I live in Charleston with tons of great BBQ options. However-Smoking Pig is still my all-time favorite! Everything is so good. I always get their Brunswick stew and chopped pork no matter what. All of their sides are delicious and if you like pork rinds, you NEED to take a bag home with you. Great atmosphere, great service, always recommend. One time a few years ago, I took a couple of friends here to try and they lost our order. We waited over an hour and finally said something to our server. They were extremely professional, the setup was beautiful, and they were ON TIME. The occasion was already stressful, and it was nice not having to track down the caterer when the time came. We got really lucky and there was no line or wait when we got there (I had heard the wait can be outrageous). We came around 8:30 on a Saturday evening - pretty late considering they close at 9:00 PM. They have a great fire going outside that is fun to warm up by when the night chills come in. The meat and all the sides are delicious. The portions are pretty big so a good trick is to order the kids meal, ask for a roll instead of a sandwich (the rolls are AMAZING by the way) and you get to pick a side. This ended up being only $7 with tax and tip -- what a steal. And it left me pleasantly satisfied. It is even cheaper to add an additional side if you are still hungry. I got the sweet potato crunch side - which was delicious. Sweet and smooth, this was one of the better sweet potato treats I have had. Oh goodness where do I start? My favorite is the brisket. I always order the Jr brisket sandwich with one side and go between the BEST potato salad and the Awesome sweet potato crunch...hard choice! Little secret not sure I really wanna share but you can ask for burnt ends and they will chop them in with your brisket and there's no need for sauce! Last visit I discovered they have outrageous corn bread! It's a little sweet but yummy and so moist and buttery! You also get a little teaser with pork rinds before your food arrives...yeah! I dream about this pulled pork. I first discovered The Smokin Pig as a student at Clemson. It was our go-to place on a Friday night or after games on Saturday. Then, it was just a small shack on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. As an adult, I have left the promised land (Clemson, for those of you wondering) and am living in a desolate space devoid of barbecue. I regularly find myself dreaming of their delicate and flavorful pulled pork, creamy sweet potato crunch (the crunch is brown sugar and cinnamon and is so heavenly it'll make you say a prayer of thanks to the Heavens above), and collards. Every time I return, something is new: lawn games outside, a new spacious inside, and a crowd even bigger than the last time. But there's a reason for that: this is the best barbecue in the nation, hands down. I absolutely love Smokin Pig. The food is great. The prices are decent. The price for the brisket recently went up, which caught me off guard when I ordered and it was higher than usual. But it was still worth it. There was even a time when I just wanted to grab takeout and the owner came outside and started talking to me and she was so friendly that I decided to stay and eat inside. True southern hospitality. I try not to go too often because I don't want to die too soon from clogged arteries. I love the brisket and pulled pork combination plate. Walked right in on a Friday night at 6:30, despite a full parking lot. Greeter at front door was extremely nice and helpful explaining how the place worked. My wife got the chicken sandwich with stew, chicken was really good but the stew was too smoky for our taste. My combo platter rated 3 for the ribs as they were over cooked and a bit too charred, 4 for the pulled pork that was moist and tasty even without sauce and 5 for the brisket.
