Extra! Extra!! Newspapers & more - Juan from Marfa is serving food MAINTENANT! The house-made Chorizo Breakfast Taco NEEDS MORE meat, maybe some queso. Dry goods are on-brand, exceptional to have, hold, or gift. Casual indoor/outdoor areas (front & back) provide laid-back space for community, maybe take a friend to the Judd!

Local pamphlets, teas, mugs and other local items.

My first morning in Marfa called for strong coffee and something warm after an eight-hour drive the day before. Getting there, though, felt like stepping backward in time--partly paved roads, weathered buildings, and aging homes that quietly carry the town's long history. Then, almost abruptly, Sentinel Marfa appears as a striking contrast. The building is crisp and modernist, the kind of clean, intentional design you'd expect in a big-city neighborhood, not tucked into a rugged, historic West Texas landscape. Inside, that contrast continues. The high ceilings and open, airy layout give the space a contemporary calm, while scattered tables display local art, newspapers, and small curios that root it firmly in Marfa's creative spirit. A hallway beside the ordering counter leads to a quieter back room, which in turn opens to an outdoor area shaded by a massive oak tree. The place was buzzing, full enough that we ended up sharing a table with another family, which somehow felt fitting in a town like this. Coffee is ordered at the counter, with both staff and baristas displaying some of that West Texas charm and with a smile. Drinks are picked up at the counter while food finds its way to you. The coffee drinks are crafted with beans from Picacho Coffee Roasters. Straight coffee and lattes were exceptional, and the breakfast tacos, made fresh with fluffy eggs, cheese, and potatoes, delivered exactly what we needed. By the time we left, we felt not just caffeinated, but welcomed and ready to explore a place where time seems to move at its own deliberate pace.

Stopped in for breakfast & coffee on a day trip to Marfa. Long line but well worth it. Lovely cozy space tastefully designed to reflect the artsy desert vibes of Marfa. Spanish latte was fantastic. Breakfast plate was hearty and delicious - crispy bacon, fluffy eggs, potatoes, and fresh sourdough bread with homemade preserves. Great little spot.

This is the place where street parking is free and the artist journey in Marfa begins. We enjoyed a proper lunch with Mexican cokes and a very relaxed vibe here. After browsing the books and wares, I picked up a few. I ordered the beef tacos, which are street style with small corn tortillas, plenty of beef, chopped onions and cilantro. The sauce was medium spicy and absolutely worth it. It is a little pricey for what I am used to, but the tacos were just perfect. We will look for this place next time we travel here.

We left our basecamp in Alpine and headed to Marfa specifically to visit Marfa Spirits. It was closed. We had heard good things about Sentinel Marfa, so we went. The inside is large and inviting. Oh, it had great air conditioning. We ordered a couple of cappuccinos and they were very good. As we were drinking our coffee we decided to look at the menu and the daily chalkboard. We ordered a steak fajita quesadilla. It was large and plenty to split. Hot and delicious. The kitchen is a small room and two ladies were busy with orders, yet very cordial. The Sentinel also serves cocktails, but we didn't try one. I highly recommend.

Great place! We stopped in Marfa on our drive from El Paso to Big Bend NP. This place was perfect! Very cute on the inside and casual with different seating options. The food and coffee was fantastic! The steak quesadilla was very filling.

The dining area. There is also outside seating

We walked through Marfa for a morning outing and walked into a taste of the old West with a coffee bar. We ordered a simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. It was presented beautifully on a rustic plate. The service at the coffee bar was friendly and helpful. The interesting part of the shop is that it was the location of the Sentinel Newspaper in Marfa. I always enjoy the historical aspects of a location. The place is filled with hand made gifts and reflections of a time passed! I would certainly put this place on my stop in Marfa for the future. Yes, breakfast was yummy!

Christa M.

The shop is very large and has a clean esthetic. The coffee is really good, had the Spanish latte. Perfect temperature and not too sweet. Bought a blanket and a sticker, but could have spent much more. They have lots of cute handmade items for purchase.

The Sentinel Marfa is a newspaper, bar, restaurant, coffee shop, and event venue packed into one large building in Marfa, TX. Before we headed out of town, I street-parked for my daily caffeine fix on 2.17.2025. The white structure has adobe-meets-bohemian vibes all the way from its decor to its airy, tall ceilings to the art supplies and other artisan gifts for sale on the oversized tables near the front entrance. When my daughter and I popped in, service was friendly albeit a bit sluggish. This would probably be one of my favorite hang outs due to a variety of seating areas including a spot for me and my mostly well-behaved canine on the small patio. The only things I would change... - speed service up a bit - offer large sizes The drinks were very well made, though! + 1 Lavender latte + 2 Cappuccinos + 1 Big Bend Sentinel newspaper Total = $16.66 RATING BREAKDOWN Drinks: 5 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 5 | Price: 4

This is the home of the newspaper! Well, two newspapers actually (Sentinel and Presidio). We love it here for breakfast when in town. It's a lot larger than it looks too. There is a small outdoor patio at the front door and a small seating area with table when you walk in and order at the counter. But that leads to a larger seating area off to the side and a large back patio too. The architecture is authentic adobe which just adds to the charm. The menu is as inviting as the design and architecture. Offerings include breakfast and brunch fare with a variety of coffee options, teas, cocktails, and mocktails. Baked goods, eggs, pancake, etc. A wonderfully eclectic establishment that also sells books, memorabilia, limited edition clothing (those jumpsuits!!!) and more.

Royce S.

A very nice coffee shop which helps support the local paper. I had the Cortado which was delicious, hot and wakes you up. I love the atmosphere of the place, plenty of seating to include outside seating

Gift shop, art gallery, newspaper publisher, and coffee shop, all in one spare, beautiful building with an attractive outdoor dining space. Excellent lattes, breakfast tacos almost as good as we get back home in San Antonio! (And nobody does breakfast tacos as well as San Antonio). Highly recommend. Very Marfa. read more

Judging from the exterior, I was very surprised how cute this is inside. The food was good, however my quesadilla arrived nearly 30 minutes before my husband's tacos. She didn't even acknowledge him when he asked for a status. Checked kitchen, checked register and went back to kitchen. When they finally arrived, she barely stopped long enough to place on the table. Also, plain iced tea was so florally flavored it wasn't drinkable read more

Went around 5 for dinner, they don't serve food until 6. Stayed around until 6 since everything else was closed, and the menu consisted of: Chips and Salsa Guac & Chips Some soup Chilaquiles We were hungry so we said screw it, and got 2 orders of the Chilaquiles, and an order of the Chips and Salsa. Chips were super stale, which makes sense why they were serving Chilaquiles. Food was meh, pricing was meh, place was pretty packed so service wasn't great. Really eh overall. Bar selection was good and drinks were good. Really the saving grace of the place. read more

If you're passing threw Marfa, TX don't go here. I was excited to find this cute coffee shop with great reviews in Marfa. I ordered a coffee and a breakfast taco (tasted average). They didn't have indoor seating so we had to sit outside to get some work done. It was 35 degrees... they had the outside fire going and turned on the propane heaters after a few people asked them to turn it on, but you didn't feel it from your seating area. It. Was. cold. But that wasn't what made us upset....they didn't have restrooms open for customers, staff only. They suggested we walk a quarter of a mile to a laundromat or gas station instead. It's a coffee shop, open your restrooms to your customers! read more

The Sentinel is a really cool place. Having it in the middle of the local newspaper location is a great concept. It has a cool vibe. We had two specialty coffees and two scones. Both were acceptable, but not worth the $25 (with tip) we spent. Do yourself a favor and go to the Stripes Gas Station nearby and get cheap coffee and breakfast tacos. read more

‼WILL NEVER RECCOMMEND‼ Tiny portions for a large price... but more importantly, AWFUL customer service. I've never been so disrespected in an establishment before. As tourists, we weren't sure what entrance to go in. But the door we came in had no signs, and certainly not one about wearing a mask. My fiancé and I had already walked around, past many employees, stood in line, and then once we got second in line, my fiancé heard the barista tell OTHER CUSTOMERS, that we weren't wearing masks because "it's entitlement". Me, being hard of hearing... completely missed that but was soon being screamed at to put a mask on. Which, hey, thanks for screaming... couldn't read your lips, but your dramatic, disrespectful gestures got your point across to my deaf self. To that employee, it wasn't entitlement, it was lack of knowledge, seeing as you failed to put a sign on every entrance. If I told you I rely on reading lips to understand people would you really care anyways? So upset and sick about the experience. Will never recommend or go there again. I hate basing reviews on one bad employee but it's definitely just the cherry on top to the mediocre food and coffee. read more

Forcing customers to wear a mask is ridiculous. We walked in and after being told to put one on, walked right back out. Cool setting. Nice folks. Good vibe. Unfortunately there is a disconnect between the front register and the kitchen. It took over one hour to get a single sandwich. One is given a number flag for table delivery. We were in relaxed-mode so we slowly sipped our latte slowly at the first picnic table just outside the door and didn't even return to the register until about 40 minutes had passed without the food. But when we did and were told our order was 'next' it still didn't arrive. So we returned to the register a second time after about twenty five minutes and this time waited at the register. They were mortified and apologetic and offered to make us an extra, which was appreciated but declined given we didn't want to overeat. The eggplant sandwich was delicious and satisfying once we got it. So I would highly recommend this restaurant. The one caveat would be if you don't see your food in a reasonable amount of time, and you are on any type of schedule, then you may have to be assertive about it until they work out whatever's up within the fulfillment part of the equation. :) read more

My husband and I were driving back to Austin from California and decided to pull over, catch a basketball game, and grab a bite to eat. What we didn't expect was one of the most genuinely welcoming experiences we've had on the road. From the moment we walked in, every single person we encountered was incredibly kind, warm, and inviting. It didn't feel like we were just customers passing through--it felt like we were being welcomed into a community. The food was fantastic! The street tacos were hands-down the highlight--fresh, flavorful, and some of the best we've had anywhere. And the prices were more than fair. One of the most memorable parts of our visit was being given a tour of the backyard area. The team shared that it had recently suffered a fire, but they were still proud to show us the space and even invited us back once it's fully restored. That kind of openness and resilience really stuck with us. Oh--and we can't forget Tito and Becky, the two sweetest cats who made the experience even more special. Went here when it was very busy. First off, the staff were very friendly even when there was a non-stop line. They were nice enough to let us know that there was a bit of a wait for food, which is not a big issue. The food came quicker than they mentioned and was amazing. We got the Spanish Latte and the Pumpkin Spice latte which were both made perfectly. I'm usually very picky when it comes to coffee but the espresso was flavorful and you could tell that they knew how to pull a shot. food and coffee prices were average for the area, and we got a few retail items. I will say that the retail items are a bit pricey and would love to see more items that were cheaper. Not everyone wants to purchase exorbitantly priced items. The ambiance of the location is fantastic, I love the building and how it's designed and laid out. **I do want to take the time to respond to a 1 star review I just saw by Kahlee (she has her name out there so I feel as if this isn't an issue to name her). I was there when this happened, she made a huge scene in a room full of people. She was far from friendly and you could tell she has done this before and probably expected free food. I will say that this review had nothing to do with the server or staff, they were nothing but accommodating to us and I'm sure to her as well. It's a bit sad to see someone leave a review like this just to get attention and free items so I would take this review with a grain of salt. Also to give a staff's name out online is not classy and downright wrong. Besides that, we had a very pleasant experience here and will definitely be back! read more

So today my wife and son went there and the owner decided to harass my wife and 10yr old child over the review I left that is neither their responsibility he made them both feel uncomfortable. What kind of a man makes a woman and child feel threatened not a real man. Instead of being a responsible owner and taking care of problems and reaching out to guest about what went wrong he decided not once( the first time being when they ordered )but twice approaching them at the table while they were eating like the first time just wasn't enough for him. My wife offered my number for him to call me and share his thoughts but he said no , apparently a mother and child are easier prey to victimize ,to vent out your hostility and frustration. What kind of man acts like this you may ask. This man ,The owner (Max Kabat) from New York , here is a photo of this wonderful human being that not only believes in unsanitary practices he firmly believes in badgering innocent women and children. read more

The Sentinel in Marfa is a must-visit spot for breakfast. We stopped in and were not disappointed. We ordered the Breakfast Plate, which comes with two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast with organic jam - everything was cooked perfectly and hit the spot. We also tried the Breakfast Taco with potato, egg, and bacon, and it was fantastic. The Golden Milk Latte was a standout - a delicious blend of cayenne, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, honey, espresso, and whole milk. It was flavorful and warming, a perfect complement to the meal. We finished off breakfast with a chocolate chip cookie that was absolutely delicious. Get them while they last! The vibe at The Sentinel is relaxing and the staff are great, making it an awesome place to start your day. Don't forget to pick up a copy of the local newspaper while you're there. If you're in Marfa, make sure to check this place out. read more

After waiting around 10 minutes just for someone in our party to grab menus, we were eventually served water and later had our orders taken. However, the overall attitude and repeated glares from the waitress/bartender, Gary Jean, made the experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Good service goes a long way, and basic kindness shouldn't feel like too much to ask. It became clear that receiving decent service was going to be more effort than it should have been, so we decided to leave before our food even arrived. That said, it's a cool spot with great people and I'd happily go back. I ordered their signature breakfast sandwich, egg, bacon, and cheese on a biscuit. It was good, not mind-blowing. The biscuit was a little dry, which was a bummer since that's supposed to be the star of the show. I kept wishing for some butter or sauce to bring it together. On the flip side, I also grabbed a slice of cake and that was excellent, easily my favorite thing I ate there. For drinks, I got a matcha latte. They warned me the matcha was a bit earthy and suggested adding sweetener, which I did. I always wonder if "earthy" is code for lower-quality matcha, if ceremonial matcha doesn't really need sugar, but with the sweetener it was totally fine and enjoyable. The space itself is cute and very Marfa. It's in a converted gas station that's part coffee shop, part vintage clothing store, with vintage motorcycles to keep the gas station theme going. We started with a cup of Jalapeño and Cilantro Soup. It's a cream based soup. I couldn't detect much of any heat from the Jalapeños and the cilantro was pretty much hidden. Maybe a sprinkling of fresh cilantro on top would have made it more pronounced. It also needed to be served hot. We then got the 14oz Ribeye which came with mashed potatoes & green beans. This was a great plate of food! It came out hot! The person who brought it out waited until we cut into it to see if it was acceptable. We've never had any staff person do that for us before!
