Came in for brunch on a Sunday and did not know what to expect other than good food. As soon as we were seated it was a pleasant surprise of gospel brunch! The food was delicious, awesome service and personable touch. It was also nice to be personally regarded by the owner, Mr. Samber himself. read more

This weekend we came for a birthday party in the Eagle Room. It was beautifully decorated with a flower display at the buffet table. It's a small intimate area. The food was brunch with frittata, French toast, bacon, sausage, roasted vegetables, butternut squash and fresh fruit. The food looked delicious. The butternut squash was my favorite. Now for the downside, my bf and I were a few of the last people to get our first plate. When we were getting food, most of the trays were almost empty and they didn't have enough food. It's a buffet and shouldn't there be enough food for all. My bf didn't get the frittata or bacon. Usually there's more than enough food and then some. People asked and they weren't making more. A friend wanted more sausage links for his son and they had to make a couple links. Disappointed because usually there should be second helping and at least enough for first helping. So I ended up with a stomach ache and not feeling well. I hadn't left yet. I rushed home. Found out there were a couple more people had the same feeling after leaving. We were looking to try the Sunday buffet. I don't think I will now. read more

Came here for brunch late Sunday morning. It was pretty empty so our server was really attentive.. I think it's a bnb so it gives off a home atmosphere and has a parking lot! The food was pretty good and wasn't skimpy with the portions. It has my tummy rumbling now thinking about the crispy tots and bacon. The combo I got also came with a pretty good omelete, sausage links and French toast. You can swap out the tots for sweet potato fries to feel more healthy or just eat the fruit cup and call it a day. Not one of those bougee overprice brunch spots, an actual brunch spot. Definitely want to return some time. read more

EVERYTHING! Chef Dave runs a tight ship! There is not one thing I would change. The food was amazing and the service unbelievable! We enjoyed appetizers, salad, bread and a multitude of entries. I think my favorite would be the Custard-filled Cornbread although there was not one entree item that would warrant a bad review!!! read more

Had lunch today at the Polo Inn and it was as usual excellent. Great food, friendly staff in a pleasant surroundings.

The Gospel Brunch is amazing! We loved the food, drinks, service, atmosphere and mostly the entertainment. A man played the organ and the owner sang so beautifully. If I lived in Chicago, I would be a regular here on Sundays! read more

After church our group decided to go to breakfast, we've never tried The Polo Inn, so we decided to try it. Delicious food, BYOB (we did) mimosas, good music/singer, fresh flowers, good service, clean & owner/manager even stopped to ask if we were enjoying ourselves! The only thing that threw me off was that there was no brunch, which to me means a buffet/smorgasbord of mixed breakfast food and lunch food. We ordered off the menu. Regardless, we truly enjoyed our experience! read more

A fun place to bring the family! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and in generous portions. We had been sightseeing all day and it was just what we needed--a comfortable restaurant with classic American fare. This is a great place in Bridgeport for an easy dinner. They are BYOB, in case that's something of interest, which is a really nice feature. The hours have recently changed, so be sure that you're checking for the most up to date hours before going. We called before we went in because we weren't 100% sure if the hours, and they were really great on the phone. It's never too busy inside, but also never dead either, which is a nice balance. We ordered the burgers and really enjoyed them. read more

We hadn't been to the Polo cafe in probably 20 years, having been not so impressed on a couple visits back then. However we stopped in for lunch recently and are very pleased to report that they are indeed a bona fide "real" restaurant! We had two beautiful soups of the day, cream of spinach and cream of corn, both worthy of accolades. Then the meatloaf with mash potatoes and gravy, a welcome comfort food, and the crab nuggets, with a tangy sauce. The Caesar salad was fresh and crunchy and the crème brûlée was a small but welcome finish! Though their hours are weird (they close at 6 pm when most people are just beginning to think about dinner!)and they no longer do drinks, their 5$ byob policy seems acceptable. We'll be back in some shape or form to sample more of their offerings! Our server was great! We'll add our photos when we can - read more

Sunday brunch! No words to describe(Fantastic)will be back on September 13! September 12, 2020, patio seating almost dark, everything was so damn GOOD! Owner Dave and staff friendliest people you will ever meet, the soda fountain scene from "Hoodlum" was filmed at this very location. And you know the food is good when other patrons suggesting things you should try, one gentlemen with some of thee most beautiful ribs I've seen in a while(Unfortunately I don't eat pork)but the smell and the meet falling of the bone(Yes I was watching, sue me!)almost made me lose my religion! But I'm sorry to say, "We will be back Sunday" I pretty sure we are going to eventually have tried everything on the menu! See you Sunday! read more

Sheila and I dined at the Polo Inn a few weeks ago after driving by several times wishing it was the right occasion. We both had the steak sandwich. I had mine with a side salad and she had french fries. The sandwich was pretty good overall and I really enjoyed the salad as well. I picked at her fries which I also enjoyed. The meat had good taste and I liked that they add mozzarella cheese. The steak could be trimmed better as we each had a few bites that were chewy. Overall, we loved the idea of the Polo Inn, their story, the decor including the Mayor Daley picture, and the food. We should be back. read more

Awesome breakfast spot in Bridgeport. After hearing about their Sunday gospel brunch, my GF and I decided to come here to see what the hype was about and so glad we did! Neighborhood stalwart, this venerable family operation is decorated with historic Chicago memorabilia. The big picture of "The Boss," makes me a little nostalgic for entertaining local government corruption. Last time I was here I tried explaining to a couple of "adults" that long before Al Gore had an election stolen from him by voting irregularities, Richard Nixon was robbed by Chicago voter fraud. Of course they had never heard of NIxon, Gore or Daley because young Americans don't believe in history. Okay, well maybe you're not interested in history either. Then come here for the gnocchi, it's delicious. I like the pork chops too, and leave room for fresh baked cookies for dessert. Excellent service, same challenges in parking anywhere else in this neighborhood. read more

Let's me tell you about this little gem in Bridgeport. Holy hell, (sorry Jesus)! Definitely come for the Gospel Brunch on Sundays. This little place is unreal and delicious. Family owned and operated, super cute little toddler running around saying hello too. Located in an old historic building in Bridgeport, Polo Cafe and Catering serves up good food in a cute environment. Polo used to be Polo Nuts and Candy- so where you sit to eat is the old store complete with tin ceilings, antique dolls and display cases. This place is simple- a few booths and some tables and most likely you will meet the Dave the chef/owner who comes out to greet you and welcome you to his restaurant. In addition to the restaurant- the space next door is the available for parties to rent out for showers and private parties. It used to be an old theater so the acoustics are amazing and will hold up to 100 people. It also houses an antique Wurlitzer grand piano and an old pump organ. Dave also just recently renovated the top floors of the building into four 2-3 bedroom suites that function as a Bed and Breakfast. Each are individually theme decorated. On my first visit- I went for dinner. We were warmly greeted and decided to have the stuffed fillet and the bone in ribeye. They come served with mashed potatoes and a vegetable combination. Either our server wasn't paying attention or there was a mix up in the kitchen but both of our steaks came out way too well done and the sides were on the cool side. While usually not one to send something back- since the chef was standing there and he asked we told him the steaks were done way too well. They did them over and the on the second try mine was fine- but the ribeye was still too done. Not a stellar showing. But since we liked the owner so much- we thought we'd give it another go at a Saturday morning "Bloody Mary brunch". Know before you go that they only serve brunch on Saturdays and not Sundays. We got there around 12:30 and were the only ones in the place. We ordered a few Bloody Mary's and breakfast. Just a note- if you don't like horseradish- be very aware that the Bloody Mary's at this place taste like cocktail sauce in a glass as there is ALOT of horseradish in them. One was more than enough for me! My breakfast entree was the clear winner. Their signature creme brulee french toast was out of this world! Cooked in a ramekin- it comes out looking like two "flowers" of french toast with vodka syrup and whipped cream in the middle. Absolutely decadent and amazing!! The other entrees of steak and eggs, while good, were pretty typical. Not alot of places to grab brunch in Bridgeport- so I would recommend it for that alone. As for dinner- if I go back- I am going to order more simply as I have a friend who raves about this place- I just didn't see it on my recent visits. read more

I used to live in Bridgeport and never knew there was such top notch food in the neighborhood! Thinking it was a neighborhood place with mostly locals, I initially questioned the validity of such allegedly biased reports of amazing food. However, I attended a fundraiser that was catered by Polo, and even won a generous gift certificate! So I tried it.......AMAZING! The menu was full of familiar entrees, from fish and chips to stuffed pork chops! I love how perfectly each dish comes out. Fish and chips fried to perfection..stuffed pork chops was the most delicious ever! I really appreciate when simple, familiar dishes are well-prepared. Nothing better! Okay, maybe with a Creme Brûlée dessert, it will be even better! The Creme Brûlée even has a hidden Chocolat in it! Nom nom nom! The owner, Dave, is extremely friendly and comes out to greet all the guests! Gourmet food with love! read more

Hidden gem in Bridgeport! Attentive service and good food. Chili soup - flavorful and taste homemade The Mayor's steak - certified angus beef served on a toasty baguette with fruit bowl, and an option to get fries, salad, or soup. Quite generous and large portion! The meat of course was tasty and was cooked as requested. Creme brulee french toast - Seriously, it looked like toasted galic bread, but the toasty french toast was flavored in creme brulee. It wasn't too sweet and the flavor was just right. Crab cake bites for $6.50 that came with platterful of bite size crabs! beer battered onion ring - It's good, but nothing special. read more

Cream brulee french toast. Oh my! Looks big, heavy, overly sweet but the hell it is! Light, fluffy, with the right kiss of sweetness. This is da bomb. Just look at that peppery steak and it's every bit as delicious as it looks me pic. And their seafood omelet might make you dropkick a baby goat. Yup. Did you know that if you ordered the Eggs Benedicto XVI, it comes with a framed portrait of the pontiff and fancy lit candles? Stumbled upon a lively lesbian wedding reception this place hosted, while walking up Morgan to a nearby art exhibit. That was a few years ago of course, but we finally unhung our overs to visit the cafe portion for Sunday brunch and fuck we've been missing out perhaps the best offering on the near south side. Shock hasn't calmed after downing about 7 mugs of their wonderful coffee and the server had to bring out the big red plastic jug of ground Folger's classic roast coffee to has us believe the hype. Mind blown. Must return! read more

As we entered the COVID-19 lockdown I was looking to support some local restaurants. I live in Bucktown but have heard so many great things about Polo....so I can attest it's really, really great food. Been here now 3 times since the shut-down. Steak sandwich, meat loaf, fish fry all super delicious as well as the salads, fries, mashed potatoes were fantastic, fresh, and tasty. Ironically since it's only carry out, I have had to drive back the 15 minutes to my home and they do a great job in their packaging as the food has been more than adequately warm and presented and tasted great. Lastly, portions are pretty significant. As I write this I just had a meal and am stuffed. I came with my sister and niece for brunch and we were disappointed. Service wasn't very attentive. We were never asked if we wanted anything to drink or coffee, but the other table was asked. ?? I ordered the creme brulee french toast and my sister went with the steak and eggs. Creme Brulee French Toast - Sorry, but I'm in the minority on this. This was nothing special. There was barely any sauce on it and the ends were a bit burnt and hard. The fruit was fresh though! Steak and Eggs - My sister asked for the steak to be medium and the eggs over easy. The steak was more like rare. The eggs were overdone. I had high hopes for this place, but ultimately disappointed. Finally was able to catch this place open, the food looks flattering, but I don't think it was that great. Maybe bcuz the waiter said they were limited on supplies as breakfast is only sold on the weekend. It took a while for the food to arrive, but he was able to accommodate us. I'm not a big fan of bacon ( sausage wasn't an option on this day) and the taste of the eggs were either over-cooked or definitely missing something- I didn't eat them. However, I must say the baked crab cake nuggets, which by the way weren't baked, with the hot sauce were amazing. They were so good that I took an order home. The $95 voucher was also a nice gesture, after discovering it, we were able to purchase and apply it to our current tab. I also think it was a bit pricey $19 for a meal with French toast!!! Maybe it's better if you're a guest in the B & B. read more

My friend, Winnie, took me to the Polo Inn for dinner, and the meal was the best I've had in a very long time. We split the meatloaf which came with mashed potatoes, vegetables and was delicious. Hors D'oeuvres served hot in a boat like holder: Cab Cake nuggets, Bacon Wrapped dates, Pigs in a Blanket, and Shrimp Satay. Outstanding delicious. Main Food Stations: Beef Pot Roast Sliders, Chicken wraps wrapped in foil just the right size. In covered plastic containers: Baked Wild Alaskan Salmon with Spanish Rice, best Salmon ever. Spinach Artichoke Raviolis in Fire Roasted Tomato Vodka Sauce there were 6 raviolis's so delicious. So much food we got to take home as many containers we wanted. I love love love polo cafe. The food is f*cking phenomenal. I still haven't met the head chef and I'm a bit sad that I haven't because people who can cook like that deserve constant praise. Sunday brunch? Amazing. Come for the combo prix, ONLY ON SUNDAYS. Their dinner meals? Amazing. My boyfriend had meatloaf and it made me feel like I was in some 1960s home in mid century America and I am Korean. Friend had pasta, excellent. But it gets better. Their waitstaff is incomparable to any kind of friendly service I've ever had anywhere. I sure hope their boss understands that because I can't be the only one that thinks this. Nancy and Adam are such wonderful beautiful people! Although sometimes the wait is a bit long on Sunday mornings I really wish I could give this place more than a 5. This is one of those places that has been there for ages but that many people do not notice. It keeps unusual hours and looks something like a storefront at first glance, adding to its anonymity. But I always wanted to go there so I made reservations for the Gospel Brunch with a big group of people. The menu had so many delicious options on it that it was difficult to choose. Everyone's dishes were tasty looking and the portions were large. I ordered the 1/2 portion of St. MARY MAGDELENE Crème Brûlée French Toast and I had to ask people to help me finish it (and we still didn't). The mimosas were giant, served in wine glasses instead of champagne flutes. The organist played classic church hymns, which added to the atmosphere (I would say it's a hymnal brunch, not a gospel brunch, but that's all right). A couple of people in our party had to wait for their Chicken & Waffles but the staff was apologetic and the owner joked that he'd already ordered more waffle irons so it wouldn't happen again. The staff was kind and attentive. The space was cozy, warm, and inviting with vintage late 1800s ambience. My grandparents told me it used to be The Eagle movie theater when they were kids. Free parking is another perk. We all really enjoyed our experience, which we would put in a nutshell as: Fun, strange, unique, and delicious! I would definitely return. read more
