HVAC and shower temperatures could have been better but those issues pale in comparison to the total experience. The mansion was built in the 1870's so retrofitting can't be perfect. Our stay, however, was close to perfect. The location of the villa could not be better for exploring Chicago away from downtown shopping districts. We will return. Highly recommended!

It has been updated and featured beautiful furnishings and artwork. Don, who is the owner, was a gracious and proud host. He makes the check-in process easy and sends guests daily updates via text.. Although a continental breakfast was provided each day, a cook prepared breakfast tacos and tortillas our first two mornings. Both were very tasty. The kitchen is available around the clock if you want to make a panni sandwich. They also had housemade lasagna in the refrigerator for a quick 2-minute reheating in the microwave. Our charming unit is probably one of the smallest in the building, but it was perfect for us, as we were visiting relatives nearby. It included a bed, desk, bath and fireplace. It did have an outdoor patio and direct access to the complex's hot tub. The unit's shower is in the hallway near the front door, not in the bath itself. That was odd, but we made it work. Staying in late February, our $189 night rate was extremely fair for what we received. We plan to return soon.

There's a warmth here. And that's something even the snazziest of hotels can't promise. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy bougie hotels too, but this place has a story. The dry sauna and steam room were more than enough comfort, and while we couldn't enjoy the roof deck due to storms, it looked like the perfect place to chill. Our room was spotless, we had plenty of space, and the jacuzzi tub was the cherry on top. Breakfast is included, and the food from that kitchen was stellar. They had an entire separate vegan menu. I was super into the local kombucha and fermented hot sauce options, and the vegan French toast and tofu scramble were spot on. There are always snacks and beverages available around the clock, too. So fear not, my fellow snackers. As far as the vibe, let's just say the founder must have made randomness their full-time job. There is art all over the place, plus collections of all shapes and sizes. Two dozen antique cameras? Got it. 15 or so vintage thermoses on a shelf? Yep. Rock collections, statues, maps, and more? There is just stuff to look at EVERYWHERE. And I mean that in the best way possible. My wife booked us a little one-night getaway, and Ashley and the team made the whole thing a treat. Smooth sailing from start to finish, friendly, accommodating, and the room was our cozy little home away from home, even if only for a night. Completely walkable to all kinds of fun and shopping. Zero complaints. I can't say I've been to a place like Ray's before. It's a community. Just check the common rooms where you'll find board games, books about art and the neighborhood, and people just chilling out. It's unique, and we need more uniqueness these days. Ray's is the kind of place I love to recommend. Anyone can grab a hotel, but this type of visit is something much more memorable.

Without question this hotel is in my top 3 hotel experiences of all time !…read more Waldorf Astoria Chicago represents Hilton's top tier brand perfectly. They provided me with personalized service, high level of attention to detail, and recommendable customer service. I truly felt like a VIP from the moment I checked in until the time of my departure. As is typical of the Waldorf Astoria brand I received communication from the concierge service a few days prior to my check in. Once I arrived I was told that I had received an upgrade! While checking in I engaged in small talk with the staff. The staff was listening intently to what I was saying because I received a hand written note referencing what we discussed along with a pack of macaroons later that evening! The grounds of the property are beautiful. Every space looks clean and I did not find anything out of place . In addition to the hotel looking great, it also smells amazing ! There is a restaurant on site as well as a nice speak easy. The hotel also has a gym and spa on site. While the gym is not massive, or stocked with a ton of weights, it will get the job done! You may have to get a little creative if you are a weightlifter. The room...... BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING, PERFECTION--are the words that come to mind. The upgrade I received was for a king corner suite. The room had a massive bathroom with a separate soaking tub and shower and dual vanity, a half bath, a living room area, a desk area, a bedroom area, and a patio view from the 22nd floor! There was also ample storage area throughout the room. As is typical of the brand, they did provide turn down service - it's always a nice touch! Another perk of staying at the hotel is the location. This hotel is close to a number of places to shop and dine. If you don't feel like walking the house car can drop you off and pick you up within a mile or so of the hotel . If you have an opportunity to stay at this Waldorf Astoria, please take advance of the opportunity. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with the stay!

The brand of hand wash soap & shampoo/conditioner was also very great quality. The rest of the hotel staff were also very attentive, helpful, & good vibes. Perfect location as well. I will definitely be returning & telling everyone about this place!!

It was a short walk to my office and to the dinner we had with consultants. The lobby is beautifully decorated, colorful and cozy. I had room 509, which had a great view of the front entrance/street, train and river. One of my favorite parts of the room was the big cushioned windowsill with pillows, overlooking it all. It was almost big enough to be another bed and I loved lounging there at night. I liked the spaciousness of the room with a high ceiling. The bed was comfy and the room came with a fridge, a large closet, and good bath products. I loved everything about this hotel and I plan to bring my husband back. I'm only removing one star because early in the morning, housekeeping staff knock loudly on every door and yell "HOUSEKEEPING!!" to see if people have checked out yet, hours before checkout time and waking up the whole floor. I was given a later checkout of 12. A man pounded on my door at 10:30, and I explained that I was leaving at 12. He came back and pounded again at 11:40. The main reason I wanted a later checkout was to get some rest, which didn't happen. I don't know why they can't just communicate with the front desk and service the rooms where guests have already checked out.

It then apparently became Hotel Alise before becoming part of the Staypineapple Group. This was my first stay at a Staypineapple property; I must say their vibe is charming with a good dose of humour. The hotel building itself has a significant history. Originally designed by the famed architecture firm Burnham and Root as well as by Charles Atwood in the late 1800's as an office building, it was one of the first to feature the large bay-like "Chicago window". Its transformation into a hotel has thankfully retained much of the original features and fixtures, even the interior windows of individual offices still exist but are opaqued. Room doors still have the "Reliance" name on the lock and also the original mail slot. The first floor still features the front desk and the all-day restaurant Atwood, which I did not try this visit. Staypineapple has added a welcome drink, bikes to borrow, a water bar, afternoon pineapple-shaped cookies and coffee, plus snacks and beverages for purchase. My room was the starter-level Atwood Queen. It was petite but was not lacking in any features. There are pineapple motifs throughout: the free refillable water bottle, mugs, pillow, extra toilet paper, robes, outlet/USB port dock, Do Not Disturb sign, stuffed dog (you can buy). There are 2 covered quilts that also serve as topsheets. The window was enormous, even though not a Chicago one. I was on the top floor and had a tiny glimpse of the river, along with the L, the Chicago Theatre and the historic Marshall Fields building (now Macy's). I appreciated the empty mini-fridge. Being in the downtown loop, many sites and restaurants are easily within walking distance, as well as CTA stops. I personally went to Millennium Park, the Chicago Architecture Center, and Wildberry, the very popular breakfast/lunch spot. Staypineapple has added some fun to this iconic hotel, which will remain my first choice for lodging in the Loop.
