I was initially so happy to find this place. This is the second time we've ordered from Salty Chefs. The first time was amazing...I ordered the BLT and Matt got the breakfast burrito. We were both super happy with our selections and were eager to have the opportunity to try more. They seem to be known for scratch cooking and locally sourced produce...so, I was pretty disappointed this time when I ordered a side of turkey sausage with my pancakes. It's very obviously a mass produced frozen product. It's exactly like Banquet or Hormel brown n' serve frozen turkey sausage links that you can get from Walmart. It was super spongy inside and the outside was browned but wrinkly and soggy. The taste wasn't awful or anything...I just expected much better. Another recent reviewer mentioned that their chicken cutlet was a strange texture and, by the waiter's admission, the restaurant orders it precooked. This doesn't seem to align with their philosophy of scratch made and local. The pancakes were ok. The flavor was nice but they were pretty dense. I wouldn't order them or the turkey sausage again. I'm not giving up on Salty Chefs yet though!! I know they have some great food, I'll just try different items on the menu to find it...but I'm not super patient when it comes to spending our hard earned money. I still recommend you give them a try! BLT and breakfast burritos are top notch!

We stopped by for lunch while we were waiting for passports. It was a good decision. We had eggs and bacon, grilled cheese with a salad, and a cheeseburger with fries. The food in general deserves pretty good grades, with the burger and salad on top and the eggs bringing up the rear. The counter service was very helpful and tolerant of our ignorance. Prices were a little high, but the portions were quite large. We'll return in 10 years when the passport expires.

Wow this was an absolutely incredible find in the heart of the city. The reality is a lot of other people had already found it because from the time we walked in around 1:30 until we left they were really busy ... for a good reason! Great food ... superb atmosphere including the view and top notch service, not sure where that salty chef was. The grilled cheese was one of the most amazing sandwiches you will ever see much less enjoy!! Their burger yummm and the soups oh so good!! There are challenges with the parking system out front so bring quarters!! I even got the secret code to the rest room!! Oh, and the prices are less than those chain "fast food places" and for a better price you get great homemade food at a great price with superb service with a great view and atmosphere all in downtown Buffalo but I think I said that already!!

If you're looking for a place downtown for breakfast or lunch, definitely stop by. We visited after a medical appointment. So impressed with the level of comfort from the scratch-cooked meals. The Salty Chefs themselves were so welcoming, it felt like being at Mom & Dad's or going to Gramma's for a home-cooked meal. The family that owns & operates it was so friendly...Dad took our order, gave a little sample of the delish soup before we ordered it. We met the "Mom Chef" when she visited us table side to see how things were...when I joked I wanted the recipe for her dessert, she kindly explained how she made it! We admired her t-shirt & a few minutes later her son visited our table to let us know where he purchased it for her. The soup was spectacular, our special sandwich was chock full of delicious smoky meat, the salad was fresh & filling, a generous portion with a hombaked roll & a side of white balsamic vinaigrette I wish I could buy a bottle of. The leftovers (aplenty, due to such nice serving sizes) were carefully packaged for us in sustainable paper packaging & no fuss foil. So glad we finally tried this little cafe & hope to return soon Hint-restrooms are for customers only & are down a hallway, requiring a code you can obtain from the cashier

If you're craving some food matzo ball soup-this is the place for you. I got a bowl of this soup which came with really good bread and butter. Everything tasted high quality and fresh ingredients were used. I also got a side of fries which you could tell were also freshly made, very good. My friend got one of the burgers and said it was the juiciest burger he's had. Very casual vibes. The food came out pretty quickly. Will definitely come back here to try breakfast.

I had a very special lunch at Salty Chefs recently. It is beyond my budget for a workday lunch, but it was a holiday week so I felt like splurging. And what a splurge! The food is prepared carefully, this is not fast food - you can taste the love! Even though the preparation takes some time I was able to have lunch within my lunch hour. The service is good, order at the counter and they bring your order to your table. While you wait for the deliciousness to be delivered you can peruse the eclectic wallpaper and choose a recipe that you just may be inspired to cook for your next meal. Or just enjoy the cafe atmosphere. If you're feeling peckish, make your way to Salty Chefs, you'll be glad you did.

My coworker found this place and just amazing! When I entered I appreciatedthe cozy yet rustic appearance. I wasn't too thrilled with the menu, but I was wrong. Everything I ordered was amazing. The flavor was out of this world. The man who took my order offered for me to try the soup before purchasing. I recommend this restaurant .

Welcoming and knowledgeable staff, super cool interior with international postcards, and the breakfast sandwich is TOP TIER on an absolutely delicious house made roll. The roll was so good I got another one to go. Will definitely be back! Many times!

Very cute cafe style restaurant. Friendly staff. Good was very good. We got the taco salad, great portion for the price! The chipotle mayo is spicy for my scared heat people BUT it was so good. The sauteed salmon wrap was excellent. Little tip, if ordering to go get the salsa on the side as to keep the wrap from getting soggy. The ghost pepper chili was very hearty and not too spicy. Maple mustard chicken salad, it was dressed perfectly, didn't even need the dressing provided on the side. Definitely will be back

Nothing salty about chefvowners Dave and Donna! Super friendly to us visiting from Ca.! Great vibe of authenticity and classic spot in the making! Pancakes drew us here and did not disappoint! Also biscuits and gravy were so hearty! Big thanks for the conversation too! TIL next time!

I placed an online order and it was ready by the time I got there. I didn't dine in but there were several people doing so during the lunch hour. I ordered the House Made Vegan Sweet Potato ShroomBurger with balsamic vinaigrette mixed greens. My first impression was positive as I opened the box and saw so many colors! The burger itself tasted good but was too soft. So soft that most of it slid right off the bun as soon as I picked it up, as a smooth paste consistency. I didn't notice a sauce on the burger but it was topped with a piece of lettuce, shredded carrots, strawberries, blueberries, and walnuts. The combination of ingredients was good though. I really enjoyed the salad and the dressing, but was disappointed when I found a moldy tomato in the salad. Overall I'd be willing to come back but wouldn't get this burger again.

This place hit the spot after an early morning flight in from Florida! Breakfast served all day is our kind of place! The food was great and the service awesome! Join the clean plate club for an after meal treat!

Tried out this Downtown lunch establishment this past Friday . It was my coworkers birthday and 6 of us went out for lunch, as I heard they had a pretty extensive lunch menu . Overall , I enjoyed my meal but beware - for a burger with fries , a bottle of water and tax/gratuity , it was a $25 lunch . Ouch ! Not a cheap lunch . The Buffalo Morning burger was tasty - lots of flavor with the mushrooms , egg , cheese . My fries were thin -which is how I prefer them - but definitely over cooked . Also , 4 of us were served their food right away . Another colleague and I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for our food - our coworkers were wrapping up with their meal by that time . They were all burger orders besides 1 chicken sandwich - so I am a bit baffled as to why the food wasn't timed out to be completed all at once . I would come back for maybe a soup or breakfast . I would avoid the burgers if you are in the mood for a cheaper and quick meal during your lunch hour .

Brownie with ice cream. Couldn't wait to dig before taking a picture lol.

I ordered the smash burger, my husband ordered the turkey sandwich. After we were waiting for our food for over 25 minutes, the server came over and said that he was just informed they don't have the turkey because they had an issue with that freezer. Ok, so my husband ordered the cheese steak because he was super excited for the bahn mi roll. My smash burger was alright, but the bread they use for their burgers remind me of those cheap buns you get from TOPS that just fall apart. The worst part was that they forgot the dog sauce on my burger, so I asked for the sauce, and THEY CHARGED ME FOR ASKING FOR SAUCE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ALREADY BE ON THE BURGER I ORDERED. My husband made sure to tell me after we already left because he knew I would have fought it and our already 1.5 hour long lunch date would have been longer waiting for the refund... He ordered the cheesesteak and the sandwich was so small, and the "bahn mi bun" wasn't even toasted which is a signature for bahn mi bread. He said the flavor was fine but nothing to rave about. The worst part, for me, were the French fries that came with both of our meals. They were soooo heavily peppered that they were inedible. We asked for ketchup to try to make them tolerable, and they gave us a pre-portioned small cup of ketchup... You serve french fries with most of your menu, why isn't there ketchup on the table?!? Overall, It was a nice place to have on senrca street which used to only have the blackthorn and franchescas, but I would not eat here again.

The service was very good and it's a cute spot that I'd be willing to come back to. The best thing we had BY FAR were the beef croquettes. These were perfect, and I could have made a meal out of them. They had a tender birria like shredded meat inside with some cheese and probably some potato, I can't even remember but I do remember that everyone loved these. We also ordered asparagus, the Korean Fried Chicken, the shrimp with potatoes (all small plates) and one of my friends ordered the duck entree. My husband and friends had cocktails and mocktails; I didn't order one because they said they had nothing that was sweet. Incidental pet peeve: Saying "all our cocktails are balanced". I get it, you want to brag. But, some of us like things that are sweet, or as in the case of one of my friends, decidedly NOT sweet. If all of your cocktails are balanced the same way, it gives little useful info on what to order. I will respond to this by NOT ordering and sticking to tap water. I'd prefer it if you have a little something sweet and a little something not-sweet on the menu for those of us who don't actually want "perfectly balanced". That said, I did have a sip of the cocktails the others ordered. To my surprise, I liked the Broken Garden Tools. Though it wasn't particularly sweet it was also not super sour/tart and it was refreshing. I *could* have ordered that one, but I never would have known it from the description. I didn't like any of the others I tasted, but I can't remember what those were. Since I don't like whisky and I prefer sweet drinks, don't take this to mean that they don't have good drinks - the others enjoyed theirs, they just weren't to MY taste. Of the other dishes, I liked the cabbage that was on my friend's duck plate (I didn't try the duck). The asparagus was fine. The shrimp and potatoes was ok but not as good as I'd hoped for. And honestly, I didn't love the KFC. It didn't seem to be twice-fried and super crispy like KFC should be, and the sauce to me wasn't balanced between the sweet and spicy flavors I prefer. However, my husband liked it very well. The only other thing I'd caution is to double check ingredients. There was a dish ordered (I can't remember which now, some kind of bread maybe, but not listed as a bruschetta) that said it contained rosemary among other things but did not list basil. We saw no rosemary at all, but a lot of basil, which I can't eat. So I didn't have any. The others shared it. I would have been more disappointed had it been my selection. My friend noted that the server did not ask us about any food allergies, which, if your menu doesn't accurately list its contents, is problematic. Fortunately I know what basil looks like so no harm done. All in all, I would return, get lots of croquettes, order a Broken Garden Tools, and maybe try some other things we didn't get to. But I'd double check all the ingredients.
