This was my first experience in shopping at The Royal Chocolate in Town Center. I curb parked across the street. While it was a cold and windy Saturday in February, it was warm and welcoming inside. I walked around, taking in all the wonderful chocolate confections, and considered what a wonderful valentine I could put together. I was in no hurry, and with the help of Emani, my server, I was able to create a custom box of wonderful chocolate Valentine treats for my lovely wife. So happy shopping here!! Highly recommend. Not so happy: "Virginia Beach Curb Parking Enforcement" dampened my happy satisfaction with a parking ticket. Be aware that in Town Center, curb parking is STRICTLY enforced using a roving car with roof mounted cameras computerized to photograph your car and issue parking tickets. Those tickets are $40 each. I highly recommend that Shop Owners on Central Park Ave, post a sign by the cash register, alerting shoppers to the risks of curb street parking as a courtesy to their customers. What store owner wants a customer to return to their car to find a parking ticket after a wonderful purchase experience ??? read more

This business is every child's dream come true. My granddaughter is a regular here since both her and her mother have serious sweet tooth's. This time she asked her mother if she could invite grandma (me). They didn't inherit their sweet tooth's from me but every now and then I can appreciate something sweet especially if it's as good as the chocolate served here. I was spending time with my grandson so he got an invitation as well. He was so happy and excited to experience fondue. The fruits were fresh and delicious. The pound cake is always a favorite (need to remember to get two portions instead of one), and this time we got pretzels. Everything was delicious and everyone had a good time and throughly enjoyed it. I absolutely love chocolate, but I'm not a fan of paying outrageous prices for it. While their products are definitely good--especially the presentation--I just can't justify those inflated costs. The young man working there was attentive and smart, checking in on customers, including me, to see if I needed any assistance. Most of the chocolates in the display case are priced by the pound, which can really add up quickly. If I visit this place, it's usually because my sister wants to use her reward points. The candy apple she chose was fantastic. She shared it with me, and the layers of caramel and chocolate, topped with sprinkles on the outside of the Granny Smith apple, were absolutely delicious! I particularly enjoy the dried fruit dipped in chocolate, especially the ginger. The combination of the sweet and rich chocolate with the zesty, chewy ginger creates a delightful contrast in flavors. The chocolate and candy apples are good, just watch the overall pricing and upcharges. I also didn't appreciate the way the staff handled my questions. One box of 12 pre-assorted Birnn truffles from the shelf is $26. If you select 12 truffles from the case and they are put in a bag, it's $24. If you prefer the same 12 truffles selected from the case go in a box versus a bag, it's now $26 PLUS a $5 upcharge for the box = $31. That's a 30% upcharge for a throwaway box?!? Wild. When I pushed back a bit on the pricing (are you sure the box is $5 extra? That's not on the pricing sign), I was told it was because of the cost of labor and productivity goals; she was supposed to be making a certain number of chocolates an hour and getting the box cuts into those goals. It was such an excessive, bizarre and patronizing conversation for what should be 45 extra seconds of work and a $0.50 box. I understand she didn't set the prices, but I certainly didn't need the weird justification. Plus there is a 4% upcharge for using a credit card, so I used cash which added a bunch of time and trip to "the back" to get back inexact change back. At that point, I was happy to leave. In a previous visit, the hot chocolate was blisteringly hot and incredibly underwhelming/watered down. I ended up tossing most of my kids expensive drinks. Wow! I cannot believe that The Royal Chocolate has been right around the corner from me for almost two years and I just found out about it. This is definitely the best specialty, gourmet candy shop in Virginia Beach. I was killing some time and needed to shop for stocking stuffers, so stumbled inside and was immediately greeted by two things: a decadent scent and incredibly friendly employees. The customer service was what was most impressive to me. Every person working seemed happy to be there and happy to help their customers. I ordered an array of items and spent quite a bit of time chatting with the gentleman who helped me. I ordered a few of their gorgeous apples, a 6-pack of their beautiful truffles and a few of their homemade chocolate treats. I can't actually comment on taste quite yet -- that will come after Christmas, but since I did have a few little samples in store, I feel pretty darn confident that everything will be perfection. read more

The cutest, most regal looking chocolate shop I've ever been to (and smelt incredible!) I was invited here by a good friend of mine and treated to the fondue for 2 combo to-go for my husband and I to have a little date night at home. Let me tell you, we ABSOLUTELY LOVED it! We had the option of choosing 2 drinks (we opted for the white chocolate cookies n cream milkshakes), milk, dark or white chocolate fondue, a variety of fruits and snacks such as pretzels and pound cake and there were even packaged chocolates for us to have later (see our cute date night setup at home attached to the review!) As soon as walked in I had to look around, I thought I walked into heaven! The wonderful, intoxicating, aroma of chocolate filled the whole store!! As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the chocolatier's and they walk you through the chocolate cases, they also answer any questions you have! The store is absolutely beautiful!! They have such beautiful displays!! I was memorized by the chocolatier making candy!!! I watched her pour and spoon out chocolate on a sheet pan it took everything in me not to lick the glass. ( that's a joke I wouldn't actually do that, at least while anyone is looking) lol. They have specials apparently they offer daily specials well I fell into the daily special hook line and sinker! Buy a 12 piece box of chocolate get one free!! Who doesn't need 24 pieces of delicious chocolate? The customer service here is top notch. I had a very knowledgeable young lady explained all the displays and cases!! She shared the information about the special. She helped sign me up for the rewards program, which I'm sure will come in handy!! I fell so in love with place I asked if they are hiring I would work weekends!! I want to just make candy and be a chocolatier!! The only downside to this absolutely intoxicating store is that they are not dog friendly!! Customer Service was alright, friendly, but the women we got must've been new, she seemed irritated when we were deciding and also spoke very soft, we had to ask her to repeat herself multiple times, and we had to correct her on one of the prices. Decent chocolate assortment and caramel apples, although expensive, they're alright for a special treat. The main thing i had a problem with was the fact that they're charging $7 for hot chocolate when it's quite literally hot WATER and swiss miss. On my first trip, I went with my niece and treated her to fondue for two, and she enjoyed her time. We chose our four items for our fondue and white, milk, or dark chocolate for dipping. We enjoyed the milk chocolate so much that we ordered the other two to try out. I also left with a pound of each to take home to my family so we could have fondue at home. They include two drinks when ordering the Fondue for two packages. We both chose a cold drink. On trip two, my niece ordered an Oreo white chocolate apple and said it was amazing!! On this trip, I purchased the best turtle chocolates I've ever had. They are the size of a cookie! The caramel is so soft and chewy, with the fresh crunch of the nut making for a perfect treat. They have many flavors and goodies of chocolate candies, drinks, and fondue. We took home a couple of other items, which were all fantastic! The staff was fantastic. The Royal Chocolate is such a cute place. We stopped by here because I had a gift certificate that was gifted to me. I called ahead of time to see if I needed to make reservations, but they said I was okay to come in the same day. The staff was nice and told us to pick any open table. We ordered our chocolate fondue with 4 dipping items with no problems. The tray was out before we knew it. The chocolate was so rich and tasty and paired well with each of the dipping items we got. This is definitely a cute place for a date night or a good place to stop for dessert after dinner in Va Beach Town Center. Always a treat here. One thing I can always say is they make a damn good chocolate covered pretzel. I often come here for their holiday themed pretzel sticks. They usually do sprinkles/colors to match the holiday that is near...I love little attention to detail things like that. In a chocolatier store that's very important, because it can get overwhelming with so many different items. You don't know what's covered in chooclate, stuffed with caramel, or layered in cream haha...so you really need that help, but you know it makes ya feel so anxious trying to find someone to ask...so my anxiety that's you for being ready at the door :) . I really appreciate that every time. When I came in this time a lovely women assisted me in ordering my pretzels, and waited so so patiently as I looked from counter to counter to add more things (I wish we had exchanged names, but the store was so busy which of course cause they're awesome!). I went with the white chocolate truffle bunny (as it is Easter), and also some of the peanut butter cups. My whole bag was a 10/10. The peanut butter cups were coated in a delicious and rich chocolate with a smooth peanut butter that always melts right in my mouth. The pretzels...fresh thick pretzels coated in get this..fresh Carmel...then DOUBLE coated in their fresh chocolate...then the third coat is sprinkles...like come on you know we love a grand reveal here, so I'm always pleasantly surprised biting into it and getting that salted crunch of pretzel, then the chewy sweet of caramel, followed by the rich coating of chocolate...ending with a sweet fun crunch of sprinkles! It can't be beat. Their chocolate covered pretzel sticks hit for me every time. I mean you can tell by how I write about them that these pretzels and I have a very loving relationship and we know each other well lol. (Yes I talk about my food the way bob from bob's burgers does when it's this good). My boyfriend really adores the fruit covered options they have, makes him feel good when he indulges in chocolate lol. Awesome friendly staff! Management is a bit brash though. She came out and yelled at an employee right in front of my husband and two other customers. I did not appreciate that. The confectionery treats we purchased were amazing and the ice cream was delicious! I would love to return and purchase more from this business. But luckily, I have a friend that was super excited to show me the way to The Royal Chocolate! We stopped in this past Friday and upon entering, about 7 feet away from the front door, I could smell the aromas from outside... I smiled instantly! I usually make my own chocolate covered anything, but this place was amazing to visit! The ladies inside were super friendly and very eager to wait on us! There is so much to choose from... pricing ranging from $1 to I don't even know... but there is something for the dessert lover in you. I brought some cinnamon and sugar coated pecans. They were positioned under a heating lamp which kept them warm... I made my purchase and opened up the bag about 10 minutes later and the freshness and flavors were still in tact! I couldn't stop! Super addictive! The store has a 'check in' offer. Once you 'check in' via Facebook, collect your free truffle! The truffle choices did not include nuts, I love chocolate with nuts, but I opted for the Butter Pecan truffle... amazing! One was enough :) This place offers fondue as well and many special events throughout the year. Currently, they have Easter Baskets for sale. Check out their Facebook page for more information. Most recently my patronizing of the business consisted of calling and ordering chocolates to be delivered to my mom for Mother's Day. I called the day of thinking they'd have to deliver the following day but they were still actually able to fit me on the same day delivery. Because of covid and Mother's Day they were doing discounted delivery within the city, so that was awesome. The chocolates arrived and they looked great as I saw from the photo my mom sent and she enjoyed them so that's the main thing! This is a must-go place if you are a chocolate lover. Once you get into the store you can smell the chocolate, and the whole store is full of chocolate. They sell both handmade chocolates and package chocolates. They also sell chocolate drinks, which my friend and I had today. I had the dark chocolate frozen and my friend had the cookie n cream froze.. Mines is good but my friend's one is too sweet for me but I always prefer less sweet so my friend loved it tho. And last but not least, they have the chocolate fondue. It's 19.99 and you can choose 3 or 4 food to dip. Today I had a birthday party for my 9 year old daughter at The Royal Chocolate. When I found this website, I had never heard of parties at this location. It was outstanding!!! The party host Brita was unbelievable. She was so engaging with the children and taught them about making chocolate and kept their attention. Each child got to make a customized chocolate bar and hand dipped rice crispy treat and take them home in a pretty box that they decorated themselves. And I didn't have to do a thing. Their caramel pretzel sticks are THE BEST!!!! The caramel just gives it a soft chew with the chocolate before the crispy pretzel uncovered at the very bottom.
