This place was such a vibe. From the beautiful garden out back. To the bar area with the giant dried out agave stem. To the large open areas that were converted to a stage for a show. The chef was very friendly as I was there for a special reception. Bartenders were on top of drink orders and overall super friendly. Ohhhhhh boy. This place was a DREAM - from the charming Marfa-like decor to the unbelievably unique selection of food to the plating designs. Not to mention, my bestie and I were blown away with the incredibly personable service by Kasey with a "K" ;) and the overall epic ambiance. LOOK at the pics I attached, and tell me that doesn't look beautiful and delish? We got the pickled appetizer, the sardines, the shrimp and beans, and the homemade vanilla ice cream (which was my personal favorite - I've never tasted such a unique flavor in my LIFE). There was basically one guy at a grill making street tacos, and another guy bartending inside. We ordered the tacos, and they were amazing! We also had a couple cocktails which were good. To be honest, when my friend and I sat down at Capri the first night we were in town, we took one look at the slightly pretentious food menu (a small piece of cardstock, compared to the giant bar menu on a sheet of 8.5x11" paper) and at the people around us eating off of wooden slabs, and we left. We were not in that kind of mood after driving 6+ hours, and while I felt bad about it, we were able to make it to Capri a different night of our trip, and absolutely enjoyed our experience there. For one, the service was lovely. We were seated immediately without a reservation, our waiter was attentive and very polite, and the food was out quickly. Secondly, the ambiance is also lovely: the newness (built in 2014, I think?) really shows here, with the modern building, tall ceilings, wall of windows, gilded bar. And most importantly, the food was delicious. I had the duck confit with lentils and it was the perfect amount of food. While the menu isn't that great for vegetarians, the kitchen was very helpful with identifying potential food allergies for our party and recommended compliant dishes. I just think you really have to be in the mood for a place like this. read more

Marfa gets fancy! I'm going to give them 5 stars because of my experience and the location. My morning started out with a 6 hour hike up and down Guadalupe Peak, followed by a 2.5 hour drive to Marfa, then a fiasco checking into my motel. Once all that was straight, we planned to go to Pizza Foundation because we were dirty, sweaty, hungry bums but they were closed for Easter break. We drove down 90 and didn't see much open but Capri seemed to be poppin. We walked in and felt a little out of place as everyone was dressed pretty decent. We asked to be seated outside and they gave us one of the picnic tables located on their awesome patio. The waiter brought us a menu that at 1st glance was a little fru-fru bordering on pretentious. The waiter then brought us a basket of complimentary bread with strange flowery tasting olive oil. The menu was hard to read as it had several words in Spanish and even the English words I had to Google. We started off with drinks. My lady friend got a Hibiscus Margarita which was dark purple in color, not sweet at all and just slightly bitter. I got a Germaine which was a Bourbon cocktail with citrus juices. Tarty goodness. The lady friend and I split an entrée which ended up being half a smoky chicken with a spicy ragu on the side to dip in. It came with a garlic potato hash cake that was delicious! I could have eaten 4-5 of these alone. The real star of the meal was the dessert. We got a mesquite vanilla bean sorbet. It tasted as it sounds and may have been the best ice cream I have ever had. It doesn't sound like those flavors go together but they do!!! Tasted a little bit of a handful of items on the menu. Drinks seemed pretty good (although I only had a sip of friends') and I liked the outdoor atmosphere and seating. Come for drinks and sitting around with your friends but don't count on this as a dinner spot. The food took very long to come out though and the bartender didn't seem very service oriented. Apparently "that's the way it is" in Marfa but it doesn't make it acceptable especially if you expect to be a tourist spot. We had to pay for our food upfront by giving the card first which was weird especially since my friends said to keep the tab open since we weren't sure if we were done ordering yet. Also flies in the indoor bar area which were annoying. When you first show up - literally no one greets you and there are no signs on where to be seated or anything, I guess you just sit at the bar and wait and hope they come up to you. If you sat outside, I'm not sure how that even works. Breads came with great olive oil but the bread was just average. Pricey for what it is . Shrimp Chicharronnes are like shrimp chips basically, they did not taste bad but are overpriced. Went to Marfa for a bachelorette party. You never know what to expect with a small town and I set my expectations low, but I was pleasantly surprised with Capri Lounge. We stayed at the Thunderbird, arrived to town absolutely STARVING and was super grateful this place was open. The two servers were initially a little unprepared (no pen and paper between the two of them), but were on top of everything the remainder of the time and constantly checked up on us. We ordered almost everything off the menu but my personal favorites were: - Guacamole (more tostones necessary or a bunch of tortilla chips) - Roast chicken and potatoes (potatoes might slightly edge out the chicken ;) - Prosciutto and another slightly spicy meat from the charcuterie board There was a nice ambiance both inside and out. The garden was really cute! All the food was nicely plated/presented. I had a cocktail and while it was good, I regretted not getting Blanton's. I stopped by the following evening for a nightcap, but they were closing. :( read more

This is a special place with exceptional food, atmosphere, and service. While reservations are a good idea at many upscale restaurants in this area, Capri does not appear to take reservations, and instead greeted us warmly and found a table for our party. I could not resist the elegant but easy design of the dining room and bar (see pic). Our server was friendly and informative without being intrusive. We started with hibiscus margaritas that were served, like the water, in a charming pair of hand-etched glasses. (Presentation was lovely across the board. See more pics.) The white anchovies were delicious, although the olive and spicy pepper served with them weren't my favorite. The marinated watermelon radishes were served to look like a giant bloom, and had a wonderful flavor. Neither of these was a very filling item, of course, so we also had the tempura yucca blossoms, which was my favorite item. They were served in a cone made from the Capri menu with a dipping sauce. I cannot recommend them more highly. We also had the chapulines tacos, which were nice with a very strong smokey flavor. Chocolate ice cream was served with small wooden spoons and Vietnamese cinnamon, and was the perfect finish. Afterward, we wandered around in the garden outside. We sat down at one of the fire pits, and a friendly man (maybe an owner or manager?) came up and offered to take our group's picture (we had a camera out) and added some kindling to the fire. The garden also has hammocks, a water fixture, and an assortment of flora. After the perfect tasting meal and cocktails, we enjoyed sitting and talking in the outdoor space. My friend and I were in town on vacation during the week, so I don't know what the weekend scene would be like at Capri. Dinner here was a standout to a fantastic trip, and I hope I have the chance to return someday. read more

Very cool spot. I came for the douchey hipster sunglass bro, but alas, he is no longer working the window. Instead the owner's charming wife greets customers with welcoming gratitude. I ate the locally raised steak kabobs and enjoyed the hot meal on a blustery November afternoon. I tried to tell the bartender that I didn't like it so I could send it back and order something else, but they were nowhere to be found (during evening dinner rush on a Tuesday night). We are here on a Tuesday and a lot of the food trucks and small restaurants are closed. My wife and I love good food and drink. We strolled by with kids, 3 and 4 year old boys, and our waiter was encouraging. I wouldn't say it's "kid friendly", but it's doable with kids, because there are places to roam. The grounds are quite cool, and spacious, and we could make due. The drinks were great, we ate quickly, and we went and hung out in the gardens with a drink. It was much preferable to Subway or Mexican for us. The food was solid. The atmosphere was great. I would think of it more as a place to grab a drink and a snack with kids. We got our 4yo to eat some charcuterie and half a shrimp while we had a drink. read more

This is my first yelp review and the negative experience we had here finally pushed me to create an account. There were quite a few things that were terrible about this place; the uncomfortable atmosphere, rude service, and expensive cold and uneatable food to name a few. The pretentious waiter referred to us as "children" and continued to make snarky comments about how we weren't sharing our meals with each other. It was eerily quite with no music playing which gave the place a very somber vibe. We were literally whispering to each other the entire meal. Bottom line, don't go here if you want a decent meal in a fun atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and go to Stelina instead. read more

Extremely unfriendly and spoke so quietly you couldn't hear a word he said. I don't think he looked up once at us, took 25 minutes to get his attention so we could get the check, then he just tossed it on the table and walked away both times. If you hate customers so much, you probably shouldn't be working in the food industry. Also they didn't give us any separate plates, and yet you're expected to share the food on these weird platters. As someone who works in the food industry, I try not to judge service quality too harshly. Because I know how hard the job is... But I've never left a restaurant feeling so insulted. Our waiter was nice enough at first, we came in for lunch, and the entire restaurant had 3 tables seated. The menu looked good and we each ordered something from the entree section, ranging from fried chicken to squash soup to chile relleno. Nowhere on the menu does it say that these dishes are meant to be shared. (And how the heck are you supposed to share SOUP anyway?! especially when they only give you one spoon). Nonetheless, we were treated to snide remarks from the staff multiple times about the fact that we chose not to share our meals amongst the entire table. I left in utter disbelief that I had just paid $30 to be insulted about the way I want to eat my food. if you're still reading: - some of the food came out cold and no apology was given or replacement offered. the other food that came out at the correct temperature was generally good. - before the food came out, we were asked if we needed silverware. umm, shouldn't YOU, as our server, know what we need silverware for?? - atmosphere was ok but they didn't have any music playing so it was awkwardly quiet, really making us feel more uncomfortable than we already were read more

We had a great experience. Sat by the fireplace, ordered a bottle of red wine. Had some very nice authentic Mexican meal (menu changes frequently) and the service was also very generous and friendly. For Spring Break last week my best gay guy friend (Jimmy) flew into El Paso from San Francisco. We decided to spend a week touring West Texas. Marfa was our last stop. Boy howdy did it impress! Jimmy had been a bit disappointed with the gay scene in West Texas. I'd warned before he came that it wouldn't compare to San Francisco but he never believes any of my advice. LOL. I was relieved once we got to Marfa because there were so many hot men walking all over town and in all the establishments. I could see Jimmy brighten up once we got settled into town. And when we walked into Capri there were all sorts of hot men in there- bikers, nerds, artists, cowboys, middle aged dads, 20 something hipsters, business looking men, music types, etc. LOL. It had a very nice garden/outdoor seating area with a nice water feature. We didn't have a chance to try the kitchen as it was closed for a wedding that evening. But let me tell you Jimmy and I really enjoyed our afternoon at Capri. They had a drink menu with many options plus some great beers on tap. LOL. Sipping on a delicious hibiscus margarita while enjoying some smokes was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We both could finally leave all the problems we have at home and trust me we both have our fair share of issues (relationship, career, substance abuse, financial instability). LOL. Anyways I can't wait for my next trip to Marfa and definitely plan to come back to Capri. read more

We had high hopes coming in since this place was designed by Lake Flato and we weren't disappointed! They have a beautiful garden that transitions smoothly inside, where their wonderful staff is there to greet you. The menu looks intimidating, but everything we ordered was delicious! The elote is a must, the tamales are delicious and the verdolagas salad was a refreshing deviation from the norm. Full marks for drinks as well- they have a full bar. Went to the Capri on Halloween. Had the duck and my friend had the Rib-eye. Their mesquite-bean ice cream is delicious!!! Great atmosphere, the staff are really attentive and friendly. Definitely no reservations needed tonight but it picked up about 9:00 pm. Great setting. The patio was pleasant after the sun went down. There was a fire in the fire pits, a light smell of wood smoke and lightning in the distance. It wasn't cool to me but there was a gentleman in shorts and a sweatshirt which was great for July 1. The service was polite and relaxed. We asked at the bar if we should seat ourselves and were welcomed with a warm smile and "sit anywhere you like." We chose outside and walked around a bit. We ordered two appetizers; grilled avocado and mesquite dusted whole wheat sourdough bread with ash infuse Texas olive oil. The avocado was interesting and I don't usually eat much avocado. The description of the bread and oil was much more complex that the flavors in the bread and oil. For our entree I ordered beef carpaccio and my wife ordered tostado with huitlacoche and nopales. The flavor of the nopales overshadowed the huitlacoche which was regrettable. The carpaccio was excellent. Both were small plate and left room to try other dishes so we ended the night with a jackfruit sorbet. Neither of us were familiar with jackfruit and a sorbet seemed a good introduction. There could have been flavors added, I wouldn't know, but I didn't find any flavors or textures that I need to explore further. My wife thought she noted a hint of kerosene. The presentation was interesting, the sorbet never melted. read more

The space is quaint yet warm and inviting with a southwestern modern rustic vibe; the outdoor garden is lush and comforting. The drinks (Oaxacan old fashioned and spicy chihuahua) were balanced but a tad bit watered down. We decided to stay for dinner as we enjoyed the space and would have to say the foods were mixed. To start we had the crudité and cheese/charcuterie plates which were comparable to other plates at similar restaurants. For dinner we had both the duck and stuffed ancho pepper. The duck was not edible as it was tough and a tad bit cold, potentially due to being served on a block of wood. Despite the duck, we loved the stuffed ancho chili which had mole and turkey (paired very well with the oaxacan); this dish really played well with the ambiance. This place is an upscale "foodie" restaurant with reasonable prices and incredible ambiance. The building is repurposed rustic with a five star restaurant dining experience. There are several fire pits and many hammocks around the well landscaped outside area. They only have a few dishes but they are intricate and tasty. I split the 52 ounce steak between three people for around $15 per person. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned properly. Others at the table ordered the pork stew for $12 which was a smaller portion but also very good. We didn't have any drinks but they are apparently very good as at least 51 percent of the restaurants revenue comes from alcohol. All in all it was a great fine dining experience for a reasonable price in the great little town of Marfa Texas. read more

I went to Capri for a the weekend the Robert Irwin exhibit opened, and to my surprise, there was no wait to get a table at a prime dinner time. My first reaction was how quaint the outdoor patio looked, but decided to sit at the bar with my friend instead. We had decided before this trip to try a little bit of everything and sharing as much as possible at each restaurant we stepped in to, so we followed suite with this idea of ordered appetizers at the bar. First, we ordered a cocktail, of course. I ordered the "Mexican in Paris", which was tequila (I'm a tequila lover!) and champagne with a slither of lime inside. It was a delicious drink, considering it's odd combination of ingredients. I felt like a Mexican in Paris. He ordered a dirty martini extra dry. He loved it, and that's saying a lot for a very particular martini connoisseur. Both drinks came in what looked like margarita glasses. The food items we chose were the charcuterie board and the cheese board. I was specifically impressed with the blue cheese, and the honey drizzled on the side. We also ordered a basket of bread. The toast on the cheese board, however, would have been enough for us. All items we ordered were pleasant. I'm not much of a meat eater, but my friend loved the charcuterie. I ate bread and cheese and enjoyed my Mexican bev. The bartenders all seemed to be really nice, and friendly, talking about the local hot spots, and personal stories of growing up in West Texas. After dinner, my friend and I went to the garden outside of the restaurant and laid in the hammock. The view of the stars and the full moon that night made for a special ending to our dinner. Overall, I rate the ambiance of the place excellent. Food selections are skim, and a little overpriced. But it's Marfa, and understood. We found this place by recommendation of the visitor's center- and what a gem! We smelled it before we saw it, a cute venue with enticing smokers tucked behind a beautiful courtyard. Today's menu had some tantalizing selections but I was bummed to see they were all out of the candied bacon for Sweet Pig Sammy- probably for good reason! (I mean UMPHF!) I voiced my disappointment and presto-change-o! They made it happen for me, with a small wait- and gosh, was it worth it. The sandwich was exquisite. We waited for 10-15 minutes at the bar and was completely ignored while the bar tender was laughing and conversing with the 3 other people. We didn't get any service even though he definitely noticed us. After waiting for awhile we finally decided to go else where. As we walked out, 2 people came in and the bartender immediately asked what he could get for them. We didn't understand what we did for us to be treated and ignored the way we were. Simply kafkaesque, almost funny in a perverse way except for it being true. Our server was friendly enough at first, but the experience soon turned into a train wreck. There is too much too say, so I will focus on one point. The fried chicken was served room temperature. Our waiter tells us that they made it a few hours ago and that is how they normally serve it. No way. Leaving prepared hot food out at room temp for hours is a CRITICAL VIOLATION of the health code. Hot prepared food must be brought to under 40 degrees to prevent the spread of food borne illness. Hot food must be served to order or kept at 135 degrees. One member of our group returned his chicken, and the waiter never even asked if he wanted anything else. Another guest had to walk inside to get silverware for her meal. 5 star quality hands down! From the decor, the staff, to the food. This restaurant is such a unique and memorable experience. The pickle plate was awesome, along with the duck and salads.
