It's a little bar by the grove came on a Friday late afternoon with my partner and it was pretty empty. Pretty simple, wasn't sure to order drinks at the bar or to wait for someone to come to our table. We had to ask for menus. They had ran out of chicken wings, so we ordered tacos and pizza. It was okay overall, if you're bar hopping in the grove this would be a spot to go to. If you're hungry then there are other spots to go to. read more

Ah, Taurus! Tried and true, you are THE watering hole of the Coconut Grove locals. Regulars are always abound at your bar, including the 4-legged sidekick of the cutest old man ever, and there's always a story, joke, or tale being shared between the patrons and the bartenders. The quote of the day on the side wall's chalkboard is just awesome. Last night it said, thanks to a local patron, "To err is human, but to blame someone else shows Management Potential". HAHAHA Oh ya, that's a good one! It just gives such a great feel and vibe to know that you are so about your regulars. That, and the special plaque wall too, honoring all the passed-on Taurus Regulars. I love your history. The Sam Adams lager in the special Sam Adams glass is my favorite. We ordered a round of those and sat outside to enjoy the beautiful, crisp weather. It was nice to sit and catch up with a good friend, as well as my love. The three of us started to get cold as the sun started setting, so we opted to move inside and stay warm! Now it was time for some food. I decided to try the Meatball Sandwich, which came with ricotta cheese, meatballs, and tomato sauce on this delicious bread. It was really damn good! The meatballs were seasoned nicely, but not overwhelmingly so, and the tomato sauce was light, but flavored well. The ricotta cheese was just the perfect touch, instead of traditional melted provolone, or mozzarella (depending). Our friend opted for the Taurus burger, which was delicious, juicy and HUGE! My love had a chicken sandwich, that was lightly breaded, and had lettuce, tomatoes, and a nice Dijon mustard. He is still raving about it, so you will definitely be seeing us again soon. One gripe I have is that there aren't more options on the menu, but I understand you're trying to stay a bar, and not a restaurant. I can't believe nobody else has been here yet since it's reopening. We were in the neighborhood so we stopped in today. The door was open and two gals at the bar welcomed us in. The bartender asked us how we were. Since it was 95 degrees out at about 3:30pm, I was quick to reply that we were thirsty. Bartender: "Oh, I'm sorry. We're not open until 4pm"(25 min. away, mind you) Really, well the door was wide open. We just assumed the bar was open Not a good way to start off with your precious re-opening. I mean two people were already drinking. Sure, maybe they were staff. We just got our hopes up since all signs looked like they were open for business and we were given a big welcome only to have the door close on us. Very LAME. We were really looking forward to sitting on the horsey saddle bar stools too! ; ) I'm a fair person. I'm not sure why Yelp has gotten such a bad impression of this place. My friends and I were reading the Yelp reviews on our phones and decided to give it a try anyway and had a really nice time here. We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon half way in our bike ride through Coconut Grove. The patio furniture outside was simple and very relaxing to sit on. We ordered a round of Warsteiner beer and they came by in huge mugs for only $5 and change. The food menu is simple with only a handful of items. In fact I'm pretty sure I can recall them all. They have wings, burgers, a prime steak and cheese pizza. Having only a few items is okay as long as you do those meals good! The burger was big and tasty and I'm glad it wasn't one of those that fall apart like other big burgers. The service was excellent and the manager even came by to greet us and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. This was an enjoyable place that we just happen to find and I can see it getting overlooked by the other bigger and fancier places on the Grove. After getting off to a confusing start everything was perfect! We walked in and it's very dark, in smelled pretty bad inside like sewage, but with the perfect weather we decided to eat out front. We sat outside for a few minutes before walking back inside to see if we were doing something wrong or out of the norm of the "locals" this time we were acknowledged and given some menus and assigned a server, everything after that was great! Our server was extremely nice and professional, he recommended the Tostones for our appetizer which were delicious! You think meh it's just Tostones right? But they had garlic & chimichurri which give it a wonderful taste. For our dinner I had the Blackened Chicken Strips w/ fries and she had the Fried Fish Tacos. Both equally delicious! And cooked and presented perfectly! The server informed us that they share the kitchen with the restaurant next door. For being a Whisky Bar they serve up some very good "Bar Food" and the location and atmosphere is secluded and ideal for a nice time. I would definitely return. We used to go to this place all the time, but hadn't been there in a while. We decided we were gonna go and check it out again. The waitress was completely horrible. We were all shocked at how rude she was to our entire table because of this we will never be going back there again. It's a shame. My wife was doing a little Yelp research on places we could bring our dog for Happy Hour in Miami. She came across Taurus which allows you to bring your furry friends inside the bar with you! We don't go to Coconut Grove often so we were definitely ready to switch it up. Our furry friend definitely appreciated sitting right at the booth along side his parents. The drinks were good too! For happy hour, anything on the menu without an * is half off. The bartender made a mean old-fashioned and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her Italian 75 which was basically adult lemonade. I definitely appreciated the fact that dogs were allowed inside the bar and we will definitely be coming back for future happy hours. read more

This review is for the whiskey lovers among us. Unfortunately, Miami doesn't have many true whiskey bars. Taurus stands out because it's been slinging whiskies for decades. It's well worth visiting if you find yourself in the Coconut Grove or Coral Gables neighborhoods, and it's not a particularly long trek from downtown. Best of all, they have great happy hour specials and a generous hand when pouring! Taurus has a vibe that's a cross between a relaxed dive bar, a ski lodge, and a friend's disorderly basement or garage. The decoration is eclectic, with some random items strewn about in the corners, and a set of mini-barrels in the corner (presumably adding a little extra aging to some of their offerings). Taurus has an extensive selection of whiskies, particularly for the Miami area. Rather than diving very deep into one particular category, such as scotch or bourbon, Taurus maintains a strong roster of several regional varieties, including bourbon, rye, Irish, Canadian, Japanese, and scotch whiskies. I also appreciate when a restaurant or bar puts their entire whiskey list online, which allows a whiskey fan like myself to plan ahead for what I want to try first! There are some rare bottles if you want to try something fancier and off-menu. On the bar's top shelf, I spotted a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20-year old, which is enough to turn any whiskey lover's head. They also have High West's A Midwinter Night's Dram, which is an under-the-radar favorite among rye drinkers for its unique, Christmas/holiday spice profile. Finally, the selection includes some independent scotch bottlings from Gordon & Macphail, which is a sure sign that someone who actually cares is making the selections. From 4 to 7 every day, it discounts most of its bourbons and ryes by 40% (unfortunately, not extending to scotch). In addition to the every-day happy hour, all whiskies are 30% off on Mondays and Wednesdays, which makes the price list look much more attractive. Taurus Bar at Coconut Groove From the time I set foot in here I loved it. This place is a bit small but not cramped. It had more of a cozy type of feel to it, very clean and an old feel to it. Think of it as the watering hole of Coconut Grove. The burger I ate was simply amazing. It had a home made back yard barbeque taste to it plus any burger that I don't have to add any ketchup, mustard or "secret sauce" to it means its perfect just the way it is! Taurus is a 5 star in my book! Next time I am attending their happy hour plus they also have karaoke and live music. My favorite neighborhood bar! I probably go here 2-3 a times and I love it. It has such a great atmosphere with different vibes. The front is so chill and you can people watch, the inside has TVs and a dark bar perfect for drinking whiskey, and the back patio is perfect for dogs! I bring my dog every time and she absolutely loves it. It is so dog friendly and chill. They have an excellent list of whiskey and make very strong drinks. They have a great happy as well until 7pm. The food is amazing. The frita is amazing and so is the Philly cheesesteak. Now they have a partnership with Proof Pizza and I'm obsessed. My friend and I ate two pizzas even after a heavy lunch. This was my first time going to Taurus and I couldn't be happier! We went Saturday night and we were not disappointed. They had KARAOKE going on and the host, Celi, was AWESOME! She made the night! She started the night by performing Wow by Post Malone and duuuuuude! I was blown away!! Celi was energetic and entertaining. She was so much fun. The drinks were great, they weren't watered down like some places in the area. The guys at the bar were friendly, they made it comfortable. The vibe was greeeaaat. The crowd was fun. Super chill. Came here Saturday during the day. The place itself is kind of ragged down. It's really an old beat down neighborhood pub. Not too clean on the inside. Service was good. The food: -American Wagyu sliders: Sliders were actually decent. They were cooked medium and were juicy and had good flavored meat. The sharp cheddar was nice. A solid 3 out of 5. -Pork belly sliders: Came with an apricot spread. These were flat out bad. First, the apricot jam was not a good complement to the pork belly. I do think that the sweetness of the apricot jam can complement the fatty flavors of the pork belly, but this jam tasted way too tart and...bad... The pork belly was also WAYYY too fatty. Literally 3/4th of the slider was a fat slab of pure fat that was inedible. Mind you these are sliders... so the amount of pork belly left that was edible was a mere bite. 1 out of 5, these should be taken off the menu. -Taurus burger: AVERAGE. Nothing stood out from this burger. I read many yelp reviews about burgers being a thing here. Not in my experience. Ordered medium and came out very close to well done? This was a burger you could find at ANY other restaurant. It was not a bad burger, I'd give it a 3 out of 5 for being average. read more

Taurus is definitely in my top favorite neighborhood bars in Coconut Grove. Everyone I bring here enjoys it. Its such a casual and relaxing atmosphere. Sometimes we will hang out at the bar or we grab a table out front. They even have a back patio where you can find most people eating and bigger groups. The staff is so friendly and you can bring your dog which we appreciate. I've come here after dinner for a glass of wine and I've also come during the day after brunch and its always a positive and cheerful vibe. read more

What can I say even though I've been coming to the Taurus for over 30 years my last visit was great. It's always been a go to spot but the new food menu and happy hour specials make it a once week mandatory visit. Very careful with this joint!!! We preorder 8 "special cheeseburgers" on a Wednesday, when the 3 first people arrived....the waiter brought all 8 burgers, without asking for drinks first or going for appetizers or whatever. We had a birthday reunion for one of my friends and we had to move to another place (Lokal....way better). After reading Sabrina's recent review, I was shocked we hadn't stumbled upon this place yet, bar aficionados that we are! And in our own neighborhood! So, we made a beeline after I read "locals' watering hole" - words after my own heart. It's a down a little ways from the usual Grove spots, hence why we'd never seen it before. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, smack in the middle of happy hour, as friendly regulars and local bikers were just getting into their groove. We sat outside on the comfy couches, and sipped a variety of drinks. Half off - how can you beat that?!?! We met some - characters - for sure, and enjoyed their company immensely. We also met the adorable old man Sabrina referred to in her review, and his little pooch. Omg, love at first site - an adorable little lion-headed doggie that rides on his daddy's bike. We has some coconut shrimp and fries with a truffle seasoning of some kind - really tasty. I def could have eaten more, but we were trying to stay under budget - hence happy hour. This review is based solely on the bar and karaoke nights. I will have to try their infamous burger one of these days... First off, I love the fact that this place is like a hidden gem of Coconut Grove; nestled away far enough down Main to keep most tourists and the drunkest/rowdiest college kids away. Us older local kids come down the tree lined streets of the Grove to enjoy this place, away from the ruckus of beer pong, flip cup and pudding wrestling. (not that anything is wrong with any of that, it has it's time and place) Karaoke is my game and I come here to play. They are smart enough to pair their karaoke night with their ladies night, so the social lubricant allows us to lose some inhibition and get up there to belt out a tune, or two...or three. The crowd here during karaoke is pretty chill so I have found it a good spot to *test* out jams that I haven't sung before. There is one bartender that can be a tad unfriendly...but I have learned to just bypass her and order from who ever else is working. read more

(Taurus should) Thank Heavens for second chances. Despite assurances from some pretty solid sources, my first impression of Taurus was no bueno. The bartender ignored me despite being the only person in that particular section. Once he deigned to take my order, he told me that my first two choices of beer were out. Realizing that he made me wait for 12 minutes to be helped (I should have left), he gave me $1 off the beer I wound up drinking. Some gentleman brought a gigantic Great Dane in the bar and left him/her unattended while he caroused with his friends. Seriously. An enormous Great Dane, curled into a tight ball on a dirty bar floor is.not.a.good.look. The place was filled with popped collars, guys who hit on disinterested women to the point of uncomfortableness, terrible singers (was there on karaoke night), and no a/c. In short, it was the waiting room for Hell. I left cursing the (Indian burial) ground it sat upon -- especially because it's located in the Key West-y part of the Grove that I like so much. I was pretty certain I would never come back. Then, after a successful night of carousing, ogling culo, seeing a cool live theatre performance, and getting some dancing in, I was tricked into coming back. Much to my surprise, the atmosphere was much better. Again, it was karaoke night but the crowd was much different. People were pretty chill. Singers went up and did their thing to the whoops and delight of the crowd. It wasn't 96 degrees inside nor was it packed to the brim with Chads.* I didn't dare brave the bar but my intrepid friend, Ms. Bean, did so and in short order, I was sipping on some vodka whilst lounging on a couch and passing judgement on all who dared take the stage. Hialeah sliders, asked for medium rare; got well done. Definitely not wagyu beef. Avocado fries...lol might as well order 8 orders because they only come with THREE THIN SLICES. After asking why there was only three, I quote "well there are only three slices in an avocado." The grilled cheese...make one at home with a blended cheese. It was made with a thin white bread, basic cheese, and ZERO BUTTER. Overall experience was poor. Service was okay...our waiter was busy talking to friends who visited him. We got a table by the tv and the server came right over. We ordered a couple drinks and it was great, till i tasted the wine that may have gone bad. No worries though, the server took it back right away and opened a new bottle. He was really cool about it, grabbed it and replaced it before I finished my sentence! I love "old Miami" stuff so I decided to check out the old/new Taurus for Happy Hour on Friday 7/10. The good news first: local musician Kevin Hurley was there from 4 to 7 p.m., playing his guitar and softening the mood with his expertly performed classic tunes. Our server was prompt with the drink order and attentive - perhaps a little TOO much. For cocktails, you almost expect it to be just the basics... perhaps they should stick to old fashioned cocktails, but nope - they've got a full selection of frou frou libations. my friend ordered a caipirinha (not a great one) and she ordered me a lychee martini (not the best I've had either). So with drinks like that, and a sort-of elegant setting, you expect some nice food choices. Nope. (They must've had something special for the grand opening.) The waitress offered their full menu options verbally: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and chicken wings. What?! no chips? peanuts? Jeez. Two people in our party are vegetarians. Apparently, with smoking in there, they decided to limit the food offerings. (smokers, welcome!) The manager came by and moved the table with our drinks away from us to the corner, forcing us to slide down the bench - and cozy up to a couple who was already sitting there! Uh, Needless to say, we didn't stay long. I would have loved Taurus to at least remind me of the old-time place it used to be. But alas, not sure the new owners were around to experience it. This past Friday evening, the SO and I wandered over to the Taurus as our 3rd stop of the evening. The Taurus has been a quiet little place for us to grab a decent glass of wine and have a great conversation. It's one of those perfect places to take a date when you're looking to chat and get to know each other or spend some quality time together. They had a cover band (The Urge) setup inside and they were rocking some of our favorite 90's jams. It brought a slightly more up-tempo pace to our typically quiet haunt on this lively Friday evening. After a couple of Warsteiners on draft and a few glasses of red wine passed the lips, we ordered a few bites. The Taurus is too small of a place to have it's own kitchen so they've partnered up with neighboring Calamari (http://www.yelp.com/biz/calamari-italian-seafood-miami) to help supply us boozers with some delicious eats. We chowed down on some chicken wings which were good but would have benefitted from being a little less dry/chewy, some pizza and a much better Taurus burger (sans the bun to make it Paleo friendly). A couple complaints from this particular visit were the high concentration of toddlers and children. That's definitely a parenting problem and not a venue issue. Does your kid need to be out and about with you while you're drinking at 11pm (FYI- That's NOT quality time) and disturb my adult time out at a bar with their crying and running around? C'Mon SON! Taurus. It's been around in some capacity ever since I was a little kid and probably before, but I'd never been. I tend to avoid places where drunken ex-hippie divorced baby boomers who were coked up in the 1980s congregate - at a time, it had something of a reputation as a pickup joint for the older crowd. But, I'm happy to report that in its current incarnation, it's not that. It's a perfectly decent neighborhood bar with some outside seating as a plus. The bartender was cool, and they had a decent selection of beers. Bell's Amber was on draft, and for me that was a no-brainer choice. Mixed feelings... This place is loungy but it's full of "older" guys. It's weird. Yet another stop on our PJ Pub Crawl adventure. It didn't have a lot of atmosphere. If it wouldn't have been for the fact that we were all together (the yelpers and new recruits) and we were pretty buzzed already, we wouldn't have had a good time. Nestled on the edge of Coconut Grove, Taurus appears to be the ideal spot to meet-up with friends and enjoy a libation or three. Yes, it's true, the drink menu does boast a somewhat impressive list of beers, whiskey, scotch and bourbon, but be sure you do your own homework! Why? Because the folks behind the bar are only there to pour various liquids into your glass & collect on your bill. The saving grace is the food - the sliders, the tuna tartare, the hot dog and one or two more items are pretty tasty! But don't ask the staff for recommendations - this is a figure it out yourself kinda place! Lastly, we come to the valet parking! For $6 they'll park your car in the bank lot next door, but at the end of the night, you'll get the chance to retrieve it yourself - feel what it's like to be a valet, if only for a minute or two!
