I have to say, however, that their booths need replacing because the springs bulging up under the seat make it less than comfortable. I nevertheless had an extremely enjoyable lunch with my friend. Yet another five star review! Hooray for consistency!!…read more I have been transitioning out of the bedside nursing and into more of a marketing role for the past six months. I have now met four different people here for lunch or picked up breakfast tacos for meetings. Every time the food is stellar. And all four times no one had heard of this place. Why are people not screaming about Lowrider Café from the rooftops? The food, already said hands-down amazing. The service? Always spot on! The owners should be on the shortlist for Toledo philanthropic business owners. When you come in here, you can also purchase a meal for someone who's homeless. They employ people that others wouldn't, and honestly, I'm here for it! I love seeing a local business that gives back to its community. You want specialty coffee? They've got it. Do you want fresh salsa to rival any other salsa in Toledo? They've got that too. You want to buy some great locally handcrafted bags/clothing/unique gift items? They've got you covered. You want a chill spot with a great vibe that just radiates good karma? Come on into low Rider. Bring a couple extra box and buy a taco for someone else too. You'll feel great about the Boy Scout deed. It's a karmic double win- not only are you feeding a local business, but you're also feeding someone who couldn't otherwise afford to feed themselves. This is food that doesn't just feed your belly and feed your soul.

This place has been a reliable stop for me over many years of traveling through the area…read more They do all of the things that you hope for in a low cost Mexican restaurant. They have a wide variety of items on the menu, the preparation is generous but not so fancy that they end up having to charge more. You know what you're getting in a place like this. Basic, reliable, but also delicious! I always take out as a great sign in a Mexican restaurant if the white staff has difficulty speaking English, that is the case here, lol. Having said that every server I've ever had has always been super friendly and welcoming to me. Over the years I've typically gone with their Pollo Loco, which is a simple dish prepared with thin slices of chicken over rice with cheese sauce. I have often lamented that I can't get this particular dish back home. The chicken is always tender, and the cheese sauce is always perfect. Nice crispy chips and delicious not too hot salsa complete the experience. About the only thing I haven't done here is have an alcoholic beverage, on my most recent visit my wife had a margarita and indicated it was delicious. I'm so glad this place is here, and frankly I wish they would open a location in my hometown.

They honestly remind me of the breakfast tacos back home in Texas--which is about the best compliment I can give. If you're local to Toledo, put this place on your breakfast rotation. If you're visiting Toledo and want a great local spot instead of the usual chain breakfast, this is absolutely worth the stop.

The corn was mid at best. It tasted like they took canned corn and added some seasoning and traditional topping. It was absolutely lacking that delicious grilled flavor. I don't even think they put it on the flat top. If I had to guess, I would say it was microwaved. It was very watery. My food was ready in five minutes. Service was fast! https://www.facebook.com/BaldWhiteGuyReviews…read more One request: "Come get me and I want Mexican." Empty nesting is hard, guys. So naturally, we caved, loaded up ole red, and headed north. We did a quick search and landed on Cocina de Carlos in Perrysburg, Ohio. Now, let's be real, Mexican food has basically taken over America at this point. Honestly, I'm all for embracing our new cultural diversity... just as long as it keeps coming smothered in melted queso and backed by free-market capitalism. The place is decorated pretty much exactly like every other Mexican restaurant you've ever been to, and the menu is your typical Americanized festive lineup: tacos, fajita, enchiladas, burritos, oh and cheese sauce. But then something at the top of the menu caught my eye. One of "Carlos' Top 20" dishes: The Pineapple Don Charly. I'm not sure who Don Charly is, but you had me at Pineapple. It's half of a ripe pineapple, hollowed out and filled with mushrooms, onions, pineapple chunks, and baked with cheese on top. There are a few varieties, but I landed on the Mango-Bacon. Um, what? Yes please. It came loaded with 12 jumbo shrimp, bacon, and mango chorizo (and we all know how much I love chorizo) completely covered in cheese. It came with tortillas, rice, lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, and beans (could have honestly done without the beans, but whatever). Look at this absolute beast of a meal. It was AMAZING. Not for a light eater, folks. I made several soft tacos out of it and left completely stuffed. But... here comes the drama. Out of all those beautiful shrimp, about 4 or 5 of them were NOT peeled. I'm sorry, but what kind of communist serves shrimp unpeeled?! Seriously, making me do manual labor for my seafood? Unbelievable. Despite the shrimp shell conspiracy, it looked great, tasted great, and made for an awesome picture. The half-pineapple is a huge flex for presentation, and I love pineapple. The prices weren't bad at all, either. You can see on the receipt in that this massive dish was only $22. For the sheer amount of food you get, I didn't think that was a bad price at all in today's economy. Overall, this place is pretty much like all the other Mexican spots, but I'm giving it a solid rating just for the killer presentation of my dish. ‍‍‍‍ 4 out of 5 Bald Heads (Peel ALL the shrimp and it would have been a 5 of 5). If you're ever up in Perrysburg, stop by and give this dish a try! I'm actually quite upset about this experience. I asked the waitress, "How many tacos come with the…read morestreet tacos meal?" and she replied, "However many you want." I didn't understand what she meant because that is obviously not true, and her answer was very unclear. Based on that, I ordered two steak tacos and two al pastor tacos along with two beers. The total came to $50, which I find hard to believe. The "Street Tacos Meal" is listed as $9.99, yet for some reason, they added a $3.00 upcharge for the steak and then charged $8.50 for two additional street tacos. I thought I was ordering the meal; how did I end up spending $21.49 on four tacos with rice and beans when the advertised price was $9.99? This doesn't add up, and the staff was extremely vague when I was placing my order. While the food was okay, the al pastor was very fatty. Given the price and the lack of clarity, I won't be coming back.

I stopped in for lunch today and ordered one of the combination platters. The restaurant was clean,…read moreservice was prompt and prices were standard. When I started with the chips and salsa, I first noticed how fresh tasting the salsa was and that the chips were crisp and light. I will definitely be back and am looking forward to trying more delicious items on their menu!

The initial service was just plain odd. Apparently you're supposed to make a reservation though…read morethat wasn't clear. Ran out of water no refills x2. Waited 35 minutes for food. Others sat down and ate right away. Odd. Chips and salsa were oily and rather tasteless. No refills on chips and salsa. Who does that?! Cheap owners. Food took 35 minutes and was frankly disgusting visually. Drenched in excessive oil. Cooked at too low of a temp. Clearly! Disgusting. The puff taco for $7.50 was a joke. Slightly puffy. No different than a taco half that price. No crunch, WAY too much oil again. No flavor. Tacos and enchiladas were also FAR too oily to enjoy. Again. Basically zero follow up service. I had to ask for a bill after waiting 15 minutes and was looked at like I was an idiot for doing so. This place was at best a dim flickering light of what it used to be. Not an enjoyable dinner or food.
