I was in town and had to try a burger after watching a few reviews that have come up in my feed. I ordered the Blue cheese burger and got it with mushrooms and the Frank's hot ranch on the side. Delicious. Like a four napkin burger haha. It isn't overly large, although a 12 ounce option is available. It's just bar grilled goodness with shredded lettuce and packed with flavor. The inside reminds me of The Bird in Mt. Pleasant. The waitress was great, refilled drinks without asking and it was busy but not packed around 3 on a weekday. I was in town recently for a funeral and wanted to grab some lunch before heading back to Grand Rapids. Schuberg's was open so I grabbed a booth. The smell of popcorn was so enticing, I had to get myself a basket. My server was really polite and attentive. She showed me the lunch special and the daily feature and let me browse the huge menu. Schuberg's is known for burgers, and they have an entire page of them! I went with the egg-cellent "Schu" with fried egg, cheddar, bacon, lettuce, mayo, and tomato. Burgers come with chips, or you can upgrade to coleslaw, pub fries, sweet potato fries, tots, fried garlic mushrooms, side salad, or onion rings. I went with the pub fries. They have a full bar, but since it was 11 am I stuck with Diet Coke (from a can, but free refills). I wasn't sure if I was allowed to grab popcorn myself but after I saw another guest getting some, I went and got a basket. It was freshly popped and perfectly salty. I love a good dive bar with free popcorn! My food came out quickly and looked really good. The burger was juicy, not overcooked, and seasoned well. It was definitely a bit greasy, but sometimes you just want a greasy burger. I loved the fries - they were crispy and delicious. I even noticed that the lettuce was super crisp. I would definitely come back to Schuberg's in the future for more food - the menu is quite large so even if you don't get a burger, there are plenty of options! read more

Nostalgia for my college years. Place looks exactly the same as it did in 2000. I am sure some things have changed, but all in all still the same. Food-since I'm older and can't eat whatever I want anymore I went for a salad. The dressing had changed in the last 24 years but that's ok. I wish I had a burger however my salad was top of the game. Lettuce/mushrooms/egg/tomato/cucumber/home made croutons. I'm sure I'm forgetting something's. Regardless the memories in this place along with great food make this a place worth visiting. read more

I went to Schuberg's with my friends, A place where tasty food never ends. I had a burger, "The Irishman" its name, With corned beef and Swiss, it earned its fame. Tater tots on the side, crispy and hot, Water with lemon, a refreshing spot. The pretzel bun was a delightful touch, But corned beef made it a bit much. Lettuce and tomato, oh what a mess, Next time without, I must confess. A burger so big, I could hardly eat, But one of the best at Schuberg's to meet! Ok to start off, the location is amazing smack downtown in historic big rapids. When you walk in there is a rustic aura of prohibition era Americana. It feels like a homely humble spot with a simple slogan of "Burgers: it's what we do" that it certainly lives up to. I had the Big Easy schu, and it was an amazing burger for 11$. A frequent diner here, I tried for first-time the hot beef and swiis cheese, instead of the standard cheddar, on Brioche roll, upgraded +$3.50 from potato chips to deep fried garlic mushrooms, draft Alaskan Amber. Next time I will change the brioche roll for a toasted sub roll. The sandwich roast beef was thinly sliced, stacked high, and tasty. Amazing food. One of the best burgers i have had in a long time. Service is great, they have kind staff and have three amazing chefs that run the kitchen. The price is good, especially considering how much you get. They charge extra for fries, otherwise they give you chips instead. Went to Schuberg's for lunch while I was in the area for work. What a fun place. It was not my first time going and it will not be my last. This restaurant has been around since the 1933! They are known for their burgers which you can watch being cooked for you in the open bar kitchen. Today I had a cup of their famous chili which is just like grandma makes it not spicy and full of flavor. I also ordered a basket of cheese curds, which were great to. It definitely is a local hang out and a fun place to have lunch or dinner. read more

Schuberg's was an amazing experience. I visited there with my daughter during Ferris State University move in day. The bar & grill were understandably busy and we took seats at the bar. We were able to see how they prepared their nearly infinite variety of burgers, sandwiches, and more. We each ordered specialty burgers with either tater tots or sweet potato fries. The wait for our food was long but we were warned about the wait. In the interim, our waitress charmingly refilled our beverages. When our food arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious; the burgers were ample and the sides were prepared in an air fryer leaving them hit and crispy, but not greasy. All was very good and reasonably priced. I've always liked the food here, but their pickup service is a nightmare. The phone never gets answered--even when you can see it ringing. If you're going to offer takeout, at least pick up the phone. When you finally do get through, you wait forever just for someone to notice you and ring you up. I love Schuberg's. They are everything a "small town pub" should be while serving a much wider audience of the town&gown that this place encompasses. I've been coming here for 16yrs and they have accommodated me through moving as a vegetarian, a serious elimination diet, and now just a weird food person. I should have tried the burger they won award for I think that would be a more fair review. The slider burgers were good but nothing special. The sweet potato fries were crunchy on the outside and soft and delicious inside. Perfectly made and seasoned well. In spite of its appearance of being just a bar. Well it wasn't bad for me so it really could have been 4 stars, but it just didn't do it for my daughter. Really wish I could break and give 1/2 stars but alas....no. Walk on and find anywhere to sit....quite a.good crowd for a Monday lunch a few days before Thanksgiving! Service was fast and cheerful but my daughter's steak burger she didn't love that much; I think she was hoping for a steak and cheese sandwich but the cheese was extra and she didn't care for the grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms (I asked for it on the side to put on my burger). Their specialty was apparently burgers so why fight it? Got a cheese bacon burger (and added the onions, peppers and mushrooms) and it was pretty darn good. Default burgers come with potato chips, but for a little extra you can get french fries, tater tots, etc..my daughter opted for tater tots. Prices were a bit high but it was filling. Quite a few options on tap and for drinks but we weren't there for drinks...looks a solid place to visit later in the day for sure. read more
