Bar pretzels
Josh P.

We went yesterday for the Arsenal (soccer) watch party. It was almost full but we were able to grab a table by the door. She got a shiner cheers for $8 and I got a beautifully poured Guinness draught stout for $8 and we started with the bar pretzels with mustard and queso. They were really good with croissant like flakes and we both really enjoyed the cheese and mustard. We were thinking of getting the stroganoff and asked the waitress what her favorite dish was and ironically she mentioned that without knowing which way we were already leaning. It was really good...the sauce, the mushrooms, the steak....mmmm. They have buckets of domestics for $15 so we got one of those as well. The service was pretty solid overall. Started a little slow to get our first order but she was stopping by every few minutes after that and was friendly and helpful. I was quite happy with the experience overall, especially considering how busy they were.

Any place that will make my dog a scrambled egg is a-ok in my book. Whenever we go to Pease Park we like to swing by for a bite to eat. It's a neighborhood sports bar with large screen everywhere so if you're there to catch a game, you'll not miss a thing. We primarily go because we love the old school neighborhood vibe. It's just always welcoming. Lots of bars have great food and drinks but The Tavern ranks high in the ratings for comfort food. The portions are enough for two to share and the prices are really reasonable. Some of my favorite things are the classic house salad wrap, it's literally a salad in a wrap that you can also get with either grilled or friend chicken. The Tavern Burger is a classic cheeseburger and it's served on a homemade potato bun. Southern Chicken Salad is huge with generous servings of chicken pieces. Our boy Benji says two paws up!

Stopped by The Tavern to catch a basketball game and enjoyed the low-key vibe and solid menu selection. It's a good spot to relax and watch sports without the chaos of a bigger bar. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit mixed. The bangers and mash were disappointing--the sausages lacked flavor, and the mashed potatoes were just okay. Surprisingly, the veggies were the best part of the dish. Service-wise, it felt like the staff was eager for us to leave, even though we just wanted to enjoy the whole game.A more welcoming approach would have made the night much better. Overall, decent atmosphere, but the food and service could use some improvement.

Perfect mix of grit and elegance to be the perfect sports bar. Food was great, drinks cold & cheap!

Great place to catch the KC Chiefs game if you're a fan in the area. My coworker and I had a hard time picking what to order because so many things sounded good. Went with some classic chips & dip and would 100000% recommend these!

The Tavern is a cozy spot to have a beer, a cocktail, or a full meal. There are many screens about so if you're in the mood to watch sports, this is a great location to do it. Recently I saw the final four BB game (women's) while enjoying fish tacos, made with breaded cod, and a nice margarita. Will definitely go there again and try some other dishes. I subbed a side salad for the beans and rice, and it was very tasty with Crispy lettuce and fresh veggies. FYI the jalapeno ranch dressing does have a little kick to it, which I liked.

Usually love this place but got the shittiest entree tonight that you would think nobody would allow to be sold, seriously. See my photo reference--ordered the White Wings and got the blackest crustiest shit I have ever witnessed--not to mention how bone dry the chicken inside was-- nobody should be subjected to such slop nor pay for it. Buyer BEWARE! Enjoy ACL the right way and don't go somewhere that allows this to walk outside of the kitchen

Came to The Tavern on 12th and Lamar, to watch the game on my birthday. The food was great but the service was outstanding. Maddie was our bartender and she was super fun. Old Austin charm at its best!!!

I always love coming here the atmosphere, food and the staff are amazing! The management comes out often and asks for our experience and what we think can make it even better. They really pay attention to customers and you always have a good time.

Tex Mex Burger and Sweet Potato fries
Kia L.

Stopped here with a friend after leaving Pease Park. I ordered the Tex mex burger and sweet potatoes fries which came to a total of $16.24. The food was fine, but the service was slow and rude, we wanted our check and the server took 30 minutes to check on us so we closed out at the bar. The place was mostly empty besides a few people watching a soccer game.

I used to go often because of a few good bartenders but lately the service there has sadly declined. Good sweet potato fries though!

Ask the Community - The Tavern

Do they open early for EPL soccer matches?

The Tavern is an Arsenal pub, so they are open for all AFC matches at any hour of the day.

Is it 21 and up only?

It's all ages

I don't recall, is there an elevator?

Just a dumb waiter for food.

I was surprised to find a little gift/souvenir shop when I walked in, but quickly realizing the party's behind the second set of doors! They have covered and uncovered seating options and several TV screens. Not all of them were on, so I wonder what situation would call for all of them to be on.... The food ordering is through a QR code sticker on each table. When we went, they had a cute fall display for photo ops and a photo booth that is more permanent. I ordered the brisket & egg biscuit as well as the sweet potato fries. Didn't finish the fries but they were decently good even a little soggy! They also were super generous with the number of ketchup packets - I got 3 but only used 1. My only comment is that the bathroom was not the best, but it's definitely miles ahead a porta potty! Also shocked at how small the bathroom was, given how large crowds can get on game days (of all sports).

Eclectic decor, crowd and menu; it was very Austin! Service was excellent throughout and we enjoyed trying several dishes off their menu! Began with a cocktail called Roselite which was both delicious and beautiful then we tried a variety of their dishes! My absolute favorite was their oysters Rockefeller which were some of the best I have had anywhere! The topic was crispy and delicious and they were perfectly cooked! Also enjoyed the half dozen or their East Coast oysters that were delicious. Enjoyed their delicious yellowfin tuna with lemons, capers, shallots and olive oil. The fries and onion dip were also just excellent ! My only let down - and it was barely that as it was so delicious and fresh - was the smoked trout dip! Part of it was a me problem as I was comparing it to my favorite version made by State Bird - a famous eatery in San Francisco where this is one of their go to dishes - and part of it was that this restaurant has that Feankin BBQ tie so when they said smoked - I was looking forward to that smoke forward taste and their was none - but it was fresh, delicious and well prepared! Had a fantastic time here and will definitely go back! Highly recommend Uptown!

For reasons that make no sense to any experienced summer festival-goer, the Q2 powers-that-be decided to make this a "no re-entry" event, meaning that attendees are basically locked in the stadium with very few options for relief from the heat. Thank heaven for PointsBet Sports Bar! PointsBet Austin is located inside of Q2 stadium on the north end near the Zebra Gate, up some stairs just to your right as you enter the gate. They have cold air-conditioning, at least one phone recharging station, a few table games, seating for at least 50 people, and standing room for a couple hundred others. Plus, there's a huge horseshoe bar serving plenty of canned and mixed beverages. The whole north wall is floor-to-ceiling windows, providing plenty of natural light. Lastly, there are 18 flatscreens around the walls showing various sporting events and during our concert, a couple were streaming a live view of the concert stage. As expected, prices were "high" (like everything else in Austin these days), but they were in line with pricing available at the other beverage stands outside in the stadium, so we didn't pay any more than we would have out there for the same drink. According to their website, PointsBet opens 3 hours before soccer matches on regular Q2 game days, and it's one of the few air-conditioned places where non-VIP attendees can get a break from the goings-on outside.

So we thought we would make a whole night of it. Tiffany did make reservations for us for 7pm and even though this is a bar hopping neighborhood, even at 7pm it was pretty busy. Streets were full of people. Anthem had a vibe. I felt the energy as soon as I waked in. The cozy booths with the U shaped seating with plush green velvet fabric. Wait staff wore Hawaiian shirts. Sitting up behind me on a ledge was the Easter Island statue. Insert (Night At The Museum) here, dumb dumb give me gum gum. Anthem was our first stop tonight. Just drinks and a dinner. I ordered the Peach Fuzzy drink. Not too sweet, refreshing, peachy, and beautiful garnish of a flower. I ordered the Yummy Fries which looked like a salad. Gorgeous presentation. Fries were actually waffle sweet potatoes. Pickled ginger, sesame seeds, furikake, aïoli and a few other wonderful ingredients. Could not get over how beautiful everything looked.
