While in Anaheim, I was thrilled to discover that The Taco Stand--our beloved gem from La Jolla--had set up shop here. Unfortunately, the magic didn't make the move. The Anaheim location felt like the off-brand sequel to a cult classic: same name, none of the charm. The space was noticeably unkempt, tables strewn with the remnants of previous guests' meals. We played musical chairs trying to find one that wasn't sticky or stacked with trays. The staff seemed overwhelmed or perhaps freshly minted--either way, the ordering process was an exercise in patience. And then came the burritos: we ordered three carne asada, yet each arrived looking like a different species of wrap. Inconsistency was the only thing they had in common. In short, if you're a fan of the original, proceed with caution. This Taco Stand felt more like a taco stumble. read more

I grabbed lunch with my wife at the Taco Stand in Old Town Orange on Christmas Eve. While the building wasn't large, there was a variety of seating - a few small tables, countertop with high seats, and a long table in the center of the building that was suited for big parties of 10 or more. I got a carne asada burrito, a baja taco, carne asada fries, and their corn on the cob. They were out of cotija cheese for the corn on the cob but I don't think it impacted the experience too much. Standout items were definitely the carne asada fries. The guacamole was fresh and the fries were crisp on the outside and flakey potato on the inside. The carne asada burrito was stuffed with big chunks of steak and I also got a large piece of fried tilapia for the baja taco. Overall, I enjoyed my experience of the Taco Stand. It's definitely a casual hangout spot with friends. I would definitely do the fries again and maybe try the California burrito or some more tacos and the salsa bar. read more

This past Friday I had family visiting from out of state and they were craving some good tacos, so I brought them to The Taco Stand. As usual, the line was out the door and the dinning room was packed. Ernesto was taking orders in a friendly and efficient manner, so the line moved at a good pace. There were four of us in my party so we ordered a good amount of food: tacos al pastor, Baja taco, camaron taco, Mar y Tierra Taco, Sonora Taco, carne asada burrito, carne asada fries, and two orders of churros. Though it was a bit of a wait, it was totally worth it. The food was fresh, hot, flavorful, and filling. Everyone enjoyed every bite, and the churros are some of the best around. This is definitely one of my top places to visit. read more

The meat was delicious and juicy. The fries had the standard Taco Standard crunch that I've grown quite fond of. The major disappointment came with the tortillas. I always enjoyed the fresh and pillowy homemade tortillas made at the SD locations, and was disappointed when my tacos at this location had a cold and rough tortilla. If you want consistently delicious tacos to hit the spot this is the place! My fiancé and I come here after every beach day. First visited the Laguna location, and we were not disappointed visiting the orange location. We park in the structure just down the street and walk over, no need to circle the area to find parking. It is almost always busy when we visit in the afternoons, so the tables might be a little dirty. There are only about 4 tables and some bar stool seating so it may be hard to find a place to sit when it's busy. I recommend the baja tacos, the asada, and the California burrito. The guac is good but they recently switched their chips so we don't order it as much. The decor of the place is pretty laid back and definitely gave the vibe of taco places I've been to in Mexico! read more

I love flour tortilla so the Sonora was perfect. It was thin but held the contents of the taco just enough, and comes with guacamole. Al pastor taco, even though corn, was also very solid. The Mar Y Tierra fries were delicious too! But honestly I've had a lot of fries lately, so I got sick of it pretty quickly. But really I kinda wanted them so that I could try their shrimp, which was cooked and seasoned well. I was hoping they were going to be more like skinny McDonalds fries. Probably would have been able to finish the food if they were. These fries were a little too airy and starchy. I didn't realize this location was right by some bars and stuff, so seating was very cramped and it was filled with a bunch of bar-goers. Seating is limited, so a lot of people were standing around waiting for tables to open up. We ordered a variety of tacos, and the standouts for me were the al pastor, grilled fish, and spicy shrimp. I love that the tacos come loaded with onions, cilantro, and guacamole. The fish ones are topped with cabbage and avocado. I tried the shrimp, steak, fish, chicken, and al pastor... and I would have to say their steak and shrimp are the best they have to offer (specifically the Sonora taco for steak if you want a little more than just the standard steak taco). The staff was backed up with a bunch of orders on a busy Saturday evening but was still friendly to everyone who was getting impatient, so props to them, and the inside has a nice vibe to it. They had a nice crunch on the outside with a soft on the inside and the little dipping sauce was really good. The tacos were a decent size, nice and filling. WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. Look SoCal obviously isnt a stranger to taco spots- the competition is heavy. This place- blew me away! I had the Baja taco- a MUST order. The fish has just the right amount fried of batter. Nice and crispy! The sauce was flavorful and the cabbage has just the right crunch. Another must order is the mar y tierra fries. The shrimp and carne asada could stand alone and your tastebuds would be so satisfied. Now add guacamole, sour cream, & melted cheese over some fries and BAM you're are sent to another world. I also ordered the carne asada taco was a good choice as well. The meat was tender and juicy, and they do not skip out on the aguacate- Chipotle could never!! We also had the elote which comes with parmesan cheese and chili powder . My take is that the chile made it too tangy, so next time, I would just do the mayo and cheese. It was also the juiciest corn I've had. I believe I used 5 napkins just for the corn alone. The last thing we ordered were the churros. Let me tell you something- I compare all churros to Disneyland churros. This is the first time I can say I've had churros better than Disney. AND it's $4 for 3, and while yes, they are smaller in size, but if you were to lay them into a single file line they would be longer than the Disney ones. ANYWAY they were perfection- soft and hot in the middle and crunchy on the outside plus a side of La Lechera condensed milk= chefs kiss!
