The ambiance is to die for! This restaurant is one of the prettiest I've seen in a while. I took my friends there for dinner last night and they did not disappoint. I forgot to get a picture of my main course which was Steak and Frites. We ordered the bbq ribs as an appetizer. One of my friends got the snapper entree and the other got the ribeye with mash potatoes and asparagus. I tried the blueberry jam martini and a mango martini. Everything was phenomenal including our service. They brought my friends as cake on the house because it was her birthday so that was so sweet of them. read more

First time trying this restaurant and it left a wonderful first impression! The food was really good. I definitely recommend the sweet and spicy bacon to start. I also try the French onion soup at any new restaurant I go to and Johnny D's French onion is easily top 5 I've ever had. We also got the grouper fish and chips and steak frites (recommend both). To end our meal we had a delicious chocolate cake and lemon blueberry cheesecake. Our server Dan was very nice and attentive. The ambiance was great as they had a piano player during dinner (they have live music on Fridays). The owner was also very attentive as he would come around and make sure we were enjoying our meal. I would highly recommended this restaurant anyone in or visiting Buffalo that is looking for a good night out. read more

Went on Valentine's Day and had an amazing experience! Tucked away in the Hyatt Regency, this upscale restaurant is a nice gem in downtown Buffalo. They have a pianist which adds serious ambiance points! The lighting was low and romantic too! The food was phenomenal, and worth the wait! I got the 8 Oz. filet with a red wine demi glace, served with mashed potatoes and broccolini, and it was heavenly! Our waitress was incredibly sweet, and very attentive. Johnny D's is well worth the visit.. The restaurant's decor is nice and elegant. There's a nice bar area you can dine at, or you can choose to dine in the larger dining area. Both areas you can hear, and enjoy the live musical entertainment. That maybe scheduled to play for the night. Towards the back of the restaurant, you see all the food being prepared in the open kitchen. Our server for the night was Daniel. He did such a great job on the food recommendations, as well as being attentive to our table needs. Faroe island salmon- Salmon was seasoned perfectly, with a crispy sear. This entree came on a bed of beans, and was a great compliment to the dish. Flatbread- (appetizer) Came out warm, and the bread was delicious. I would've like a little more, balsamic sauce drizzled over it though. Tempura shrimp- Freshly rolled sushi is always a good thing, and this was no different. WHAT. HAPPENED? I've been dreaming about coming back since March. The one positive is that the truffle/lime/boursin wings are outstanding! Huge wings, very tender with a really eclectic, umami taste. Took half an hour to get our drinks and place our order. There was about the same amount of staff and diners. They don't have broiled oysters anymore. Which baffles me as they have raw oysters. My lamb came out looking like Applebee's plated it. It was sliced in 4 pieces topped with a gelatinous Demi. Instead of the incredible Yukon gold potato's there were over cooked fingerlings. Instead of broccolini, there was some broccoli stir fry that looked like it came straight out of a freezer bag. Not much better either. What a massive disappointment. I'm still hungry. Oh. As soon as we arrived, Chris the owner greeted us at the desk and had a great positive attitude. Took us to our table and asked if we were local or not (which we are). Since this restaurant is connected to the Hyatt hotel, I assume majority of their patrons are out of towner's. The service was incredible, our waiter Trey also had a great positive attitude. The atmosphere was pretty quiet when we went, but we like an early dinner and people slowly trickled in. The food is so flavorful! The French onion soup had the perfect ratio of salty to sweet. I would prefer if the cheese wasn't burned, but it didn't ruin the taste. The pizza was also super tasty. My husband had the spicy seafood pasta and said it was definitely spicy, but not to the point where he couldn't enjoy it. He cleaned his plate! I also completely ate the Atlantic salmon with the dill flavoring. The rice also packed a lot of flavor seeming like it was cooked in a delicious broth! I think this place is a hidden gem. We decided to try Johnny D's on Thanksgiving with a prix fixe menu. We were a bit concerned because the reviews are all over the place. As for the ambiance the restaurant is dark and feels high end. As for the food and service, fortunately for us, Johnny D's had their A team on because it was great from the service, our server Morgan was attentive and apparently knew the diners cues. Plus, it felt like dining. We weren't rushed and it didn't take three hours where some of the higher end places seem to take. I chose the crab cakes for the appetizer. They were very good with only a small bit of bread crumbs which I appreciate. For my main dish, I chose crab stuffed salmon with sides of haricouvert and mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned perfectly. I decided to have pecan pie for dessert. The pie was very good but like every other pecan pie I've had. We're looking forward to going back for just a regular dinner. read more

I stopped at Johnny D's and got a take out. If I'm being honest, the house burger I got was nothing special. It was fine, but it wasn't unique or exceptional in its flavor or toppings or size... I ordered it medium and it was overcooked, too. But in all, it was fine for a cheeseburger. What was really nice about this place was the ambiance--a relaxed but elevated bar and restaurant with live piano. I wish I'd been able to stick around and enjoy the music for longer. Another standout in my experience was the service--friendly front of house staff who actually go the extra mile to help customers. I needed a little caffeine boost to help deal with a headache and asked if I could get a Coke to go. The waiter who took my order wasn't sure if they offered to-go beverages but made it happen. Stopped by for dinner during their opening weekend. The atmosphere was very chic. And they had a piano player which was a nice touch. Our server Vin was very attentive and accommodating. I ordered the Pepper Paloma for my drink which was great. We ordered the bread as a starter. And I ordered the shrimp and grits while my husband ordered the chicken fried steak. Presentation on both plates was beautiful. And the food was delicious. My only small complaint would be regarding the shrimp and grits. It is served with full prawns, and after getting out the meat, it left the equivalent of only 4 small shrimp in a giant bowl of grits. So the actual shrimp/grit ratio was very disappointing. While the presentation of the prawns looked nice, I think I would've preferred just whole shrimp if it meant they would serve more. Overall, We definitely will be back , it's the perfect spot for a nice date night or celebration! read more

Had an incredible dinner here!! The food and service were amazing! The "live piano" was actually kind of annoying it was an older man just basically talking and tapping keys. I know they also have another performer so maybe his nights are more entertaining.... That's the only negative thing I would have to say. You must try the corn dog Wellington! I ordered the fish and chips, and deviled eggs. I cut 1 piece of the fish off and the fried part came with it. The fish was so soggy and gross. The fries were hard and cold, and the deviled eggs had a funny taste to them. When I walked in to pick up the order, the lady that handed me the bag was rude and just dropped it on the table and then walked away. It was way too expensive for shit food. The food is excellent! We usually try different restaurants while traveling but after eating here the first night we ate here EVERY night of our stay. Many better choices in Buffalo for the money. Nice room and ambiance. Friendly staff. Food was good -not great. Service a bit slow. Some things that are pretty standard in Buffalo lacking. For example, simple plate of bread was an appetizer item at 7 dollars. Soda was a glass full of ice with no free refills. Three glasses of soda for two of us ran 22 bucks. Its not EB Greens. I wish them luck. I fear that with some strong competition downtown, they may end up relying on their hotel crowd which wont be a recipe for success. read more

I come to Buffalo almost every week for work so eat out often. This is the best meal I have had in Buffalo. Ordered the Faroe Island Salmon and Harvest Salad. Salmon was delicious, cooked perfectly and served with asparagus and a white bean mixture. The salad was the freshest possible with roasted carrots, pistachios, blue cheese and more. My wife and I ate here tonight before heading to Sheas. We got the N.Y. Strip and Chicken Piccata. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The chicken piccata had the perfect amount of lemon kick and the sauce was amazing with the noodles. We finished dinner with the brown desert and OMG it was absolutely delicious!! The interior is very modern which we also enjoyed! I can wait to go back and try the dry aged ribeye or NY strip. We will definitely visit again! read more

If I could give negative reviews I would!!!! This place absolutely ruined an important birthday gathering!!!! I came with 10 ladies 2 steals came Out wrong all bloody when the cook was medium well. Plates were sent back and then came out still bloody. Sides were unable to be eaten and the chicken dish was so pink and they threw it in the microwave to be heated!!!! The owner came out promising to make it right with a round of drinks and a round of desserts and to take the 3 meals off because they were not touched and were completely sent back to the kitchen. By the time the drinks were supposed to come with dessert the bar tender came to drop the check because the owner left. The bartender!!! My steak was taken off the check the other 2 meals were left on. We explained we were not paying for the uneaten food and we asked her to call the owner but she refused and said something about his wife which sounded personal because really you can't call!!! I'll leave that up to your imagination. I requested police be called to ensure the table wasn't doing wrong by not paying for the 2 uneaten meals but instead they called security. Security instructed us to pay the bill and not the tip that was written in with pen!!!!! We did as such we paid $575 with coin left over. The lady said we were stealing but I was unsure what we were stealing because they have the dishes that were taken back. We got up and everyone began to go separate ways as I had gotten valet and all the cooks came outside with the bartender yelling at me talking about they are my friends and that I was responsible for everyone. The ladies were very lovely but I only knew the birthday girl so they were wrong. They jumped in the back of my car taking my plate number and from the start of the negative experience to them coming outside I have on video as they said they were calling the police on me. I think the owner left because he didn't want to deal with the table and loose money, and the fact when I brought to his attention my steak came out several times not fixed that I didn't want it he implied I came out without money so I had to nip that in the bud. I am a business owner myself and would never ever conducted business this way. The whole experience was humiliating and I was harassed and tried to be made to be embarrassed. My lawyer will be called!!!! May I add the serve came back and asked me if anyone had a dog to feed that steak to a filet mignon!!!! read more

The place was really nice inside great ambiance. Would love to have had bread at the table but you had to pay 7 dollars for that as an appetizer. WHY??? The food was okay and not great. The shrimp and grits had a nice flavor but the grits was served in a bowl with a thin layer of grits and overcooked shrimp. My husband had the burger which I thought tasted good but he didn't like it and said it tasted old. My daughter ordered the French dip which she thought was okay. Oh forgot to mention my husband ordered the lobster bisque and when he tasted it the look on his face made even the waiter ask if he would like to get something else instead. This place has so much potential!! If they step it up on the food I can see the crowds pouring in and it being the spot!! But if they continue serving that subpar food it won't. After reading the reviews of local restaurants we decided to give Johnny Ds a shot. As soon as we walked in we were struck in the face by a really warm temperature; warmer than the outside air temperature. After speaking with the manager he said they are adjusting the AC...needless to say we were sweating the whole time. The waiter was too..wiping the sweat from his forehead with a napkin as he waited on our table. Then we ordered mixed drinks which tasted like there was no alcohol in them. We ordered additional drinks after asking the waiter to bring us a drink that was better...it wasn't...tasted like a $10 Coke. We ordered appetizers...hummus and two rolls of Sushi. The hummus had 5 pieces of pita bread and when we asked for more they charged us an additional amount. So dumb. The sushi tasted like something you'd find at a local 7-11 that was sitting out a few days too many. While cleaning the table the waiter dropped dishes behind my son and spilled oil on his fancy hat and new shirt he got from a baseball tournament we came out to play....after that he never offered to make it right. A nice lady tried to clean the hat and shirt to no avail. We ordered expensive steaks for ourselves and kids; they were all not cooked to order. The steaks tasted like dog meat; chewy, no flavor, and would have been horrible even if I went to the dollar store to buy them; not at a supposed high end restaurant. Never-the-less take your hard earned money somewhere else...anywhere but here. For 4 adults and 4 kids it was over $600 and 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. I've never had good experiences in restaurants that are at hotels and this further solidifies that thought. Run! read more
