My husband and I have been here a few times together and every time has been a very nice experience. For one of the only nicer restaurants around the area, it hits the spot. 876 Baldwin. I got the Baldwin burger it was delightful although the wait was quite a while it was very well worth it just a bit small. We were the only ones in the restaurant, I'm not sure what went so wrong. Something they could've done better was improve their menu there was very little you could've ordered. The bathrooms were very nice stocked with toilet paper and other appliances, there were some weird pictures of women in their bathing suits in the water. Back to the Baldwin burger it was about the size of a kids menu item not very filling and an outrageous price about $19. I wish they would've included the amount of calories, protein, sugar, etc. The waiter we got (did not get her name, she had dark hair) was very good, she had a very gentle voice, and she met our needs immediately, definitely deserves a raise. Food was really good. Portions good size. Wine was good and pours were generous. Two negatives. First, service was friendly, but really poor. We had to continually ask for almost everything and wait for long periods. However, they seemed to be short-staffed, so maybe that was the issue. Also, I did not like having a 3.25% credit card fee built into my bill even before I paid. Several reviews online indicated that there is an automatic 20% gratutity added. That was not true. Apparently, it is only added for parties of 7 or more. Very good place. I will bring cash next time. read more

I would have taken a picture but I devoured the entire dish. I order the ropa vieja, and wasn't sure if the dish was going to meet the typical expectations of the others I've had. I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation and their version. Fabulously prepared! I have seen it where people try to put "spins" on a traditional dish, but 876 has made something special. Everything that they made was outstanding, from the clams to their take on the ropas viejas! The ambiance is Michigan made elegant. The art on the wall was very beautiful. Took a chance and it was worth it. Pasta, yes! Homemade flavors, well seasoned meatballs, and a sauce that is a sauce. Great service made for a good experience and worth a trip back. Keep it up folks!! Only suggestion I would give is a light roast on your garlic in the aioli. A masterful chef delivers a culinary delight in Baldwin. Where is Baldwin you might ask? Well it's west of Lake Michigan and east of Detroit. Got it? Why might you be here? No idea. But this chef has it going on. Super cute place. We all enjoyed our food--tagliatelle--all pasta made fresh, flat iron steak, halibut all solid. Cocktails great. Wine tasty. It's Bald for the Win. Oh, and save room for dessert next door at John's ice cream place. All home made. Yum. Side note. You go through Trumptown to get there. Super interesting farm that has all big signs with all kinds of love for 45. Well, at least the ones that others haven't vandalized...... read more

I wish there were more stars to give because 876 Baldwin is so fantastic. The food, atmosphere, and service create a dining experience that I cannot wait to repeat. Chef Forgie and his team really took care of me when I stopped in with my father for an early dinner. My recommendations include: There's always time for a cocktail. So take a look at this spot's cocktail menu. I went with their rendition of an old fashioned and savored every drop. Perfectly balance and beautifully displayed in a decorative rocks glass. Cheers! Go for the greens. The salads here are fresh, colorful, and should not be missed. My favorite was the Michigan salad that represents its namesake admirably. Pizzas all around! I would recommend a pizza for the table to share as an appetizer because it is sure to be a crowd pleaser. I can vouch for the seasonal option, the fall harvest, but you can't go wrong with the other options either. You deserve dessert. May I suggest the Pot de Creme? This dish is classic, elegant, and I would say the little black dress of desserts (a must have). I enjoyed the European influences and Michigan flare that make 876 unique and oh so charming. My husband and I were finally able to drive up to 876 for his birthday. We came in shortly after opening and ordered an Old Fashioned and a Green Cottage/Ginger Rogers--both delicious. For appetizer, we shared the baked brie with berries--also delicious and not too much. I ordered a Margherita pizza and my husband ordered the NY Strip, which he said was phenomenal. Very tender. Salad was great (pear with greens). Dessert good, too. I forgot to mention--heated toilet seat in the ladies room.....that's a luxe touch. :) read more

Food was tasty. Service was and ambiance were great. One of the few casual upscale restaurants in the area.

We were excited to try this place. Having looked at the menu, we knew that it was pricy, but were hoping for an upscale experience. Although there were some interesting pictures and a large sculptural mural, We found it a disappointment. We were seated at a Formica table close to the doorway which was drafty. The price for two with two drinks each was over $90. Our waitress was very pleasant but she delivered one entree that was not as ordered and one of our drinks sat for almost 10 minutes before it was delivered and everyone had almost already finished eating. As more guests arrived, it became quite noisy with bare tables and an old hard floor. The food was good but not exceptional. Just too expensive for the atmosphere! read more

First time here. Upscale compared to the typical "northern Michigan" fare. Fantastic atmosphere and service.

The ambiance and decor was great. I enjoyed the wall art and live edge table in the center of the restaurant. The food looked great and tasted good but was more expensive than it should have been. Our group waited over an hour in a 1/2 full restaurant for dinner to arrive and then after the wait one of the burgers was bloody raw and had to be recooked. It could have been 'just a bad night' but the poor service and then automatic 20% tip that was added to the bill are key factors in whether I would eat here again. read more

We have a cabin near Baldwin and are always pleased to see a new restaurant open in the area. We enjoyed our first outing to 876 Baldwin this week for dinner. The food was delicious, the atmosphere really inviting, and the service wonderful. Our only concern is that it seems a bit pricey for the area and even for the value. For example, our starter of 9 stalks of asparagus with a poached egg and some shaved parmesan was $18. It feels like that was more of a $9-$10 appetizer to us. Considering the area, we worry that the overall value for the prices may not be sustainable but we hope so. Overall, it's a nice new addition. read more

it was a birthday celebration. The server was great and talked us in to desert to go. Everything was great until we ordered a 2nd drink and management came over to ask who was driving as I just had foot surgery so management felt they needed to intervene. I declined the drink and we left and the food for the price was not that good. Will never be back and will just get a burger at the local pub. Wow what a way to end an up north experience. This one is a hidden gem!! We are on the road trip, passed by Baldwin, and did not expect anything we could grab other than chips and hotdogs. The restaurant is so nice and clean, modern. The best of all, the food is top notch, very comfortable and healthy food. We are from San Francisco, this restaurant could be on top of yelp even in there. One of the best kept secrets. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time.. The food was excellent, the staff equally so. I highly recommend. This is a diamond in the food coal mine of Baldwin. My wife had the parchment wrapped Walleye while I had the New York Strip. Both were generously portioned. The steak was on the same level as a Ruth's Chris or a Morton's Steakhouse. The walleye was perfectly seasoned and delicate. For dessert I had the owner's family recipe Tiramisu. The over used OMG doesn't do it justice. Light as a cloud on a summers day. My wife had the seasonal crumble. It was soooo very berry delicious....and served with a creamy (was it from the Jones Creamery down the street) large scoop of Vanilla Ice cream. There is no doubt my wife and I will be returning many many times. What a welcome surprise . read more

We ate here on Saturday night before Valentine's Day. They had a special menu for the occasion. Our experience was high class! The food was absolutely delicious! The chef/manager made sure our food was exactly right, even made to my Crohn's diet needs. The portions were perfect! The service was impeccable. Everyone was friendly and professional. So disappointed in last nights meal and service was not good either. We had stopped by 876 last fall and had a wonderful meal and service was great. We couldn't wait to go again, this time we invited two other couples and was so looking forward to another wonderful meal and good conversation. But it started out with bad service and never got better. The food was so disappointing the duck was over cooked, walleye unseasoned, salads were soggy, and pizza was really bad. Never a fan of writing bad reviews but believe owners should know they have issues and hopefully they can fix them. read more

Visited the new restaurant 876 yesterday. The menu looks great, drink menu the same. I don't mind spending $14 for a cocktail, but the bartender did not fill the glass. The waitress should not be front of the house, she did not inform us that a 20% gratuity would be auto added for our party size. While I usually tip 18-20%, there is no way she would have received that amount for her service. Will not be back and will not recommend. Too bad, was looking forward to it. read more

We are foodies vacationing from Scottsdale Az. Saw this restaurant in Baldwin near the infamous Pere Marquette river. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had this summer. Ordered the Walleye served in parchment paper and it was exceptional. My wife had the chicken and said it was the best she's had in years. Wine list was very nice and chef can select appropriate pairings. Do not miss the key lime pie...a nod to the owners love of the keys. A great stop on your way up north! read more
