What a wonderful spot in Gloucester! I visited on…read morereservation with a larger party, my boyfriends family as we were visiting for the holidays. This place seems to fill up, so definitely call ahead! As a first time visitor of the area coming from Vegas, Porters is LOVELY! The food, the lighting, the decor, the service. Truly a gem. His family was excited to bring me, and I see why. Despite being crowded, the servers were spot on with timing and hospitality. The owner even stopped by to say hello and happy holidays. Very attentive staff, and I can't praise them enough. The food was just as great. Meaty crabcakes with little to no filler. I ordered mine atop a salad, which was delicious and fresh. My boyfriend's ribeye was massive and cooked to perfection. Even the rolls for the table were delicious, and we had to bring home the leftovers. If I were a drinker, this would even be a great spot for evening cocktails. Great selection, everything looked great. The smoked old fashions ordered at our table looked wonderful. The hearty entrees didn't even leave room for desserts. It's all worth the price. Upscale dining feel in the charming small town of Gloucester Courthouse.

I had the lavender coconut Margarita which was mixed nicely. Not too sweet, not too light. My husband had some kind of smoky bourbon drink he enjoyed. Dinner was inventive and tasty. I had a soft shell crab on a pureed cauliflower with corn and vegetables. Cooked very nicely and presented very artistically. My husband had the seafood Alfredo with fresh tagliatelle and shrimp. That was to die for! The service was outstanding...attentive without being intrusive. We will absolutely be back!

One of the only restaurants in the area so prepare for a wait, and there isn't much parking. We had…read moreto park at the museum down the street and walk. Our server was great and was doing her best to keep up. Food and appetizers came out fairly quickly for how packed it was (35 min wait on a Saturday night), definitely try the crab puppies! I got the Jackson Creek Boil and I was wowed! It was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was just right. The andouille sausage was some of the best I've ever had. Key lime pie was just okay. I got a half dozen oysters too which were lovely. Lovely view of the marina, just be careful where you park! Also be warned, they do sell out of items. They were out of rockfish when I arrived, and while I was eating, they ran out of crab legs. Get there early!

I had really high hopes for this restaurant based on the reviews and the menu, but unfortunately…read morethis was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. We came Memorial Day weekend with 3 adults and 3 children under 3. The restaurant was busy, which we completely understood, and the 30-minute wait for a table honestly wasn't an issue. What became unacceptable was waiting 1 hour and 30 minutes for our food after being seated -- and even then, we were still missing a main dish and a side salad, which took another 15 minutes to come out. At one point, I politely asked our waitress if she could give us an ETA because our toddlers were getting restless after sitting there for nearly 2 hours with no food. She offered no apology and simply said, "You're in the line." I then asked if there was a manager I could speak with, and she told me I could speak to the cook, but "all he's going to do is yell at you." That response alone was shocking. When I spoke to the cook, he immediately became defensive, saying he had "100 people ahead of us" and that it was Memorial Day weekend so "what did you expect?" I completely understand holiday rushes happen, but there was zero accountability, no apology, and he couldn't even tell me whether our food had started being prepared so I could decide if I needed to leave and feed my children elsewhere. His response was basically, "I don't know what to tell you." To make things worse, while my 15-month-old was simply looking at some flowers and my 3-year-old leaned down to smell them, the waitress snapped, "NO DON'T TOUCH THAT," then looked at me and said, "You're just gonna let them do that?" I was honestly dumbfounded considering we had already been there for 2 hours waiting on food. The food itself was extremely underwhelming for the price. The kids' mac and cheese was very obviously Kraft mac and cheese, and overall the meal did not match the nearly $150 bill whatsoever. What disappointed me most wasn't even the wait -- it was the complete lack of customer service, empathy, or professionalism from the staff. Not one sincere apology was offered, and nothing was done to make the situation right. I understand restaurants get busy, especially on holiday weekends, but this wasn't "slammed" compared to what many restaurants in Charlottesville handle regularly. The entire experience was stressful, rude, overpriced, and incredibly disappointing. The only nice thing was that we had a view of the bay.
