and essential oils. After thoroughly sniffing all of my favourite oils, I peeked in the spice room to take inventory of all of the spices I would soon need to stock up on. I came this particular evening for a meeting that was being held here. I came early and I'm glad I did so that I could see and appreciate the varieties of teas. I went with an iced Italian blood orange tea and now that I've been home for a few hours and have thought of it at least 7 times, I know I'll be back to purchase some for home. I have visited this shop several times now and always enjoy conversation with the warm and friendly owner, Melissa Hartmann. I first started visiting during the Batavia Farmers Market on River Street and bought a few loose leaf tea samples. Prices are moderate and the tea is displayed in large glass containers with airtight lids. You can buy a small sample bag, a 3oz or a 5oz can. I graduated from the sample bags to the larger cans after I was hooked on my favorite Jasmine Blueberry (a blend of green tea, jasmine flowers, blueberries and natural flavors). Another favorite is Coconut Cacao Pu-erh. (Pu-erh tea, cocoa nibs, coconut pieces and natural flavors) . They have a cozy area in the shop with lots of natural light where you can enjoy a cup of tea with a friend. Every time I'm there I see people enjoying this spot :) I recently sampled and then bought one of their gourmet balsamic vinegars. The blackberry balsamic is just the right mix of sweet and sour and I add it to all my salads. Try it on fresh unsweetened goat yogurt to create an interesting dip for veggies/fruit. Also tried some of their lovely spices. Lots of unique gift ideas here; handmade candles, scent diffusers, essential oils, pottery mugs.
