As a long-time resident of South Florida who grew up on the Keys, I ordered a key lime pie from "Fireman Derek's." It was recommended by my local bakery "Cindy Lou's Cookies,"* as a second choice as they weren't making key lime pies over two weeks in August. I paid $50.00 for a tiny 8-inch pie. I don't care how "authentic" this pie is, it is way overpriced. When cut into slivers of 8 slices, just imagine the size of the servings. Passed by to order a couple things for me and the family to try today. I got the chocolate cake which was pretty dang good. Super moist, rich, and hit the craving that was itching me. Staff was incredibly friendly and were more than happy to assist and offer recommendations. However... there's one sole reason that this isn't a 5. The price man... as good as the product can be, there's a point where you stop to ask is this really worth ___? To me, not really, it's great but for the price you pay you can get a whole grocery store cake. I'll definitely be back to try more but, I want to be honest with my review and make sure people know what they're getting into. read more

It's tough to stick to a diet when you see the display of delicious looking desserts here! There are pies, cakes, cookies, bars, ice cream, and other goodies. And it smells so good on top of it all! We did an online order and picked it up. It was ready on time. We didn't have to wait at all. The employee was nice and had our order ready. We ordered a Chocolate Chip cookie, a Magic Bar, a Red Velvet Cake slice, a Cookie Monster pie slice, and a Guava White Chocolate Chip cookie. This will be split with my daughter and slowly eaten over 3 days during Mother's Day weekend. They all look delicious! We lucked out and got a parking spot across the street and walked over. First time coming here. The chocolate chip cookie was so good. Extra chocolate chips. We also had their 3s leche cake and that was also good, except it had a bit too much cinnamon for my liking. Not lots of places to sit here but it seems like a place to go and get your dessert and eat elsewhere. The staff were extremely nice and patient. Decorated with Christmas stuff it was great. We ordered a carrot cake and it did not disappoint! So rich in flavor and filled with add ins and the richest cream cheese icing! Definitely worth the price and great service all around. Would definitely stop by to check out more of the sweets if we lived here. Man, for me to not like a dessert joint is saying slot. I live in the grove, I've come time and time again back to Fireman Derek's and I've left disappointed every single time. The staff is nice enough, and inside is always clean and tidy, that's never the problem. The peaches and cream cake cup was completely inedible; the peaches were rotten, and it was pure sugar. I hope these high reviews are old because i just had the carrot cake, cream pie, chocolate chip cookie, and im sorry by they all sucked. As in i couldnt eat it. Not the same as when they started in north miami 8 years ago. Twice the price, smaller portions and not good, what a disappointment. One star for a terrible experience here. We had a guava pie slice delivered, and it arrived looking like it had been mashed up into a jam. It was completely runny with half the filling missing and no crumb top. Awful. I've posted a picture of what it looked like upon arrival. I called to ask about it, and the airheaded shift manager told me the batch had come out bad. When I asked why on earth they would send a slice of pie from a bad batch, he just said the quality of the pie wasn't their responsibility. Wild response. If you know something is defective, you don't send it out to paying customers. We're done with this place. Do yourself a favor, and find a better place to get dessert. read more

It had so many Oreo cookies and it was layered with a soft chocolate. So melt and your mouth and so good! My sister had the Cookie Monster that had crushed chocolate chip cookies and crushed Oreos. I devoured it - a little each night for dessert until all of it was gone from my fridge. The key lime pie I didn't like - good try, but if you've had Kermit's key lime pie in Key West you would know why I didn't like this one. Stopped in after having dinner nearby. I've had this place on my list for a while now, and was excited to finally give it a try. Everything looked delicious and the store had a cute decor and fun energy. The employees were really nice, friendly, and engaged, which really made the place shine! Great staff! I decided to try the Oreo cookie cheesecake. I would have loved to try EVERYTHING, but prices are on the steep side, so I had to keep it limited. Prices are not listed anywhere which is kinda annoying, so in case you were wondering the brownies are around $8 each, and the Oreo cheesecake slice was $10. The cheesecake was very good, but the slice was small- especially considering it was a whopping $10. I think $7 or $8 is a more fair price for such a small slice. Just my opinion. The brownies were huge so $8 might be fair for that item. The cookies were also huge and I'm curious how much those run. Overall, there was a delicious looking variety of baked treats to suit any tastes, so if you don't mind spending $8-$10 per treat you should stop in to Fireman Derek's. As for myself, the prices were too high and portion size of the cheesecake too small, so I would not return. read more

Stopped by last night to satisfy a sweet tooth craving and get a slice of chocolate cake. Upon entering I wasn't greeted and the girl at the counter treated me as if I was a nuisance. I tried to be as quick as I could to not bother them as I understood it was getting late and I felt a bit unwelcome. I ended up getting a slice of their chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. It kinda sucks they aren't freshly cut from the cake and come pre-packaged from the fridge as I think slicing it would lead to a fresher product. The cake was cold and a bit hard to bite into but got a bit better as it thawed out. As a baker, the cake was alright, it was just for a quick fix. I don't think it was worth the almost $13 I paid for as you can make a whole cake for $13 (after ingredient breakdown). Fireman Derek's is by no means terrible but it's just meh and overly priced in my opinion especially considering the service that you receive. It's a cute little shop but hopefully they could get some better staff that are happy to help. read more

So glad the opened a fireman Derek's in the groove! If you're looking for delicious and unique pies look no further. They give you such good portions and you can even buy the whole pie so it's perfect to bring to any event. The banana pie has to be one of my favorites, but I've also never had a bad option here. Location wise, the coconut groove location is a good size and well air conditioned! Inside and outside tables available and street parking all around. They even have find wall art so a pie selfie is a must. Service wise, the staff is friendly and attentive! Parking can be trough since the groove is usually always busy, but still so happy to have this location and you can find both street and garage parking if you look! read more

I definitely recommend getting a slice of one of their pies since thats truly what they're known for. The pies are made fresh daily and are delicious. I had the Cookie Monster pie, which was essentially a cheese cake made in a cookie crust topped with whipped cream and cookie crumbles/cookie dough. This was not my first choice of pie but tasty nonetheless. I did feel like it could have used a little bit more cheesecake filling (for a creamier experience), a softer crust (To make it easier to eat) and smaller pieces of cookie crumble. I used to come in here constantly/ loved the cookies etc. but it is NOT THE SAME, When I walked in recently I asked to use the restroom and the presumptuous staff said bathroom is for customers only, When I shop here I use the restroom and then I buy something. Go somewhere where the staff treats you kindly, Fuzzbees has cheaper cookies across the street and they are much healthier.
