This place opened in May of 2012, and no one has bothered to review them? For shame! :P I walk down High Street fairly often to go to class, and I randomly came upon a sign that led me to this cute little bubble tea shoppe. This location is down at the end of Wheatsheaf Yard; it may be a bit difficult to find at first, but there are so many unique stores tucked away in alleys, so you will get used to it. I had to go down a cobblestone alley to get here, but it wasn't of the sketchy variety so don't worry. A few things I've gathered from their Facebook page: -- They take reservations: there is a room towards the back of the store that is reminscent of private Japanese Tatami rooms. The room even has a projector! It's a cute set up if you want to get a group of your friends together and watch a show while sipping on bubble tea! (Of course walk-ins are welcome); -- There are take out and catering options; I've included a few photos that show the interior of this shoppe. Now on to the bubble tea. I live in Los Angeles, and just twenty minutes away, I am privy to some of the best bubble tea I've tasted in America. With that said, I went into Formosan Tea Bar with very low expectations (which I have for all eating establishments here in the UK). I ordered the standard black milk tea (I mean ... if you can't make a STAPLE taste good, I don't trust you'll make anything else taste good!) with just a little bit of boba (which I generally don't order). The boba balls were chewy, and the drink was subtle yet flavorful. I usually like my milk tea strong, but this was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's five-star worthy as the drink was SLIGHTLY watery, but would I come back? Yes I would. Their menu is simple (pictured), and their pricing is appropriate. They only have ONE size, so that's what the price reflects. There is ample stool seating as well as a few table setups. Also, they have a stamp card if you want to get a free drink after you've filled it up! :) This is always a great incentive if a store's product is good, and Formosan Tea Bar at least makes a good black milk tea. If you have any inquiries, email -- info@formosan.co.uk Their hours are: Mon - Sat: 10:00 am - 8:00 pm Sun: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm I'll be back to try out the rest of their menu! I have to fill up this stamp card before I leave for America again in two weeks. ;)

    Green tea with pearls! Yummm

We were sat upstairs near the window and it was nice and quiet there. Everything we ordered was delicious and we enjoyed our time here. Scone with cream and jam. I ordered plain scone. It was delicious. Warm fresh scone served with yummy cream and jam. I also ordered the chocolate cake tea with the scone and it was surprisingly good. Had some chocolate flavor and tasted good with milk. Hubby ordered Mac and cheese and it was served piping hot with a slice of garlic bread. Pretty good too! Kiddo ordered hot chocolate with marshmallows and a chocolate cake. The cake itself was soft and moist and not overly sweet. Went well with the tea and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate seemed standard and she seemed to like it. The place is not overly pricey for a touristy place. Service was also good and friendly.

The service was a little slower but probably because we were seated on the second floor.

I have several food intolerances so when asking about the ingredients in their homemade cakes I got a message back via the waitress that she can't guarantee the cakes were free from what I was intolerant to. As people with food intolerances are always ending up having to go without gorgeous food, I asked if I could have more detail of what was in the cakes so I could make a decision on what it was I could or couldn't eat, just in case there was something I could have. This was very obviously an inconvenience to the waitress and the manager who had baked them. She tried again to say she couldn't guarantee anything because obviously this was the quickest way to solve the issue for herself, but after explaining that I'd like to try to see if there was something I could eat, it was again very plain that I was wasting her time. It was late afternoon and they weren't busy, so I would have appreciated a couple of minutes of her time without the attitude. After finding out there was indeed a piece of cake I could eat, I sat down to enjoy it only to be served it with more attitude by the waitress. If she could have got away with grunting at me I sure she would have! I unfortunately had to ask for a pot of hot water as the tea didn't come with one, and AGAIN got a look saying 'are you bothering me again?!'. Cleanliness was also not great with tea-stained table clothes, dying roses on the table, and also dust on the teapot holding the roses which was next to an open sugar bowl which no doubt had the same amount of dust in it! Also, amazingly, a dog walking around the kitchen area with it's bed behind the serving counter!! (Yes, I am about to inform environmental health dept!!) Lastly, my table was being cleared before I had finished. I did notice however, that the other table still in there didn't have their table touched, so I'm guessing that was a touch of nastiness from the waitress also. I was there looking for a place to take 18-20 friends for my birthday which is coming up soon as we fancied a gorgeous afternoon tea, but we will definitely be going somewhere else after that experience!

There is a pink bicycle parked outside, the establishment is pink, the decor is very elegant--perfect for a photo op I opt to do the afternoon tea with Prosecco added on as well as some scones to go. It was a very fair price per person. Under £80 for the entire experience for 2 people. They also sell other assorted desserts, shakes and cakes All the employees were attentive, they explained in detail what our package came with and they made sure we were happy from start to finish. The staff is very friendly and took the time to explain the drink and pastry options to us. I hope I get a chance to visit again for the full tea service before the end of my trip!

My beady eye spotted the cakes under their glass domes; but my tea had been so substantial I will just have to wait until my next visit to give them a try. I will return because as well as the great food it was value for money. There was friendly service and some nice objects for sale. There were paperbags filled with old fashioned sweeties, lots of handmade crafts and a little glass and wooden case filled with affordable and quirky vintage costume jewellery. Don't worry, I'm already looking into it :) Anyway, after a slightly disappointing lunch and walking about Bibury and a bit into the country, we decided to have a cream tea. Along the main road, you'll find a souvenir shop, The William Morris Inn, and their Tea Room. The door was open and we could see the cakes on the table (well played!) so we walked... actually ducked in. All six tables were occupied with someone paying at the till. We looked around and one of the staff said that they would have a table in about 5 minutes. As we were waiting we were taking in the sights... two fires burning (it wasn't cold at all), various cakes on the table (Chocolate, Coffee & Walnut, Lemon Drizzle, Victoria Sponge, Blackcurrent, Shortbread, Bibury Bark, and a few others), lots of random china, and thank you cards placed throughout the room. They also sell ice cream, in cups, but not sure what flavors. After they cleaned the table, we headed to the table in the corner, next to the fire and to a display cabinet with lots of breakable teapots! As we were looking at the menu, we noticed a couple of things... 1) there were 5 staff and 6 tables, 2) the guy who was handling money was also handling the utensils and cups... but not by the handles, and 3) it seemed quite unorganized. You would think that with 5 staff to 6 tables, it would be very organized and smooth, but it wasn't. It wasn't the worst I have seen, but it could have been running a bit smoother. The other thing I noticed was that maybe they could have made better use of the space. I kind of think that 6 4-seat tables limits business... for example the man that came in to have lunch by himself, while the group of four that came left after being told the wait might be about 20-30 minutes. Maybe a combination of different table sizes might help, but as I was telling this to Mr. Snarky he mentioned that maybe the 6 tables is all they can handle. Fair point. One of the staff came around and took our order: two scones with jam and clotted cream, one tea (English Breakfast), and one hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream. On the tables they have laminated pictures of Bibury with recipes from the area on the back. They do sell them, but not sure for how much. Great idea as I did want some of the recipes, however, it occurred to me that some people might just write the recipes down or take pictures with their phones. I did no such thing, but I thought about it. I was taking another look at the table of cakes, when I saw the staff making Mr. Snarky's hot chocolate. A tin was opened and a scoop of hot chocolate mix was dropped into a tartan cup. I was a bit worried that Mr. Snarky's snarkiness level would hit another high after lunch earlier. Tea and hot chocolate arrived at the table. I let my tea steep a bit further, but Mr. Snarky went in for the first sip. He described it as warm water with a hint of chocolate... and by the looks of it, it was just a very, very light brown colour. If you're going to use a pre-made chocolate powder, at least use enough to make it worth drinking. The scones were hot when they came out, which was a nice touch and also made it a bit easier to warm up the clotted cream for easier spreading. That part was good, not my favourite cream tea, but still good. I did notice the large bowls of Minestrone Soup and plates of a large salad with lots of different veg that looked quite nice. So it is another lunch option, much more affordable than The Swan down the road. I think they could do with a few improvements, but then again as the only tea room in Bibury, they can afford not to.

We sat down and our kids were excited and were a little loud. As parents we were trying to get them to keep quiet. However, just literally 2- 3 mins into our visit there, one of the owners told me "Can you get your kids to be quiet? We have other people in the place". I found it rude and explained to him that we are trying and it's not that easy to negotiate with young kids. Also, told him that if they are unable to tolerate it they should have a clear "No young children" policy. For that the reply I got from was beyond shocking "Other people have control over their kids and you guys don't have!" Seriously, who are these people to offer free parenting advice to customers? Our kids were just talking loud and NOT throwing a tantrum or causing any damage. We felt un-welcomed and decided to leave. We said "We are leaving. This is disappointing service and they need to work on that" and for that we got a "Off you go.. off you go... please leave now"!! Shocking and unbelievable bad. If you have young children don't waste your time going here. They have zero sense of customer service. I would highly recommend they have a no young children policy upfront to save parents the pain of listening to their parental advice. Most parents would respect that if restaurants have such policies.
