A great place to bring a family. I enjoy the great salad bar, my husband loves the Mongolian BBQ, and our sons love the variety- they try different things each time. We all love a sweet to end the meal! The only downside is they became a Pepsi-Cola customer we prefer Coke products but, their water is GREAT! read more

The best buffet in whole USA the is more attractive is they are making everything live infront of us the amazing dish is they are frying on a pan what all the meat we selected, subs, sandwiches, pizza, cookies, pastries, salads, fruits, dessert all these make me to spend an hour to stay, probably I'll come back to rock to spend more linger during my friends graduation. Eagerly waiting for my friends grad to be in rock for minimum 3-4hrs. Missing you lot my dear rock. One last thing to say the hospitality is amazing. Best college cafeteria food I've ever had (in my long and informed history and familiarity with college-cafeteria food)! Lots of stations to chose from. Comfort zone, International Foods zone, pasta zone, soup bar, salad bar, fruit bar, pizza bar, dessert and ice-cream bar, even a Mongolian BBQ area! This Cafe is hooked up! You'd never get bored eating here everyday because of the vast variety. Also quality ingredients are not compromised by volume/quantity of visitors do the food is not only plentiful but it tastes great too. Every week the Ferris State University programming board brings out musicians to entertain the masses. The price for this excellent food fest: $7!!!!! $7!!!!!!!! $7!!!!!!!!!!!! That's right, not a typo: $7! And furthermore, it is not just open to college students, anyone from the community can come and pay...you guessed it...$7 to eat here. I like this because it forces the Ferris students to interact with the Big Rapids community. Oftentimes in college it's easy to alienate from the world around you and just live in a college bubble while you are pursuing a degree. And so to me having a delicious restaurant that is affordable and that inadvertently brings college students together with community members gets two thumbs up! read more

We visited the Rock this past weekend and had a good meal for a very good price. For $10 they have a good variety of food and select your own grill choices they will prepare for you. Perhaps the only shortcoming is in the dessert selection. These are all Gordon's type and while not bad they didn't live up to the rest of the good presented. Definitely will be back! read more

Being a student at Ferris I find myself here a lot. While there is variety and the Mongolian is decent at times, if they clean it well. After some time the food begins to taste all the same, like dirty grill, or burned. The main staff force are students and their work is below par. Manning the grills and other cooking surfaces, consistency is an issue. We pay to go here so a lot of times students find themselves complaining about being pushed aside while townies or non students take over. read more

Not only is the The Rock a great place for Ferris students to eat- it's a great place for the public to eat too! Yes, it's open to the general public for all meals. You do have to check the website for their hours especially when during breaks, but it's worth it. It's all you can eat- but not a buffet. It's also SO not the school food you had when you were in college. There is a mongolian grill where you pick your own meats, veggies and sauces and watch them make grill it in front of you, there is a comfort food station, a pasta station, a pizza station, and breakfast station, burgers, a deli, a large salad bar and deserts available. At many of the stations they make the food right in front of you. There is also a waffle station. Everything thing I have ever eaten there has been fantastic. There are always local people of all ages eating- not just students and so I never feel out of place there even though I have been out of college for years. Make sure you have some quarters though, the parking lot is metered and they do ticket! read more

Since my friend is living on campus, we decided to have lunch on my last day in town at The Rock Cafe on campus. We went at 1pm, and it was PACKED. The creamy vegetable soup & the pizza were delicious. With it being as crowded as it was, I really didn't get to try all that much, so can't really say anything about the Mongolian Grill, etc. Would like to go back again, perhaps at 2pm, since that's what time we were done eating, and it was nearly deserted. read more

Ferris State student cafeteria is open to the public as well. After a multimillion dollar renovation, the place is really a nice place to eat. Yes you have to deal with the students, but that's not even an issue. The Mongolian grill is good. The pizza's are fantastic and usually so is the daily special. read more

I'm visiting FSU from our of town. It was great to be able to get good food on campus, and awesomely unexpected that there were so many tasty options for a great price. I had stir fry and roast turkey/stuffing. Well done, Ferris! read more

It's nice...you pay one fee and can get whatever. It's nice if you get something and then it turns out you don't like it. I'd usually go with pizza but they have a good build your own stir fry that's pretty good. read more

This is located at Ferris State and open to the public. I had no idea that the public could eat there until a friend told me. I went with my family and was totally impressed! I'm not usually a big buffet fan, but this was nice. I got a made to order stir fry. They had tofu so I was happy to have vegetarian options. You pick all your toppings and sauce and they make it there. It was delicious! I also got a big salad that was good and fresh. My kids had some things from the salad bar and also chicken tenders, fries and pizza. We all had some soft serve ice cream and cookies for dessert. The price was great too. $10 and something each for adults. I'm not sure how much the kids were, but our bill for 2 adults and 2 kids was only $28! My kids like to eat, so we definitely got our money's worth. We went in July, so I'm sure it's more crowded when school is in session, but it wasn't very crowded when we were there. For the average person, or occasional visitor, The Rock is fine. As long as you don't have to deal with any of the employees, of course. But for me, saying I hate the place is an understatement. They call themselves "vegetarian friendly" but being a vegetarian myself I can tell you that they are NOT. As if having very small vegetarian selection isn't enough, they don't bother to make the signs that specify the food you are about to eat correctly. For example, one day I ordered a pizza omelet. On the sign it said that the omelet had mozzarella cheese inside & was topped with pizza sauce. It failed to mention that it also included pepperoni, but luckily it was right on top so I didn't accidentally eat it. Was a waste of an omelet, though. Another time I got a grilled cheese at woody's grill & for some reason it had a big slice of ham in it, also wasn't listed on the sign. Now today, I made a veggie plate at the mongo grill & got a "veggie" egg roll on the side. What I didn't realize before taking a nice size bite into this egg roll that they had switched around the pork & veggie egg rolls. No, it was not a mistake on my part either, my boyfriend was with me & said he had seen me take an egg roll from the tray labeled veggie egg rolls. Obviously, most of that is not going to affect the average meat eater, but I will say that it is a pain to even step foot in the place. During lunchtime it is completely packed, sometimes when I go for dinner also. A few times I've literally had to just stand there holding my plate of food to wait for someone to leave. It's awful. Also, mind you this place is open to the public, not just Ferris students, which seems a little ridiculous when we only have 2 cafeterias on campus. The food may be decent for you omnivores, but try eating there 3 times a day. You are seriously sick of everything after a couple weeks. I also worked at The Rock for a short time & they treat their employees terribly. If you decide to look for work in the Big Rapids area anytime soon, you should definitely make The Rock your last resort. There is a reason why they have a shortage of workers. read more

I whole heartily love the rock. There is only one thing I have to review and that is, if you are not a student avoid the busy hours. Tuesday and Thursday from 11-12 is a campus wide break and 6pm any night is usually a big dinner rush. It is extremely hard to find a table during these hours and I suggest you leave them to the students. read more
