3.5-ish For starters, the name of this restaurant (according…read moreto its own sign) is Taqueria Carnales, not Carnales Taqueria (as listed on Yelp). Anyway, this is a place for people who enjoy highly flavored and spicy food. Seriously, ask them to go easy on the jalapenos if you aren't up for spicy. I ordered everything as is for my first visit for takeout and enjoyed it but it was on the edge of too spicy for me, (chicken grande burrito) without actually crossing the line.Very much crossed the line with the shrimp tacos, imo. I ordered the following: Menudo Soup (made from cow's stomach); Shrimp Tacos and a Chicken Burrito Grande. The estimated prep time was 15 minutes and the food was ready on time. It's a cute, small restaurant that is very clean. While you could choose to dine in, I didn't see anyone eating there and it appears that most of their business is carryout. Upon arriving home, I found that the Menudo Soup had spilled inside the plastic bag. Not too big a deal. The other entrees were packed in styrofoam containers. The burrito was wrapped in paper and foil. My mom had the Menudo Soup and said it was good. She had one of the three shrimp tacos and said it was okay but that she wouldn't crave them. The avocado slices looked very fresh. My mom loves spicy food but she commented that the soup and tacos were very spicy. As for my chicken burrito, it was unexpectedly spicy in a mostly good way. The burrito was stuffed with everything inside - guacamole, rice, chicken, refried beans (very little), cheese and jalapeno peppers. It was a delicious combo but I would have preferred the individual ingredients to be separate. The biggest problem, however, was that the foil wrap made it difficult to cut into the burrito without also cutting into the foil. I think it's more of a "me" issue that might not bother anyone else. Overall, I would order from this restaurant again. The quality is definitely way above Taco Bell, but it's not quite fast food even though it's next to a Subway. Also, I asked if their refried beans were made with lard and I was assured they were vegetarian. If I hadn't seen so many positive reviews on Yelp, I wouldn't have known to check out this spot, but would encourage you to try it too for high quality, authentic Mexican cuisine! EDIT/UPDATE: I tried one of the shrimp tacos that my mom left in the fridge. OMG, it was super spicy to the point of giving me hiccups. Plus, the spiciness seemed to come from a creamy cheese sauce added to the shrimp tacos after they were cooked. I can understand why my mom wouldn't crave them and I would never order them myself. Based on your personal preference for spiciness, let this give you an idea of the level of spiciness that could be added to your food unless you request your dish to be less spicy. Recommend with caveat re spiciness.

I got a big order of rice, beans, tortillas, chips and salsa, and some guac. Boring, I know, but I like to make my own mini tacos. The flavors were on point, especially the beans and the salsa. My one small gripe was that I had to pay for the chips and salsa, while my mom's partner who spent about the same amount on his burrito, got them for free. Might have just been a mistake but I thought it was odd. The entrance was through a small market which was interesting. It was a surprise when I got to the dining area and the ceiling opened up into a much larger space complete with gorgeous murals. Would be happy to return if I'm in the area again.

Restaurant service is always very good, even when it is packed wall-to-wall with people. Every staff member I have interacted with has been very friendly and knowledgeable of menu selections. The murals painted on the walls, ceiling, and air ducts are amazing - all done by a local artist. Other decor nicely accentuates the murals perfectly. Prices are quite reasonable for food quality and portion sizes. San Marcos also has outdoor seating available. In my opinion, San Marcos on Broadway is hands down the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Toledo.

They had religious Catholic images on the walls, cultural murals and paintings, and a whole Mexican snack station with candies and chips! The cashier was SO FRIENDLY!! I actually came two nights in a row (I was staying at a hotel 2 min away on a work trip so why not return? It was delicious and affordable!) and she remembered me the second night! She asked what I wanted and I had not a clue- she offered to help me decide! "Tell me what you're in the mood for and I can help!" Love workers like this!!! They know their menu better than us so I always let them tell me what to get! I got one of their combos: 2 traditional tacos with onion and cilantro, with rice and beans for $10! The next night, I got the same combo, add a birria ramen and the MEAT!!!! The meat it came with was SO SO SO GOOD and tender! It all fell apart once my fork hit it, it was cooked to perfection! Wish I got a picture of it. The birria ramen was a cup of noodles with some birria meat added, and it was $3.99 for the small! If you like affordable, authentic Mexican food, make sure you stop here!!! They have the friendliest service and best tasting food.

Had a strawberry margarita that the bartender went around the rear of the bar to make. Weird but it tasted pretty good. The bartenders/servers were all friendly but not especially helpful. Just kept saying everything is good. Everything is good. Went basic n got small queso and a chicken quesadilla. My girl got a fajita, tamale, n rice n beans. Pretty good chips for the queso. Quesadilla was ok. My girl raved over the tamales n she even ordered a few to go. So ordered another round while we wait. Now this margarita tasted like straight margarita mix. Yuck. I was straight sober after 2. Later that evening my girl texts me she been on the toilet all evening. Change of shift comes and the bartenders mention happy hr. No mention of this when we arrived or anything. I didn't see anything on the menu about it or their website. I didn't order anything else at that point. New bartender that comes in around 3, not so friendly and puts reserved signs at the bar to save seats for her girls. Never seen this at a Mexican restaurant before but whatever. She seemed to go out of her way to NOT be friendly. Counted as a one off til I went back a few more times. Same bartender complaining about folks coming in an hour before closing, still unfriendly. Still for me, the food is just eh. Maybe its just the chicken that's not great because my man came n enjoyed some quesabirria tacos while I picked at a chicken taco. Don't recommend the margarita unless u pay extra for freshly made or better yet wait for Fronteras Mexican restaurant to open back up. I like friendly bartenders n good chicken. Average here.

I've sat at the bar and gotten tables and the service has been good and the food comes out fast. I would suggest order appetizer and drink and then wait a bit to order your entree or everything pretty much comes out at once. It has like a Day of the Dead atmosphere which I personally don't like but they also have live music during happy hour which is like four to six but the band usually goes til about 7:00. Much of the music that I heard is not Mexican but more pop rock and that kind of thing. I like that the appetizer size items are big enough for me to have as an entree without spending entree type money. I think that the grilled chicken and seafood items are very good. My man always orders something different(check my pics) and he really likes the rice and beans as well as the steak items and shrimp. The beverages are about the same as every other location with margaritas cheap wine and Mexican beer. I wouldn't come here just for drinks but for the food and service it is definitely worth checking out.
