I'm so happy to find an authentic SE Asian restaurant. We have many Hmong residents in our Oroville neighborhood. (The Hmong helped in the U.S. war against the Laotian and Cambodian Khmer Rouge.) I was only in Oroville for 2 days on a work trip. During lunch I ordered the Lao sausage, eggroll, noodle, sticky rice plate. I only had 30 mins so I ordered togo. I honestly wish I had time to really savor the food. It was soo tasty, the sausages were flavorful and the casing had a snap to it. The purple sticky rice was soft and still firm, and it had the perfect stickiness to it. The noodle had a nice light soy sauce taste to it and the egg roll was good as well. I think the best thing on the plate was the spicy pepper sauce. I dipped everything in it, I had some leftover sauce and I saved it lol. PRO's: This is my go to place for Spring rolls and Eggrolls (tastes homemade) and there's actually a good amount of stuffing per eggroll. BBQ plates are decent, though I will say sometimes they do get batches of tough pork belly (also, they still can't seem to get the pork belly skin to be crispy). CON's: Consistency. As is the case with many Asian cooking, there's no "measured recipe" AND there tends to be too many cooks in the kitchen, therefore a lot of their noodle dishes never taste the same. It is hit or miss, depending on who makes it unfortunately. ie: my first time getting the khao poon noodles was good; my second time the broth was very watered down; the third time was watered down AND whoever made it had added in 3 star anise to the broth (which is highly unusual and not part of the recipe). Khao poon, for those who are not familiar with the dish, should just be rice vermicelli noodles in a coconut cream & thai red curry broth (sometimes shrimp paste added) with some kaffir lime leaves and lemon grass thrown in for aromatics... but star anise? NO, never. read more
