I decided to splurge a little bit while I was in Hong Kong. Normally, I would've just opt for street food, but being that my husband was iffy on eating street food, we decided on The Sky Bar.
For a couple living in NJ, The Sky Bar was definitely a restaurant worth trying. The decor, which we found to be awesome, really helped with the dining experience. While some may think the decor is anything but unique, my husband and I found it special...like I said, we're from NJ ;)
Anyways, the restaurant is located on the 13th floor of the mall. Seated at the top floor, the ceiling created the "sky" feeling. Around the restaurant were multiple other bars and restaurants depending on your palette.
The menu- offers a variety of items with a mix of Asian/American. What I enjoyed most about the menu was the "semi-buffet" style dinner offered...this meant that with your choice of entree, it comes with a salad/dessert bar. Although I can't remember the exact names of the items we ordered, I can sure describe it. My husband opt for a rib eye steak, which came with perfectly cooked mashed potato and veggies. The waitress came by with at least 5-6 steak sauces of your choice. I would suggest you all try it with the mint sauce! I ordered a pasta with chicken, cooked with an Asian spin to the chicken. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The chicken in my pasta had the right amount of juiciness with a crispy skin finish. The rib eye steak had a little too much fat but was cooked perfectly without it being too chewy and dry. The salad bar offered a variety of soups, salads, cheese & crackers. I'd have to say the dessert bar was lacking, so I wouldn't suggest you try the dessert bar unless it looks fresh.
The waitstaff- super friendly and helpful. Some of them may not speak English so I would just be aware of that if you're asking for them to make something specific. My husband asked for a glass of whiskey which they do no provide. The only alcoholic beverage offered as their Asahi beer. Anyways, the waitstaff was really attentive and helpful in explaining what came on the menu.
The price- I have to say it IS on the higher price range. Between two people with two entrees and two drink orders, the bill came out to under 700HKD, which is just under $100USD. Like I said, my husband and I wanted to splurge a little bit. Were there other restaurants that might've been better with better prices? Probably, but we were already in the area and it was getting late. Finding a place to serve would've been a bit more difficult.
I would suggest this place if you're looking for a nice date night in a mall setting. There ARE other restaurants available if the menu selections aren't to your liking. One thing I LOVED about this place was the strawberry yacult drink I ordered. If you're familiar with Yacult, definitely try the strawberry one!
Overall, the restaurant was great. It was clean with a friendly waitstaff. It also helps that the place provides a box underneath the chairs to place your personal belongings, things I don't experience in NJ :p read more
