This is my favorite cafe in the South Bay! I used to live in Westwood. In West LA, you cab find cafes like this (i.e., Urth, Le Pain, Elyse, etc.,etc.) on every street. When I moved back to the South Bay, I was sad due to the lack of juiceries/cafes. I love, love, love The Source. The food is fresh, healthy, and always satisfying. We came here on a Sunday for a quick brunch and ordered the Sunrise and the Turkey Panini. The Sunrise is just a yogurt bowl with strawberries, banana, and granola, and while it was good, it was not worth the $9 for that small bowl. The turkey panini was very tasty and came with some green salads, but again, not worth $12! I'm sure I can get 2 paninis just as good elsewhere. This cafe is pretty pricey: $7 for juices and $9 for smoothies! I understand the whole healthy food thing, but I'm sure you can make your own juice and smoothies at home with same ingredients for much much less. You can take it to go and enjoy your meal by the beach or eat in their super cute cafe. Its so hard to find a place like this by the beach! Have been coming here for years for the quality of the food but the lack of customer service is becoming a serious problem. after messing up our order (despite our multiple requests to not include protein powder in our kids smoothie) they put the protein... when we called back Kat answered the phone and is totally lacking customer service with her sarcastic tone of voice. I had noticed their shortcomings with customer service but this time I am done with them! I saw one of their employees walking out of the job right in front of customers the other day... people don't seem happy to be working there and you feel it when you order... short on the phone, expedite your order... for the kind of price you pay, should not be that way!! read more

Ok, I admit I was bummed when Planet Earth Eco Cafe closed, but when I found out that Chef Amber, who was transforming Planet Earth into The Source is also the chef at one of my favorite Hermosa haunts, Mediterraneo, I was stoked to see what they had to offer. The set up is pretty much the same as Planet Earth, albeit with new furniture & a fresh coat of paint & of course, an expanded menu. The staff was super nice, as was Chef Amber. I'm so excited to start my detox program after the new year with her help. I had the Bananza smoothie that was delicious. I'm kicking myself for not trying coconut milk before my visit, because I think that's what made this smoothie extra special. I had the Pier Panini as well. It came with eggs, avocado, & veganaise on toast with some fresh oranges on the side. The sandwich was super tasty. My only issue was the bread. It was just on regular toast bread, so the eggs kept falling out of it. Maybe a focaccia, or a similar tougher bread would hold up better. I can't wait to try more things that The Source has to offer. I hope they have a bright 2013 & many more. read more

So if I could just review the place, locaiton, price, and the amazing service (the guy knew I was having a hard time reading the board and comparing the pre-juiced juice options) I'd give it 5 stars. Oh, and we even had no trouble parking on Pier Ave. My coffee was great and a good price (about $3?) but the juice was 9.81. At least they have an option to bring back the jar for $1!! I loved that. What took away from a star for me i the hipster paradise this was (so many Macbooks- one girl even had Starbucks with her- they must have free wifi). This cafe has a good variety of options for everyone! Organic, Gluten Free and Vegan options. I got the avocado toast which was a burst of flavor the way the ingredients are mixed together. This is the best cafe for healthy, delicious food and drinks. As a frequent visitor I have tried almost everything on the menu from the homemade granola to the smoothies, salads and awesome coffee. The service is impeccable, with friendly faces always there to greet you. They have a wide range of gluten-free, vegan, and paleo baked goods that will knock your socks off (and are actually healthy!). The best part is that even if you are not "healthy" you will love the food. I always bring my friends and family here since everyone can find something to eat that they will enjoy. I am so excited that The Source is now open! I was a loyal customer to it's predecessor, Planet Earth Eco Cafe. I was initially bummed when Planet Earth closed but now, after having seen how freaking amazing The Source is, I am thrilled! Chef Amber, also Executive Chef at Mediterraneo in HB, opened this chic yummy healthful foods cafe and drink bar just yesterday. My husband and I shared the vegetable wrap, turkey panini, chocolate chip cookie and coffee. Everything was delicious, but especially the vegetable wrap! I know that they're supposed to be healthful, etc., but they normally don't have a lot of flavor. This vegetable wrap was so good! There was a black bean spread inside the (actually gluten free) wrap, which was a nice paring for the vegetables. Both items came with a nice side salad. I live in Hermosa and The Source is minutes from home for me, and this is honestly the nicest little cafe that I could ask for. Thanks! :-) My only gripe (and backhanded compliment) is that I wish they were open past 5pm everyday. It would be nice to grab dinner here with my husband and baby. So many of the dinner options in Hermosa are such bar scenes, which don't cut it for us anymore since we had a baby. Excited to come back again, probably tomorrow, and try some other items on the menu! :-) read more

Quaint little coffee shop at Hermosa - perfect for weekend mornings. To add to that, they have a completely healthy menu. We had a coffee, a chai latte and a cocoa flax bar. all for just $9. The bar was really tasty- much better than I expected. Chunks of chocolate made it awesome. It was vegas and gluten free too! The staff could be slightly sweeter- a smile here and there wouldn't hurt, but they weren't rude. May be there weren't too happy to be working on a holiday morning! A real nice restaurant for some yummy healthy meal and healthy juices. It's a couple blocks away from Hermosa beach. There is an outside patio which is nicely decorated. Inside, I really like the long bench table with the sunflower displayed on the table. Food & Price: Pier Panini ($9.50)- organic egg, fontina cheese, avocado, tomato with veganaise. It also comes with some fruits on the side. It's so delicious. Turkey wrap ($10.50)- fontina cheese, tomato, avocado, spinach and vegan garlic aoli. The BF really like it. Green Juice in a nice bottle ($9) - freshly made in the morning, and it's packaged in nice glass bottle. Iced Vanilla Latte with almond milk ($5.25). Love the food and ambiance but they could really stand to tweak a few things to make it 5 stars for me. 1. List the ingredients of your baked goods. You obviously cater to special diets (paleo, vegan, gluten-free) so why not include the ingredients on your name cards? We had to wait forever for the person in front of us to ask about the ingredients in each item which could have been prevented. 2. More staff. One cashier and 15 minutes for a panini seems like something you can fix. There was a line out the door because there was just one cashier which would be fine at off hours but 10am on a Saturday is peak time. After waiting in line 15 minutes we were told the panini would take 15 minutes! We were just trying to grab a quick breakfast on our way to walk on the pier for a bit but ended up having to add time to the meter. The staff is super nice and I'm glad they don't make you feel rushed, I just think they could serve more people with more staff during peak times. The food is good and they are one of the few places in the South Bay with vegan breakfast options so I'll keep coming back! read more

I absolutely love this place, I'm down in Hermosa every week and I always have to stop in, whether it's to get a Matcha Latte or the Chicken Salad or one of their baked goods or smoothies....it's a must for me. I only eat organic and paleo, so this place is perfect. I love that they also cater to Vegans and Gluten Free as well and most of the Gluten Free products are made without tapioca flour, which I love as well. I haven't explored the whole menu yet, but am making my way and nothing I have tried thus far has been disappointing. It is so great to have a place like this to go as it's hard to find a non-vegan place that serves organic. I wish they would open one in West LA, like Venice or Santa Monica area, I think this place would be just as popular here as well....hint hint.... Holy moly. Went here for breakfast today and I couldn't have been more satisfied. The service is outstanding, the owner herself works there and gives each customer very special attention, answering all their questions. She is a sweetheart. The food is top quality, organic, no preservatives, no antibiotics, no fuss. I was amazed at the Quality and it was just delicious. The avocado toast is DIVINE!!! I also ordered a vanilla latte, made with almond milk, and though I don't like almond milk normally... they made it Simply Delicious. I really wanted to order a second one! It was an A+. The best part of this place for me, is that normally I have a very sensitive stomach. When I eat out I tend to get bloated afterwards and am uncomfortable. This is the first restaurant I've eaten at, where I got no discomfort, no bloating, stomach remained calm and flat :-) That is a testament to the quality of the food here. I used to come here a lot with my family, rave about this place with my friends, and bring home some treats to indulge every once in a while. However, my excitement and appreciation for The Source had gradually decreased and slumped to three stars. My order for a matcha latte tasted like nothing but chalky powder with lukewarm milk- no flavor or sweetness, bitterness invaded my senses. Didn't even taste like matcha... what was it?? I took a couple of sips and tossed it away. Farewell 5 bucks :( Extremely surprised because I know this place serves their customers with great standards. However, my friend's iced latte turned out as equally nasty, no offense- the espresso shot was bitter and made her upset for what she paid for as well- she added sugar but of course that didn't make anything any better. Upsetting end to our beach day. The Source has great food (worth the money in my opinion) but I would not get their drinks after our experience.
