I'm not quite sure we will ever be back in Chicago, but if we are, we know where we will go!! One small edit for advice- plan ahead for the shuttle! We requested a 930 shuttle departure, and when we got downstairs at 925, it had just left. The front desk worker said that they'd be "right back", and after waiting 10 minutes, she said they had gone to the airport and would be back for us. When we got an Uber at 9:45, the shuttle was still not back.

While she apologized, it felt very unprofessional. I was also charged for an $8 bottle of water that we never touched. My husband even said you can buy a 12-pack of water at Walmart for that price. As a Hilton Honors member since 2017 with a Hilton American Express card, I was frustrated by the confusion regarding the "free" water bottles. To make matters worse, guests were partying loudly until 3:00 AM the night before our early flight, making it impossible to sleep. I woke up multiple times during the night just to open the front door and take some deep breaths of fresh air. It's terrible in this day and age that hotel owners don't realize how many people are chemically sensitive, may have breathing/respiratory issues, or just want to breathe fresh clean air instead of chemical stink. Upon arrival I was greeted by Jennifer, a very nice young lady that checked me in and really seemed to care about my stay. The room itself was clean and comfortable. I saw no evidence of bugs or mold. The bed and the room as a whole were comfortable and everything in the room functioned as it should. Maybe there has been a change in management since the earlier reviews or maybe the facility was updated since Covid wreaked havoc on the hospitality industry but based on my current experience I would definitely stay here again.

I stay the first night, catch the airport shuttle the next morning, and leave my car. No more paying to park a couple miles away and waiting on the shuttle bus to get there to pick us off or drop us off. When you return from your trip, you catch the free Doubletree hotel shuttle back to your car, get in your car, and leave. No need to check back in with the front desk. The shuttles to and from the airport are complimentary. Just give your driver a nice tip.

But the hotel event staff ran a tight ship and I noticed a fair number of people going back through the buffet line for seconds. That is a good sign. Okay now to the bad stuff. The front desk staff were not very friendly or helpful. They looked at you, if they did at all, like you were bothering them. Housekeeping was sub-par; slow and they did not really clean anything. The bar and the dining room were also not good. The food in the bar and the breakfast in the dining room were not worth going back for at all, ever! One final thing to note is that the hotel is isolated in an area that is not so nice. Surrounding businesses are not interesting, there are no good restaurants and there is no place to shop if that is your thing. That's $30 more than we were initially quoted but I am so tired and cranky I let it slide. We go up old ratty dirty elevator and get off on the 3rd floor. As soon as the elevator opens the combination smell of dirty old man, cigarettes, and massive BO wafts towards our direction. We get into our room and you can tell the cleaning crew did the bare minimum to keep this place "clean". I've stayed at better hole in the wall hotels in Mexico! The coffee pot, which I had no intention of using was full of coffee stains. And the disposable cups were all crush that two of them had holes in the bottom. Against better judgement we get up for their continental breakfast. I can't complain about the breakfast it is usual breakfast fare ie. toast, cereal, etc. But that room was hot an MUGGY! It felt gross. They had no plates and the milk was not in a cool container so needless to say I stayed away from that mess. The reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because the desk people were nice and they ended up giving us the original price of $84. Disappointing Stay -- Poor Value for the Price…read more I stayed at Extended Stay America Suites - Chicago - Midway during my recent birthday trip and paid approximately $490 for my stay. I wasn't expecting luxury, but I did expect a clean, comfortable, properly maintained room with basic amenities. Unfortunately, my experience fell well short of that. The property and room felt very dated and poorly maintained. The toilet had visible staining, the refrigerator's lower interior was dirty and discolored, and the kitchenette showed significant wear and staining around the countertop and sink. The bedding looked extremely wrinkled and poorly presented, and one of the beds was missing a top sheet or cover. Several basic features were also problematic. The bathroom electrical outlet did not work, the shower curtain was too short and allowed water to splash onto the bathroom floor, and there was no bath mat. The television picture was severely distorted, and the basic Wi-Fi was so unreliable that I eventually could not use it. The mattress was hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. There was an iron but no ironing board, and I had to borrow a hair dryer from the front desk because there wasn't one in the room. The room also lacked a conveniently positioned full-length mirror, and the lighting was inconsistent, with noticeably different bulb colors even between the bedside lamps. The door and lock made noises when there was activity in the hallway, which left me feeling uneasy, although I cannot say there was an actual security issue. The advertised breakfast was extremely limited--essentially a choice of a muffin or granola bar. The front desk experience at check-in was also confusing and did not inspire confidence. I understand this is an extended-stay property rather than a luxury hotel, and I did not expect upscale accommodations. But basic cleanliness, working fixtures, reliable Wi-Fi, and a comfortable bed are reasonable expectations at any price point. For approximately $490, this stay was very poor value. I documented several of these issues with photographs and would not choose to stay here again.
