I had hairline cracks in the bottom of my Whirlpool Bath. Now, the bottom of it looks great, matches the rest, and is slip resistant. Gunnar responded quickly and even tried to get the job done before the scheduled date. Unfortunately, my schedule didn't permit it. I recently hired The Surface Doctors to resurface my kitchen countertops and kitchen backsplash. I live in a tiny condo with a galley kitchen and wanted a affordable "cosmetic" upgrade from what I have...peeling laminate counters with heat marks and a tired tile backsplash with old, cracked grout. The tech arrived about ten minutes early and was very courteous and friendly. My small dog is a yappy "pain in the arse" and he was very patient and stopped to pet and talk to her throughout his time at the house. The finished job came out lovely however I am anal retentive and extremely picky. I contacted Gunnar to address a few things I wanted to touch up and they agreed when the tech arrives in a few weeks to refinish my bathroom they will address and touch up areas of concern...again, I'm uber picky, this isn't a reflection on the company itself, I am the type of person that scrutinizes the tiniest of blemishes. Below is a before and after pic. I wanted a clean update, nothing fancy, just something durable and aesthetically appealing and I feel they nailed it! I'd definitely use them again and will be in December. SO best to write this review while the RAGE is fresh on my mind... I had an appointment with Gunner and the The Surface Doctors scheduled for today between 12-4pm. The appointment was for a chip repair in a rental unit of mine. The tech and I are in contact by phone around noon and we agree on meeting over at the unit at 2pm. I arrive at my rental unit at 145pm and as I am parking in a METERED STREET SPACE I get a call from the tech saying that he is delayed at his previous job and he will arrive instead at 3pm. Oh well... ok.. i just pull out my phone and begin the waiting game. At 250pm he calls and says he is 15-20 mins away. Of COURSE... this becomes 335 by the time he actually arrives at the address. I get yet ANOTHER call from the tech guy saying that the building has no service parking. I tell him yes.. this is CHICAGO and unfortunately free parking spaces have gone the way of the dinosaur. There ARE however TONS OF METERED spaces. I look outside the window of my building and can visually see 4-5 empty metered street parking spaces in front of the building. The tech sounds annoyed and says he will continue to "look for parking"??? I mention for MULTIPLE time effect... "park in one of the metered spaces!!!" I will pay for the damn meter... i don't care.. I have already taken off from work to meet this "technician". This is where it gets good... after 10 minutes the technician STOPS RESPONDING TO HIS CELL PHONE and i get a call from Gunner at the main office. He tells me that the "Technician" decided to LEAVE because he couldnt find parking?????????? WTH??? THIS IS CHICAGO... if you are going to do business WITHIN city limits.. EXPECT TO HAVE TO PAY STREET PARKING!! this isnt like the suburbs... CHARGE customers for the parking expense if you like or not.. that is your choice.... but dont FREAKING STAND THEM UP AFTER WAITING ALL DAY just because you cant find a free parking space and then proceed to ignore phone calls???? Gunner could have sounded ANY MORE disinterested with the fact that his "technician" blew off an appointment and then drove away without a word. His response was merely "It's been a crazy day... yea i guess he shouldnt have left" STAY AWAY FROM THE SURFACE DOCTORS... There are PLENTY OF OTHER REPUTABLE businesses on YELP and ANGIES List that deserve your time and hard earned money!! read more

We are in the process of a bathroom remodel, and decided our cast iron tub is in such good condition we'd simply have it reglazed. We are mid-remodel, which is not the recommended time to reglaze the tub, but Surface Doctors agreed to do so as our contractor is on a break from the job for the holiday week. Steve was here two days ago and did a great job and was done in just about 2 hours. The tub looks fantastic! We are to let it cure for 7 days before cleaning it, which is timely for our contractor's start date the following Monday. Thanks so much for working within our schedule and for such a great and reasonable price! Our contractor has been warned per Steve's instructions - cover it and don't mess it up! He (our contractor) plans to refer other customers of his to Surface Doctors as well. We'll update our review if there are any issues in the future, but we anticipate none! read more

I had them come out and do our bathtub with tile surround and ceiling as well as, the fiberglass shower stall in the other bathroom. They arrived on time and worked straight through until it was completed. The process took a very long time. The tech was actually here 13 hours. I felt bad for him being by himself and working so long without any breaks. Otherwise they were courteous and professional. The results are amazing. It looks like brand new. I had my bathroom re-coat 8 year ago now I am remodeling the bathroom At first we agreed on re-coat the area around the vanity and bathtub for $475 ( the 3 side walls is still very good) but the technician came and told me that there would be a different between new and old color. So I decided to do the whole bathroom for $1025. At first look he did a very UGLY job, he tried to correct them but it still UNACCEPTIBLE. My old shiny walls are rough, not shiny and there are several spots of old color. The vanity area and bathtub are even worse. I do not want to show picture because the new technician (I requested new one) came to correct the work a week later. After long talk he re-coated bathtub, vanity area and some parts of the wall AS NEEDED. he did very good job on his part, the area that he did are shiny and smooth. So it looks OK white but now I have both good smooth and shiny area mixed with bad rough and not shiny walls (he told me that he would do the whole wall but apparently he did not). The second technician asked me how many times I want him to spray my bathroom, my simple answer is just make it right one time! read more

I was visiting my old auntie out in Chicago, to help her clean up her house. One of the first things on my to do list, was fixing her expensive damaged bathtub! I called the Surface Doctors, to fix a large chip on her beautiful vintage bathing tub. The service went great! The repairman was right on time, and got the job done promptly. We even asked them to come a 2nd time for polishing & buffing, and they didn't even charge us extra! I was and am disappointed in this company. I tried to write a review a year earlier and it was not accepted. I am trying again. I had my tub, the tile around the tub and the sink resurfaced. The sink was not properly covered and the tub peeled within a couple of months. The tile is now peeling. This process was done May 19, 2015 and it was a waste of money. I recently had a plumber in and when he saw the work he said it was not done properly. He knows of another company that does this process and the end result is superior to this company. As we all know, makeover shows are immensely popular on television these days, especially when it comes to DIY and home improvement. The challenge for busy executives or homeowner's who work is entrusting your home improvement to just any contracting company. Fast-forward to my family's current situation: We purchased a "new" ranch in Lake County, circa 1968., great "bones," outstanding floor plan, all the right stuff. Except our dream home was dreadfully outdated, not uncommon but begging for attention, especially the master bath and guest bathrooms. If I could give them a review with no stars, I would do that! These are the worst tub refinishers and I am still paying for their incompetance a year after they performed their work for me. Their work was subpar leaving gauges and areas of the tub without color. There were also several areas of the tub that had very rough areas, so rough that they were actually uncomfortable to stand on when showering. I hired another company to try to repair the inept work The Surface Doctors had performed and the new company stressed how bad the previous work had been and then went into how much they were going to have to charge me to strip the previous work so they could refinish. DO NOT HIRE THESE HACKS!!! You will be paying for it for years to come. read more

The Surface Doctors did a great job refinishing our cast iron tub. Prior to refinishing, the white finish was wearing away around the drain area and there was some rust around the drain. There were also other minor imperfections/discolorations other places on the tub. Now, it looks like new! We were able to use it the next morning, and the price was reasonable.
