I visited this location to try the limited edition Sticky Bun Donut before the season ended. This collab with Knauss Berry Farm is really good! Definitely worth trying if you haven't already. I also tried a gluten-free blueberry donut, which was really yummy although not what I expected as the texture was more like that of a slice of cake than that of a traditional yeast donut or traditional cake donut. We walked past this place a few times and decided to try it before going back to our hotel. We ordered Chai latte, one hot, one cold. We weren't told that they didn't have regular chairs and the guy rung us up for the brown sugar chain without informing us. I recognized the difference in price so I questioned it. I did order oatmilk and understood the additional fee, but I was confused on the $6.25 charge when the chai was $5. We were then told that they didn't have regular chairs and that he just rung up what they had. The proper thing was to inform the customer of any difference in the menu and charges. The other guy tried to help by compensating us with a donut, but the other guy wasn't satisfied with the choice. He even tried to argue his case. He said all the right things but he did the wrong thing. The lattes were delicious, I can't argue that and my husband enjoyed his donut. I have to be honest, I haven't tried mine yet. Always a crowd pleaser always a delicious snack. Salty donut rarely ever misses. My only regret is never coming early enough to try the Everything Bagel & Cream Cheese Fluff. What they do have is always spot on. This time I tried the Strawberry Tres Leches. Concerned that the strawberry might make the donut too sweet but it was really a perfect balance. Ok, so I'm normally a fan of salty donut. I think they have some of the fluffiest, tastiest, freshest donuts in Miami. I also think the price of each donut is fair for how big they are. With that all being said, I was extremely disappointed with the donuts I purchased this past weekend. I ordered a box of 5 in the Coconut Grove location. They had their valentines glazed hearts, the cookies and cream filled hearts, and I got a strawberry tres leches. I'm normally a huge fan of their traditional glazed donut. But the heart shaped one was so large, that it was so dry inside. It should have been filled because honestly felt like I was eating a plain, no flavor donut. There was not enough glazing on the top. The cookies and cream filled one had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. My husband even mentioned how there was no taste of cookies and cream or chocolate in the filling despite it being filled. I was so confused. The tastiest one was the Strawberry tres leches. This one had some flavor to it, but I didn't get much strawberry coming through. I'm not sure if it was the location or what happened here. But these donuts are too expensive to lack so much. I'm currently coming off the See Donut diet and into a sugar high. I went to the grand opening in Coconut Grove! I have to admit, I'm not a big donut person, but my purchases today made me feel good about life, and maybe a nap. The donuts start at $4.50, and for their grand opening, they are debuting a Fireman Derek's Pie Stuffed Donut, a LoKal Frita Kolache with Kush, and two ice cream sandwiches with Salt and Straw ice cream, on consecutive days. I rolled myself out of bed and made it after 7am (they're open 7am-10pm!) to be treated to samples of their Maple & Brown Sugar Cold Brew and Cinnamon Crunch Cookie. It was a lovely way to jumpstart the weekend! The cold brew was maple sweetened just enough to be a treat on an early Saturday morning by itself, not with donuts. The Cinnamon Crunch Cookie was chewy and had the dense texture and cinnamon flavor that I could eat multiples of. The inside is bright, easy to look around and has about 4 tables for people to sit, drink their coffee and eat. You pretty much automatically get a box for your donuts but there were people just getting wax paper sleeves instead for dine in. I had the Fireman Derek's Pie Stuffed donut with their salted caramel pie inside The Salty's 24 hour brioche. The salted caramel pie's gooey, oat like texture was the perfect filling for the glazed brioche on the outside. My only issue was that it was so small, I wolfed it down in 4 bites! Then I was sad it was gone. The Strawberry Shortcake donut is genius. The fluffy brioche with all whipped fillings and toppings made everything come together in my mouth as a shortcake. The whipped strawberry filling was probably my favorite part of it. How do these people not dip a spoon into it every time they're filling these donuts? The Blueberry Crumb Cake donut (gluten free) is obviously textured different because of the use of---I want to say almond flour, to make it gluten free. But the blueberry jam filling, the blueberry glaze, and the dense cake had a lovely homemade feel to it that was so comforting, I'm taking my chances and putting most of it in the fridge to have later. I can tell the brioche donuts will not keep well and need to be eaten immediately, but the cake donuts may hold for a bit. Hot tip: the entrance is on McFarlane Road even though their address is on Grand Avenue. I walked up and down Grand Avenue so you don't have to.
