Nice little shop, a good variety of cheeses and meats to make a nice board. Plenty of cracker, jam and honey options. Folks were knowledgeable and friendly.

Man oh man. This is a special place. I hope it never closes. This is a true local shop that I love supporting. I don't live in the area, but I still drive over here to get my goodies. Love coming over just to get some really good parmesan. I will also travel here to make my charcuterie board. Always has knowledgeable cheese folk that give good advice. Such a gem!

My partner and I walked by this store in 2020 before they opened under new ownership, making a note that we wanted to visit at some point. We popped in on a late Saturday afternoon to check out what cheeses we could find and the shop didn't disappoint. There's a very nice, unique selection available, so after much debate, we finally decided on one to try. The staff were helpful with our entire transaction, making our cheese adventure pleasant. There's also a small variety of other goods like bread, crackers, jams, etc. This would be a fantastic place to stop if you're visiting people and want to bring something a little different.

    Great selection of cheeses.

Tucked in between all the eateries on "restaurant row" on Union Pl, is a little gem with European flair. Clean, cozy, and quaint. It has an extensive and exquisite selection of European, American, and even NJ local artisanal cheeses. Prices rage around $20-25 per Lb, but some are even more pricey. We picked up a 1/3lb 'Brie Fermier', and a 1/3lb 'Roomano 4 year go', as well as a fresh baguette for a total of $18.50. Can't wait to try!!! Mmmm... The boutique also carries meats in the back. Saw some prosciutto, speck, salami... chorizo, pate, and probably more. If you are a fan of good cheese, this a spot worth a visit.

Darn good, pricey but quality cheese always is, no? I do miss Paul and Pam, but it's nice to have a local cheesemonger next town over.

For $125/person, I had expected better tasting food though. The small appetizers (spinach salad, prosciutto, Parmesan, olives) may have been put together from a grocery store. For the pasta that we rolled out, the staff only added a plain tomato sauce. The side of vegetables was overcooked and mushy. Tiramisu was all right. We can blame the taste and texture of the pasta on ourselves, because we made it, but I had expected the rest of the food prepared by professionals to be better. No drinks were included -- Healthy Italia is BYOB. There was a nice intro video from the owner telling us about her history and philosophy. She said that she doesn't measure ingredients, and only mixes by feel. How does one teach a cooking class like this? If someone is taking a cooking class, they are less experienced and need precise measurements and instructions. Our flour and water were measured for us, so I guess they do measure something. We were never told the measurements, so didn't have any recipe or any specific learnings to take home. I enjoyed the social time with my group, and especially the long table set out for our group in true Italian fashion. It made us feel like a big cohesive family. However, for $125/person, I felt like we could have had a true learning experience elsewhere or had a much better Italian dinner at a restaurant with drinks. In fact, on the subsequent evening, a few individuals from our group went to a restaurant and ordered similar items served at this cooking class, and the food was remarkably better. And yes, it was less than $125/person with drinks.

Sort of a light, fluffy dough, but crispy? Not thick like a focaccia or heavy like Sicilian, but also, not unlike those two? It's not New York Style. My sister-in-law loves to get their salad with grilled chicken. They give you a lot of chicken (this is takeout, we do both). It's nicely grilled and seasoned. I got the linguini Alfredo because they have that big wheel of cheese, and I think they make it in the wheel? Again, this was takeout. Not my favorite thing I've ordered there. But again, it's a pizza place, get pizza. The staff is really nice. I mean it's young people (I'm very old), like college age, which in my opinion can be hit or miss. You know they like to make those TikTok dances. That's all they care about. But these kids are uniformly friendly and customer-focused. Nice kids. And the place is cute inside.

I asked if they had more cheese coming out and they showed me the full tray of cheese and said they had some. I asked for a fresh slice but instead they went for the lone dried one under the glass. When I asked if I could get a fresh slice another employee came up to me and said I couldn't and that the batch of pies on the racks behind all came out at the same time a while ago. Huh? I asked again if I could simply get a fresh one from the trays behind him and was told no. Weird flex but okay -wow. I said no thanks and simply went to pay for a water bottle for my son. The manager asked if he was ringing me up for a water and a slice to which I replied "No they refused to serve me a fresh slice"- thinking he would have a focus on customer service and even remedy this. Nope. Just replied with "So just the water then?" Disappointing. There was no line, no rush. Any decent slice shop will proactively tell you to wait a few min for a fresh pie but this place didn't seem to care even when asked. Sadly, I have been here before and enjoyed the slices but we won't be returning any more. Save your money for a place that actually values customers.

At nine inches it hit the spot. ;) In fact, it's big enough for two, and perfect as is. With a great balance of vinegar and cheese and a dusting of parm, it had that classic flavor you can't fake. If this sandwich ran for governor, it would win. We also tried a couple of their Sfogliatelle. It was flaky, crisp, filled, and way bigger than expected. My whole family enjoyed them so next time I'm getting four. A real neighborhood gem! NOTES/TIPS: **Family-run, fast service, solid food. Recently I made it a point to visit to pick up a sandwich for lunch and I'm really glad I did! Al's is very clean and welcoming. When you walk in the cashier counter is to the left, set at a right angle to that is the deli counter where sandwiches are assembled. The menu is mounted on the wall towards the back. To the right is a seating area. Across from the cashier is a fridge with various pasta dishes ready to heat up and eat along with some baked goods and lots of different kinds of chips to go with your sammich. I wound up ordering the Red & White Russian which includes Roast Beef, Turkey, Swiss, Horseradish, Deli Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato & Onion. You can have it pressed by request but I did not do so. I also ordered a side order of macaroni salad. The Red & White Russian was really good! The size was perfect and the bread was soft and chewy. There was a good amount of meat and cheese and I really liked the mustard and horseradish flavors. The macaroni salad was great. I would definitely get both of these again! I'm glad I made it a point to stop at Al's and I plan to do so again in the future!
