    CHICKEN FRIED STEAK
    Jaime J.

I visited with a group during a weekday dinner and we were seated quick. We sat inside and although it was better than experiencing the summer heat, it was too cold inside. The service was friendly and I enjoyed the meal but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. This place is great for those that enjoy live music but for me personally, I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Brunch menu is fire! Super cute indoor/outdoor restaurant with country vibes, live music, and super friendly servers. The brunch menu is a great option because you get to try all of their items: which include a delicious jicama salad, egg frittata, seasoned to perfection bacon and little desserts. If you are more on the lighter fare, the shrimp and avocado salad was perfection. Will def be back!

My bf and I were in town , had just left the zoo and I was looking for a yummy dinner and he was craving a chicken fried steak . I googled and found this restaurant which was a great surprise . The atmosphere was great , with music but it was early evening on Halloween. we parked across the street , from the parking which was not available. We ordered the fried cactus as an appetizer, delicious and the dipping sauce was yummy . I ordered the drunk chick , the tastiest and juiciest chicken I have ever had . My bf ordered the chicken fried steak , it was a big portion and he said he enjoyed it . I would definitely return again , to try more yummy options ..

The Rustic is one of the few reasons why I look forward to being in Houston. The ambience, the music, the service and of course the food and drinks are what keeps me and my friends coming back. Came with a party of 10 Friday night and everything was perfect. From our awesome server, to the strong Palomas and spicy margaritas and delicious food. It was a 5* experience. We all had so much fun, we went again Saturday night. This time with another group of friends, 9 people in total, some of whom have never been here. This was an entirely different experience. Our server seems capable and detail oriented. That is where it stopped. She took forever to bring our waters and drinks. Took even longer to bring our food. Disappeared for long periods of time. It was frustrating we could not even get water refills. She was taking care of 2 tables. The people next to us decided to leave because she never came back after giving them water. A dinner that was supposed to be a fun hour-1.5hrs turned into a 3hr ordeal. One of our friends went to voice his frustration to a guy who appeared to be a manager, who sent someone else to come talk to us. Our bills got even more confusing, we just paid whatever was given us, otherwise we would have been there until midnight. We were all miserable by the time we left. I still love the Rustic, but Saturday dinner was just awful.

The rustic jam and toast family style brunch is pretty solid, plenty of food for sure and the price is just right.

I loved the look of this place and decided to go check it out. What a cool place! Service was great and the food was SO good! I highly recommend getting Smoked Dip Duo...it's a delicious experience. Definitely plan to go back on a live music night.

For starters, it is really difficult to get here given the construction and road closures. There is free parking in the Avenida Garage for up to 3 hours, but you have to remember to bring the ticket from your vehicle for validation. There is also some limited valet parking at a cost. There is a sign saying No Left Turn and then Rustic Only with an arrow which is very confusing. You do need to turn left around construction barriers to get to the restaurant. Went there with a large group for lunch and the food was only meh. I think the concept of rustic simple food was a compelling one but the execution just fell short. The empanadas were greasy and the carnitas had no flavor. Brisket quesadillas were passable. There was a spoon bread with jalapenos dish that everyone agreed was just too spicy. Sliced cucumber and jicama with Tajin was okay, but I can do this at home. My Arnold Palmer with lemonade and unsweet tea was good. Chips and queso were too salty and the deviled eggs were blah. The servers did an excellent job. They promptly refilled drinks and brought plates as soon as they were ready. I do not blame them for the poor food quality. It was quite disappointing, given how many people say that this is a good restaurant. I will check out the Uptown location to see if it is any better before I close the door on going back.

Valet is $10. There is potentially free parking outside the lot. Live music at certain time but when I went on sunday we barely missed it. This place seems perfect for a large gathering based on its size and the type of environment when it gets packed. Server was tentative, but our first round of drinks took a while and he noticed it too. Burger - brisket was a little dry. other than that a typical burger but a little more on the expensive side. 6.8/10 Onion rings - a little spicy kick at the end! idk why i didn't expect a giant slice of onion when i bit into it but it's not very batter heavy. i guess i like my onion rings more batter which might be weird? 5.8/10

What a lovely day to enjoy the Rustic patio! I went with a group today, Saturday, during brunch. Some of us ordered the family style brunch. Others ordered individual entrees. At $19.95 per person, the family style brunch was a hit with each plate: hot chicken, avocado toast, French toast & bacon, pastries, fingerling potatoes, migas (which was more like a frittata) biscuits @ gravy, jicama & cucumber salad. Some had entree salads and they looked very fresh and full of flavor. Others had the rustic burger or hot chicken & cheese. The only minor issue some pointed out was that their hot chicken & cheese wasn't spicy but then they bit into the pepper served with it and they found the spicy and then they said it was TOO spicy. Food overall was very good and everyone was satisfied. All plates were less than $20. Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks. I had a cold brew I enjoyed. It was strong l, not too strong, cool and satisfying. The service was excellent and our waitress was on point with everything. Entertainment was a live cover artist singing Texas country & swing classics. Rustic is an excellent spot for groups of all sizes. Notes: They allow outside celebration cakes . Valet parking is $10 and you can pay with a card but it takes forever for them to bring you your car. Parking in the lot next door is only $3 (3.45$ w/ fee) , EZ, quick and good for at least 4 hrs.

This place had a really cool atmosphere! I loved the live music and the patio seating. Parking is limited and I had to do valet. The food was good, but a bit pricey. I had the hot chicken sandwich which was not hot at all and a bit dry. The Mac and cheese was really good with the hint of jalapeño! Service was pretty slow, but they were very busy.

Attended a private cocktail event at The Rustic in Downtown Houston. Parked opposite the convention center but took a longer walk in the opposite direction and circled around the highway to Polk Street. My recommendation is to walk along the convention center instead of the highway as cars could splash puddles and the walkway wasn't pedestrian friendly. Upon arrival at The Rustic, it felt like walking into a huge barn - tent. We entered the restaurant, enquired about parking and proceeded to the location of the event. The place was cool and spacious. The waitstaff took drink orders. I ordered a skinny margaritas. It was light and refreshing. There were all sorts of appetizers or cocktail bites from QUESADILLAS to EMPANADAS to VEGETABLE FRITTERS to MEATBALLS to TAMALES. The venue was cool and spacious for hanging out and we had a good time. Live music started and I headed to a corner table to soak it in. It was a nice venue to have a meal and listen to live music. The setting was very pleasant. The chipotle salmon burger which we got to go was fine but rather spicy and wet. All in all, I really liked the venue and it was a nice night out. Got the parking validation and gotta go. The parking was actually so near the venue, we just took a wrong turn on the way there. Live and learn!

Came in on a Sunday evening, seated immediately. Dress code: casual Food 4.5/5: ordered onion rings, artichokes, Mac and cheese, cucumber salad and mushroom sides for the table. Food was actually amazing, recommend the onion rings especially. Didn't really like the artichoke. Service 2/5: service was really slow, don't really blame my server seemed pretty busy with a private event going on as well but place may have just been understaffed Ambiance 4/5: rodeo themed, pretty cool for what it's meant to do, but very loud despite ample room. Value 3/5: on the expensive side but food is delicious, you get what you pay for Overall: 3.4/5: good food with unfortunately slow service. Fairly average value. Will probably come back to give a second chance on a day without a private event going on. Parking: valet parking is 10$, garage parking close by is validated by the restaurant.

Ask the Community - The Rustic

Can they accommodate a group of 20?

Yes, they have very large tables there that could seat that many, but I think you may have to call ahead just to let them know you'll have that large of a group there so they can prepare a table for you

    Are minors allowed?

    Yes... and pets too

    Any vegan options?

I did notice that they had salads on their menu. That's in addition to the their plant based menu. That's plant, as in meat packing plant.

    Do I need make reservations?

When my Wife and I went on a Friday night we were able to walk right in with minimal wait time. 10 minutes +/- if I recall correctly.

Do you need to be 21 to eat here? Or do they just check your ID when you order a drink?

don't need to be 21 to eat however they will check ID when you order a drink

Are kids allowed after dark? & they sell food till what time?

Are there live music tonight and if yes what's the genre?

Yes live band tonite and also tomo gets jam packed

I cannot see an online place for reservations, do you have to call?

    Yes!

When can I visit for live music?

Hi Marissa! Our weekly Free Live Music is every Thursday to Sunday. We post our line up every Thursday on our Instagram @therustichou.

Are dogs allowed while dining in?

I believe they are allowed in the open/outside area of the restaurant.

Do they have their own Parking?

Their parking lot is for valet only and it's just a few steps to the entrance which is dumb. They charge $7 if I remember correctly.

What type of music is most often played?

    Do take reservations?

No and the stand by system is a disaster

    Does valet take only cash?

Yes, cash only when I was there

    What days are live music?

    https://therustic.com/musicevents/

    Good for kids?

    What ages?

Anyone know if they have a party max for covid? I'm looking for somewhere that will allow a group of people for a birthday. Between 15-20 people, or at least allow multiple tables?

Most places top our anywhere from 6-10.... You can call and see what they say but I doubt ANYONE right now would honor such a request for this large of a table, however some get by, by breaking up the group into smaller tables under one or more… Read more

Do they have heaters for outside dining?

Yes! They had many outdoor heaters!

Very impressed by Sparkle City Disco as the opening act as they played classic disco infused by their own styles. Moon Taxi was amazing as well. They get the crowd into their shows and the energy was off the charts. As for the venue, the shows are on the second floor so be prepared to climb some steps. It has a bar and merchandise table next to the stage and there's plenty of standing room to watch the performance. Standing only from what I saw so wear your most comfortable shoes. Location is in EaDo next to a few bars and eats so it makes for an adventurous night in town. Look forward to more shows here; now they need to book some solid upcoming artists!

I've also been to a couple concerts in the big room like Miguel and most recently Masego. The bigger room is one huge space. It has two bars, one on either side of the stage. You also can go into the smaller room to get drinks in that bar as well. It has a lot less foot traffic and the bathroom in that side is typically cleaner than the main room. Drinks prices are average to what most lounges charge. $8 for a 16 oz beer can and around $15-17 for a drink. Depends on what you get. More if it's a double. You have to get there really early to have time to park and get close enough for a good view. Parking can be crazy and expensive especially if there is an Astros game or a dynamo games going on that day. Sunday there was a soccer game and it took us about 40 min to park. We looked for street parking first, which there was none. And all the lots were up charging because of the games. The one closest to this venue was charging $30! So we found one like 4 blocks away for $15. Wear some real comfortable shoes with good cushion and arch support because you will be standing the whole time. It honestly sucks being short or average height trying to fight for a view. You have to get there right when doors open in order to get close enough to have a fighting chance at having a good view. But who wants to stand for an hour before a concert starts? Doors opened at 7. By the time we got ready, found parking, waited in like and got inside it was about 8:30 and the first act had already started. I've tried to do the window thing where you stand in the middle behind too people. I was able to see for a little while but people of course jam, dance and move. So I couldn't see the whole time. I've had instances where people push past you to get closer and it makes the space tight. At least the sound is good. So even though I couldn't see the whole time, I heard the music clearly. Masego was awesome! I love his music. And I love when artists sound the same as they do when they record music. He is super talented.

The venue does have clear bag and bag check policies, so make sure to check on their policies on their website before arriving. This location hosts multiple different businesses. Once arrived at the location, finding the entrance/floor to the venue itself was confusing unless you've been here before. There was barely any instructions on how to get to the actual venue itself. It is located on the third floor, and the elevator for that is old and smelly. The interior of the venue was not bad, but it wasn't the best either. The venue's lighting was also super dark even before/after the concert. My group had the front row balcony seat, and the view was actually pretty decent. I had purchased the party pass which came with priority entry, a small selection of foods, and a drink. You can find the menu on their website, but the menu is pretty pricey. I got the lemonade and chicken tenders/fries, and they tasted okay. My friend had the second row floor seat (which at certain spots were blocked by stage equipments). She also paid for the associated parking ahead at the time of booking, but the parking turned out to be super far from the venue, which wasn't great either. Overall I probably would not come back here unless there was a concert I really didn't want to miss.

They also have a dedicated parking lot. They do have a small kitchen that have food here. But it is all about the concert venue here now. Some part of the venue is not really handicap friendly here. The venue is much more legit compare to back then.

Fortunately when I arrived, I followed the sign to the gate area where there's a more open area for bands to play in an outside covered area. The merchandise tables are on the left when you walk in. Go further to the left and there's a walk-up bar, seating, a small food stand and restrooms behind the bar area. Concerns eased! Had a blast watching the show which included Joey Harkum as the opener and then the Kyle Smith band as the middle act before the main act. The crowd brought awesome energy and all the bands crushed their performances. Plus the floor is very close to the stage so I was able to be up front and center to where you could slap hands with the performers if they feel like it. Only issue is parking. I heard the stories about the parking situations here and noticed that people had trouble parking or trying to figure out if they would be towed. I'd recommend doing lyft/uber here so it's one less headache to worry about. Look forward to more shows here!

It's literally small warehouse and backyard turned venue. (New and different is always cool in my book) So it has a tiny bar with limited but the right mixed drinks (they definitely did the trick). I downed awesome palomas and cold can Modelos. All was good until i had to use the pp's room! surprise, it's a tiny uhm "unique" one person unisex restroom (my bladder got a good workout that night... worth it) hopefully that changes So I got here, sober, but I left here, uhm, in a happy state I still can't get over I met Ruben from Cafe Tacvba! That's really the reason I m geeking out so much about Wonky Power, guys you got my email, so don't leave me out from future Spanish indie/alternative artists por favor carnal! ...Oo, I almost forgot! they had made to order delicious fresh hot pupusas at the entrance and damn it, boy, did they hit the alcohol full stomach like a magic eraser ! To the future patrons, it might not be your type of spot, so please be ready to come here with a very open mind

There was a guy at the parking lot entrance charging $10 and using a card reader, but there was also a sign in the parking lot that said parking was supposed to be $5 and had a pay station, so idk what that's about, but it didn't seem like a major issue. The venue entrance was basically in the parking lot. With someone there to check tickets/charge entrance all night, it felt like the parking lot would be safe since it was basically being monitored by the door people. The outdoor stage had a really nice vibe with lights and cute decor. I went for a specific dj playing on the 2nd floor though, so I went straight there and enjoyed the music. The ac was blasting on the dance floor. Best ac I've ever experienced at a venue. I don't even think I was sweating, which is unheard of. The sound was also the best out of any venue I've been to, but I was standing in the center of the dance floor with the speakers pointed at me from every direction. The sound wasn't as good outside of those speakers, but I don't remember it being bad. The drink I tried was good, strong, not watered down, but a little pricey. I think a whiskey sour was $16 for one of those smallish plastic cups. Service was quick though and I didn't notice long lines at the bar. Now, for the cons. It was really bright at times. I wish I brought sunglasses. The dance floor felt like it was gonna collapse. You could feel it bouncing up and down because of all the people jumping on it. It made me pretty anxious because of how unstable it felt. The people in the crowd can be too much. This can happen anywhere, but it felt like there were more socially unaware people than other venues because it's open later and probably attracts drunk people wanting to party longer than other venues allow. There were a lot more guys than girls. I'd say maybe 80%. Also a lot of tall people the specific night I went lol that made it even harder to see the dj because the dj booth isn't elevated for some reason. I know the ceiling is low, but PLEASE ELEVATE THE DJ BOOTH. People like to look at the dj, but most people couldn't see him. It makes a huge difference, especially if you're paying a lot for a ticket. All in all, though, the cons weren't that bad and the pros were great! This is now one of my favorite venues to see a dj! I just hope they elevate that dj booth!
