I appreciate what this little spot is trying to do - offer some healthier choices in the area with an inclusion on vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options but I found what I ate there to be underwhelming. The vegetable panini just tasted like unseasoned roasted vegetables between two slices of thin bread and the chickpea blondie tasted like it was baked without any love. I would be careful with what you order here because some things lacks flavor immensely. But if you're strapped for specialty diet friendly eats in the area, you'll be able to hold yourself over until your next meal here. read more

I don't recommend coming here, the service and food quality has gone down significantly. The employees are really nasty especially Abby. It's unfortunate that this place has gotten so awful, I used to come here everyday and they don't even make fresh nut milk and coconut milk like before. I placed a pick up order on Yelp today and it showed for pick up tomorrow morning but it said they're still open when I placed the order so I called and told the employee Abby who answered the phone if I could pick up the order today not tomorrow and she kept arguing on the phone saying she can't do that and she can't see the order and that I have to call and cancel and come in and place a new order, when she could have just fulfilled the order instead of being rude and then she proceeded by hanging up the phone on me. She didn't want to help at all. Not only did you guys just lose a regular customer but I also will not be recommending this place to anyone moving forward. Nice refreshing selection of juices. Very busy (packed coffee & juice bar) on a Sunday morning. Walked here after my pier-to-pier run. There is meter parking and a parking lot nearby. A wide variety of choices from juices, smoothies, elixirs, panini a, toasts, bowls, wraps, salads, coffees and teas. Didn't want to hold up the lines and I couldn't decide on what juice to order. I am updating my review to drop a star because after having been here a few times now, I can't help but feel robbed every time I come. The prices are just SO inappropriately high. The food is still good, but the prices are exorbitant. Today I grabbed a bottle of aloe water with chia seeds. The bottle wasn't labeled with a price (none of them are), and so I guesstimated that it would be $7 (which was still high in my head). By the time they totaled up my coffee, aloe water, and brownie, my bill was $21!!! The aloe water was $11. Since the first time I walked in this place and the barrista worked his magic on my latte's foam I was intrigued. I've come back a couple of times during the day to find yoga moms and their kids enjoying a chai latte or sandwich. When I noticed they had food I just had to try it out. The times that I've been there I have only had their Farro Salad. It is so yummy. The farro seed is chewy but not in an oatmeal type of way. The salad is mixed with basil, fennel, red onion, spinach, feta, and splashed with red wine vinegar. I've not tried their juices but I did hear what I think was the manager mention that some juices are pre-made and available in their fridge. These pre-made juices come in a glass bottle and on your next visit you can drop off the bottle and get a dollar back. Their coffee is pretty legit here too. I strolled in here with my lady for a late lunch the other day, and neither of us left disappointed. First, the food. I enjoyed a turkey wrap with a bonanza smoothie. My lady enjoyed the Palio chicken panini with a latte. My smoothie was very rich tasting, thanks in part to the high quality ingredients. That definitely makes it worth the price. My wrap was very good also. However the Palio chicken sandwich was the real standout. The bread was super soft and fell apart in your mouth, and the chicken was just as soft. It was really good and really different. My lady is a huge coffee drinker. And she LOVED her latte. Considering that she's not easily impressed when it comes to a cup a' joe, I'd say you should most certainly give one of their specialty coffees a try. I do wish the menu was a little larger, and that the juices were a little less expensive. But that's just nitpicking. This is a great place with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Ultra yummy and fresh! My friend and I decided to try this place for breakfast on a Saturday around 9:30 AM. It was busy but we were able to snag a great table outside and in the sun. The menu is extensive and full of amazing juices, smoothies and elixirs. The breakfast foods are also stellar with a range of paninis, fruit, granola and toasts. They also have a refrigerated case of some take away packaged items. We decided upon the granola bowl with Heart Beet juice and avocado toast with the Turmeric Tonic. The food was absolutely delicious and the juice/tonic were filling and so fresh. Outdoor seating permits dogs. The have a little water container inside so help yourself! We both agreed that we would return to The Source for breakfast/brunch. It was a perfect start to the weekend. I also will be back to pick up some juice on my way to work during the week. Since it's the best juice place by Hermosa pier you don't really have any other good healthy options.. Bad: Pier Panini ($9.50) - strange egg (seems like it's out of a carton then cooked in a mold), cheese, avocado (WAS MISSING FROM MY PANINI), tomato, garlic aioli, with seasonal fruit (just a few itsy-bitsy slices of apple). I noticed half way through eating my panini that there was no avocado, and when I brought it up to the staff they gave me a weird look, almost as if I was lying and trying to get extra avocado. Also, the panini was extremely greasy and my hands were covered in oil after picking up the sandwich - not exactly what I was expecting from a place you'd associate with health. I gotta admit, this place definitely hits the spot. AND the entire menu is healthy for you. Seriously, be prepared for super fresh food :) Note: I came here around 1:30-2pm. Parking: There's meter parking along the street next to the cafe, so be sure to bring a handful of quarters & dimes. You're also a few shops away from Hermosa pier & the beach itself, which is a plus. But with that said, finding parking can be difficult due to the beach crowd. You may have to circle around a few times before getting a good spot. Food & Drink: I decided to go "cheap" by ordering the vanilla chia seed pudding ($6), which was delicious & refreshing. The pudding was topped with coconut flakes & raw cacao pieces- yummmm. I hesitated getting any of the wraps or paninis because I didn't want to fork out the cash (around $10-12 for their meals)... But I kind of regret it now, because I tried my friend's turkey wrap & it was AMAZING. Perfect combination of ingredients! As for the drinks, I opted out of getting their well-known juices ($9-10 per juice bottle). Instead, I settled for a mocha (normal coffee price.. around $3-4). Personally, it was a little bitter at first, but overall really smooth. If you're used to drinking overly sweet mochas at Starbucks or Coffee Bean, the mocha here is NOT like that. But if you're the type of person who can appreciate real coffee, then I highly recommend it. Environment: From the outside, this place looks small. But as soon as I went inside, it felt spacious enough for my group of friends & I (5 girls) to comfortably sit down, chat, and relax. At least to me, it didn't feel crowded at all (despite the fact that our table was connected to a stranger's table). Maybe the chill beach vibes were getting to me, but the entire cafe felt really comfortable & friendly. And from what I saw today, they keep the place tidy & clean. That's always a plus in my book :) Service: Excellent! The lady who took our order today was extremely friendly, and she even remembered our names later when we asked for to-go cups. She was open to giving food/drink suggestions at the register and didn't rush us at all. Even though it seemed a little busy in the cafe today, our food came out quickly (approx. 5-10 min of waiting). Not bad, especially for such a busy location. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. But speaking from a post-college student's point of view, the prices a little too high for me. The prices are reasonable considering all the organic stuff they sell, but because of my lack of income at the moment, it's also the main reason for not visiting more often. Coffee - the bullet coffee tasted like if you melted butter and put it in water, not a whole lot of coffee flavor. The iced americano was okay, we added an extra shot but it still tasted watery. I had been wanting to try this cafe for a while, and finally was in the neighborhood to do so. I had the oddest experience--kind of similar to another Yelper's experience below like @Sandy. When I went inside I was looking to purchase a juice or smoothie. It being my first time there, I was unsure if they only had pre-made juices available in their open face refrigerator or if I could order something to be custom made fresh. There was one female staff at the register, I waited patiently as she helped check out the lady in front of me. I noticed she made some small talk with her. Mind you, I was the only ethnic person in the whole shop. When she finally acknowledged me, she asked if I had an online order. I said no--I told her I wanted to ask if they still carried a particular juice; she told me they no longer did. At that point I went back to the pre-made juice section to try to pick something out as I was in a rush. Then I had to wait again to check out. The whole time the front staff seemed very awkward, barely said two words to me as I was trying to process the transaction. I was still curious about the menu, mainly because I saw that behind her were some blenders. Again I tried to ask for clarity if they can make fresh juice. I asked if I could call in a custom order next time, the cashier just gave me a blank stare and said "yes" The whole time I couldn't help but feel as if I was unwanted there and that my business was not appreciated. I really am not sure why, or if she was racist, but if this is how the Source Cafe goes about treating their customers, especially with such high prices (!) then this will be my first and last time there. Parking is mostly meter and it can be hard to find a spot on the weekends, but during the week it isn't too bad. All of the food looked delicious though and will definitely be back to try it. Small cafe that is a great place for breakfast or lunch! The interior is super warm and inviting and they have a small patio area as well. Had the smoked salmon bagel and walnut pesto toast. I loved the smoothies so much that I decided to buy one to-go from the fridge section. I ended up getting the bananza which I am now obsessed with. Everyone is very friendly and you can tell that they care about their customers. As we were eating, I noticed that they have a lot of regulars here and the lady at the counter new many by name. I started with a latte and muffin while catching up on some email in their comfortable cafe. There are a lot of fresh juice options - veggie and fruit varieties, as well as lunch and breakfast goodies. But hands down, my new favorite is the smoked whitefish on toast - so delicious! I'm seriously impressed by this cafe and the best part is that they offer SO MANY gluten-free and vegan options! They took the time to prepare baked goods and even freshly prepared goods as well. I have a gluten-allergy so it's refreshing to be able to go some place that "gets it". My favorite there is the avocado toast on flax bread, their banana chocolate chip muffin and their macha smoothie. (ALL three of these are vegan and gluten-free).
