I did not have high hopes when I saw how extensive the menu was. It was one of the few delivery options available so we got pizza and a cheesesteak, both were really good. Since we did takeout, I can't comment on the service or the ambience, but I would definitely be willing to try some other things in the future. read more

I am writing this review as I am local and want them to succeed. I got a Bistex Ala Mexicana a few days and the food was great and the service was amazing. The waiter was Quick to ask if you needed anything else or refill the glass. Tonight was totally different. My wife and I were the only ones in the restaurant then a family of 4 showed up late in the meal. 20 minutes after my wife ordered ,and after her salad came out they said they did not have what she ordered. Not one time did the waiter come back and ask how things were or even offer a refill on the drinks. I had to go and ask for the check. This was a tale of 2 totally different meals? Again I hope they succeed because the Mexican food is authentic and very good as the Steak Barreto I got was very good. read more

My kids and I went here recently. The overall experience was a letdown in multiple ways. Coming from San Diego, I thought I would try the East Coast version of fish tacos. It took about 20 minutes for the food to come, even though there were only four other people inside. No biggie though, as things sometimes take time. The mahi tacos came out with what appeared to be shredded mahi, instead of the usual steaks that I'm used to. The beans were incredibly runny and some odd purple color. My daughter, who often orders mac & cheese, ordered that here. It came out incredibly soupy and appeared as if they used Kraft and had simply mixed in twice the recommended amount of milk. Ultimately, the manager refunded our purchase of the Mac and cheese. He stated that they ordered a new type of cheese that didn't really work out. But, why would you then serve it to customers if it didn't meet your standards? read more

Had a very good lunch at the shack including great and attentive service in their tented outdoor dining area. Try the roasted green beans (came loaded with garlic aioli so next time I will get it on the side) - so sweet and good. The veggie Panini is terrific too. Shrimp cocktail is standard and very fresh. Enjoyable, tasty food. Great for lunch or a casual dinner. Next time we go, I wanna try the roasted brussels sprouts. Those roasted green beans were delicious! Exceeded expectations. read more

Why this has a 3 star rating is a mystery to me... the place is super casual and seemed to have had more locals dining there than visitors. I took that as a good sign. The menu has diverse offerings - I would call it mainly a Mexican place with Italian options - among other things. I had the grilled chicken entree with vegetables and a salad. It was quite delicious! Chicken was pounded thin and they give you a generous portion. The steamed veggies which consisted of broccoli and carrots were really good - super fresh. My two friends had Italian dishes that they enjoyed. Our server was helpful - the food came out fast and the prices were reasonable. Check this place out!! read more

This is a very family-friendly, casual restaurant close to all the Beach Haven hot spots. The food is excellent, scratch made with fresh ingredients. The service is attentive and kind. I'm not sure if it is family-owned but it feels that way when you're there. Highly recommend! read more

Oooohhhhh yeah I'm a fan! Feeling like dins in on a rainy Monday we decided pizza takeout was in order and decided to give The Shack a try for the first time. Called in the order, 15 minutes to pick up, arrived, pizza ready, out the door we were! We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they run a special on pies on Monday's so score for us, and score for all that read this. Now the pie itself, even though they got my toppings wrong, you can't really mess up pizza bc well, it's pizza, our pie was DELICIOUS! Great sauce. Plentiful amount of toppings. And such a unique crust that was thin yet still chewy. Super huge fan. Will surely order again. Especially on a Monday! read more

Love this local spot! It's open year round and has so many different types of food so that you're hardly bored. My go to is the grilled chicken Florentine wrap. They happen to be the only place in the area that doesn't just have fried heavy food. Also love how nice the girls are that work here. They always make you smile. read more

We have gone back a few times recently and the service is better. The price is good especially with all the other places that overcharge for mediocre food. Got a veggie burger to go. Burger and roll were dry and tough, lettuce was white, tomato was pale. Fries probably were fine, but I let them sit in the container so they got soggy. I ate the whole thing because I'll eat anything. But then I woke up in the middle of the night and was sick for 30 minutes. Overall not a good experience. White wine came out warm and when we sent it back it took 30 minutes to bring out a cold new one that was served to the table uncorked. The Shack is just OK. I am not going to go on a tear but really, everything is just OK, not good but not bad either. Do not get the NE clam Chowder. I had a Cubin sandwich, it was a little dry, needed maybe more cheese to hold it together and definitely hotter. The nachos were good, I think they make their own chips, very good. Overall, the staff was friendly, the service was OK and I left full. It is not a WOW experience in any way but it's called "The Shack" so it is what it is. read more

This was our first visit to this establishment. We have been coming to Beach Haven for over 30 years and have dined at almost every restaurant in the area. The Shack is definitely a welcome addition to Long Beach Island. This is the former location of O'Malley's which was devastated after Hurricane Sandy. The space is completely renovated with lots of seating. It's well lit and has two large flat screens. The atmosphere is lively and it gets a little loud but you can always hear everyone at your table. The menu selections offer something for everyone. From pizzas and pastas to sandwiches and dinners. The Brussel sprouts with the garlic aioli is an amazing appetizer. The fish tacos are really good and so is the pasta. We had the linguine with calamari in a fra Diablo sauce. Amazing. The burgers are also great as was the sesame encrusted salmon. It's BYOB but the also off beverages including fresh brewed iced tea. If your on the island and in the Beach Haven area stop in. The food is great and priced reasonable for the type of fresh food served and given your in LBI. read more

Had a really nice inexpensive lunch here which was quite enjoyable. It was just a humble chicken parm on a hero with fries and soda, which I ate at the outside counter on the sidewalk outside. Nothing extravagant or fancy but real food at a great price. I do recommend it. read more

Ok ended up coming to The Shack on a whim on a Friday night ..."due to everything else having a hour plus wait" Upon going in it was completely empty. I wasn't about to say no to that. It had the appeal of a small family run place. The menu is pretty big lots of choices that range. I was feeling particularly gamblish so I got the mussels in a white wine sauce. The hubbs got Buffalo chicken dip and our kid got chicken fingers. The mussels were actually amazing especially with crusty bread and the Buffalo dip was pretty good as well ... chicken fingers ... well ya can't mess them up For dinner my boys both ordered fettuccine Alfredo abs I "in spite of the massive menu" ordered chicken piccata...ya know the funny thing about chicken piccata is I had it once about 6 years ago and loved it and every time since .... blah.... this time it was ok but I really can't blame the restaurant... the Alfredo on the other hand was delicious ... the meals came with salads or soup salad was great but the soup was cold. All in all it wasn't a perfect meal and granted we got there at the end of the night and I'm sure they were ready to get out of dodge everything else was pretty good. I'd definitely give this place another whirl. read more

Had a PizzaBurger and it was DELICIOUS!!! Fries were also very tasty. My friend had the Chicken Caesar Salad with chicken and she said it was very good! We were seated right away. The place was quite crowded and I noticed there was constantly people picking up takeout. The dining area is not huge and can get quite noisy due to a lot of families with kids, but this place is definitely a great place to take your kids. All the plates of food that passed by me looked tasty. They have a bit of everything here, burgers, pizza, salads, steaks, tacos and a lot more. Waitress was friendly. I'll definitely be coming back. We ordered take-out meals from The Shack recently and we're extremely disappointed. First,there is no website or menu online and when I called and asked about this, the person on the phone said I should just come in and eat there at a table! I ordered fish (mahi-mahi) tacos for $14.00 and when we opened them at home there were little tiny bits of fish and a small amount of slaw. If you put all the scrapings of fish together you might get two spoonfuls (divided into 3 tacos) I wanted to drive back in and get my money back, but didn't have the time. As they are located in a seasonal town and there is not much competition in the area I guess they feel they can rip off their customers. Well, I won't be returning. This is unacceptable! read more

I'm giving this a 4 star as I've been waiting and hoping that this place would reopen and serve pizza that was just as good as O'Malley's and Basil's before it. The place was wiped out in Hurricane Sandy, so my friends and I, have been seriously hoping that they would reopen and serve not only pizza but the same kind of pizza as its predecessors. My prayers were answered. They make ome of the best thin crust pizza I have ever eaten. However, the 4 stars go towards bad service. This is most likely the best "fast food" joint there is around. I ordered the Shack Burger and it tasted great. Their fries with cheese is the bomb! So yummy, especially that it wasn't that salty. In the past, I had cheese sauce on the saltier side. I also had their beer, Shack Meister and it had a very clean taste. It wasn't bitter at all. It felt so good to splurge on the calories with a juicy burger and a crisp ale to wash down. I would go back here if I wanted to splurge on calories again. read more

Do NOT eat here if you have allergies!! Our party came in this evening with 2 people with allergies, one mild, one severe. Both were served food they were allergic to, even after multiple reminders to the wait staff about the allergies, and multiple trips to the kitchen to ask if dishes had the allergen in it. One of us did not get to eat at all, the other was uncomfortable for hours that night. The worst part was the way the staff handled it. The owner and manager did not apologize (the waitress, though obviously inexperienced, tried to). Management claimed it was our fault, and that we did not specifically ask if the allergen was in each part of the dish. (That should be completely unnecessary in this day and age.) This is not acceptable behavior for management, or acceptable customer service. Spend your money somewhere that cares about their customers! read more
