I go to Mia Familia deli every day. I don't understand why people in Millburn go to the other very crowded very average deli when Mia Familia is an Italian experience. Found this little gem today. Ordered the potato frittata, rice pudding, hand made "mozz" and the jerz. Everything was delicious. Reminded me of my Grandma's breakfasts. Pancetta, mozzarella & eggs on a roll. Made fresh in this tiny store crammed with Italian goodies. Every single person in the store made me feel like a lifelong customer. The warmth was genuine and heartfelt. Italian music playing was quite pleasant. While I waited for the sandwiches I began buying more. Sun dried tomatoes in olive oil were mouth watering. The Semolina bread was indeed the best in New Jersey. The smoked mozzarella cheese was fantastic. The piece de resistance was the white Italian figs. So superior to any fig I've ever had. Everything in this store looked amazing. I will be coming back again to try their lunch sandwiches and so much more. Located near the Millburn Shop Rite this is a must visit for sure. What a treat! Came in to pick up some prepared foods for dinner and every single thing was outstanding. - chicken cutlets were incredibly moist and perfectly flavored. Breading was not too thick (tasted more like a dusting) and was sprinkled with fresh herbs - delicious meatballs (both meat and vegetarian version made with eggplant) - caponata (apparently one of their best sellers). So much to the flavor - tang of green olives, richness of oil and eggplant, sweetness of tomatoes And the owners could not have been kinder. This is one of the best Italian delis in all of New Jersey. I've tried most! The other day I tried their polpette di melanzane and it was life changing. It's essentially an eggplant meatball! I made my red sauce and crumbled the eggplant in and it tastes just like a bolognese!!! You can't even tell it's eggplant! It's my last weekend in New Jersey and this was a great last dish to enjoy! Horrible people, who likely won't even care about this post. I went there to buy two large tins of Ricotta for my family and was berated by an older gentleman and woman, in front of everyone in the store for not ordering it ahead of time. I was so embarrassed that I lied and said I was from out of town just to get them to stop being so condescending and rude. I tried to explain that we actually called in the morning to make sure they had everything and to make sure it was ok, and the woman told us to come in. Once I visited, I was excited to see the store and wanted to buy other items, but after being treated like dirt, I decided to just get what I was there for and swear to never come back. The young gentleman that helped me in the beginning was nice. They didn't want to listen and then proceeded to say at the end of my order, "next time, you know when Easter is, order ahead." I told them I will never be back and will go elsewhere from now on. There are certainly better, and less expensive options. I'd rather get food from Shoprite than visit this place again. it's sad to be treated like this from a local store and I have now made it well known throughout my business and we will not be placing any more orders or patronizing this place any longer. Millburn Deli is a better option for sandwiches anyway. An apology can certainly change my mind, but judging from how horrible I was treated I certainly doubt that will be received. Just read other reviews of how horrible these people can be. read more
