I loved that this was an old school joint in old town Buckeye. My sister and I split the chicken fried steak breakfast and it was a good sized portion. The chicken fried steak itself was delicious! The gravy was very tasty as well. As for the home fries they lacked major flavor. In California we are used to home fries with peppers, onions, and seasonings. The biscuit left much to be desired. This was our first visit to The Sheep Camp. Many neighbors have talked about it and the reviews appeared positive and I'm all about supporting small business. I had read there can be a wait- there was and it was only about 15 minutes. You do have to stand outside or wait in your car as there isn't a waiting area inside. The hubby and I ordered breakfast. He ordered the corned beef hash. He is VERY particular about his hash- and he liked it! He had eggs, fried potatoes and biscuit as the sides. Eggs were perfect but the potatoes were undercooked and hard. He also ordered coffee and water. I ordered the pancake breakfast. The pancakes were beautiful, light, and fluffy with a good flavor. My eggs were also cooked perfectly and the bacon! Mmm! The bacon! 2 slices of thick cut bacon with the right portion of meat and fat on each slice! Bacon heaven! And I ordered iced tea, which tasted great! The negative, our server spoke so quietly and the low roar of everyone talking made it difficult to hear what she was saying. Part of my husband's meal was forgotten and we had to ask for it- by the time we got it, he had already finished all but 2-3 bites of his meal. He had also asked for a glass of water that he never received. And, our server only checked on us once, I wanted a refill on the $4 glad of iced tea but couldn't get the servers attention as she was standing in the back behind the partition- when she did walk past, we were seemingly ignored. Overall, I was disappointed in the lack of attentiveness of the server after reading the reviews of how kind and attentive the staff are. It was $40 for 2 breakfast meals, including $4 for a drink (that was never refilled). If you are looking to support a local business that has a decent breakfast and- only based on this experience- mediocre service, then I recommend trying this place at least once. read more

One of those places you just hate to mention for fear it will get too popular. This is a gem hidden away on MC 85. The food is right out your grandma's kitchen. The biscuits are huge and sooooo tasty. Add the milk sausage gravy - yum yum. The staff is attentive, friendly and so fun. The diner is not fancy - but clean and tastefully decorated. Threw my camera gear, in the truck, and headed towards Gillespie Dam, this morning, and realized, I forgot to eat breakfast. By the time I arrived in Buckeye, Az. it was 1 o'clock. But, my stomach reminded me, it has been Friday afternoon, since the needle on the gauge, was on full. I had jumped off the freeway, in Goodyear, Az. As it's always been my habit, to take the less traveled route, when I'm looking for a place, to use my cameras. As I came into Buckeye, I saw a sign that said Sheep Camp, on my right, so I pulled in, the parking lot. As I entered, Sheep Camp, I was immediately greeted, by a very busy lady, that told me to take any table , that i'd like. As soon as I sat down, I realized, Sheep Camp, was a very, well oiled machine. There were only two empty tables available. So I knew, this was a popular hangout, for the locals. The place smelled like the restaurant, my Mom, use to own. So I was looking forward, to eating. I ordered the Patty Melt, with fries & a glass of iced tea. My ordered was served, in no time at all. When I took that first bite of my sandwich, I thought I was in heaven. I haven't tasted ground beef, that good, since 1969. I know that sounds unrealistic. But I enjoyed that meal, so much, I hated to finish. Out of 5 stars, I give this place, 6 stars. For the food, the service & ambiance. Sheep Camp, is the reason, I keep my radar on, for hole in the wall, cafe's. The waitress, treated me like I had been coming in there, all my life. If you're headed to California, or Yuma, via the I-10 west. This gem, is well worth the short detour. Almost, makes me wish I lived in Buckeye, Az. No! Not really. This roadside greasy spoon is exactly that... a greasy spoon and local favorite. The server and patrons all knew one another (except for my partner and I). I have lived in Buckeye now for nearly 12 years and have wanted to visit the Sheep Camp but it always seemed packed for a smaller restaurant whenever I planned to go. Anyway I finally made it there for lunch and enjoyed a good fish sandwich with some great potato salad! The fish was just basic fried cod but tasted good. But the bun was really nice and sandwich was loaded with lettuce, tomato and I think pickles (I guess I ate it so fast I can't remember) Looking forward to going again. We're always down to try new spots even if it's a bit of a drive. There's some great local spots in Buckeye and with the town growing it's been cool to check out some spots both new and old. Sheep Camp has been here for decades from what I can gather and the look on the outside shows it. The parking lot is small and I can see it fill up quick on the weekend. The inside is not much larger and when we walk in you're smack dab practically on top of the tables. The inside decor is pretty basic but does look like it's been upgraded a little recently. There's a little sign on the wall saying wait or be seated so we did just that. Multiple employees were around talking to others and such, a few looked right at us and it took a few minutes to be greeted or anything while they talked or other customers and such. You can definitely tell it's a local spot with many of the customers being called by name. We were then told we could sit where available. There were only two tables open so we chose a back booth. A server quickly came to take our drink order and gave us some menus to look over. The menu isn't very large, but has some good options. I liked that they had hash browns since I'm not a fan of home fries. They had some good combo plates and such but they don't come with potatoes so I chose the two egg and bacon meal which comes with hash browns and toast, English muffin or a biscuit. We also ordered a two egg and sausage, side of biscuits and gravy as well as country fried steak that some other reviewers said was good and happens to my all my boys go to for breakfast when out. Everything came out pretty quick. The biscuit was huge and the gravy had a good amount of meat to it. The flavor was good and biscuit baked well. It was a bit heavy for me so I only had a few bites. It's definitely not eating light ha ha. My son said his chicken fried steak was one of the best he's ever had. He said it was easy to cut into and not chewy and over cooked like many places. Our eggs was cooked well to our liking, toast perfect and bacon crisp. My hash browns had good flavor, but I think they should've been cooked a bit longer. Service was ok. They really focused on the obvious frequent customers and we sat for a bit waiting on refills and to pay our check. It wasn't the worst service but dedicated improve.
