I had a great experience attending a recent Tinned Fish Tasting at Public Smokehouse. I checked in…read morewith the young woman tending the register and she gave me the lay of the land as well as a souvenir tasting fork of my choice. There were a few designs to choose from: a lobster, an oyster, and a fish, from what I can recall. She also introduced me to our gracious host for the evening, Nolan, who was running the show. Nolan is a big ball of energy and a joy to be around. He set the vibes to light, fun and whimsical and I really appreciated that. Everyone moved around the room freely, visiting all of the tasting stations that were set up with whimsical, hand-drawn decorations on the paper tablecloths (much like that seen on the Pinterest commercial). There were 6 different ones, all with multiple options at each station. I tried sardines, razor clams, pickled ramps, an entire array of Fishwife tinned items, mustards, seafood dip that is made in-house, oysters, the list goes on. They also introduced me to an Indiana-based soda company call Bollygood, with Indian-inspired flavors. I love, love, love the Lime Basil Cumin flavor. I wasn't too sure about that combo, but it was delicious and super-refreshing. It smelled like a taco...but didn't taste like one! The Lemon Mango Turmeric was really good too. I also enjoyed the demonstrations lead by Chef Amber. She also has a light that was a pleasure to witness. I could just tell that she really loves what she does. While she does not work there, she still gets to come back for the fun stuff (her words). She has been a huge influence on the whole tinned fish movement at the smokehouse and develops recipes and curates these events alongside Nolan and the team. I loved both recipes that were shared with us and her enthusiasm to show us how we can elevate the tinned fish beyond the can. We mingled. We made friends. I spent a pretty penny on several of the delicious items that I was introduced to. I look forward to attending more events here in the future.

I'm a big food hall fan and this one does not disappoint! It's newish and still looks pristine…read more There's a ton of awesome vendors, even beyond just food options, which is cool to see. There's a lot of seating scattered through, including outside, which can sometimes get tight in food halls, so I love to see that, too. A few more highlights for me... + Twenty Two the juice spot has been fabulous both times I've had the pleasure of trying them. + Pumpkinfish is a retail gift shop that has so many cool things! They do a great job at curating the items, everything ranging from Indy themed knick knacks to locally made art and jewelry, all quirky and unique. + The variety of food they have is amazing. Everything from Greek, Asian-fusion, Mexican, and ice cream to a bakery, poke, pizza, burgers, and more. There's something for everyone. Overall, Indy is lucky to have a place like this. If I lived nearby, I would be here all the time!

Wow! What a pleasant surprise to find and visit this location…read more If you love exploring multiple food and drink cuisines under one roof, you are in luck! There are several fantastic food halls and multi-concept venues to match your vibe. Great way to reinvent/repurpose an old building. There are way too many venues to mention; so there is chicken, Greek, pizza, Asian, seafood, bbq, beer, liquors, sodas, burgers, bakery, ice creams, Brazilian, Venezuelan, Mexican, noodle bar and more. I had a fishsimmwich. Drink, fish sandwich and chips $12. Tasty sandwich, potato chips mixture of plain and cheese, plain were good, not a cheesy chip fan, but sandwich was good. Definitely a great place to visit! Lots of seating area. I really like the concept! I believe it was an old Coca Cola production building back in the day. J's Lobster and Fish Market! The biggest dilemma is which one to chose. Can't wait to comeback some time to try something else; unfortunately it a tad big commute but one day " I'll be back! "

A must go, for a solid German lunch and bakery trip!…read more Everything was perfect from the charming shop to the amazing service and ohhh the German chocolate cake.

A Quirky Little German Gem with a Side of Nostalgia!…read more What a fun and quirky little place! Heidelberg Haus is packed with more knickknacks than you can imagine, giving it so much character and charm. It's definitely not your typical restaurant, and that's part of what makes it so special! The restaurant itself is small, with just four tables and a rail, and every seat was full during our visit. Service was a little slow, but we understood that everyone had sat down around the same time, so we were happy to be patient. One thing we really appreciated was the reasonable pricing. It's becoming harder to find places where you can enjoy a genuinely good meal without spending a fortune, and Heidelberg Haus is a refreshing reminder that they still exist! I was torn between several menu items, so I was thrilled to discover a combo option. The pork chop and sausage were fantastic, but the real star of the show was the potato salad! Seriously, I could have eaten a second serving and already know that's a must on our next visit. But perhaps the most special part of the experience was something completely unexpected: the plates! They were just like the ones my grandparents had, and since they've both passed away, seeing them brought back such wonderful memories. It was one of those little moments that makes a meal about so much more than just the food.

I'd long been curious about Penzey's Spices, a national chain with one Indiana location that…read morehappens to be in the Castleton area. Tonight, I had a little time before a nearby film screening and decided I would finally drop in. First off, I instantly loved the vibe of this strip center location that's not too far down from Trader Joe's. This location is pretty solidly accessible with nearby accessible parking, appropriate curb-cuts, and a layout that I had almost no difficulty maneuvering. In case it's not obvious, Penzey's Spices specializes in spices. They also offer online ordering (free shipping with $49+). I have to admit I'm no expert when it comes to spices. I'm also not the most adventurous eater due to a fragile system. However, I've been venturing out of my comfort zone lately and I got lots of ideas from my visit to Penzey's. I have no idea how many spices they carry. It's a lot. I found the prices quite reasonable. I found items that I thought "I want to try that" and I mostly found the prices at such a good point that I would be willing to give it a try. Of course, some are more than others. That's life. Employees were friendly. The overall energy of the place was light and hopeful. They also offer gift boxes, trial bags, and accessories. However, when it comes down to it this is really a spice store and boy do they have amazing options. I believe in terms of corporate that Penzey's is based in Wisconsin. I'm just grateful they're here. They add such a spark to the Castleton area, and they seem perfect as a companion to the nearby Trader Joe's. It took me way too long to get here. It won't take me that long to get back.

Just pepper alone they probably have a dozen different flavor variations. We have over 80 spices in our pantry. Some of our go to are Frozen Pizza, it takes a Jack's frozen pizza to the next level. Others are Sandwich Sprinkle, Tuscan Sunset, Mural of Flavor and California Seasoned Pepper to name a few. If there isn't a location in your town you can always mail order from their website.
