Finally found some Midwestern style BBQ in El Paso...the lean brisket is amazing! The pulled pork was a little more fatty. They don't serve baked beans; more of a pinto style. Coleslaw is yummy; potato salad is a little bland. Prices were a tad higher than I would expect when considering the atmosphere. Texas size drinks (ice tea here) and a small bar area so, if you're eating only, it may difficult to find a chair. read more

Food taste and serving size isn't worth the price. Brisket was dry and flavorless. Chicken was just ok. The sausage was probably the best thing out today the platter that we ordered. Also, we ordered for delivery and received no utensils with the order which forced us to go down to the front desk from our Villa to ask for utensils. We were so excited to take the kids here for lunch, but we're really disappointed. You could obviously tell our waitress didn't want to be there! Service was very fast, when you come in the entrance it's next to the bar so you get a whiff of old stale alcohol . We ordered the baby back ribs and it was mediocre at best. All of the side where very bland as well. We also ordered the loaf of bread that was the best part of the meal. read more

Good bbq, but not as great as Cattleman's or even Rudy's. The first thing we noticed walking in was the smell. It smells like alcohol and urine, and it took a while to get use. The food came really fast. The homemade bread was good, but the texture and the way it hardened so quickly made us feel like they served us last old bread and just microwaved it. The beef ribs were HUGE and delicious! The brisket was chewy and NOT as tender as marbled meat should feel though. The pulled pork was great. The best thing about this place is the ribs and the fact that it's on the state line (good touristy feel). read more

We called for reservations the day before but were told none were possible. We showed up at 6:30pm Saturday and were told the wait was about 90 minutes. Since there was no room to wait inside or at the bar, we waited outside. About 30 minutes in, one young lady came and asked if we wanted anything to drink. I asked if they had any sparkling water, and she said she had to go check. She never returned with a response. After another 1/2 hour our so, we really wanted something to drink, as the afternoon heat was making us thirsty. After a couple of attempts to flag someone down, we finally got some attention. Long story long, the drinks showed up about 20 seconds before we were told our table was ready. The service inside, from another employee, didn't get any better. Utensils were promised but not delivered. Water glasses remained unfilled. The bread was brought when we were 3/4 done with the meal. The food is okay, warranting 3, maybe 3.5 stars. The service, however, needs improvement. Also, they don't serve salads. read more

Worst tasting food I have had in any restaurant I have EVER visited, ever!!! I am so sorry to say the bow sauce tasted like pure vinegar, the meat was not seasoned at all, they should call their potato salad pickle salad instead, and they are way over priced for the quality of food. I'm gonna try and give zero stars for this review. This restraint was an absolute waste of time. I had the 5 meats platter and the Mexican Deviled eggs. The Deviled Eggs were great, if I went back I'd definitely ordered them again, if I ever go back there. The rest of the meal was horrible. I smoke ribs at home all the time so I know what good ribs should be. The ribs had not even the slightest hint of smoke. Beef or pork, both ribs were cooked in the oven. Slow cooked, yes, but none of the meat has ever seen the inside of a smoker, I'll put money on it. I really wouldn't mind except, if your gonna advertise Texas BBQ, then you should sell Texas BBQ. My advice, if you're in the mood for BBQ, Rudy's is right around the corner. It'll save you money and you'll leave satisfied. Turns out you gotta give at least one star :-( read more

I had high hopes for this place, but left rather disappointed! We had about a 20min wait, which is not terribly bad for a weekend, and the service was okay, but the food...ummmm...I didn't care for the food at all and neither did my husband. I don't know if it was because we are used to southern BBQ or what, but the meat was dry, the beans were "meh" and the bread tastes stale. None of us at the table finished their plates. We picked up some take out as we were just driving through and staying the night in El Paso. Even though I phoned in the order and arrived on time, the staff seemed confused and we waited over 5 minutes for the bartender who was supposed to bring out the food. Not a huge deal, but the dog was waiting in the car so it was pretty annoying. When we finally dug in (and man was I excited for this brisket) I was disappointed. I haven't had brisket too many times and never in Texas, but this did not stack up. The sauce on the other hand was very good and was a nice compliment to the brisket. I've always enjoyed a good Texas barbecue and I think is fair to say that State line is a good but not great BBQ place. They do have excellent beef ribs , with a nice bark and good flavor. They have large portions and nice selection of options. but overall the BBQ is just good not great. Service was slow. read more

Went for family dinner. Started out nice enough, only a 20 minute wait to get a table. Took our order brought our drinks quickly. Then after 30 minutes we were informed something had to change on our food but still no food. After 40 minutes a table who had been seated 20 minutes after us was served food. So we decided to leave. Pretty cute place. There's a nice outdoor area if it's not too chilly or buggy out, although I think smoking might be allowed there so be aware. The interior is cute although kind of loud in the main area. We were seated in a separate room which made the noise bearable. There was about a 20 minute wait on a weekend night around 6pm. We were offered drinks while we waited. If we'd known we had to pay separately we probably would have waited to get them until we were seated, but that's no huge deal. Nobody acknowledged us for about 15 minutes (other than the drinks girl asking for payment) and my husband ended up going to ask the hostess who our server was. After that the server came by and took our orders without apology (although the hostess offered one). She was very friendly and brought our food out really quickly, but I would have appreciated some sort of explanation (even if it's just 'I am slammed' or 'I thought the other girl got you' about the drinks girl). She did have a 8-top seated at the same time we were, but some form of acknowledgement (even just a 'be right with you') would have been nice. Our food came out super quickly, which I'm hoping was her way of apologizing without actually saying anything. Either way it was nice to get fed fast after the wait. I got a 2-meat plate with turkey and brisket and my husband got prime rib. The turkey was very nice, as was the brisket. Neither was dry. It comes pre-sauced though, and I prefer to put my own on so I can control the amounts. It came with beans and cole slaw. Both the beans and the slaw were really good. I was surprised about the beans; I really dislike sweet BBQ beans (like from the can) but these were really nicely flavored, with a bit of smoke. For some reason they were especially good mixed with the slaw. Actually now that I'm thinking about it, I may have gotten potato salad too but I'm not sure, so I guess it wasn't that memorable. My husband's prime rib looked like a nice cut of meat but it just didn't have much flavor. The meat itself tasted well enough but could have used more seasoning; the au jus just tasted like very very weak (and unsalted) beef broth. He did like his potato, beans and slaw. The bread they served was ok, it was a little dry for my taste and I think they'd do well by offering real butter instead of just spread. We decided that it was all in all ok. I'm sure we'll go back. Mostly, though, the meat was on par with Rudy's. The sides were much better than Rudy's but I'm not sure they were good enough to make us drive all the way over from the east side, especially since it's more expensive. read more

My date and I ordered the cadilac (i think that was what it was called). It was the all you can eat meat thing. It was really good. More than we could handle. I love their potato salad and cole slaw. Wow! Excellent food. Got there at 6:20 on a Wednesday night and had a tough time parking. The food was AMAZING! Get the bread! I know it costs a little extra, but it's really good! The honey butter WITH the bread is melt in your mouth. The server was courtious and always seemed to be there to fill our water and take our plates at the appropriate times. The meal was incredible! State Line, right there on the border of Texas and New Mexico in El Paso. Since it's right down the road from the hotel we were staying at for business, we decided to give it a try. I really liked the decor and the courtyard, and the boisterous atmosphere. The barbecue mixed plate was pretty darn good, and I've been eating a LOT of barbecue this year. The sauce was tangy and tasty, and portions were generous. Drinks are big and tasty too (this IS Texas after all). The menu has lots of other options for non-BBQ lovers. read more

The wings here are above average and I really like their cherry limeade (which was kind of like a shirley temple). Everything else is about average. The brisket was a little on the chewy side for my tastes. The smoked turkey was good, but not great. The potato salad was also pretty good, but not something I'm going to be craving. My biggest criticism of this place is that the meat comes pre-sauced and I don't care for that. The meat was swimming in sauce and I didn't want it to be. The sauce itself was fine, but I like more variety in my sauce options at bbq places. Bottom line is good, but not amazing barbeque here. read more

All I can say is meh! It was okay. I ordered their "jumbo" baked potato with peppered turkey. When someone says jumbo, I'm thinking it's going to be HUGE....well, this was just a regular sized baked potato and there were about 3 oz. of turkey on it for $10 something and another $1.99 to substitute it for the turkey? Wtf? I expected something more than your average sized bake potato. Lesson learned! read more

Visited this place last fall while on a cross country trip. The ambience in this place was amazing. Great beer courtyard and ranch house interior. I was all hyped for a great bbq dinner. I ordered brisket, my husband had ribs. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy night. Food was just so so, not great as I expected.
