Really can't go wrong with any option, and you can customize most of the stuff to your preferences. If you want a quick, filling breakfast, the skillets and waffles are ready almost instantaneously. The staff is also super friendly and the entire place is super nice for studying, with quiet rooms if you need. They serve a variety of food, ranging from sandwiches, bagels, croissants, and waffles. There are a lot of students waiting for their food but my order came out in around 5-10 minutes. The pizzas here don't taste very good though. It's also a nice place to study since it's right next to the dorms on campus and there is a quiet room to do your work in. I'm a UCLA student so I have a bit of a bias here. I love the sandwiches, pizzas and salads at the study. However, I will say the coffee and drinks are pretty terrible :/ Great place to study, though. This is one of my top places to come and really really get work done. There's this room we students call "the fishbowl" where its quiet and all the seats are super comfy. There are also some private study rooms, but you have to reserve them, otherwise you'll probably get kicked out. Overall, I like coming here. The one thing that really sucks though is the wait to get food can be super long if you come for dinner. Like 30 minutes sometimes if it's really busy. read more

We decided to eat but it was late at night and there aren't that many places open on campus, so we went to The Study at Hedrick. When we finally sat down I opened my sandwich and it smelled really good but unfortunately they did mess up my order and they also messed up my friends order. It was a little disappointing but I can't complain cuz I didn't pay for it. I think what really topped it off was when some guy sat in between me and my friend and was listening to our conversation, and then got up and left when it was starting to get boring. Just stopping by real quick to say that this establishment is home to the worst nitro cold brew I've ever had lolol. Every sip had me gagging, and I like black coffee usually. Also the almond croissant it came with, though pretty, was basically a tough brioche like the ones at kerchkoff when unheated. If you're looking for a cold refreshing coffee, get *any other iced coffee drink on the menu* than the nitro ( also note: doesn't come with ice by default!) Otherwise, great well maintained space! Can get crowded but plenty of seats and outlets and a variety of study environments depending on your mood. Plus, a nice man named Saul let me replace the nitro with an iced americano. read more

Darn I was hoping to be the first to review Hedrick Study Lounge haha. I may not be the first but close enough. When Hedrick Study Lounge opened up, I was really glad to be living on the hill as a third year. This place will definitely make you feel spoiled and even a little out of place - in a good way. You'll turn in circles just trying to absorb everything in from the gorgeous 360 glass fireplace to the open bakery. There are definitely food items worth a swipe and not even close for others. As a huge baker and sweet person, I recommend the triple chocolate mousse verrine - white chocolate layered on milk chocolate layered on dark chocolate. It's smooth, decadent without being overwhelming, and more than satisfying. The teas are also good and I've heard great things about their sandwiches and horrendous things about the side salads. I wouldn't come here if you're looking for a meal, but it's definitely a great option for people to use those extra swipes. read more

The Study is a great place to, well, study, but also grab a bite to eat at many hours of the day. With regards to studying, there are many different options as to your environment: collaboration rooms with a whiteboard wall allows for groups, a glass area in the center houses rows of tables with plugs and lamps at each, taller tables with high chairs (which before, had no chairs at all and so very few students used them), a quiet room with low blue lighting for those that prefer near silence, and various casual seating throughout at which one can easily access, with many of them being directly adjacent to wide glass windows. I prefer the glass center room, but to each their own, and I definitely do appreciate the variety of study spaces As for the food, the selections are much more varied than most to-go spots on campus. With its wide variety of food across different times of day, there is always something new to try. There is a juice bar that serves both kombucha and other cold drinks, such as nitro brew teas, although I've never tried them. There's also a pastry bar that also serves hot drinks: I often grab a croissant or a bagel and cream cheese alongside a large hot chocolate. There is a wide selection of refrigerated drinks as well as pre-prepared meals and salads, as well as snacks and even a loaf of bread one can grab for one swipe. However, the highlight of the study in my opinion are their customizable sandwiches, pizzas, and bagels. The wide selection of fresh toppings (such as ricotta cheese for pizzas, fresh mozzarella for sandwiches, and smoked salmon for bagels!) allows for the customer to truly choose what they want to eat. The customer service is good, and the food comes fairly quick. Overall, I highly recommend this place to those willing to make the trek up the hill. Ah, the new kid in the neighborhood, the Study at Hedrick. While named "Study" at Hedrick, I never find myself studying here due to overpopulation of students in the common area. However, I do get food here, especially when I have weird class schedules which start too late for breakfast but too early for lunch. The smoked salmon bagel (build your own bagel) is my breakfast favorite and I usually get this most of the time. I also greatly enjoy the build your own pizza. Now that I have tried other wood fired pizzas around LA, I don't think the quality here is as good, but it is very very comparable to the restaurants. read more

Personally, I like getting a personal pizza with salmon, pesto, gouda cheese, and onions for toppings. It blows my mind that this is a college dining commons. The food here is actually really good, and it comes out pretty quickly. There are an almost overwhelming amount of options to choose from. Even the fountain drinks can be customized with different flavors. Note they also have a separate section dedicated to customizing your own drinks like teas with flavors like elderberry and prickly pear. The service here is also notable. My friend had dropped her pizza, and they insisted on making her a new one. Honestly great. There are a variety of study spaces too (more customizability!!!). There are private study rooms, cafe like tables, chill lounge chairs, and even a room with blue light. Oh, and there are outlets galore. Great place to get work done, however finding an open desk during midterms season (which seems like every week) can sometimes be a pain. My go-to meal is the build your own sandwiches. Everything is really high quality and actually quite filling. However, since this is a popular spot and sometimes the only place open - the lines can get quite outrageous. If you're in a rush, never get the pizza. While it may be delicious - it takes pretty long to make and they are simply too small. It consistently takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to get a sandwich with no clear method of ensuring that orders go out in order. As well as taking way too long for a sandwich, the orders are often made incorrectly and carelessly,making them difficult to eat. When the food is made right, I really enjoy The Study. However, any bad experience I have completely overshadows the good. The first time I entered The Study at Hedrick, my first thought was, "Why didn't they have this place when I was a student at UCLA?" After my initial saltiness subsided, I walked through the entire place to get a feel for what it is. Sidebar--I'm on staff at UCLA so I was visiting in both a curious and official capacity. Wow. Two thumbs up from me. There are spaces for quiet studying (glass-enclosed smaller rooms and one larger room in the middle); a rectangular fire place with seating all the way around it; high tops for students who prefer to stand rather than sit while they work; and ample seating along one side next to large windows that allow in lots of natural light. I didn't even mention what I like to call the "blue room"...a study room that has to be one of the most serene places on campus. The ceiling is dotted with what appear to be stars. The blue lighting gives off an almost galactic-looking, glow in the dark vibe. When I first saw the room, I thought to myself, "Please don't take this super cool space for granted, Bruins of today. I've been on many college campuses and I've never seen anything like this." I must find a reason to have to study in the blue room. And no, going back to school for another degree isn't an option. Maybe that would be a good place to read next year's Common Book... The study area is situated next to a quick serve food space. There are European pastries (apricot financier, anyone?), kombucha, coffee drinks, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and an assortment of crepes, bread puddings, and belgian waffles. You can actually see the pastry chefs making the bread through this large window. Pretty cool if you're a bread afficionado. They also have pre-packaged meals that you can grab. So I came to this new dining-hall-turned-study-lounge for the first time this quarter, and all I could think of to say was "wow" over and over. Upon entry, customers (UCLA students that live in the dormitories and associated swipe moochers like myself) are greeted by some somewhat classy typewriters and a large table resembling a tree trunk covered with glass. Do these serve any utilitarian purpose? Not really. It seems that their only purpose is to cause people to gawk at them about one time and subsequently wonder where their tuition money has been going for the last couple of years. About half of The Study is dedicated to studying, appearing like a library with well-illuminated desks, power outlets, and even USB ports to charge mobile devices. However, the noise level inside can often make one wonder whether students actually use the Study to study. Through some doors to the right of the entrance is the café, where they serve cold brew coffee, pastries, and so forth. Pretty standard stuff for people needing to stay up through the night. The pastries are tasty, which was both pleasant and surprising because I had thought that the food would fail to live up to the excessive decor for a dining hall. Later in the day, I showed my mother some pictures of the new dining hall / study lounge, to which she replied with only three words: "tuition at work." I agreed. read more

The food at the study is quite exemplary and always leaves me feeling full and content. The egg salad sandwich and juice bar are a absolute necessity for a hungry college student struggling through the stresses of school. I have never been displeased with the quality of food and overall the employees are very nice and amicable. The addition of digital machines has cut down wait lines considerably, which is crucial for an inebriated student sprinting up the hill at 1:55 am, to just barely make it in line at the 2:00 am closing time. The aesthetics of the study are quite pleasing to the eye, with large interpretative art installations and dark decor contrasting with illuminating light fixtures. While the pastries and coffee are mediocre and the build your own pizza bar only allows for a couple toppings, the build your own sandwich bar is a Study staple and never fails to delight. The Study is most definitely a gem that every student must try out to receive a complete UCLA experience! read more

Updated review: Made my order wrong again, which has been like the 5th time. Can't yall get the order right? The order says specifically every single thing. Upsetting because I often notice when I'm away from campus and can't fix it. This food isn't free and is highly expensive for students. ----- Honestly, I live for this place because it's so convenient but after today, this place can go to straight to hell. After they moved people from restaurant to restaurant, a lot of people noticeably resigned and they were forced to hire whatever a-hole came across their path. I go here like 3-4 times a week because of how lazy I am but I rather go to any other place than this loophole. Never have I had such an embarrassing, humiliating, and upsetting situation. As a student, you expect to be treated with such respect. My order was made incorrectly, so I had to force my way to get it corrected. The guy giving out the orders had such a demeaning and rude attitude. He didn't have a name tag so I can't report him. But anyways, I make my way back and let them know my order was made incorrectly, and the same rude guy says that they just fix the sandwich but right away a polite, middle-aged lady says she'll get me a new one. They couldn't find my receipt and the rude guy was practically saying they wouldn't give me a new one because they had no proof. What??? So you're saying I lied and unwillingly went down to the Study to make a scene??? Okay dude. Well, the lady tells me to write my order and gives it to the chef (an African-America lady who's name started with the letter T but i couldn't read her whole tag), starts to say my order out loud and begins to talk negatively about my order simply because I didn't want a protein. And when I mean loud, it was good enough for the other students to hear. Em-bar-ras-sing. I could feel my face turn bright red. I don't eat meat/chicken/ fish due to my gallbladder stones and just to hear her making fun of my order was as if she was making fun of my condition. I try to brush it off, but it's enough to make me feel like crying. The boy making my order, I think his name started with the letter B, was so polite and respectful about it. However, the guy passing out the order as well as another boy named 'Sebastian' simply stared, did nothing while they had 10 people waiting. Not only that, but beforehand, they were fooling around and acting super unprofessional. To the management of the study, please fix who you have representing your restaurant and demand that they are respectful and kind to the needs of all the customers, regardless of what they need in their order. As it is, I notice that less and less people are coming here. Now I see why. Definitely won't come here in a while and I'll make sure my peers stay read more

This place is going downhill. The service is bad and they have new people practically ever single day, so the quality of the food varies a lot too. The pastries always make me feel sick after I eat them, maybe because the texture is always partially frozen?! The drinks at the cafe are pretty bad too. Sometimes it'll taste like too much water or too much ice or not even hot (if you order a hot drink)! This place needs to be cleaned up too and the ice machines need to be fixed. How hard is it to fix a soda dispensing machine? Also, the ipads for ordering food practically backfired because I noticed that this place went down once these ipads began to be used. I'm hangry so here it goes... I got here at 1:40 am when it's supposed to close at 2:00 am. I walk in and get in line like i always do. The line, as it always is in the last few hours before closing on a weekend, is long but moving. At about 1:55, one of the employees ropes off the end of the line. I was surprised since the study isn't supposed to close until 2:00, but was ultimately OK as I was on the right side of the rope. As I approach the front of the line where my order is supposed to be taken, the clock strikes 2:00 and all the registers close, with just two people in front of me. So here are my questions: Why do you continue to allow people in the door and in line when you have no intention to serve them? Why, unlike rendezvous, b caf, or 1919, do you immediately stop serving customers when there are still a small number of people who have been waiting for food? Why do you have a posted closing of 2:00 when I won't be served when I get there at 1:40? Why does a dining facility at an expensive and moderately prestigious university run with less care for customers than a McDonalds? Why do you think it's ok to waste the time of hungry students? I don't mean to come across as arrogant. I've worked in restaurants before and understand the struggle closing can be. That being said, no restaurant that I've ever seen is run like this, letting customers waste 20 minutes for no food.
