Everything was great. It had been a while since we had eaten here for breakfast, so I thought we'd try it again. They had an updated menu which was nice and we had the best server, Jamie, who was respectful, diligent and accurate in her orders. Such a sweet old fashioned place in Big Rapids! I had the basic breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast and bacon and potato patties. Hubby had the crustless veggie quiche! This is such a cute cozy little place. Right when we walked in we were greeted with a smile from what turned out to be our server and a joke from another server. we had the pleasure of having Jaimie be our server and she was AMAZING! she is just the sweetest thing. This restaurant is like home away from home. It's a house turned into a restaurant, with tables in several different rooms of the house, which gives it more of an intimate feel. The menu has a fantastic selection of every favorite you can think of, but not so many options that you get overwhelmed. I went with #4 eggs, potatoes, meat, and toast. I ordered over easy eggs and bacon which were cooked to perfection! I chose basic white toast because I wanted to try their homemade raspberry jam - it was amazing! Food: I got the toast, egg, meat, potato combo. 4 pieces of toast, 2 eggs your way, massive portion of potatoes, which I upgraded to loaded (minus cheese). The bacon was crispier and drier than I prefer (probably healthier, but where's the fun in that?). Service: Seated quickly. Friendly service. Very cute place, had fantastic weather to sit outside. As with many small places, they are doing outside only for dine in, until such time as more restrictions lift. The staff was very friendly. A few "back and forths" on my order as wait staff switched up, but the "shotgun" was delivered quickly. My only complaint is the ho hum coffee, made even more ho hum in a Styrofoam cup. This was my first time visiting Big Rapids. I start a job there starting June. I wanted to get a feel for the restaurant scene as I am a huge foodie. I went past all the fast food fare and this cute pancake house caught my eye. I hoped it was open due to the current situation. I went through my phone to check on the phone number and reviews. Promptly a old lady in a apron came up to my car clad in a colorful face mask and said in a bright voice how are you what can I get ya. I needed a second to decide and with another smile she said take your time. I called in a order for white and blue waffles that was modified. No meat and extra veg on the scrambled eggs. I went around to the memorial park across the eatery where I met another old lady that was so freindly! We talked about how she moved to a bunch of places and her life now. She told me about nice things to do in the area and "How a nice young man could find pretty girls in the park " My order came in promtly, and I went to Meadowbrook park to enjoy a meal. The meal came with a sanitized napkin upon request. And neatly organized into black boxes. Belgium waffle was excellent. Had both strawberry and blueberry compote and a whipped creme that felt home-made. Eggs were fresh and the potatoes I ordered were amazing as well. Everything has a homecooked quality to it. I enjoyed my meal on the river. Would love to come back for there pasties which I hear are homemade. We were greeted right away with a choice of seating. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable and helped in deciding what to eat. She was very engaging in our conversation and gave us insight about the surrounding areas. Another server joined our conversation and it was just delightful. Loved the decor of the restaurant too. It was fun seeing the landscapes of Grindelwald on the tv and the video of the fire in the fireplace was funny. Our food was just wonderful too. So yummy and packed our tummies for our trip home. The homemade jam was so delicious and the veggie quiche was delectable. My daughter ate every crumb of her berry waffles and my son giggle at his Micky mouse pancakes but then devoured them. We're so glad we found this local restaurant on Yelp . We're heading to Mackinaw and stopped in for breakfast. All 4 of us loved everything on our plates! We had chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, mickey mouse pancake, and the best bacon ever. Everything was seasoned well, and eggs cooked perfectly. Last but not least, the homemade jelly! We all agreed that we would drive the 1 1/2 hours anytime to have breakfast here again. Service was excellent from Destiny, and we didn't have to wait for anything. read more

Wow, all the 5 star reviews are spot-on. We chose this place due to the high ratings and low prices. There were 7 of us including a few children. We were seated within 15 minutes at noon on a Saturday, which was somewhat of a surprise itself. My pastie was as good as advertised, and the rest of the family enjoyed their choices as well. Speaking of choices, there are many exceptional sounding dishes I'd like to return and try out. The servers were friendly and helpful, and I might ad doing VERY well checking and re checking on as busy as they were. Finally, in 2023 when most restaurants are pricing us out of eating away from home this place is surprisingly... umm... cheap! Looking forward to our next visit! read more

I'm not certain as to how many reviews have been made by people they know or if this place has changed hands recently but from start to finish it was over 2 hours long for us to get a little breakfast for 4 people. We were heading north when it became obvious that one of us was getting Hangry (not me). Fortunately for us we were by Big Rapids and the Yelp app & reviews led us here. We usually don't stray too far off our intended route but the reviews were compelling and I'm happy to say they lived up to our expectations. Alamode is a charming, quaint little diner that I imagine gets pretty packed at peak times. The waitresses were so nice and friendly we felt quite at home. We each ordered eggs, toast, meat, potatoes and my husband sprang for the pancake as well. Everything came out quickly and was delicious! So much food! As we were checking out I saw the pies in the cooler, all homemade, all delicious looking. I so wish I had more room for pie. Curbside breakfast pickup on a lazy Sunday morning. Oh my! Food here left us full and speechless. Sooo good! We were on our way to Traverse City Labor Day weekend and stopped over in Big Rapids knowing absolutely nothing about the area. Can I say, absolutely lovely little town! Beautiful homes, clean streets, very cool university campus and delicious food!! We found Alamode on Yelp and website information gave clear instructions for calling in orders and ordering online. Every picture of every dish looked yummy and every description sounded scrumdiddlyumptious! We went with a Breakfast Quesadilla and the Shotgun (they had me at "its loaded!") Loaded meant three cheeses: mozzarella, cheddar and provolone atop thinly sliced, perfectly fried potatoes, ham and peppers. We took our haul to nearby Swede Hill Park where we spread out in the car and ate while watching the river and rapids below. Food was perfect! Epic impromtu stopover and experience! While staying at my parents house near Trufant, Mi we had to run up to Big Rapids to go to Menard's (GR's Menard's was closer, but we had free time and thought, why not!) I YELPED to find a good breakfast spot in town (even though my husband is a FSU grad, it's been a while). While scrolling through our options, I came across A La Mode and suggested it based on stars and reviews.. he said no initially, but couldn't give me a good reason. Having never gone to A La Mode while in college, I ignored him. THANK GOD I DID. This place only has 10 tables in it. TEN! So small! Super cozy.. so a tight fitting ten tables. Most tables fit 2-4 while one fit 6? Dont bring a crowd. We were greeted right away and drink orders taken (as well as a side of scrambled eggs for our tiny human). The menu isn't HUGE but it has everything you need! From reviews, I knew the portions were huge, so i tried to keep that in mind. The side of egg came out quickly and I seriously almost stole my kids breakfast. These were THE best scrambled eggs I have ever had at a restaurant.. you could literally taste the butter they used the cook them.. like sinful amounts of butter. I got the Homemade Quiche (non vegetarian one) with a side of biscuits and gravy. Hubby got #4? and we split a side of loaded hash browns with everything. Food came out quick and HOT. And true to other reviews.. helpings were HUGE. Like, split a meal between two people and still have leftovers. Quiche was a huge slice topped with sliced meat and cheese- SO GOOD. Thick, dense with veggies and a flaky crust. The gravy on the biscuits was delicious, no overly salty. Biscuits were thin and fluffy.. perfect addition- didn't over take the meal or plate. Loaded Hashbrowns- do yourself a favor and order an order for the table to split and then an order to go. SO GOOD. Like, best hashbrowns I have ever had. These things were so loaded with garlic, butter, cheese, green peppers, and onions... they were heaven. Again, the amount of butter was sinful! Hubby's #4 was delicious looking and he said it was awesome. He cleaned his plate.. i'm not sure how. It was a HUGE helping of food. We did get two pasties to go for my Mom & Aunt.. they were excited! They were pretty big and were about 8.99. Came frozen with a cup of gravy fresh off the line. They were nice enough to write up heating instructions, too. Ambiance: adorable and homey Service: really good! Food: AMAZING Price: GOOD! All in all, we will be back! I got this with no meat, upgraded to loaded potatoes, and upgraded my pancake to apple cinnamon! Best apple cinnamon pancakes bar none!! Everything was SO good!!
