Tried their outdoor crepe stand later in the day, so it wasn't busy. My savoury crepe was decent, but everything else was not. Blond/ginger-ish young man taking order seemed to be high or something. He was really odd and slow at responding when taking my order. Weirdest thing was after he took my order (btw-only people in the queue were just me and the person who had ordered before me), less than a minute later he looks at me again and asks what I want to order as if I was a brand new customer? He wasn't the only odd one that night though, as the man in charge of the crepes was also having an off day and when someone came back saying he had given her the wrong crepe, he had a big strop by first arguing with her then making a big show of having to throw away the crepe and discarding the batter he had put on the hot plate for mine. Then someone else came up to order and demanded his order be made first as he was in a hurry, the chef complied with neither apology nor acknowledgment that he'd pushed back my order. We got the traditional English breakfast that comes with baked beans, black pudding, sausage, potatoes and mushrooms, bacon, and toast. They have a variety of baked goods, pastries and desserts. Ducked into this cafe on a rainy Saturday afternoon to escape what else? The rain. I ordered a plain ol' cuppa with a slice of their earl grey lemon cake, while my friend got the matcha latte and a chocolate brownie. The tea was standard... Not much to say about that. The earl grey lemon cake was interesting to say the least. The cake went from wet, soggy, and kind of mushy on the bottom tier, to dry and crumbly on the upper two tiers. I'm not sure if this was intentional since I'm not a baker and don't know much about pastries, but it did catch me a bit off guard and was a bit off putting. I like my cakes to be moist all around, and this was both a bit too moist and dry all at the same time. My friend's matcha latte looked yummy and well done though, and her chocolate brownie was moist, dense, and chocolatey. I do love the ample seating Art Cafe has, and their prices are more than reasonable. Do drop in if you want an affordable afternoon tea! read more

I was on a day trip to Oxford on Monday with a friend and we were wandering around the beautiful and very academic city going to museums, parks, bars and cafes. I did not want to go to any chain cafe, so I looked up some cafes on Yelp and the name (Art Cafe) itself caught my fancy. This beautiful cafe is right in the middle of Oxford City Center and will definitely catch your attention because of the minimalist yet simple white and bright green colors outside. When we walked in, we thought it was small but then realized that there were 3 floors to this small independent cafe - Impressive! They have a great collection of fresh fruit smooties, I had a berry blast (raspberry, strawberry and blackberry) smoothie and my friend went for a Mango, Banana and Passion Fruit one. I have to say I did not pick the best one because of the million seeds that was there in mine. The cafe has free wifi and is decorated with beautiful photographs and art on the walls. The seating arrangement is very simple yet nice, I can imagine this would be a great place for students to come and do some work - fresh break from the library for sure. The price was not too high either, 7.50 for two smoothies is pretty decent. Verdict: If you are visiting oxford, do stop by here for a coffee and nice break! read more

I had been previously here and I had found it pretty standard. The english breakfast wasn't fantastic but not bad either. Having been here a second time about 2 weeks ago, I found it simply disappointing. First they refused to make an egg white omelette - really not an incredible order but apparently undoable. Then upstairs all the tables were disgustingly sticky. It was really gross to sit there or try to prop your arms on the table. The food was mediocre at best in terms of portion size and flavour. Maybe breakfast isn't their thing - should have gone with a sandwich or panini. Overall, I can't recommend this place because I was throughly disgusted with the sticky tables. Very unique cafe. The seating is on two stories and space is tight, but the environment is relaxing on a weekend. Menu is quite large. I ordered and recommend the marinated tofu wrap. Everything was fresh and made on demand. The one negative is the narrow stairway, so people are constantly waiting for each other to pass when going up and down. read more

The coffee here is good and reasonably price, although the size is modest. The food looks good and is reasonable if taking away, but almost a pound more to eat in. We were here on a Sunday morning, and there was plenty of space. The staff are also incredibly friendly and helpful - in a short period of time we witnessed them helping both elderly people and a mother with push chair, on each occasion without prompting. The location is also good, although there are certainly cafes with more beautiful views than the county hall and central library if one is visiting Oxford and wants an 'experience'. read more

Exploring Oxford as a new local, interior, staff and exhibition are all great additions to the good atmosphere. The coffee is of a good standard, and they can do a good range of drinks. I came across this cafe by googling local cafes in Oxford and by the other nice reviews, I decided to try it out. It's a tiny little place so it's easy to walk right passed it, so don't miss it! The lime green signs help though! They offer a nice range of soups, sandwiches, bagels, breakfast (served all day), pastries and coffees/teas. The staff was really attentive and nice. I ordered the breakfast pancakes and a small chai latte. The prices were good in my eyes, both came out to £6.65. It's 3 stories, so you have to walk upstairs for seating and since I went around lunch time, I had to go to the third floor which was empty. I enjoyed my meal and the free wifi! The pancakes were yummy and the fruit it came with (blueberries & strawberries) were fresh. I noticed other food people had ordered and it all looked delicious. I was at the City Centre first day I arrived at Oxford, running errands like a headless chicken. Having just stepped off the plane, I was craving some real food. Cue Art Cafe (formerly known as Green's Cafe?) This place is tiny when you go in, but it's like a hidden treasure! The menu and choices of sandwiches were overwhelming, but I saw the Bacon, Brie and Cranberry panini (served hot) and I knew I wanted it. The first bite was an amalgam of creamy, savory and sweet goodness. Heaven. I guess something I've learned is that people don't look at you weird here if you're chomping down on a sandwich while you're walking around town, which is perfect because that's exactly what I was doing. The best hot chocolate I ever had was at this cafe in Oxford. I stopped by here the first day I arrived for my 4 month stay in Oxford. After that first day I was hooked. I came back almost every day. I always got the the hot chocolate with a chicken sandwich. They had free wifi, so I would come and write my papers here. The staff Fernando, John, and Alice I remember so well. Literally the worst place of its kind in Oxford. Not only did the staff allow a woman to barge in front of me and literally talk across my face despite having seen that I was first in the queue, they then proceeded to 1. Serve me the wrong drink - two of the wrong drink, actually. 2. Insist that I had ordered the wrong drink - some weird green thing I'd never even heard of and certainly did not order. 3. Charge me incorrectly. 4. Be extremely rude about it all. The coffee I eventually got was fine. However, I also asked for a panini which was horrible. The bread tasted stale, the onion was cut so thickly that it wasn't even warm let alone cooked and overpowered the rest of it, and the tuna mayo didn't have enough mayo so the whole thing was dry. There are probably 50+ places to get a sandwich and a coffee in Oxford. I advise you to pick another one. ANY other one. The horrendous service and terrible food quality are just not good enough in a competitive environment. read more

Yuck this place well dump is a terrible place I took my husband there once and the food was still raw as we had a full English breakfast or could call it a full breakfast s**t the sausages was still raw like they just took them out of the packet and plopped em on the plates the seated area was filthy as the dust in there and greasy plates and cutlery..as won't ever return there for a meal not even a drink the cups is even filthy.I used to work there and the state of there cooking equipment is well yuck or what it's all thick and I mean thick with grease and grime and black burnt food.as people saying that this is a good place to eat well think again as u be better off going to the nightshelter for a meal but u lot saying oh nice place well it ain't whatsoever. read more
