Oxford tea and scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream
    Randy T.

Came here for afternoon tea with friends and enjoyed our experience here. We sat outside and besides the tables and chairs being very close to the road with traffic flying by, it was very pleasant. The scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream were delicious and they had a decent selection of teas. I paid a little more than I wanted to for the amount that I got, and there was some confusion between what the waiter told us about a meal deal they advertised, but besides that I was satisfied with the experience.

Had a lovely lunch during a visit to Oxford. We stopped in after a few hours of walking around Oxford. We were able to sit immediately. My cousin had the vegetarian ciabatta, and I had the chicken mushroom risotto. It took us quite a while to get our food. Others that ordered after us had theirs very quickly. We thought that it may have been the risotto, but the person next to us got the risotto right away. The food was delicious, but the service was just A-OK. It was a rather hot day so we didn't order tea, but I'd love to go back for tea and crumpets! They had a lovely selection of teas.

We decided to take a detour and see Oxford for the afternoon and we figured we'd partake in some classic afternoon tea while we were here. I saw the really good reviews for The Rose so we stopped in. We had scones with jam and clotted cream, tea sandwiches, and cake along with our tea. It was fantastic! They didn't have a super extensive selection of teas but the food was quite good. The scones were fresh out of the oven, the sandwiches were perfect, and I lived the coffee mascarpone cake. I'd definitely recommend this if you're in town. Just a note for car owners, parking is really hard to find nearby. But the walk thru town is lovely.

I dunno if this is appetising to you, but I really want this after looking at it

I know most people probably come here for tea, but I was hungry after a long and stressful early morning, so my flatmate and I came here for brunch. We both ended up having the omelette, which was HUGE and so filling, but so tasty that I somehow found a way for my stomach to encapsulate it all. It's an omelette I think about every time I want an omelette, but it's a shame I haven't had time to go back. I'd highly recommend checking this place out!

This place is super popular during afternoon time! I would highly reccomend you make reservations before you go, otherwise prepare to akwardly wait at the door while others are enjoying their tea (they do not have much room to stand). The tea was actually really nice and they bring it out with the little pot and you poor your own tea with a strainer. The tea was really good and they have lots of options to pick from. What made the afternoon tea more enjoyable was the scones. They were absolutely lovely, and came out warm and crumbly. I wish they gave you 3-4 instead of just two. The cream and jam on top just made the scones even better!

I have several food intolerances so when asking about the ingredients in their homemade cakes I got a message back via the waitress that she can't guarantee the cakes were free from what I was intolerant to. As people with food intolerances are always ending up having to go without gorgeous food, I asked if I could have more detail of what was in the cakes so I could make a decision on what it was I could or couldn't eat, just in case there was something I could have. This was very obviously an inconvenience to the waitress and the manager who had baked them. She tried again to say she couldn't guarantee anything because obviously this was the quickest way to solve the issue for herself, but after explaining that I'd like to try to see if there was something I could eat, it was again very plain that I was wasting her time. It was late afternoon and they weren't busy, so I would have appreciated a couple of minutes of her time without the attitude. After finding out there was indeed a piece of cake I could eat, I sat down to enjoy it only to be served it with more attitude by the waitress. If she could have got away with grunting at me I sure she would have! I unfortunately had to ask for a pot of hot water as the tea didn't come with one, and AGAIN got a look saying 'are you bothering me again?!'. Cleanliness was also not great with tea-stained table clothes, dying roses on the table, and also dust on the teapot holding the roses which was next to an open sugar bowl which no doubt had the same amount of dust in it! Also, amazingly, a dog walking around the kitchen area with it's bed behind the serving counter!! (Yes, I am about to inform environmental health dept!!) Lastly, my table was being cleared before I had finished. I did notice however, that the other table still in there didn't have their table touched, so I'm guessing that was a touch of nastiness from the waitress also. I was there looking for a place to take 18-20 friends for my birthday which is coming up soon as we fancied a gorgeous afternoon tea, but we will definitely be going somewhere else after that experience!

I had just gotten off a long bus ride from London and checked into my room, and I was really in the mood for something cold to drink. When trying to find Formosan Tea Bar at first, it was a bit confusing. There was an alley with a sign for Formosan Tea Bar, and walking down the alley felt very sketchy and weird. But it's at the end of this sketchy and weird alley where you can find the entrance to Formosan Tea Bar. Once inside, it certainly looked much nicer than from the alley. The Japanese gentleman (and I knew he was Japanese because he told me his ethnicity) with a lovely British accent let me sample a few of the teas, and we had a nice conversation about the teas, the weather, the sweetness levels of the tea, and helped me decide which one I liked best. I chose a black tea with lemon juice and tapioca balls. It was so refreshing and delicious, and I could instantly see why they had the best bubble tea in Oxford. The one negative part of my experience was when I was about to snap a photo of the bubble tea menu, but then the caucasian guy working there just yelled at me. Don't worry, I'm already looking into it :) Anyway, after a slightly disappointing lunch and walking about Bibury and a bit into the country, we decided to have a cream tea. Along the main road, you'll find a souvenir shop, The William Morris Inn, and their Tea Room. The door was open and we could see the cakes on the table (well played!) so we walked... actually ducked in. All six tables were occupied with someone paying at the till. We looked around and one of the staff said that they would have a table in about 5 minutes. As we were waiting we were taking in the sights... two fires burning (it wasn't cold at all), various cakes on the table (Chocolate, Coffee & Walnut, Lemon Drizzle, Victoria Sponge, Blackcurrent, Shortbread, Bibury Bark, and a few others), lots of random china, and thank you cards placed throughout the room. They also sell ice cream, in cups, but not sure what flavors. After they cleaned the table, we headed to the table in the corner, next to the fire and to a display cabinet with lots of breakable teapots! As we were looking at the menu, we noticed a couple of things... 1) there were 5 staff and 6 tables, 2) the guy who was handling money was also handling the utensils and cups... but not by the handles, and 3) it seemed quite unorganized. You would think that with 5 staff to 6 tables, it would be very organized and smooth, but it wasn't. It wasn't the worst I have seen, but it could have been running a bit smoother. The other thing I noticed was that maybe they could have made better use of the space. I kind of think that 6 4-seat tables limits business... for example the man that came in to have lunch by himself, while the group of four that came left after being told the wait might be about 20-30 minutes. Maybe a combination of different table sizes might help, but as I was telling this to Mr. Snarky he mentioned that maybe the 6 tables is all they can handle. Fair point. One of the staff came around and took our order: two scones with jam and clotted cream, one tea (English Breakfast), and one hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream. On the tables they have laminated pictures of Bibury with recipes from the area on the back. They do sell them, but not sure for how much. Great idea as I did want some of the recipes, however, it occurred to me that some people might just write the recipes down or take pictures with their phones. I did no such thing, but I thought about it. I was taking another look at the table of cakes, when I saw the staff making Mr. Snarky's hot chocolate. A tin was opened and a scoop of hot chocolate mix was dropped into a tartan cup. I was a bit worried that Mr. Snarky's snarkiness level would hit another high after lunch earlier. Tea and hot chocolate arrived at the table. I let my tea steep a bit further, but Mr. Snarky went in for the first sip. He described it as warm water with a hint of chocolate... and by the looks of it, it was just a very, very light brown colour. If you're going to use a pre-made chocolate powder, at least use enough to make it worth drinking. The scones were hot when they came out, which was a nice touch and also made it a bit easier to warm up the clotted cream for easier spreading. That part was good, not my favourite cream tea, but still good. I did notice the large bowls of Minestrone Soup and plates of a large salad with lots of different veg that looked quite nice. So it is another lunch option, much more affordable than The Swan down the road. I think they could do with a few improvements, but then again as the only tea room in Bibury, they can afford not to.

I found it rude and explained to him that we are trying and it's not that easy to negotiate with young kids. Also, told him that if they are unable to tolerate it they should have a clear "No young children" policy. For that the reply I got from was beyond shocking "Other people have control over their kids and you guys don't have!" Seriously, who are these people to offer free parenting advice to customers? Our kids were just talking loud and NOT throwing a tantrum or causing any damage. We felt un-welcomed and decided to leave. We said "We are leaving. This is disappointing service and they need to work on that" and for that we got a "Off you go.. off you go... please leave now"!! Shocking and unbelievable bad. If you have young children don't waste your time going here. They have zero sense of customer service. I would highly recommend they have a no young children policy upfront to save parents the pain of listening to their parental advice. Most parents would respect that if restaurants have such policies.
