    Limited edition!!

Our 1st time visiting the smokehouse was on a Saturday for a YELP event! What a fantastic place! The ladies working were very sweet, helpful, and very accommodating. They were offering FREE sample of Tasso, a limited edition flat iron steak only available once a year. It was soooo tender and delicious we just had to take some home! The place was very clean and well organized . We got several other meats to take home and try. We will definitely be returning!

I was here for a Yelp event a couple of weeks ago and picked up some of the plain hot smoked salmon while I was there and oh wow, this was the best I've had since a trip to Seattle. It was so flavorful and truly had a smoked flavor with char marks on the skin; I.knew I needed more. They were out of the plain kind when I stopped by today, so I bought a cajun spice kind and cherry butter variety. They have cold smoked and cured varieties as well, but at the moment I seem hooked on their hot smoked salmon. I also bought some of the "kitchen sink" sausages on my last trip and they were delicious on the grill. I picked up some charcuterie on this trip along with some treats for a gift basket I'm putting together; they have Frittle, local jams and their own flavor mix of popcorn. I love that they have parking next to the shop; parking lots get bonus points in my book! They also have a rewards program; once you earn 500 points you get a $25 gift card. I need to come back to stock up on freezer items too once I clear out some real estate in my freezer. Staff are friendly and helpful. And....just have to mention...first review was by Ken N. and looks like he came the first day they opened and loved it. All of us Indy Yelpers who have been around a bit definitely remember Ken N and it's always nice to still see his reviews helping point out great local businesses.

I've been a fan of Smoking Goose since I moved to Indy a few years ago. I used to check out their warehouse sales, then they made the meatery but I didn't get to check it out cause of covid. Finally got to go. It's a small store but it's packed with goodies. The standout feature is the fill a box freezer sale. You literally fill a small or large box with as much stuff from the freezer for a set price (small $50, large $85). What an awesome deal! If you pack your box well you easily get well over the box price. I got to try several different things for much cheaper than usual. Wish they'd have such a deal for items in the rest if the store.

Love the local selection and quality of what they offered. The staff was very helpful as the selection could be overwhelming and different from normal. Their recommendations was definitely what helped when selecting from the freezer sale. I also liked the little "nook" of merchandise! I've seen smoking goose in many amazing restaurants and was glade to visit and get items from their store front.

Build your own charcuterie for 2 ($15)- super generous

The Smoking Goose offers on-site charcuterie and small plates at its Public Smokehouse concept.  When you enter Smoking Goose, you can select from a "build your own" charcuterie option board, with the smallest portion serving 1-2 for $15. The two (2) of us chose the smallest $15 option, where you mix n' match whatever three (3) items you prefer under the cheese, meat, or seafood categories.  We chose a delicious Kenny's Farmhouse gouda, smoked trout, and lomo (cured pork loin).  The charcuterie plate also came with a spicy mango chutney jam, an assortment of pickled veggies (such as delicious curry-pickled cauliflower), and crunchy olive-oil toasted bread points. There were a bunch of interesting small plates to choose from, such as gin-soaked olives with blue cheese and octopus with chorizo, but we decided upon the creamy smoked seafood dip with capers and pickled onions.  The dip was very rich, but lemon zest was thoughtfully micro-planed on top it; the brightly flavored zest, capers, and pickled onions helped to cut through the smoke and creaminess. The Smoking Goose staff were very friendly and descriptive in their answers, when we had questions about particular options or flavor profiles.  They checked in on us without being too obtrusive and obviously put a lot of care/attention into our plates. We thought the plating was beautiful and the portion size was generous for the price, especially when considering the flavor "bombs" that accompanied it.  Other local places charge similar (or more) for very sad-looking, poorer quality charcuterie with just a few slices of meat/cheese and no accompaniments. You can also add other Smoking Goose grocery items to your Public Smokehouse meal, such as quality tinned fish, jerkys, jams, or unique sodas/seltzers.   For seating options, there is a large wooden table that seats about eight (8) people inside or picnic tables outside;  not a lot of inside seating, but perhaps you'll meet a fellow charcuterie lover by sharing the table and bonding over cured meats and stinky cheese? Our only recommendation is that it'd be fantastic if raw oysters were also an option, like at the Goose the Market location off of Delaware...but that's only a minor quibble.  I'd highly recommend checking out Public Smokehouse if you'd like a different lunch time or afternoon snack option and want to try out new flavors (especially more of Smoking Goose's offerings).  We want to go back for octopus, smoked oysters, and more unique pickles. Afterwards, you can continue your regular Smoking Goose shopping; don't forget to check if a freezer sale is going on!

I've struggled with how to rate and review Goose the Market for a long time…read more I've struggled mightily. It's an Indianapolis icon in many ways. It's beloved. And listen, it's not the most wheelchair friendly place in the world. If you're a wheelchair user, you're in all likelihood not going to the cellar unless you're extraordinary with you're chair or you crawl. I remember attending a Yelp event here, and I just wrestled with these issues so much. It's not inaccessible - you can get in the door, though even the parking is a bit wonky and the curb-cuts a bit worn. This is an older building in an older neighborhood. So yeah, if you're a wheelchair user plan ahead. I am a wheelchair user. And I suppose I should knock off my usual 1-star for accessibility issues. But, I just can't do it. I, instead, choose to go 5-stars with my narrative disclaimer that there are accessibility issues here. But, my word. This is a great place and every single experience I've had with Goose the Market, including last night's Italian Film Festival, has been stellar whether I'm in their location or at an event they are catering. What is Goose the Market? First off, nearly everyone considers it one of the best - Indianapolis Monthly, Eater, Yelp, etc. Goose the Market offers a daily menu of sandwiches, soups, gelato, and small plates. It offers raw beef, pork, poultry, game, seafood, in-house made sausage/smoked meats, and more. It offers charcuterie - both in-house and from other producers. It offers farmstead cheeses, fresh produce, artisan breads, preserves, sauces, pickles, pasta, crackers, flours/grains, and a lot more. There's the cellar - Enoteca bar with Italian style wine by the glass and small plates (and it has all-ages seating). Goose the Market offers a wine of the month club, gift cards, catering, classes, daily specials, and more. What can I say? There are those places that are worth the effort. As a lifelong person with a disability, I long ago realized the world would never be perfectly accessible. It's never going to happen. I'll continue to work toward a more accessible world, though I'll also honor that there are those places where I feel welcome anyway. I feel welcome at Goose the Market, though I can't quite get the full experience. The service is exceptional, the products quite awesome, the environment warm and friendly, and there's simply no doubt it's one of Indy's treasures. So yeah, five stars. With a disclaimer that those with mobility impairments may need to plan ahead or have a companion along. Who wants to be my companion?

What a fun spot for a sandwich or cheese or sundry items!…read more It is on the corner of two busy streets but does have two spots in front for parking. You can also park in the gravel lot across the road. It was raining pretty heavily so we got wet but wasn't a far dash. The counter is like any deli with the items displayed in the cold case. You can browse the various freezers or shelves for items like picked veggies, canned fish or spreads. It was fun to see that you could buy everything needed for a picnic or impromptu lunch! We got sandwiches to go as well as locally baked cookies. I tried the recommendation for a vegetarian sandwich. It was nice and crusty and had some good flavor. I might create my own next time, but theirs was good and had lots of flavor! My friend was new to Indianapolis and really liked the options. She said she would be back and so will we. They also do tasting events and other things so we might check out one of their offerings. A fun local spot!

There's a lot of seating scattered through, including outside, which can sometimes get tight in food halls, so I love to see that, too. There's food stalls for just about all the cuisines you can think of, as well as a gift shop, barber shop, and a clothing store. There's also a lot of other businesses nearby for your entertainment! Every food stall operates about the same way, where you order at their counter and you get a buzzer for when your food is done, so you can still sit down with your crew while you wait. This space also does host events sometimes, with a game night social every Tuesday 6-9 PM, with board games galore that you can take around with you. They have also had March Madness watch parties there in the past. Take care of when these events occur, because it can get super crowded in there. The Garage still maintains some of the Bottleworks charm by having some of the old machinery on display. One thing that I wish was improved about The Garage is that there should be more trash cans and tray collections around. These can be hard to find with all the commotion of The Garage.

I've driven by the Bakery, so many times and wanted to stop, but I was always in a hurry. We just took our time and looked around and laughed at so many signs and odd little things that were placed over the years. On the way to the ladies room, you will find out that the gentleman that started the restaurant fought in one of the world wars, and you will see his worn out shoes, his uniforms, his letters of accommodation and Learn his story. Now let's get to the desserts. We shared some type of a wonderful lemon pastry and a black forest cake. Best black forest cake I've ever had. Savored every bite. We were able to buy the last of the springle's that they had made from Christmas. FYI, if you don't like black licorice don't buy Springerle's but you can only get them at Christmas because it's a German tradition and they won't work in the summertime because of the humidity. Things that I learned that day. We saw that they had a dinner menu with a huge variety of different bratwurst and assorted sausages that we would like to try sometime. Tonight, I had a little time before a nearby film screening and decided I would finally drop in. First off, I instantly loved the vibe of this strip center location that's not too far down from Trader Joe's. This location is pretty solidly accessible with nearby accessible parking, appropriate curb-cuts, and a layout that I had almost no difficulty maneuvering. In case it's not obvious, Penzey's Spices specializes in spices. They also offer online ordering (free shipping with $49+). I have to admit I'm no expert when it comes to spices. I'm also not the most adventurous eater due to a fragile system. However, I've been venturing out of my comfort zone lately and I got lots of ideas from my visit to Penzey's. I have no idea how many spices they carry. It's a lot. I found the prices quite reasonable. I found items that I thought "I want to try that" and I mostly found the prices at such a good point that I would be willing to give it a try. Of course, some are more than others. That's life. Employees were friendly. The overall energy of the place was light and hopeful. They also offer gift boxes, trial bags, and accessories. However, when it comes down to it this is really a spice store and boy do they have amazing options. I believe in terms of corporate that Penzey's is based in Wisconsin. I'm just grateful they're here. They add such a spark to the Castleton area, and they seem perfect as a companion to the nearby Trader Joe's. It took me way too long to get here.
