My room was held together with caulking, extension cords and power strips plugged into other power strips, and a random brass plate covering a hole in the wall. The smoke detector was also covered with a plastic bag and tape. 2. Registration and check-in is by email and text, and management cannot be bothered to take phone calls. So instead they inundate the guest with text messages and emails (a total of 15 from the property to me, including texts from two different phone numbers) regarding the reservation, registration, and check-in. I tried to check in using a text message that had only the door code but couldn't find my room because you book your room by name (e.g., Venetian Room) but when you arrive, the rooms are numbered. So I texted manager Ashley, who ended the text with "Considering 99% of people don't have problems maybe it's not us that's the problem." Never before in my life have I have been talked to like that by someone (supposedly) in the hospitality industry. Ashley is passive aggressive and has no business working in any customer-facing position, much less in the hospitality business. And apparently she's rather immature, because she's not learned that having to have the last word is not a becoming quality, especially with guest when her intent is incite and/or insult them further. I would rather sleep on the streets of Chicago than stay at Villa Toscana again. Do you yourself a favor and stay at a real hotel in Chicago.

So in wanting to visit and not break the bank, my girlfriend and I wanted to try something new... a Bed & Breakfast. This turned out to be one of the best decisions ever! The Sono, ran by Tom and Kim, is an excellent, exceptionally clean, delightful venue. From the very large, open, and inviting community area designed as the kitchen and eating area with a couch and sitting area at the far end, the entire place was amazing. Even in the midst of winter in December, the views from the rooftop were stunning(can't wait to enjoy that in the summer months). We had a single king-size bed room, with a balcony and view of the city. Being on the third floor was a hike up the stairs but so worth it to enjoy the added views from thru the windows. Each room was keyed separately, similar to your own house, which gave a good sense/feeling of privacy and safety of our belongings. An excellent feeling of home, with the sense of a wonderfully ran hotel. The breakfast in the morning had a plethora of options, from yogurt and granola to toast to cereal to oatmeal, with coffee, juice, and tea for drinking options. Of course there is water as well. The only other thing I could have expected was hot breakfast as an option. Is there a suggestion box? Anytime we visit Chicago from here on forward, we will be making sure The Sono is available! The rooms have everything I want: a place to hang my clothes, shelves to put my things, a desk to work upon, an easy to connect to bluetooth speaker, nice bath products, and a comfy bed with great sheets. There's a closet with clothing steamers (a must have hotel item for me!), irons and DISTILLED WATER. Anyone who is serious about steaming uses distilled water to do it. (Thank you for knowing this, Publishing House!) I went directly to this closet to get myself a steamer! There's a kitchen where you can make yourself a pot of tea (or coffee) any time, a fridge you can put your food in, and a beautifully appointed living room that you can hang out in (with, or without, your friends). I don't usually eat breakfast but the breakfast (included in your stay!) is too good to pass up! Glorious cooked breakfasts plus fruit, granola, yogurt, and homemade baked goods. The staff is made up of talented and attractive staff who are also kind and helpful. The Publishing House is my dream come true. If I could find a place like it in New York, Toronto, and LA I'd be 10X happier to travel to those cities.

Quiet, exquisitely comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and uniquely decorated (in all the right ways). We felt like we were guests in the amazing home of a contemporary art collector. The pantry was a treat for quick snacks and refrigerator space. Breakfasts were inventive, delicious and health conscious. The "public" areas were spacious enough to share with other guests easily, nothing like a hotel lobby lounge. The hosts were great with communicating check-in and checkout, as well as friendly tips about the front door during a humid weekend. The list of restaurants and local shops was beyond useful. We also enjoyed happy hour in the affiliated restaurant below. This was our first trip to Chicago in a long time, we had such a good time, we'll be back in the fall and the Publishing House B&B will be our first choice to stay.

It has been updated and featured beautiful furnishings and artwork. Don, who is the owner, was a gracious and proud host. He makes the check-in process easy and sends guests daily updates via text.. Although a continental breakfast was provided each day, a cook prepared breakfast tacos and tortillas our first two mornings. Both were very tasty. The kitchen is available around the clock if you want to make a panni sandwich. They also had housemade lasagna in the refrigerator for a quick 2-minute reheating in the microwave. Our charming unit is probably one of the smallest in the building, but it was perfect for us, as we were visiting relatives nearby. It included a bed, desk, bath and fireplace. It did have an outdoor patio and direct access to the complex's hot tub. The unit's shower is in the hallway near the front door, not in the bath itself. That was odd, but we made it work. Staying in late February, our $189 night rate was extremely fair for what we received. We plan to return soon.

The mansion is stunningly beautiful and the ambiance transported us far from the daily grind. Breakfasts exceeded expectations. Snacks, including homemade banana nut bread, and a large variety of beverages are always available. HVAC and shower temperatures could have been better but those issues pale in comparison to the total experience. The mansion was built in the 1870's so retrofitting can't be perfect. Our stay, however, was close to perfect. The location of the villa could not be better for exploring Chicago away from downtown shopping districts. We will return. Highly recommended!

The room was spacious and included a full kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, cooktop stove, pots, pans and dishes. Having an actual kitchen setup was a nice bonus, especially for a longer stay. Free breakfast: The hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast, which was convenient and a nice way to start the day without having to immediately head out looking for food. Location: The hotel is just one block from Michigan Avenue and surrounded by restaurants and shopping. And if you're a Starbucks fan, the Starbucks Reserve is literally next door! Safety: I appreciated the extra security measures. After 6 p.m., you need a keycard to enter the lobby, and a keycard is also required to access the elevators. It added an extra level of comfort coming back to the hotel at night. Rooftop lounge: Don't skip this! The rooftop lounge has some really nice views of Chicago and is a great place to relax and take in the city skyline. The Cons The biggest thing that caught me off guard was that reception is on the 20th floor. So, when you arrive, you'll need to take the elevator up to check in and then head back down to your room. Not a big problem, but definitely something to know ahead of time. Traffic can be a headache. You're only about a block from Michigan Avenue, which is great until you're sitting in Chicago traffic trying to get around. Give yourself plenty of extra time if you're driving or getting dropped off/picked up. The area can get pretty congested. The L is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, which isn't far at all. However, I found Google Maps a little confusing when navigating the route. Once you figure it out, it's an easy walk, but I would give yourself a little extra time the first time you make the trip. Overall, I had a really good stay. The combination of spacious rooms, the full kitchen, complimentary breakfast, convenient location and rooftop views made this a great home base for exploring Chicago. I'd definitely consider staying here again on my next trip.

We chose the Residence Inn Magnificent Mile location because daily hot breakfast buffet was included ( saving us about 50 bucks a day) and the rooms come with kitchens. Firdge , stove, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of serving ware. The lobby and breakfast area are on the 20th floor which made for a nice morning view. The buffet was more than adequate with various eggs, oats, meats, fresh fruits, yogurts, juices, assorted breads, waffles, and the apple pancakes that were very good. The staff, from street lobby, to check in, to housekeeping and food service were completely on point. I had trouble with the tv and the tech arrived 5 minutes later. Fixed. The entire experience was flawless. THAT is how you do customer service ... especially in hospitality. It was essentially a perfect hotel stay. There's usually ONE best way way to do things and too many businesses are doing too many things that are NOT the best way and then making excuses for why they can't change. If you're not doing it the best way with no excuses, then you are doing it wrong. (All you half-assed businesses out there with all your excuses and bad apps and sites... this means you) Perfect Marriott stay made the perfect Chicago vacation. Great job. I booked because the pictures online looked great, but when I walked into my room, it was nothing like what I saw on the website. The staff, bellman, and valet were all friendly, but the rooms just aren't consistent. Overall, it was just okay. I probably wouldn't stay here again since we even had to switch rooms because of problems with the first one.
