Clean, friendly, eclectic. I'm in town on vacation and stopped by on a recommendation. The gentleman up front was very friendly and helpful. We bought a bag of crostini, a bag of spicy pretzel sticks, some herb and garlic goat cheese and not your mamas tuna salad to take back to the rental house. OMG the tuna salad was everything I was hoping for. It brought me back to the Mediterranean/Israel, but with southern charm. The crostini was perfect and the goat cheese excellent. If you are a garlic lover you will be able to kill a vampire by just breathing on them after eating this spread. The pretzel sticks have a nice little kick but are not too spicy. I hope we get to try more food here before our vacation is over. Their menu looks divine! They have fresh bagels and stuffed breads which I would love to try. read more

I don't have the words to tell you how AMAZING this place is. We were driving past the town of Marshall and decided at the last minute to turn around and grab lunch there. Looking at the reviews helped us decide on this place. It's an absolute GEM! The food was amazing. The chef/owner makes everything from scratch and it shows. We had some potato dill soup and tomato soup to start and the Kitchen Sink pizza to eat. We were insanely full and couldn't finish it all, but still grabbed desserts to go. I had the caramel walnut bar and my husband had the cinnamon roll (that had a surprising hint of orange) and they were worth every single calorie. We will go back to this town just to eat here again. So we went in for lunch today after waiting nearly a year since my last visit. I had been looking forward to this for a long time and was not disappointed at all. I went with my family today. I got the Redonkulous Reuben, my wife got the Cluck Madame, and my kids got Grilled Cheese sandwiches. Everything was freshly made, including the bread. The food exceeded expectations and was so delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was just as good and Chef Holly is amazing at what she does. Phenomenal! My mom is from Marshall so, we get there often to visit my grandma. I'm so glad I found this place. What a treasure. Great atmosphere, service & beyond delicious food. I had the huge crab cake with a cup of the poblano pepper clam chowder...DELICIOUS. They have a very small, yet quality beer selection. Wow. Just wow. We rented a cabin in Marshall for the weekend and had the pleasure of being in walking distance of the Sweet Monkey Cafe. The women that were working were very welcoming. I would be there everyday if I lived in Marshall. . I will never look at another shrimp or grit the same way after I had brunch here over the weekend. It was amazing. It was made with local sausage, shrimp, yellow grits, tomatoes and a bunch of other awesomeness. Try it. You won't regret it. The rest of my party enjoyed their brunch just as much as I did if not more. I hear their molasses cookies are out of this world too. Sadly they were out by the time we got there. Next time. My fiance and I were staying in the mountains north of Asheville and we're blessed to find this gem. Quaint, simplistic, and hip ambiance in downtown Marshall. We had brunch on Sunday, one of the best ever. Everything was great from the coffee, to the service, to the main dishes. The shrimp and grits were perfectly done with an amazing, creamy broth complementing the authentic grits. Excellent! The brunch special was also out of this world good. Eggs, chorizo, and kale on top of cheesy jalapeno bread, prepared french toast style, with the best hollandaise sauce I've had. Highly recommend a trip to Marshall and to this standout establishment. Omg this place!!!!! It was recommended to us by our Airbnb host and I'm soooooooo glad we had the chance to eat here. Ms. Hollie West single handily cooked one of the best breakfast I've ever had. Let's say I give this a 3 1/2, only because the cook was having a cigarette break in the front screened in room when we entered. They really should cut smoking indoors. We had some OK wine, good beer and very good pizza. The pizzas were hot, with a good crust and plenty of toppings. The atmosphere is casual and they have a very cool wooden canoe hanging from the ceiling along with many other local artifacts to see. Being a pretzel fan, was hoping that maybe the restaurant might sell them, but was informed that would be a contradiction, since they are a bakery. That didn't make any sense, but so be it... Sunday Brunch consisted of just a hand-full of overpriced selections; of which nothing stood out to try. I'm a fan of everything scratch made! They have soooo good bread and French toast! I ordered mimosa for brunch! It's sooo yum! Owner is so friendly and accommodating. She keep on checking if we need anything. We were hesitant at first coz we brought our dog but they are accommodating enough that they even gave water for our puppy. Just delicious!!! We picked a random place to stop for lunch after our rafting trip in Marshall. After seeing some reviews on yelp we decided on Sweet Monkey cafe. We were staying in downtown Asheville and went to all of the top rated restaurants there but my entire family all agreed our meal here for lunch was better than ANY of our lunches and dinners in downtown Asheville. Everything here is homemade by the owner. The ground pork sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I ever tasted! The chicken sandwich was also amazing. The owner makes everything fresh daily and her own homemade bread. Wow, just WOW! My husband wanted to show me the quaint town of Marshall, NC. I loved it. :-) As we passed Sweet Monkey Cafe on the main street we decided to eat there. BEST DECISION EVER! I almost don't know where to begin. The atmosphere was so much fun. It kept a smile on my face. The waitress was fantastic and made us feel like we've been coming there for years. So friendly and funny. She put us 'first timers' at ease with her first sentence and sincere smile. And the food. OMG!! Tom had the Reuben and fantastic potato salad and it immediately reminded me of the deli sandwiches in New York City. VERY generous and delicious. They do not skimp on meat. Tom couldn't stop making yummy sounds. He said it was the best Reuben he ever ate. :-) I ate the Angus beef cheeseburger. Those words seem so 'trite'. What I ACTUALLY had was a 'food experience'. It was MORE than a cheeseburger. And it's served on bread that the wonderful chef herself makes. And what I really appreciated was that the bun never became soggy. I hate a soggy bun, and it never happened. Genius. What sorcery IS this? The taste was more than I could ever describe. Seriously. I ate all but the last bite or two, which you KNOW I brought home with me. Very HUGE burger! And the special sauce...to die for. It made the burger come alive even more. And the Cole slaw. Mercy! It is the BEST I've ever put in my mouth. No kidding, I'm still thinking of our meal. But that Cole slaw!!! The chef was so engaging and friendly. Wow. A pleasent suprise..after a pottery show near by my hubby and I were starving and explored downtown Marshall. What a suprise many awesome and eclectic bussinesses. And we happened upon this lovely litte eatery in progress. Some construction going on but looks like amazing things to come. But the food what a pleasure. I had the hilariously named ridiculous rebuen perfect bread...great pastrami and just loved the saukeraut. The side kale salad was refreshing. My hubby had the pork sandwich he devoured it commenting on the awesome blue cheese with carmelized Onion bread. Then we had the awesome bread salad which I giggled and called "carb salad".....try it!!!! My only utter of complant was lack of soda or soda like substance cause I have an issue...lol. I had the "Hot Mess" which was eggs, sausage, onions, and peppers over grits and topped with fresh avocado and a Chipotle sauce. The flavors were delicious with just the right amount of spice. A wonderful experience! As the sign says "this isn't fast food -- it's good food"... and it IS good food. Brunch on Sunday included an amazing pecan roll, delightful coffee with cream and the absolute BEST French toast I have ever eaten. The service was excellent - and the atmosphere is very enjoyable. I loved that simple menu - it made making a choice very easy. I would have given this place 5 stars, except that i think the food is too expensive (3 people- our bill was $50 for French toast & coffee.) I also think the chef & the customers would benefit from having someone helping prep/clean up. Watching the chef do all the prep work, cooking and clean up becomes a bit tedious when the restaurant is full of patrons. Even with those minor issues - Sweet Monkey is definitely a must experience restaurant! We were immediately told that two of the items on the menu (we were going to order one of them) were not available because their food delivery truck was late arriving. Not their fault. In fact the truck had just arrived and was unloading when we walked in. The menu items we did order were very good. I have to say that the waitress was not terrible but certainly less than friendly. She brought me the wrong soup. I ordered French onion and received a tomato basil (I think). It was excellent however. Due to unforeseen circumstances we arrived about 5 minutes before closing. When we asked if it were okay, the waitress was very warm and welcoming. We were promptly served our beverages and allowed to peruse the menu without feeling rushed. There is a really cool cedar strip canoe that the owner's father had built hang near the kitchen. I was told, by a NC Welcome Center person while discussing the town of Marshall, only that "there's a cafe," in a way that told me I would be able to find lunch while in town. Maybe that person has not been the the Sweet Monkey, because if she had....she would have raved and told me it was a "must do." My choice was the Ragin' Cajun blackened chicken pizza, and it was really THAT good. The owner was very nice and friendly, despite having plenty of things to her busy. We ate here yesterday for a late lunch. Nobody was eating there upon our arrival. There is not a sign to say seat yourself or order here... so we sat down at a table after I asked to see a menu. The lady that came over to our table was obviously annoyed by our sheer presence. She was short, snappy & aggravated by the questions we asked as we ordered our food. The food was delicious! The superfood salad with crab cakes were yummy.... the kids cheese pizza must have been delicious bc my daughter ate every bite!!! The food is incredible. I live in Asheville which is known for delicious food. My husband and I took a ride to the little town of Marshall. At Sweet Monkey I had the best hamburger ever-- cooked to perfection with fresh toppings. The bun was homemade as is all the bread.
