Good burger but a meh experience overall. First off, note that this is a cash only establishment. Though there is an ATM, be prepared to pay a hefty fee. I'd recommend heading to your bank instead. I remember this spot as a lively joint with attentive service and a crowd of patrons. The last time I went, that vibe appeared to have been thrown out the window. There were maybe two other tables of patrons and no line. I stood at the counter and it took the cashier a good 30 seconds to walk away from her coworker conversation to help me. She was rather robotic to me but it wasn't all that bad. I went to find a table and noticed that the indoor portion was lined with caution tape. I'm assuming the building must not be up to code, or something. The food did come out rather quick and was pretty good, but it was hard to sit and eat when the kitchen was blasting Banda music and the staff were all shrieking and laughing with each other. I watched a couple walk up to the counter and wait patiently for the cashier to, again, finish her social hour and assist them. They ultimately walked away. This place has gone downhill and would receive another star or two if they beefed up their management practices. read more

Always have to come here when im in carp but somehow always regret it. Random steep prices for some items and only cash. Slow service and after the demolition of the inside tables, there are never clean bathrooms or clean tables to eat. Wish there was music. We were camping at the nearby state beach. It took us a really long time to get our trailer parked and we were starving! We drove past The Spot and both had a feeling that this place would be yummy. We were NOT wrong. Hubby got a burger and fries and I got the shrimp basket. In addition, we each got a cup of clam chowder and were very happy with our choices. Can't wait to go back and try the chili cheese fries and maybe the onion rings. Quick service, friendly staff and the perfect beach day fuel. We took our food to go and ate back at the campsite. Super busy on a holiday weekend. Completely understand human errors but the way it was handled was very poor. Ordered placed by phone - Unfortunately when I got to the window the order was incorrect. No apology & no rush on the missing items- after 20 minutes of the rest of my order getting cold i asked how much longer it would be and the answer was "your items had to go to the back of the line". So, after a mistake made by the employee the rest of my order is at the back of the line. By the time I did eat the remaining items were cold and almost inedible. Unbelievable and rude. I would give it a no stars if possible. Went there and they would not serve without wearing a mask even though is an outdoor area. My mother in law put a shirt all around her face and they still told her NO! Then they told her she could purchase a mask from them for $1.50 which she agreed but they wanted her to make two transactions such BS. They lost out business that day and it was for 12 people. Jesse, As I stated in my first review about the first man complaining about his order and not receiving compensation for it. I didn't want to waste my time arguing for my food to be recooked when it should have been right the first time since you've guys have been there for 50+ years as you've stated. I'll stick by my review. I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt after my mom kept complaining about how bad the food was ever since she was a child. Whelp I should have listened. While I was waiting for my food a gentleman came back to complain that his burrito was made without avocado and was smaller than usual. (Should have been my first clue) But since he's been there prior for the same order I said why not! When opening the bag I said to myself how can someone mess up a burger anyways? Then it start to hit me! right after I ate the cheeseburger I had the worst stomach cramps of my life. Dying in pain I told my mom we should go home ASAP. I should have known when I looked at it upon receiving it. The cheese didn't even melt nor did the patty look fresh at all. The only thing that was actually good was the French fries. Went there for the first time and after waiting for over an hour to get our food, and they finally called our number, they said they forgot to charge us for one of the burgers so they didn't make it. When we finally got the food my burger was not the best. The bottom bun was hard as a rock. A cross between frozen and over toasted. When in Carpinteria, visit The Spot for some good char-broil and Mexican. The first time we ordered the taquitos from the take-out menu folder at Island Brewing Company. Needless to say, they hit the spot after a few rounds of brew. The second time, we were on our way out after an extended weekend of beach camping and decided to grab some breakfast burritos for the road. Once again, they didn't disappoint. The ham burrito had a full ham steak and the sausage burrito had three sausage patties. JL got the green sauce, which turned out to be better than the red sauce I ended up picking. Too watery for my taste. Maybe next time, I'll try the pico de gallo. Can be on the pricier side, but location and convenience are key. Can't wait to revisit. read more

"The Spot" has been around since 1914, so they've had time to work on their recipes which has resulted in some of the most incredible chili-cheese fries I have ever tried. The burgers are also very good, a step above In-N-Out in both taste and quality. The patties are cooked medium-rare and end up being juicy and messy. Service is quick, which is good because of the number of people who flock here around lunchtime. The Spot is definitely enhanced by it's proximity to the beach and Island Brewing Company (who encourage you to bring food in). If you are driving on Highway 101, it's worth the time to take a quick detour and check this place out. read more

This is definitely "the spot"(heh heh) to go to if you head to the beach or check out Island Brewery across the street! Ryan and I were in the area checking out breweries and decided to pick up some burgers and head to Island brewery next door. I got a burger and small chili fries, I recommend getting grilled onions on the fries! I think next time i'll ask if i can get my fries extra crispy when i get chili fries... My burger was great, I particularly like that they use thousand island dressing- it really tied the burger together. Ryan got a chili burger with regular fries- i'm guessing it was good because he inhaled his food!! We will definitely come here again when we are in the area! read more

The place was pretty packed, so we figured it had to be good. After scouring over the menu, we decided on their "famous" burgers. Ordered a cheeseburger w/ bacon, a double cheeseburger and some chili cheese fries. We were both pleasantly surprised by the juiciness of the patties (had a nice pinkish hue in the middle) and the overall quality of the burgers. My family has been coming here for over 30 years and the service today was at an all time low. The food has gone down in taste/quality as well. Cashier was very rude and seemed like she couldn't be bothered. There was no greeting or smile at all. Just looked like we were bothering her. Kept looking at her phone and going through things as we ordered. She asked if we wanted everything on the burger and seemed very annoyed when we asked what came on it, like we should already know. My mom was missing a ranch in her order and the girl at the pickup window looked through receipts to check and asked again if we only got one of the two. It's just a ranch! Is it that serious that she couldn't just give us the one we said was missing?! When I got my order, we were missing one order of French fries. I didn't realize how big the orders were and would have just let it go (we ended up bringing that order home), but the rude attitudes made me make sure I got everything I paid for. We looked into this place before visiting Carpinteria and wanted to stop by at the Spot and get some food from this place and take it to the Island Brewing Company close by. While we were walking on Linden Ave., we started talking with a nice local gentleman who also recommended The Spot as "they have the best burgers in town". This place has been around for a long time, so that's nice, to support a local business, a Carpinteria institution. The Spot is a small local fast-food joint, very close to the beach that stays open till 8 pm on Saturdays, which is great for Carpinteria where restaurants close earlier. Since we stopped by at the end of May, it wasn't a long line. The service was good and fast. It's not super fast, but they need time to make the food, right? We ordered 2 cheeseburgers to go and they were very good, not outstanding (had better burgers before), but this isn't a gourmet place. It's just a small joint off the beach and the food is decent. We also shared a large portion of nachos (with cheese, refried beans, sour cream, fresh guacamole and chopped tomatoes) which was also good, the ingredients were fresh. They have a decent inside area if want to eat there and also an outdoor one, nice and simple. No frills, just fun, off the beach. Cash only. A greasy mess is the best way to describe the cheese burger. Unlike my wife's turkey burger, it was still edible though. The turkey burger was undercooked, and because we took the burgers to go to eat at the tables by the beach, we had to throw it away. The French fries were nothing to write home about. They tasted a little like a hint of freezer cooked in oil about to turn rancid. I don't know how their ice tea tastes, because they were out when we were there. On the plus side, the reason for the second star, the service was fast and friendly. There are way better burgers in town, but none across the street from the State Park campground and on the beach end of Linden. If you are visiting Carpinteria, and have a hankering for a burger, do not eat here. Hit up Padaro Beach Grill, Sunset Grille, Rincon Brewery or even Cork Tree. read more

I was getting hungry after a long walk and game of volleyball on carpinteria state beach, so I ambled up the road a block to grab a beachside burger. It was a jumpin joint for sure, probably due to its primo location. This is a stand so service was lackluster but I don't have the same expectations for food trucks and carts as I would for a sit down place. My food was out pretty quickly and was a decent lunch for the price. I think the burger was $3.75 and fries about the same. They had a fair amount of outside plastic tables but I wanted to go back to the sand for my meal so I didn't stay. Something that did stand out was the enormous amount of ketchup packets they stuffed into my to-go bag...I counted and the grand total was...18. I guess people here like their tomato sauce! I found this place looking for fish and chips for my husband. The fish and chips were good, a little on the greasy side but tasty. I had a breaded chicken sandwich and onion rings, the sandwich was essentially 2 chicken strips in a bun with lettuce tomato onion pickle and mayo. But the chicken was very tasty and the bun was toasted. Onion rings were very good. The staff was very nice and seemed happy to be working which was nice to see especially during a pandemic. They all wore masks and gloves and enforced masks for customers. Overall we had a good experience. read more

I've been told that Former President Bill Clinton has visited this eatery and was very pleased. The customer service here is always speedy and pleasant which has probably made the patrons addicted in revisiting this particular spot. The chili burgers are amazing.
