I can't even eat what I just spent $30 on. The salmon bento box is absolutely disgusting. The Chinese vegetables has no broccoli in it and is basically peppers for $10. The salmon though.....I'm at a loss how a restaurant could give this to a customer

Bought fried chicken wings and it was spoiled, I think the wings went bad, the veggie dumplings were also awful, worst Chinese food I have EVER had.... I wouldn't recommend it

I had a delivery order from here with my coworkers. I cringed at the decision, because I know establishments like this are Jack of all Asian food but master of none. I figured I order a Chinese dish since they are Chinese owned and how badly can they screw that up? To answer my own question, the food here is nothing special, even the Chinese food. I had a beef chow fun and it was mushy and salty, and the beef was dry. A friend ordered szechuan beef and it was also dry and not even spicy. The curry puff was described as hard and cold, while the thai ice tea was too sweet. It's amazing that there are multiple Sultan's wok in the area. I wouldn't get takeout if I lived near one.

Only ordered for delivery from here once, probably won't again. Got the crab rangoons which were good but this review is mainly reflective of the sushi. The sushi smelled badly of fish/seaweed as soon as I opened the container (more than sushi should). I got the Hot Lover roll which is pretty mediocre and supposed to come with a special sauce which is apparently just spicy mayo with a drop of sriracha in it. Literally a drop on the top of the mayo. The fish doesn't taste fresh and half of it is rice - definitely not worth the $14 dollars I paid for it. Pretty disappointed. If you're in the area I recommend picking up from Kickys (on Doordash with a $5 delivery fee). I should've ordered from there and drove to pick it up because now I am sad

In a culinary landscape where great sushi is so often confined to coastal capitals and…read moreexpense-account zip codes, it is genuinely startling to encounter something this accomplished in Matawan. I have eaten sushi at Sugarfish in Manhattan and at Jade in Beverly Hills--two benchmarks for quality and consistency--and I can say without hesitation that this experience surpasses Sugarfish and stands shoulder to shoulder with Jade at roughly a third of the price. With sushi, the truth is unavoidable: three-quarters of the experience is determined long before the knife ever touches the fish. It lives in the discipline of daily market sourcing, in restraint, in knowing when not to interfere. Here, that philosophy is not only understood but executed with confidence. The fish is pristine, the rice balanced and restrained, the flavors allowed to speak without excess. What makes this place remarkable is not merely its technical proficiency, but its ambition. This is not "good for New Jersey" sushi; it is simply excellent sushi, full stop--an experience that would feel entirely at home in Manhattan, Los Angeles, or Tokyo. I gladly made the trip from Montclair, and I will gladly make it again. This is the rare kind of restaurant that recalibrates expectations, proving that greatness does not require a skyline--only rigor, taste, and respect for the craft.

Our server/service was excellent overall and food came out very fast despite the restaurant slowly filling up! We started off with the mentai potato, zaru soba, and tempura appetizers and those were the stars tonight. The mentai potato were steak fries with a mentaiko and wasabi dipping sauces. Fries were large, crispy and perfectly saulted. The zaru soba was also a nice find! We usually have go to NYC for it so it was a nice surprise. Pro tip, add wasabi to the sauce to mellow out the saltiness. We ordered a few rolls, a sushi dinner and some uni. Unfortunately the uni didn't seem as fresh as we had hoped and had a very overwhelming ocean taste to it. The rice on the rolls and sushi also were a bit mushy as if the rice wasn't cooked enough or too much rice vinegar was used. We also ordered a white christmas roll expecting seared white tuna, but it wasn't seared. Fish quality was ok overall. Overall, the experience was fine and we would love to try some more of the hot food. We really loved the apps but were a little disappointed tonight with the sushi. We'd come back soley for the apps!

Good selection of hot food too. The service was quite slow even though the restaurant was empty. It took a while for the sushi to arrive, and by that time, we started feeling full from the appetizers. We knew we were not going to get our money's worth tonight. Towards the end of our meal, we started smelling a poopy stench in the air - yes you heard me, POOPY! It made me completely lose my appetite. I'm so done with sushi buffets...never again :(

The menu was a mix of Japanese and Chinese dishes. Unfortunately they missed the mark on both. At some point, halfway through the meal I thought to myself, wow these flavors are way off, do they even know how to cook or know the flavors that the customers are looking for. (Why would you put wasabi in the bbq squid that comes with teriyaki sauce), to order hibachi you need to order everything separately. The service was kind and attentive but very disorganized even though it was only 2 tables being served. Do NOT order the all-you- can-eat, waste of money, too expensive for the quality and flavor combinations. Only get it if you just want to shovel food down your gastronomical hole. Hate doing poor reviews!!! This is only meant for the owners/managers to take note and fix it all, and create value for the customer.

We came here with a Saturday night reservation for the Kotobuki Omakase option. I love the simple atmosphere and decor, it is relaxing, bright and very authentically Japanese. There wasn't a single thing that wasn't delicious in its own way. This place is small and intimate with only 8 sushi bar seats and 8 table seats. A great vibe and ambiance to watch your sushi chef expertly prepare your meal. Unfortunately, a couple decided to bring their small children that were talking very loudly and had occasional screams. There is a place and time to bring your kids dining and fine dining isn't one of them. Our favorite appetizer was the chanwanmushi! They packed so much umami into such a small dish and the texture of the egg was like silken tofu. My husbands favorite piece of nigiri was the otoro as the tuna was so fatty and just melted in your mouth. Mine was the uni spoon which was a small dish of uni, ikura, caviar, and rice. The hand rolls were a highlight too! After the 6 courses are done you're able to order ala carte and I'm so glad I got an ikura hand roll. Service is impeccable and everyone was very kind and thoughtful. Overall a great experience and an omakase spot we would come back to.

This brand-new spot on Forest Avenue is a sleek, modern izakaya that feels like it was plucked straight from Tokyo and dropped into the heart of the borough. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is electric--warm wood tones, soft lighting, and a lively open kitchen where the chefs are slicing fish with samurai-level precision. I started with the Hamachi Carpaccio, drizzled in yuzu-truffle ponzu and topped with microgreens and crispy garlic chips. Each bite was a perfect balance of buttery yellowtail and bright citrus pop. The sushi omakase (chef's choice) was the star of the night. Standouts included: Bluefin Otoro so melt-in-your-mouth rich I almost cried. Uni from Hokkaido--creamy, briny, and served at the perfect chill. A live scallop nigiri still twitching on the rice (yes, that fresh). But Oishi isn't just raw fish heaven. The izakaya side shines with small plates like Wagyu Beef Skewers glazed in a sticky-sweet tare, and Truffle Miso Black Cod that flakes apart like edible art. Even the vegan options (grilled king oyster mushroom "scallops") had my plant-based friend raving. Cocktail game? Chef's kiss. The Yuzu Gin Fizz with shiso leaf garnish is dangerously drinkable, and the sake list has gems you won't find at your average spot. Service was attentive but never hovering--our server even explained the difference between akami and chutoro without making us feel like amateurs. Prices are fair for the quality (omakase ~$85, rolls $14-$18), and portions are generous. They're still in soft-open mode, but you'd never know it--everything ran like clockwork. Staten Island, we don't deserve this place... but I'll be back weekly anyway. Oishi is officially my new favorite restaurant on the island. Run, don't walk.
