I met a friend for a bite and some drinks on a late Sunday afternoon. It was pretty busy...Inside was very loud, so I wanted to sit outside. I was able to get us a table outside without any wait at all! The server came around immediately. We both ordered Skinny Margaritas which were delicious and then we got Truffle Fries which were also yummy! The drinks and fries came out quickly - it felt like no time at all. The server was very attentive and checked in on us regularly. We each had two drinks and shared the fries and I think the bill was around $60. I would love to go back and try some other menu items next time. The ambiance was trendy and fun. I used the restroom on the way out and was happy to see that it was very well kept (which is important to me and says something about the overall cleanliness of a restaurant in my opinion). They are located in the heart of Encinitas - so many fun things to do and see, so a great location for hanging with friends or on a date! I was able to find street parking very easily, so don't let the crowded environment discourage you! If you don't fund one up front, go to the west side behind the main road where it is residential. Came here for brunch this morning and the streets were crazy crowded! The interior of the restaurant is very cute and has plenty of seating. We had a large group - almost 15 people and we were treated with great service. I got the breakfast croissant and a mimosa. Overall it was a pretty good sandwich. I liked the bacon aioli that was included in the sandwich! My only confusion was that one of our party members had avocado in his sandwich.. and the other two people and myself did not. That was a bummer! That was probably my only small gripe from the experience. Our boss got his crazy drink - everything but the kitchen sink, I didn't try it - but if you're into Bloody Mary's you may want to check it out! It's pretty much an entire meal on its own! Terrible experience. Four of us sat down at 6:20 tonight. For a burger, a pasta, a mushroom risotto, and the pork belly adobo we waited over 2 hours for no clear reason. We had to ask multiple times for our check and we tried to cancel our order but our server was nowhere to be found. $268 for subpar service and American cuisine. We went there for a friend's Bday party. I called the night before and was told I could bring a Bday Cake in. When we got the bill, they charged us a $15 cutting fee!!! The food was very salty. The stroganoff in particular!! It was never mentioned to us the night before or at the time they brought the cake out about a $15 cutting fee. I would of done it myself!! What makes this whole thing worse, is that the cake was little. 6 inches in diameter!! The cake cutting fee was quite a shock!! I don't like business that add a sneaky charge on your bill!! While I struggled with the dinner menu at Roxy, I was pleased to see that the brunch menu had several items more to my liking. I settled on the turkey club with no sprouts or onions, the bacon on the side and added swiss cheese. The garlic aioli sold me on the sandwich when I read it but I felt like the flavor could have been stronger. I brought the second half home and added some dijon mustard to it to add some more flavor. The seasoned fries were delicious with a side of ranch though. The ambiance of the restaurant remained the same as my previous dinner review. A friend of mine lives in downtown Encinitas, so a group of us came up on a Sunday to pre-game with mimosas at her place, then walk to brunch. Once we were off to eat, we realized she didn't really have a plan so we decided to just walk down the street until we found something that looked good. It was a Sunday football late morning, so many places were very loud and very crowded, which generally is a fun atmosphere, but we were really wanting somewhere that we didn't have to wait to eat as we were starving and we also wanted to be able to hear each other speak. In comes The Roxy to the story. We passed by and it wasn't overly crowded and looked promising. We were seated right away, which was wonderful. I immediately liked the ambiance of this place. It has a slight Gatsby vibe with it's decor, though I think they were going more for "hip and cool". I really enjoyed the live feel good music playing in the background too. Unfortunately, I wasn't thrilled with my food or our waitress. First off, she wasn't a very pleasant person. She was very short and blunt in her speaking and I didn't see her smile once. She was just not welcoming or warm at all. I opted to try the Chiliquilles Verde and they were just not very good. The chips were crunchy and weren't soggy, which is usually a positive, except that this was due to the lack of Verde sauce. The plate was overall pretty dry and chiliquilles are supposed to be smothered with the sauce, among other things. What little sauce that was on there, was far too sweet tasting for a dish that is supposed to be savory. I heard mixed reviews across the table. Some of the girls seemed to really like their meals, and others weren't thrilled with either their food or cocktails. So there are obviously some redeeming menu items; if I were in the area and others wanted to go there, I'd be willing to give it another try, but it wouldn't be my first choice when there are so many other places in the area. read more

Usually, I would rate this place considerably higher, but my visit today (5/3/0/22) was probably one of the most unpleasant service experiences that I've had since I've been coming here. I showed up around 1:30 PM, and there was no crowd. We were seated immediately but didn't even get a drink order for over 30 minutes. There wasn't even an attempt to bring water. The awful part is that the server was sitting less than 10 feet from us with his head down,, sitting next to the hostess, reading something and ignoring our presence. There were numerous servers that passed by, but none acknowledged that we were there. I'm a pretty patient guest and usually try not to get emotional one way or another, but there were at least two other tables that were seated right after us that got served. The server (Joseph Ro) once my wife got his attention apologized, but it was too late at that point. His excuse was that we were in the middle of a shift change. This will be my last time coming back. I usually bring my clients and co-workers here when they come into town, but now I will have to take my business somewhere else. read more

I need to express my deep appreciation for Andrew (the bouncer). While coming to The Roxy for live music is always a favorite, Andrew came up HUGE with managing an overly rowdy customer who was attempting to start fights with everyone in a mile radius. His professionalism and quick actions mitigated an escalating situation that led to the removal of said wannabe MMA fighter, so we were able to go back to having a blast at my favorite bar. Very disappointed the last time I went here. Went for lunch on a Sunday. Was not acknowledged for 10 minutes at an outside table and walked out. I ate here Friday night and it was so fun! I had the Roxy burger and it was so delicious. The patty was full of flavor and it was very juicy. The service here is also excellent even at the busy hours. Our waitress was sweet and I think the manager even stopped to ask how we were doing and she was very nice and friendly that evening. Everything about this burger is delicious. The bun was soft and the meat was cooked perfectly. The live music was also very fun and it made the atmosphere so lively and exciting. Came in for brunch and went straight for the bottomless mimosas. On a Saturday at 11:30am it wasn't busy and we got a table for 3 right away. I went for the breakfast croissant and it was a good choice. The flavors mixed so well together & it wasn't a big sandwich so it was satisfying. Instead of potatoes I went for the fries since I heard that's one of the things they're known for and YUMMY! I can't wait to go back & try out more dishes! This place was recommended by some people so I decided to check it out while I was in the area. I ordered a Boston Sour and a Beef Stroganoff pasta with mushrooms in a rich cream sauce. The drink was nice and light and the entree was on the heavy side. The beef was quite tough to chew as well as the pasta. I had to ask the waitress 3 times before she actually brought over a knife. Ok, confession. I think it took me as long as it did to visit the Roxy because I assumed it'd be similar to the Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan movie. :-) No offense to that Haddaway song, but I'm definitely past the point in my life where I want to be anywhere around an atmosphere like that when I'm out on the town. I was totally wrong though. The Roxy is exactly the opposite of the word association that I'd made up in my head. It's actually a really awesome bar and restaurant with live tunes almost every night their open. Musical genres are pretty across the board, but I can almost guarantee after my first visit that "What Is Love" has never been played there. Well...maybe Halloween or something. Food was actually really tasty and the atmosphere...totally appropriate for either a date or picking up someone new. The chill vibe, great cocktails, and fun music make it a must if you're doing a night out in Encinitas. I still can't believe it took me so long to come to this classic, but I'm glad I finally cleared up the misconception I'd created. read more

Reviews for this restaurant seem all over the place. We came because we had heard an amazing band in the back a few weeks prior, but were told on arriving that they are no longer serving in the back. So, we sat near the street, which is fine, but just be aware that the music is limited to the main dining area and, for us on a Saturday night, the band seemed to be very marginal, guys playing their version of classic rock and I certainly hope they have day jobs, b/c they were simply not that good. We waited about 40 minutes after being seated, trying our best to be patient, then I presumed we were in a zone that no servers had assigned to them, and I complained. A server came and was very friendly, not rude as I've read about others that work here. The food was very good, but the options were very limited and I ended up with a hamburger, something I would not normally order on a dinner date. Bottom line is this place seems to attract a young crowd that want to be seen and want to be trendy - for now, that is the Roxy. I went for brunch with my husband and got the basic breakfast (they were out of my first choice of Belgian waffles) and a Bloody Mary and my husband got a Reuben sandwich. I ordered bacon with the original breakfast but they brought sausage instead. The Bloody Mary was one of the worst I've had. The toppings were ok and that's where it ended. The rest of the drink was not drinkable. If you like bread, the Reuben was good but that's about it. Minimal meat, no sauerkraut, lots and lots of bread. In addition, the fries it came with were over cooked. If nothing else is open I would maybe go back but would not be my first, second, or third choice. read more

They made my burger wrong. (We had cut it in half to see it. It was way under cooked. )They happily took the plate away and brought it back. But they brought back the burger they made wrong on a smaller plate leaving our French fries off. The bite mark from my wife is even still there oh and the bun was soggy and inedible. I get it for a steak but a burger is soooo easy. The problem I'm sure is "we don't have enough staff". I don't want to hear it since there is still a surcharge on the menu. If you are going to give bad service due to resources lower the price to match the product being delivered. (now that I've seen the bill, continue reading to understand this amendment) it is a 3.95% surcharge due to rising wages. If you're understaffed you have more than offer 3.95%, maybe this is a little insincere and should be removed. (Just a thought) I feel for the employees this an owner issue.
