This place is tragically hilarious. The food is hit and miss but mostly miss. The beer is ok. The wait service misses more things than they bring out. The atmosphere is good especially on the bar side. That said the wait staff brought me stuff I didn't order, didn't bring stuff out that I DID order, asked my friend with two kids if he would pay for the kids or if they were each paying their own way and forgot all condiments. Good food and brews. Usually busy. Service is average. Currently they are "having issues" getting orders from Door Dash. Door Dash cancelled my order after an hour because the restaurant never got my order. I called Crankers and talked to, I think he said his name was Aaron (the manager). He said that they have been having trouble getting orders from door dash. I asked him why he still had his restaurant on Door Dash then if he is going to make people wait an hour just to not even get their food. I will not be ordering here for a while again. Since the pandemic hit a lot of restaurants have stepped up their game with Door Dash and alike to still have bus ones. I guess Crankers in Big Rapids has yet to figure it out. read more

From a person who lives in Big Rapids because I attend Ferris State University, Crankers was the BEST place because it was open 24/7 and we could go there after the bar. Yet a few years ago they started closing early and were not open in the night anymore. Super bummer. The food is always very good here but if you go there in the morning it takes forever to get your food, so I usually just go somewhere else for breakfast. Great service and even better food! I'm from the metro Detroit area and worked at a Coney Island for several years and I have to say.. their coney dogs and chili cheese fries are even BETTER here! While I was there I was watching the bartender pull all the glasses and decorations off the bar, scrubbing everything down and running the glassware through the dishwasher.. love to see that! This place is one-of-a-kind. Cranker's is a staple of Big Rapids' unique culture and definitely worth a visit if you're ever on State St. at 2:30 on a Friday morning after trying to start your car with your house key and then narrowly avoiding a DUI. I've had mixed experiences here, and i'll gladly share a few. One night, my gf and I sat at the bar and noticed someone ordering cereal, which didn't seem weird until we saw that he poured the milk into the bowl first, then put the cereal in. A kid from my high school used to do that and now he's in prison. Always trust your instincts. Another time I arrived a little drunk and threw some ice at the waitress to get her attention. She got mad, and I tried to ease the tension by saying, "a little ice never hurt anyone", and she snapped back by saying "tell that to the Titanic". Funny, but a little disrespectful to the people who actually died on the world's largest symbol of man's mortality and vulnerability. Oh, and the second time I came here someone broke into my car and connected my horn to the left blinker. It was actually very creative and I'm not even mad. Don't listen to the other half cocked reviews about ordering the "Opa". It's not called Opa you fucking idiots, the cheese you ordered that gave you third degree burns is called Saganaki. Opa is a Greek word used mostly by Latino girls when they're making love and their partner is better than average in bed and not a CIA operative in Ukraine trying to incite a civil war. read more

The good: service was solid; the manager allowed us to have beers on the "family" side of the restaurant due to my wife's wheelchair-bound aunt's accessibility issues. Speaking of which, the beer we had, a coconut porter, was delightful. Didn't get to try any of their other brews, since I liked that one enough to drink it exclusively. The bad: the food was atrocious. Well, some more than others, but the bad was really bad, and the good not all that good. The most palatable was the fish and chips. Badly overbattered, but edible. The fries were just ok. The truly horrendous was what my wife ordered: hot turkey sandwich. Frozen turkey, now a dry layer of cardboard. Frozen corn, lifeless and boring. Canned gravy! Ick! Tastes like a can. The mashed potatoes might've actually been made in house, but they were still super-bland. At the end was a pointless cocunut cream pie, topped with canned whipped cream. Ugh... My wife and I both hate to send food back. It'd really have to be inedible or hair-covered or something. This was right on the cusp. Lucky for her, I bit the bullet and traded my fish and chips for her crap turkey sandwich. Tis the husband's sworn duty to eat his wife's [redacted]. Anyways, I am not a religious watcher of Gordon Ramsay's shows, but I've seen enough to recognize immediately in Cranker's one of the fairly usual problems he encounters: old people. I could give this place 5 stars based solely on the fact that it's the only place in Big Rapids with 24-hour sit-down service. However, there's much more to Cranker's than that. Cranker's has an extensive menu and breakfast all day, which means it's perfect for breakfast-lovers as well as late-night drunks and early-morning hangovers. There's certainly nothing fancy about the food but it's always good and it comes out FAST. The prices are also more than reasonable, perfect for a college student's budget. And don't forget to order the saganaki - the staff's tradition of yelling "OPA!" as they light it on fire is cute and it's always a rousing chorus of drunk voices across the restaurant if you go after midnight. But really, let's talk about the real reason this place deserves five stars - the waitstaff. These women work long shifts at all hours. They're fast, they're clean, and they're always polite. Above all, they put up with the worst of the worst in Big Rapids and still manage to deliver flawless, smiling service. I've witnessed a few altercations between wasted college students and waitstaff, and the waitstaff manages to calm things down and keep the customers coming back every time. Hats off to you, ladies! If I could rate this hole with no stars I would. Ordered a beef and bean wet burrito, 45 min. later I get a chicken burrito. So I send it back for the correct one, 20 min. goes by. Then the second one comes out, geuss what its a nother F*@!*ing chicken burrito. Now I'm a little IRRITATED, the waitress says ( I can take it back again ) !!! NO, I will eat the @*% thing. There is no better place to go after a night of drinking at Shooters than Crankers. It is walking distance, open 24 hours and they always serve breakfast. I have never been disappointed by a 2AM trip to Crankers. I am however always sad when I for some reason don't go. You can get eggs, toast and hash browns for $4. If you are really smart (and drunk) you will get an Opa too (Cheese plate that they set on fire a la traditional Greek restaurants.) and some chili cheese fries. The wait staff is awesome and very tolerant. Usually everyone is drunk at 2AM and no one at the table can manage to focus enough to order their drink let alone keep all their food on their plate. I have never seen any of them go off on a customer and honestly I wouldn't blame them if they did. I have never even seen them kick someone out for being too drunk. The food was not good.. my chicken gyro was bland and dry, my fries were cold and over done, and the soup was just meh. My husband's food was worse, and my daughter, the mashed potatoes were grey and wallpaper paste flavored. I think next time we visit her, we'll stick to the Rock at FSU. Stopped at the Cony Island on the way up north for lunch. I had a Skillet Breakfast that was perfect in every way. My partner had lunch and had absolutely no complaints. The price was reasonable and the service fast and efficient. Good Food, Fast and a the right price. What more can you ask for. While there we heard about an Octobeer Feast Party going on at The Brewery next Door on Saturday. After living in Detroit for decades, I know what a good Coney Island is. This is decent, but compared to Kirby's or National Coney Island, it's only about 75% as good. The food isn't quite as good, but it's decent and the menu is huge. If a National or Kirby opened a Coney Island in west Michigan, it would be very popular very quickly because they have huge menus, solid food and have lightening fast service, which is ideal for working people grabbing a lunch without taking an eternity. read more

The food here is good. Little pricey on some items and the service is a bit slow when the waitresses stop and chat with the regulars. I guess I need to become a regular. LOL. Overall, this seems like a decent place. Diner-y up front and brew pub in the back. Decent menu, open 24-hours, friendly staff. All good things. The fish and chips were pretty tasty. The brew pub aspect, which is new, needs a little work, though. The beer itself was acceptable. Out of the eight I tried, four were drinkable but not very good, four were good representations of the style they were going for (and one of those, the coconut stout, was quite interesting). So, not bad for a start up brewery. But the staff needs to be better educated on the beer, and the sign listing the beers on tap should be more visible and more informative. Great, you have "Crankenstein" -- what does that mean? If the sign doesn't tell me and the waitress can't adequately describe it then what's a customer supposed to do? All-in-all, a decent place with real potential. We'll see what my next visit brings. read more

this micro brewery is actually really good. They do run out of things however almost everything is made in kitchen! That "horrible smell" people are posting about is the smell the hops give off when they're getting brewed. Beers rotate often to ensure everyone finds something they like. usually 15+ brews on tap and lines get cleaned every week. The wait can be long being that there are 300+ seats in the restaurant! As for the staff everyone is very friendly and tries to make consumers feel welcomed. Food pricing is generous to say the least, Servings are large and typically more then enough! read more

The outside experience was inviting but a little cluttered with cigarettes. When I arrived the host was busy but I was seated promptly by a very friendly waitress. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and very prompt with refills. The staff is all dressed to fit the style of a country diner. I stepped outside to make a call and three minutes later I had hot food sitting in front of me. The food was excellent and very cheap, and it wasn't thrown at a plate either. They have a well diverse menu and the fact that they are open 24 hours a day makes this place heavenly in a college town. Decided to order a take out meal for my family as we were heading home last week. I ordered 2 jyros for my wife and kids and a burger. The check out lady demanded that she be able to bring the order to our car when it came up in 10 minutes. I finally decided to go in after 27 minutes to find our food just sitting there. I was already late so I just left. They messed up both jyros and gave us all cold fries. It was a very disappointing lunch. I would pass on this place for carryout.
