Prior to dinner, we walked around Fountain Square and explored the Cincinnati Moon Festival…read more(sampled some hot teas and mooncakes), and got cocktails at The Davidson and Via Vite (we saw Chef Cristian!)
We went on a Friday nite, a 7 pm reservation for two. The scotch egg app and one of the rotating cottage pies (?one w/ lamb?) were already sold out. It was busy, with most tables occupied. Lots of 'dates', it looked like.
Marigold is in downtown / the Fountain District and walking distance to Via Vite and The Davidson.
At Marigold, we tried the mango lasso (reserve) cocktail ($22) and honey blossom (shaken) ($15) cocktail.
Great cocktails, but $$$.
We shared the following:
Cottage pot pie w/ ground beef
Pachadi salad $16.95
Mushroom samosa, came with two, $16.95
Oysters Rockefeller, came with six, $23.95
Bone in short rib, came with two, $54.95
We loved the
* pachadi salad - punchy, fresh flavors,
* mushroom samosas - came with 2, outside pastry crust was light
*Bone in short ribs - came with 2, meat was fall off the bone tender and flavored well w/ the vindaloo juice; a lot of fat, but its a short rib not a filet mignon; the dish came with a few potatoes (dont wast the last few millimeters of space in your tummy on the taters).
* Cottage pie - it was good, but nothing special (I did learn cottage pie = ground beef, vs shepherd's pie = ground lamb)
* Oysters Rockefeller, came with 6 - these were good, but nothing special.
The restaurant is loud. We had a hard time conversing, sitting across from each other.
"English-style public house serving British and Indian dishes"
A pricey meal, but worth a wknd dinner splurge with my college bestie.
All the dishes came out fresh and HOT.
